  1. Re: Who's the best cash game player on PL? (in the eyes of PTR) - Is it GaF(70)?

but if I were looking at my results with a different players name on top' date=' I'd think that they were God :p[/quote'] Bah - I started to get a little bit of belief and confidence yesterday .... the result? I've lost over 8 buy ins today in under 500 hands!! Whilst that's could easily well be within the realms of "variance" - I dont put it down to variance - because of my confidence, something changes in my game and I get slaughtered - i dont feel I can beat my opponents (compared to yesterday when I didn't feel I could lose to my opponents!) ... this always seems to happen when I start to build confidence .... I wish I knew what I was changing.... :sad Rating down to 59 (and now most definitely not a contender to be "the best cash game player on PL")!!!
  2. Re: Vegas Trip I wouldnt discount Priceline. Whilst it can be a bit of a gamble - do your research and you can have a very good idea of the exact hotel(s) you're bidding for (look on betterbidding.com for all the info). In the betterbidding calendar for March 2012 I can see there have been successful bids for condos in Trump International at $85 per night. (compared to £85 per night listed on Expedia). Recent wins (irrespective of date) I can see: Aria $80 per night Venetian $100 per night Mirage $75 per night Palazzo $100 per night Monte Carlo $45 per night

  3. Re: Who's the best cash game player on PL? (in the eyes of PTR) - Is it GaF(70)? lol - here we go again :p You're right - I really dont rate myself as a decent player - BUT in conflict to that I really do believe that results are the ultimate scorecard in poker - what happens over a week is irelevent - but what happens over 50k hands (which is what PTR has tracked for me) is I believe pretty significant (all be it, not totally, and statistically conclusive). And I'm caught with this paradox - when I look at what I do, I dont think I do anything especially clever or special and cannot believe that what I'm doing is "better than average" - but if I were looking at my results with a different players name on top, I'd think that they were God :p

  4. Re: Who's the best cash game player on PL? (in the eyes of PTR) - Is it Villagio(63)?

I decided to get PlatinumStar VIP this weekend on Pokerstars (with their 10% promo) - just checked my Stars PTR and its showing as 68 :loon No idea what it was before' date=' but I'm amazed its jumped to that....[/quote'] Have got back into a little cash HU on stars again this week - played 1,796 hands over the last 6 days and just checked my PTR to see I've broken the 70 barrier :)
  5. Re: William Hill (iPoker) running house bots in their own games I would guess that it depends on the bot! Different bots will play in different ways and have different weaknesses. The way to beat a bot is the same as the way to beat a human - watch, probe, analyse and when you have identified your opponents weaknesses, adjust to exploit them! Bots take advantage of those players who fail to adjust.

  6. Re: William Hill (iPoker) running house bots in their own games The upshot seems to be that William hill are not running house bots on their poker platform. The confirmation of a house bot was incorrect from the customer support rep. Where the confusion appears to have come from is that William Hill do run house bots in their "Skill Games" (which excludes poker) and they have a different set of T&C for this (the quoted T&C allowing bots is from their skill games section, not their poker section). Of course, this doesn't hide the fact that iPoker appears infested with bots, and appears to be the worst of the major networks when it comes to bots, and that iPoker dont seem particularly inclined to seriously tackle the problem or capable of detecting bots.

  7. Re: Poker tracking software

Thank you Stevo' date=' i think that i will hang fire untill new ones are out.[/quote'] If you buy Holdem Manager now, then it will will be a valid Holdem Manager 2 Licence as well. http://forums.holdemmanager.com/general-support/101211-hm2-announcement.html I would imagine the situation is similar for Poker Tracker. You can also get a fully functional free trial for HM and PT to try them out now. I'd advise against procrastination - if you're playing cash, then a HUD is far too important to wait.
  8. Re: $30 Million Event at Wembley Stadium Read extremely little on this on 2plus2 and apparently Wembley has NOT been booked for this!!! Even if they did book it, they couldn't hold the tourney there without Wembley getting a gaming licence could they? (Didn't Old Trafford have a similar problem a few years ago?)

