  1. Re: Cheltenham Nov Meeting (Fri 11th- Sun 13th)

I quite like Divers in this race. Has been aimed at the race and given the same prep as the yard's winner of the race L'Antartique in 2007. He fits most of the trends and goes well at Cheltenham. Ferdy Murphy starting to hit form with a couple of winners today.
You'd get a huge price on him for this race after the way it ran last time out. I think Ferdy Murphy also stated that he would be aimed at a later race in the season before it's first run of the season as he'd hardly done any work at all prior to it's seasonal debut. I think it's pretty telling that it's out again so soon in that it must still have a lot of additional weight to lose. I like the the horse myself as l think he jumps exceptionally well but l wont be backing it myself on this run.
  2. Re: FLAT (AW) racing weds 9th nov Fisher in the 3:00 at Southwell could be one at a bigger price worth chancing a few quid on. Ran better last time out after running like a drain it's first two runs. So still unexposed as a potential improver and, most importantly, run out of the Hannon stable with one of the best jockeys in the country Philip Makin on top. I cant remember the last time I saw the pair of them team up and I think Makin will be a man to follow during the winter. The horse cost the thick end of 50k at the breeze ups so obviously thought better than this level. Surface an unknown but there is encouragement in it's breeding (both sire and mare American bred horses) It drops into a dog rough race and at the prices available, given who connections are it's worth a few quid each way.

  3. Re: Disgusting Behavior!

It wasn't a strange local. I'd been in there around once a fortnight for the previous 6 months - not playing poker. It's fair to say most of the men were poker regulars. The entry fee was £5 or £6. Whilst we're young at heart' date=' our birth certificates tell a different story. Interesting that you think we were lucky to leave unscathed, and a sad reflection on our society.[/quote'] I think it's a sad reflection on society that most men cant accept in 2011 that women may enjoy a game of poker and-lo and behold- may actually become better at it than them. I would imagine it would have to be a particularly sink estate local for a bunch of hairy arsed blokes to attack a couple of lasses but the chance is always there. There's a young lass in her early twenties that plays our local tourney's and because she's reasonably attractive with a slim figure and massive norks she often cleans up. It's a different kettle of fish when she ends up at Elland Road or Brammal lane for the regional game and the fellas there are not so bloody stupid but the worst abuse she suffers from is "put them tits away your distracting me" To which she chuckles suggestively and says something equally flirtatious back to. My advice for the next time you go in there (if you choose to do so) is take a bowie knife with you and the first time any smart alec pipes up whip the chib out and go apoplectic with all manner of threats about cutting their fcuking throats out if you get any more of this shit. You might be asked to sit the next hand out like but a line will have been drawn from there on in.
  4. Re: Disgusting Behavior! Perhaps you should have considered making yourselves known to the locals first. Particularly in a local pub. When you play regional tourney's it's going to be natural to be in a room full of strangers but at a local pub your more likely to find a regular crowd who all have a degree of knowledge of each other. I think you can probably count yourselves as lucky as oppossed to unlucky. I reckon if two young lads had walked into a strange local one night and one of them left with every other buggers cash there would have been a good chance one of them would have ended up with a sore face or a chair across the back as they left.

  5. Re: Virtual horse racing - list of bookies

Spot on there. The bookies i work for are trailing a virtual programe in a few shops it has has loads of stuff ie car racing' date=' cycle racing, football etc and the reason theer doing it because other competitors shops that have it are getting more punters through the front door.[/quote'] There's something just not right with virtual motor racing. I was watching the big race from thunder alley last week and a thought occured to me as l was watching them line up on the grid. When does qualifying take place?
  6. Re: International Friendlies > November I think one thing to bear in mind before absolutely filling your boots on Spain is the likelihood that Aragones will rest/rotate his main players at half time or on the hour. True that will probably be the case for Capello as well but there certainly has to be an air of caution when you bear in mind this is a non competitive fixture. If this was a qualifier or a group game in the Euro's then id have my house on Spain but as it is im just gonna have the car on it. I'll probably look to double up as well with Sweden/Draw on the Wednesday.

