Down the toilet before half time. Horrible game (Pies-Roos), dreadful skills, worse result - nothing on show to give the Cats, Saints or anyone else sleepness nights.:@

  3. Re: Cricket: India in Australia - 4 tests Pie-c, would be looking at the various 'exotics' to get any value out of the Sydney Test. I expect India to perform better, given the history of spin at the SCG, but difficult to see them doing anything other than perhaps taking the game into day 5 (that would be a rare treat for Aussie cricket fans). Will be looking at highest scorers etc and anticipate Tendulkar & Laxman featuring against Ponting (looking to atone) and Hussey (and maybe Clark). Weather doesn't look like it will be an issue so a draw seems very unlikely - I agree with you.

  5. Re: NBL Basketball - Round 7 (Oct 31st - Nov 4th)

Melbourne under 202.5 Corresponding match between these two teams last year saw the Tigers win 98-83 and go under. Now the Crocs come to play after getting smashed by Sydney last night. Look to Melbourne put on a similar defensive effort to contain the hapless Crocs however the fear is that Melbourne may become complacent after Sydney's win and not do enough to cover the huge line. I'll take the total Adelaide over 206.5 Last 3 games these two teams played the total points scored were 225 (in round 5) and last year 236 and 211. NZ have showed so far that they can score but also have shown they can concede. Adelaide have lost their last 5 games and are desperate for a win. They can't stop NZ from scoring but they will try to match them point for point as they have done in the past in a high scoring game.
    Agreed. Spot On
  6. Re: Nbl:round 6

I personaly like OVER 208.5 points in the townsville vs west sydney match
Out to 210.5 at Sportsbet - tough call. Am leaning more towards unders in the Hawks-Perth game 196.5. Thee two teams have a bit of a history of slugging it out and, in the process, only getting into the 180's or low-mid 190's. :hope
  7. Re: Rugby World Cup 2007 - Official Thread 15-6. Seven penalty goals. FFS, rugby was not meant to be played this way. One team totally bereft of ideas with kicking their only option. The other, whilst at least trying to play for field position ran out of ideas. Hopefully, the introduction of the Stellenbosch Rules next year will encourage and assist teams to run more with the ball, forwards not sideways. Congratulations to South Africa, and to England which at least made the Final. That the Southern Hemisphere teams have won 5 of the 6 RWCs may encourage the Northerners to reappraise how they play the game. Thank you to all fellow punters on this site. It's been an enjoyable and entertaining RWC - thank God for the Pacific Islanders and Argentina (and a reasonably profitable one). :clap Roll on 2011!

  8. Re: Rugby World Cup 2007 - Official Thread

Rationale: England are too one-dimensional; the French have won 5 of the last 6 since the RWC four years ago; home soil advantage; France will play pragmatic rugby - tight if necessary but with flair when required; France's defence has improved dramatically; France's bench is more dynamic (think back to the QF last week - who made the difference when they came on the 2nd half?); and I don't have confidence in an aging English forward pack being able to reproduce two huge performances within the space of a week. .
O'k, so what the f*** do I know? About the only thing I got right there was England being one dimensional. Unfortunately, it worked... :cry The game of rugby will suffer worldwide if the Poms win this thing again. Come on Pumas (I'd even take the Boks over the Poms).
  9. Re: Rugby World Cup 2007 - Official Thread O'k, it's "put your $ where your mouth is" time: Who's going to win and why. I have been asked that by many people here in downtown Melbourne, Australia this past week - if for no other reason than the fact AFL-types don't have much of a clue about the game played in heaven. My answer?: Sth Africa should win the RWC, France probably will win the RWC but Argentina can and will win the RWC. Sorry, pie-chucker and other English supporters, I just don't believe the Poms can rely on JW to win it for them again. If they do (and I'll be the first into the stocks for the public berating from English fans and media alike), it will have demonstrated that the rest of the rugby world hasn't learnt a damn thing since 2003. My bets for this weekend (and I agree, the JW 11.5 pts is a motza): France by 1-12 @ 2.95 Argentina s-up @ 3.55 Argentina +9.5 @ 1.90. Rationale: Argentina are on a huge roll and creating history for rugby in that country - they will play with considerable emotion; their forwards will get parity with the SA pack, which will nullify a lot of the SA go-forward; without pack dominance, the SA backs can lose their way; Argentina have the better kickers, particularly for field position; Argentina will have the greater crowd support. This all equates to the prospect of an upset. Although the rugby won't excite the running rugby romantics (and I expect many in Aust and NZ to watch with amazement at the fact such rugby got these four teams to the semis and our running style didn't), both games will be enthralling, engrossing and, therefore, captivating. A France v Argentina final for me. GL all.