  9. Re: Fold Pocket Aces Pre-Flop? I'm finding this a pretty tough one to call. Generally, I think its a fold because I'd expect to be able to fold into the seat the huge majority of the time. However, you say you "think you can possible fold all hands and still get in" suggests that you give a higher chance that you can fold all hands and not get the seat than I expect. I think you qualify most of the time because of mistakes by your opponents, going up against one another lighter than they should - if the standard of play is good and players are folding good hands when they should, then your position can be more precarious than expected (which is what I presume your read is from your comment). Given that, I think the significant factor is how often Mr 30k behind calls you and how often he folds. I'm not too worried about Mr 6k Behind - I'll take my chances against him. If Mr 30k behind, I rate as a decent player who folds a significant proportion of the time (as he should), then I think I shove, if he's a bad player, who calls too lightly, then I might get out of the way. I suppose the other factor is the distribution of chips. How many shorties are there? If there are a few big stacks, and a lot of players in a precarious position, then it adds weight to the "fold". If the chips are more evenly distributed, then it adds weight to the "shove". For a more creative play (and I dont know what the rules are and what is allowed) - a comment such as "I've never folded these in my life" followed by a shove - effectively trying to tell Mr 30k that you have Aces and he should fold, or "accidentally" exposing your cards after you shove (highly against the rules I suspect! In which case I'm not advocating this, but something that has the same effect without breaking the rules). If everyone folds, I'd also show the Aces, as it may come in useful later on to establish your "honesty".

  10. Re: Dash (yea.. right) to Supernova 2012 Yes I am delusional!!! I dont know what I was thinking when I started this thread :unsure Managing to hit the pace for 72 hours over a Bank Holiday weekend is one thing. Achieving it over a full year, non weekends is a totally different kettle of fish, and I have zero chance of achieving it as things stand! Not given up completely - maybe I'll get comfortable playing at higher stakes and that will give me a shot - so I'll continue with the evaluation - but I wouldnt back myself at even money to achieve Supernova in 2012!

  11. Re: Dash (yea.. right) to Supernova 2012 To be honest, Omaha isn't my game - as much as anything I would guess , because I havent played it anywhere near as much as NLHE, but I dont feel comfortable or confident when playing Omaha (less so than with NLHE ;)). I'm also hesitant to want to chase shortcuts to get points quicker - mainly because I read that as meaning more rake to pay!!! Points are just a measure of the amount of rake you pay - we shouldn't want to pay more rake/earn more points - its just a by product of games we play anyway. I've no idea if that makes any kind of sense when this thread is all about chasing the points to get to Supernova :rollin:rollin:rollin I haven't thought yet - what about 2013 onwards? Is it something that once you've got supernova, you MUST keep it going to get your moneys worth and will be afraid to let it go? :unsure

  12. Having just got the 750 VPPs needed for PlatinumVIP on pokerstars in under 72 hours, I'm now seriously thinking that maybe I can pursue Supernova in 2012. Supernova needs 100,000 points in 365 days - so that's an average of 274 points per day. I think I'm capable of that over the short term, but not sure I'm capabable of it long term (over a year). So that's why I am starting to think about it now, in August 2011. I will use the 4 months left in this year as an evaluation period to try and work out which games I'm most profitable at, where I can improve, where I can move up the stakes, how many hours I need to put in and how many tables I could (should) play, on average, per day to get Supernova. I dont intend to really start grinding now - I need to go into 1st January 2012 fresh enough to see the whole year through - but I need to keep a steady pace up if I am to get enough information to get anything out of this evaluation period. I will continue playing NL50 Heads Up cash poker until I have played 10,000 hands and then make my decision what to try next. (Currently on 3,379 hands and $112 profit - yes I've fallen back a bit :(). Areas I wish to try (all NLHE): Cash: 6max, full ring - Will play in blocks of 10k hands (not necessarily continuosly lol) STT: Fifty50's - Will play in blocks of 100 games SnG MTTs: 180s - I dont know whether these would be possible to grind at low stakes to Supernova level - Will play in blocks of 50games MTTs: I think I will skip MTTs - volume would be difficult and I dont think I have the patience anymore to play for 5 or 6 hours at a time.... I wont be mixing and matching different games at the same time - when I start a batch I must complete it (or abandon it) before I start another batch, or play any other type of game. I'm a firm believer that mixing your games up stops you playing optimally (or even well) at any of the games you play - need to focus on 1 game type for a significant period. Intention is to work through everything pretty much in the order listed above. If I make any profit at NL50 HU (before bonuses) then my second batch will be 10,000 hands of NL100 HU.
