  2. Re: $5,500,000 Melbourne Cup - Tuesday November 4th in Australia Be great to get some English and Irish input on your horses and who you consider to be the best. How much better than All The Good, Mad Rush, Bauer and Profound Beauty is Septimus? If all the international horses raced over in the UK in the same race carrting their Melbourne Cup weights on a firm track over 3200m what would be the result?

  3. Re: $5,500,000 Melbourne Cup - Tuesday November 4th in Australia Zagreb out of Cup Trainer David Hayes has conceded defeat in his race against the clock to have talented stayer Zagreb fit for this year's Melbourne Cup. Hayes will on Thursday afternoon scratch Zagreb from this Saturday's Mackinnon Stakes after the four-year-old pulled up sore following track work at Flemington on Thursday.

  4. Re: $5,500,000 Melbourne Cup - Tuesday November 4th in Australia All The Good update Caulfield Cup winner All The Good is in doubt for next week's Melbourne Cup after being found lame at Sandown on Thursday. Trainer Saaed Bin Suroor said he discovered the horse was 'not right' in his off foreleg and will await scans before deciding whether to run the stallion in the $5.5 million race. All The Good and Yellowstone will have vet inspections on Friday morning. "These things happen, they're animals. What can we do?" bin Suroor said. All The Good's injury comes a day after last year's winner Efficient was withdrawn due to a fetlock injury. Fellow international Bauer's chances of getting a run in the race will improve should All The Good miss out.

  6. Re: $5,500,000 Melbourne Cup - Tuesday November 4th in Australia Australia's most famous race the Melbourne Cup is on next Tuesday and there are many UK horses high up in betting and time for you knowledgeable punters out there to help us Aussies sort out the best British horses. All The Good won our second biggest handicap a couple of week's ago the Caulfield Cup over 2400m and Mad Rush was a very unlucky 4th. Bauer then won Country Cup called the Geelong Cup quite easily and he is now in 24th order for the Melbourne Cup and may get a run. Bookies have Septimus favourite and from all accounts he is much better than All The Good and Mad Rush. Septimus is going to have to do what only 2 horses have done in a very long time and that is win the Cup carrying more than 58kgs, and he has 58.5kgs which is a big ask in our racing, and he is not real value considering. Mad Rush was a super run in the 2400m Caulfield Cup over 2400m and he escaped a weight penalty. Anyone care to give their thoughts on the International invaders to our shores? They look far superior to our stayers.

SEN commentators are one eyed Melbourne and a crack up most of the time. If you are want to hear over the top commentators then have a listen to SEN when they broadcast a Melbourne Victory game, usually better than watching it :dude
  9. Re: AFC - Asian Champions League 2008 Melbourne 2 (Muscat 27p, Vargas 64) Chunnam Dragons 0 Crowd: 23,656 at Telstra Dome Melbourne has opened its Asian Champions League campaign on a high, notching a 2-0 win over Korean FA Cup champions Chunnam Dragons in their Group G clash at Telstra Dome. The 2006-07 Hyundai A-League champions had little trouble in getting their campaign off to a strong start, scoring a goal in each half. Kevin Muscat converted a penalty in the first half while Rody Vargas headed home to secure the three points just after the hour. The Victory dominated from the start, with Archie Thompson causing major headaches for the Chunnam defence. But it was the Korean side who had the best early chance when Victor Simoes, fed by Lim Kwan Sik, prompted a cracking save from Michael Theoklitos on 20 minutes. The home side wasn't deterred by that scare and continued to surge forward. The key moment came on 26 minutes when Matthew Kemp charged down the left and was brought down by Inwhan Jung just inside the box. Referee Malik Abdul Bashir pointed to the spot and Victory skipper Muscat did the rest, wrong-footing Dragons keeper Yeom Dong-Gyun. Yeom was just about the busiest man on the park in the first half, with the Victory bombarding the goalkeeper. He produced three excellent saves, one from the boot of Danny Allsopp and one from each of Thompson's foot and head to keep his side in it at the break. On 54 minutes the first piece of frustration crept into the Dragons' game with Kim Seongjae booked for a foul on Nicky Ward. Substitute Sandro Hiroshi tested out Theoklitos from range, but the Melbourne keeper answered everything which came his way. Victor also almost found a way past, curling a shot just wide from a tight angle just after the hour. But the match was all but snuffed out as a contest when Vargas got forward from a set-piece and headed home Billy Celeski's free kick on 64 minutes. The defender was completely unmarked on almost on his knees when he slotted home. Allsopp netted his second offside goal of the game on 78 minutes, while Thompson spoiled two good chances. Sandro Hiroshi was then well blocked by late on Theoklitos from close range as the Victory preserved their handy two-goal advantage to the end.