  10. Re: Rugby World Cup 2007 - Official Thread Most of us seem to be having a pretty good tournament bet-wise (especially Pie-c, cymro, 2hcb and Gerrie). Hopefully, we can finish the RWC profitably to make up for such an insipid Wallabies performance. Opening markets down here for the SF's: England 3.30 (and 1.88 +8.5) v France 1.34 (& 1.93 -8.5) Sth Africa 1.30 (1.90 -9.5) v Argentina 3.55 (1.90 +9.5) First thoughts: France to cover and Argentina to surprise (maybe wishful thinking but their play has been inspiring). Look fwd to your thoughts and will post again with more thoughts later.

  11. Re: Rugby World Cup 2007 - Official Thread First thoughts: France +13.5 & Fiji +33.5 look interesting (although need to assess how big a hole Nicky Little's injury has left). Am also interested in France straight-up at this early stage, but will take time to dwell on that. Still in shock after last night's and this morning's matches. At a time when most of us this side of the equator were anticipating, and predicting, two southern hemisphere semi finals, we get put in our place by those dastardly english and the enigmatic french. Hats off to them and four more years for us and our Kiwi cousens. Didn't bet on Aust-Eng and, whilst I thought long and hard about France, nly took them with the start. Much more interested, bet-wise, in tonight's games. South Africa v Fiji: clearly, South Africa is favoured and it is almost impossible to comprehend an upset. However, Fiji is now being offered 35.5 pts start which, imo, is worth consideration. I think this is a safe margin to work with as I expect Fiji to score at least 10-15 points, thereby necessitating South Africa to post 45-50. When was the last time a RWC 1/4 finalist was offering 15.00 for the win? In a two-horse race, I will also be putting a small stake on Fiji causing the greatest upset in RWC history. Will probably be a donation, but profitable results thus far have given some scope to 'gamble'. Argentina v Scotland: match previews are suggesting Scotland's much improved pack, coupled with the world's best kicker in Paterson, will keep this match close. Unless the Pumas play with an indiscipline not yet witnessed in their play in this tournament, I can't see Scotland getting within two tries of Argentina. Picking the right bet is challenging here - I expect Argentina to win by between 10 and 18 points. Interestingly, Sportsbet has Argentina to win by 30+ @ 3.60 as opposed to the exact margin of 10 points at 26.00 (the next lowest). My inclination, therefore, is to put small stakes on the exact margins of 10-18 and a bit on 1-12 @ 3.10, thereby giving me a reasonable chance of securing a profit - provided of course the Pumas win the day - as they should. Either way, should be two more very entertaining games. Wouldn't it be totally bizarre if only Sth Africa or Fiji was left to fly the southerners' flag come Monday?

  12. Re: NBL Basketball - Round 3 (Oct 2nd - 6th) Won't speak for Ads, but what I would suggest in response ILM is that both teams have significantly different line-ups from last season. Singapore in particular are down on player depth and strength across the roster and T'ville (not a noted away team) are down to one import following season-ending injury. Their remaining import fouled out last game and hasn't yet got used to the netball-style officiating of the NBL's whistle happy officials. I'm backing Ads' judgement and the stats thus far that should see the score come in around 180-190. :hope

  13. Re: Rugby World Cup 2007 - Official Thread Three of the QF's have been posted on Sportsbet: Aust 1.20 v England 4.50 (spread = Eng +11.5 @ 1.90) NZ 1.18 v France 5.00 (spread = Fr +13.5 @ 1.90) Sth Afr 1.02 v Fiji 15.00 (spread = Fiji +33.5 @ 1.90). First thoughts: France +13.5 & Fiji +33.5 look interesting (although need to assess how big a hole Nicky Little's injury has left). Am also interested in France straight-up at this early stage, but will take time to dwell on that.

  14. Re: Rugby World Cup 2007 - Official Thread

Whaddya on about? The post immediately above yours puts the stats of these two teams in sharp perspective. Or are you talking about 'the media' discussion? Saint, this is the place for hard-nosed tips. You'd be a hero in Aus in the pub if you just said... this is what's going down tonight. Based on most of the stuff here. :welcome
As a newbie, still getting used to the tone required on this forum. I was certainly referring to the public/media discussion rather than what has been said on this site. Anyway, Argentina showed how the gulf between northern and southern hemisphere teams is expanding (meaning there are now at least four teams south of the equator who can dictate the terms of a game). I thought I had been giving my tips, pie-chucker. Happy to just say Argentina straight up and with the -3.5 (both stated) if an explanation of my thinking is not required to back up my tip. Don't really care either way if the results continue like tonight's game (although Georgia played its worst game of the tournament and failed to defend the spread).