  7. Everyone's got one or two. They dont have to be the horse which has won you the most money (mine certainly aren't) they're just the horses which for whatever reason over the years you have developed a soft spot for. I've got 2 who l absolutely love. Lough Derg and General Tufto. Lough Derg is the horse who probably got me into racing seriously. His attitude in a finish is second to none and the way he battled back in the long walk hurdle at Ascot 2 or 3 years ago absolutely melted me. He's just got the heart of a lion and you always know who ever beats him is going to be in a hard race. Even Big Bucks had to be niggled along briefly in the fog at Ascot last year if I remember correctly. General Tufto is just one of those good old sticks that is certainly never going to be anythin better than what he is now. He wins when he's dropped to a mark in the mid 80's and not a minute before. Loves it round Southwell and often runs like a drain when he's carrying a couple of pounds above what he wins off but as soon as he's dropped to the correct mark he often pings in at a huge price. No airs or graces about him and it's almost like he's saying to everyone "no, no, no im NOT gonna run a good race until you get this extra 2lb off my back"

  8. Re: Flat Racing - November 1st

Jesus ' date=' you will get a big price on that mate, with him having 14 rides he is bound to have 1 or 2 at least![/quote'] He'll be punch drunk though. He wont know whether he's coming or going. I agree with what your saying in normal cirumstances but flying to oz and back in the space of 2 days surely cant be any good for co-ordination. Im kind of surprised the medics are happy for him to compete. Could be dangerous for himself and others.
  9. Re: Flat Racing - November 1st Silvestre De Sousa not to ride a winner today would be a good bet if you can find a price for it. I woudln't be surprised if he starts taking horses the wrong way round the track. As anyone who has suffered from jetlag will know, you couldn't go outside to pick money off the trees.

  10. Re: Horse Class What about my reply you gypsy? Are you not going to thank me as well you ungrateful swine. As Fintron explained, the jumps horses are rated higher than the flat so horses running in a class 4 jumps race are going to be rated in excess of 100. The listings he gave are for flat ratings.

  11. Re: Horse Class It will be in the form mate. For instance. Wolverhampton 7st C5Hc. 7 Is the distance, st is the going (in this case standard) C5 means class 5 and Hc indicates a handicapp race. Obviously you deduce from that if a horse is being raised or lowered in class. Thats what you will largely find in the form figures as the vast majority of racing is of the handicapp type. For the better horses you will find G3 (group 3) and Lst (Listed) in the abreviations.

  12. Re: England: Championship Oct 29-30 Palace for me too. I've become a bit of a fan of first season young managers of late and Dougie Freeman (also a Scotsman and they seem to do exceptionally well by and large) has Palace absolutely flying just now. One or two players who by all accounts are ppremier league class and new owners in who have given the place a real lift. Reading were always going to struggle after losing Shane Long in the summer and with the home advantage factored in, Palace are too big to turn down. I was expecting far closer to evens in truth.

  13. Re: Jumps Racing Friday 28th of October Im all over Phiddipides today. I remember seeing an interview with Evan Williams last year prior to it running at Exeter and he said he thinks he's a lovely horse who he really likes. Got beat that day by Rock Noir which at the time looked a bit of a negative but has actually proven to be a decent level of form given the calibre of horse that thing was taking on afterwards and not running shabily either. Phidippides hasn't been great over fences thus far but only 2 runs into it's chasing career will still be learning massively. If it's half as good as what Williams seemed to think he was going to be then a double figure price today is huge. Eeeeeeeeeeeeek. So excited now the jumps are really getting going. I'll be unziping my fly tomorrow when the Charlie Hall sets off. Is the race a bit earlier this year by the way?

  14. Re: Is it possible to post video clips directly into threads? Tried copying and pasting the embed code and doing what you said above. Neither seems to work. http://www.youtube.com/embed/mxfjSnMN88U"frameborder="0" allowfullscreen>

  15. Re: Where to start? I love betting on the all weather during the winter purely for the fact that you get the same horses turning out week after week. Southwell in particular can be a gold mine imo. It's like no other track in the country. If a horse acts there, it can almost be followed at all costs. Alan Macabe is a stable to follow there as well. And the all weather as a whole in fact.