  10. Re: AFC - Asian Champions League 2008 VICTORY SET FOR HISTORIC SEASON OPENER Melbourne Victory has put the final touches on its preparations for the AFC Champions League 2008, readying itself for its historic first match against Korea Republic’s Chunnam Dragons at Telstra Dome this Wednesday (kick off 7:30pm). Victory completed its final training session at Telstra Dome this morning and Captain Kevin Muscat declared the side is determined to take three points from its debut match in Asia’s premier club competition. "I suppose we're travelling into the unknown" Muscat said. "We’ll go out there tomorrow concerned about our own performance and if we get that right, it’ll give us our best chance of success. "In terms of playing an international club game, it's a first time for a lot of the boys and we want to get a good start and we want all three points. "The AFC Champions League is exciting, it gives you something else to strive for and it's given us an opportunity to put a couple of wrongs right." Both teams will name a squad of 18 players before the match, with Victory recruit Billy Celeski, who was named in the Qantas Socceroos squad earlier today to face Singapore, expected to make his debut for the club in place of the injured Carlos Hernandez. 11. Re: A League Moves and Transfers over the off season 'The move I had to make': Musialik New Sydney FC signing Stuart Musialik has labelled his shift from Newcastle as the move he had to make if his football career was to go to the next level. With ambitions to play in Europe and represent the Socceroos, the midfield visionary admitted he had gone stale playing for his hometown club and needed a break - from the city as much as the Jets. "It's a very big move for me. I'm a little disappointed to leave my hometown and family and friends but I'm very excited about the challenge ahead with Sydney and am looking forward to it," he said on Wednesday. "The last few months the pressure was on to sign with Newcastle and I just wanted it over and done with and now I can focus on Sydney." "They're going to have a very good football side next year and hopefully I'll play a big part in it." Musialik fell out of love with the Jets despite their run to the Hyundai A-League title - and the feeling appeared mutual at times when he was left off the team sheet for a fair slab of the season. "Besides winning the grand final, it was a disappointing season for me," he conceded. "That's one of the reasons I came down here. I was in my comfort zone in Newcastle so I'm looking at this as a chance to see what it's like to live outside of Newcastle and use it as a stepping stone to Europe." Musialik's signing completes a frenetic period of arrivals and departures at Sydney since the sky blues were dumped from the play-offs at the first stage. Coach John Kosmina is delighted to add the gifted Olyroo to big name off-season purchases John Aloisi, Mark Bridge and Simon Colosimo.

  13. Re: AFC - Asian Champions League 2008 Reds select starting line-up Adelaide United has finalised its team for their opening match of the AFC Champions League against South Korea's Pohang Steelers on Wednesday night. With new signings Alvin Ceccolio and Sasa Ognenovski both unavailable due to family reasons, United coach Aurelio Vidmar has opted for a blend of youth and experience in his starting line-up. Australian Qantas Under-23 representative Bruce Djite will be United's leading man up front while rising star Robert Cornthwaite has been named in a central defensive position alongside experienced campaigner Angelo Costanzo. Eugene Galekovic will start in goals while Diego and Jonas Salley have been named to join Brazilian star Cassio in the starting eleven. Adelaide completed their final training session at Pohang Steelyard Stadium on Tuesday ahead of the match, which is expected to be played at close to zero-degree temperature. Following the game, Adelaide will play their first home game of the AFC Champions League on March 19 against Chinese champions Changchun Yatai at Hindmarsh Stadium. Adelaide United Starting XI: Eugene Galekovic (GK), Richie Alagich, Angelo Costanzo, Cassio, Lucas Pantelis, Bruce Djite, Travis Dodd ©, Jonas Salley, Robert Cornthwaite, Jason Spagnuolo, Diego Bench: Daniel Beltrame, Milan Susak, Nathan Burns, Shaun Ontong, Robert Bajic, Dez Giraldi, Fabian Barbiero

  14. Re: AFC - Asian Champions League 2008 VICTORY ON THE ATTACK IN AFC OPENER Melbourne Victory coach Ernie Merrick has promised to attack as the 2006-07 A-League champions kick-off their maiden AFC Champions League campaign against Korea Republic side Chunnam Dragons on Wednesday. Merrick admitted there was a real sense of excitement around the club ahead of the historic fixture and is confident his side can make the ideal start by collecting three points. "It is important that we maximise our opportunity to win the first game at home in front of what will be a big crowd," Merrick said. "It's just a tremendous opportunity to play international club football in the AFC Champions League." Victory did not qualify for the A-League finals this year after finishing fifth in the table, but Merrick said there was some real momentum building after three wins and a draw in their final four games of the league, plus solid displays in some friendly matches in the build up to their ACL debut. "There's a sense of excitement," he added. "We picked up a lot momentum off the back of the A-League. "We've played Adelaide a couple of times and we played the Australia national team and a local side, Whittlesea, and I don't think we've lost a game in 2008. "We're pretty keen to keep that momentum going. There's a lot of excitement." Nicky Ward, recruited from English championship side Queens Park Rangers in December, is likely to start after proving he has recovered from a niggling groin injury. It is a much-needed boost for the home side with talented Costa Rican Carlos Hernandez out for the first two matches of the campaign. Billy Celeski is set to replace the midfielder. There are plenty of injury concerns for Chunnam coach Park Hang-Seo, who will be without captain Kwak Tae-hwi who was injured in Saturday's K-League defeat to the Pohang Steelers. Kim Chi-woo and Koh Ki-goo are also set to miss out. "My main concern is that I have four very important players and three of them will be missing," Park said. "I need to fill the gaps left by them, that's my biggest worry." Park also said that preparing for an ACL match just four days after the opening game of the K-League season was not ideal and that fatigue could be a problem, although he reiterated his desire to grab a victory in Melbourne. "Every coach wants to win, we don't want to draw. So I expect to win," he said.

  15. Just got home from the Aussie Millions at Crown Casino in Melbourne with Ads25. Great night and was able to stand behind Mike "The Mouth" Matasow on the televised table and see one of Poker's bad boys in action. He was pretty tame though because he didn't have a great chip count. While we were watching he had a round ban for swearing and was sooking about it a bit. Former Aussie cricket superstar and ladies man Shane Warne is now a professional poker player having signed up with 888.com as one of their players, and he was actually standing at the table where Ads and I were playing and watching the Aussies in the cricket against India. Looking fairly lean too Mr Warne in his new post cricket career, he has Joe Hachem as his mentor. Many of the big name poker superstars are currently in Melbourne for the Aussie Millions! 16. Re: Australian A League - Round 13 (Fri 16th Nov - Sun 18th Nov) Adelaide lose Cassio to injury ADELAIDE United have again been hit by injury, with midfielder Cassio ruled out of this weekend's clash against Newcastle. The Brazilian import strained a hamstring against Central Coast, and will miss the all important fixture as third takes on fourth at Hindmarsh Stadium. Adelaide's injury list remains painfully long: Daniel Beltrame, Michael Valkanis, Bobby Petta, Nathan Burns, Kristian Sarkies, Bruce Djite, and Dez Giraldi are all absent. On the upside, Angelo Costanzo returns to the squad after knee surgery and midfielder Jonas Salley is back after a ban.

  17. Re: Australian A League - Round 13 (Fri 16th Nov - Sun 18th Nov) Kossie not pressured Sydney FC coach John Kosmina says he's not feeling any pressure to continue his unbeaten run at the A-League club before this weekend's clash against danger side Wellington Phoenix. Sydney will attempt to register their first win against the competition's newest franchise in Wellington with the Phoenix minus six regulars and coach Ricki Herbert. They will also seek to keep intact the A-League's only undefeated away record. Kosmina's charges haven't lost since he took over from Branko Culina three games ago but the new coach said he wasn't dreading them falling over in a game in which they will start massive favourites. "No, pressure's part of the game, I don't think of it in those terms, I prefer to think of it more as challenging."

  18. Re: Australian A League - Round 13 (Fri 16th Nov - Sun 18th Nov) Preview Wellington Phoenix v Sydney FC Head-to-head One league meeting: Wellington - 1 win Previous meeting Sydney 1 Wellington 2 (Sydney Football Stadium, Hyundai A-League round four, September 2007) Past five results Wellington: Loss - Loss - Loss - Win - Loss Sydney: Draw - Loss - Win - Win - Draw Wellington Phoenix, playing its first match at Westpac for a month, has bought in former Hyundai A-League premiership winning defender Kristian Rees to shore up a defence which has leaked 13 goals in its past six outings. Rees, who made 35 league appearances for Adelaide United, is called straight into the squad for Saturday's battle with Sydney FC. The 27-year-old has been tipped to partner Karl Dodd in central defence and if selected will come up against former Adelaide coach John Kosmina. Kosmina's rebuilding in Sydney continued with a creditable draw against champion Melbourne in the previous round, the new coach's third match at the helm without defeat. The former benchmark side, which dropped to the bottom of the table after losing to the Phoenix at home in round four, now stands just a point outside the playoff places. The club's medical staff will not risk Steve Corica unless he's deemed fully recovered from the groin injury which prematurely forced him from the Telstra Dome turf last Saturday. Corica has not been named in the club's 15-man travelling party with Juninho expected to deputise. Mark Milligan and Ruben Zadkovich are both in camp with the Qantas Australia under-23 side, while injuries have also ruled out Terry McFlynn (ankle), Patrick (knee) and Jacob Timpano (thigh). Michael Bridges rolled his ankle at training but is expected to play. Adam Biddle is promoted to the squad following an ankle injury while Brendon Santalab and Ben Vidaic also take their places for a Sydney side which is unbeaten in five matches away from home this season. Ricki Herbert's international absentee concerns are multiplied by the suspension of marquee midfielder Ahmad Elrich following his red card for elbowing Queensland's Hyuk-Su Seo in last week's demoralising loss in Brisbane. Felipe, an unused substitute last week against the Roar, has dropped out of favour since injuring his hamstring in early October but could be the player to step up and cover the loss of Elrich. Michael Ferrante is also chasing his first start since round eight after knee trouble. Steven O'Dor, who had his wisdom teeth removed two weeks ago, is restored to the squad although fellow defenders Jeremy Christie and Tony Lochhead are with the All Whites along with Tim Brown and leading marksman Shane Smeltz. Victorian Premier League goalkeeper Stuart Webster has been signed for one-match as cover for No.1 Glen Moss.
