  1. Re: Virgin Poker Exclusive League Series - Sign up now!! Really enjoyed the game last night... I had forgotten how tough these games are. Especially when you get your money in with AK 2 hands in a row and find you have come up against AA! I did get a bit lucky with the first one... to hit the straight! :eek Great start Shane... back from the dead to win it! Looking forward to the next one!

  2. Re: Virgin Poker Exclusive League Series - Sign up now!! WOW nice offer Virgin and great stuff Morls for getting this one bagged! My Poker night (yeah, only 1 a week :( plus Sunday ) has recently changed to Tuesdays I can't wait to get my a*se kicked by you lot as normal! Should be fun! Beware the donk! :unsure Quick question though... did I read it right that if I am c*ap in all the sats I can get into the monthly final by raking 50 hands? Cheers Tweety

  3. Re: ** Poker Thursday 12th March ** I will be 'playing' the V-roll tonight... so my vote goes for that! Don't get Insidepoker so can't enter that one anyway. Been a while since I played a focus game... :hope for the v-roll being the focus!

  4. Re: Player04 It's a huge bet that only a 5 could call... so i reckon he had A8s! :\ He could have pocket 5s or 88s which would put you in trouble but I think with the call on the flop and large river bet he must have a suited A... I'm leaking money like a seive at the moment so imagine I am completely wrong and shouldn't have bothered posting this... but it's too late now! Curious though AJ... what do you think he had with his 5... A5s maybe? Pocket 5s, or a totally random hand??? As I say my current game is going downhill at the moment... some poor calculating and adventorous calls from other have done me in... and I would like to hear why he has the 5?? He did raise preflop... not enough to be a real hand???

  5. Re: Cooler KK in the BB - re-shove from a tight player

You havent been persuaded at all that there are merits to just shoving in this situation rather than mini raising, thus avoiding the difficult question at all? Just keep looking at hands in Pokerstove after the event - then you'll get more and more of a feel for what odds are (roughly) without needing to look them up....
Totally agree with the the preflop shove... but if I had min raised I woulda called the allin... just a gambler I suppose? :lol
  6. Re: Cooler KK in the BB - re-shove from a tight player

If we agree that he's a decent player who know's how to play Cooler's then you can put him on a much wider range of starting hands than the one's you suggest. Why? Firstly he will have seen raises from the BB against a limper enough to know that the BB could raise with a wide range of hands - therefore his middle pp (for example) could be well ahead. Secondly he know's that you're calling for your tournament life which you can only do in this situation with a premium pp. In terms of his cards the only hand I'm worried about is AA, anything else I'm beating when the chips go in, so the question is can I put him on AA? Based on one hand earlier the answer is maybe, but that was QQ and I can see many arguements for limping with QQ to at least see a flop. Would a decent player limp with AA in early position, 8 handed in a cooler? Let's consider the views of the many decent players here on PL. A number of them have said in this very thread that Damo should have shoved his KK and be happy to pick up the blinds. I don't believe any of us Cooler players would slow play AA in his position. Has he slow played his AA? If he has then IMHO he's not a decent player and he's got very lucky that he's ended up against only one player. If we credit him as being a decent player then I don't believe he's slow played his AA and I'm happy to take a risk with KK against any other starting hand. If you really want a hand range I could see someone make the same play with these types of hands 66+, A9+, KQ, KJs, QJs. I accept that the maths says it's a fold but poker is not an exact science and it's not simply a game of cards.:D
Very succintly put and what I wanted to say but didn't know how. :ok As GaF said, the point of the discussion is to improve our game by post-game analysis, which is something I never do! Even with all this analysis though I would still say that in 95% of times the above incident occurred I still think I would call. The really difficult part of the game for me is putting the other player on a hand or range of hands and then working out the likelihood of winning the pot... which is why I would most likely make the call. Any advice on how to calculate the odds against a range without a poker calculator? How would I do this in real time on-line or is there now way to do this?
  7. Re: Big Pair Coyness Nice post Billy. I would agree that slowplaying AA or KK is both situational and positional and not something I would do most of the time as it can all too easily go wrong! The way you described it made sense to me and IF I get an opportunity that 'feels' right then I would slowplay aces. As you have said it is all about getting the right situation to maximise your winnings. The situation you described below sounded perfect! Some nice change there! Cha-ching!

  8. Re: Cooler KK in the BB - re-shove from a tight player Excellent thread! There is a lot of good discussion here that has made me think waaaaaayyyy too hard so my head now hurts. :unsure At the time of playing with only a few seconds to think I am sure I would have to call this as I know if I double here I should cash easily. The stack sizes are such that this is not necessary yet but I think I am ahead and would quite happily call here. I expect he has AK or AQs but not AA, though I could be wrong, so there is a risk (30%ish) of losing. The key lesson I believe I have learnt from this is that the bet preflop was not big enough, as many of you have said. Action is not what you want here IMO but to take the blinds and the limpers chips. The pre-flop shove seems most appropriate here to take down a pot and increase my stack by 20%. If he had AA he would still call and the same is probably true of AK so not sure this would have changed the villains moves, but it does put him to the test rather than the other way around. Don't suppose he showed his hand afterwards??? :loon

  9. Re: Your thoughts on this hand please

Thoughts are thus. Why are you committing a 20% of your stack with a marginal hand out of position pre flop ? You should fold it here. Blinds are low, your M is over 12, you don't need to get involved. But now you're in this mess, what are you trying to accomplish with the raise on the flop ? take down the pot I assume. By the time he pushes you're far too deep in the pot, it's just $2, I think you need to call.Really at this level he could have anything. In summery, you should never have been in the hand, but now you are, call.
I know the hand is not a premium hand but considering only 1 caller is the raise not unreasonable for AJo? Position is good in the cut-off surely? The flop comes down giving him top pair. I would have shoved all-in instead of just raising considering the stack sizes. A flat call pre-flop might have been OK pre-flop but I prefer a raise from the cut-off to cut down the number of opponents and find out where you are. It may just be because I have been hitting a bad streak at the moment (and playing badly :\) but I can't see too much wrong with the play except for the fold????
  10. Re: Laddies Sports Day Saturday 14.00 - Emirates Cup Arsenal v Real Madrid

:ok10th glad you bubbled tweety:ok g l with the bet though
Cheeky git! I wish I had been knocked out an hour earlier. I might have got the time the goal was scored (49th minute) in 25th place and saved myself a wasted hour! Still can't understand his call with 82o for 1/3 of his stack... ho hum maybe it was a mis-click and he meant to fold???
  11. Re: Laddies Sports Day Saturday 14.00 - Emirates Cup Arsenal v Real Madrid Bubbled! Arrgggghhhhh! :wall:wall:wall:wall:wall:wall:wall:wall:wall:wall Bet ALLIN 4.5xBB on button with ATo to be called by SB with 82o ... 8 on the river and out I go! Somtimes I really hate poker!

  12. Re: Play APT for FREE with PokerTrillion Tried to play a Step 3 satellite last night and was only me and one other for over half an hour. The MTT for Step 1 did go ahead but with only 16 players... came 2nd :cry. I agree with Mick. Maybe we should 'arrange' a time for a PL game, either an STT or MTT depending on numbers. I only play Tuesday and Sundays so could we arrange for one of these days? :eyes

  13. Re: Play APT for FREE with PokerTrillion

    I won it last night trillionaptiq2.jpg trillionaptiq2.7f7489fbd2.jpg
I limped into 5th in this one... fold, fold, fold, fold fold! ;) Thought that was you with the big stack... was going to ask for a donation but some-one cracked the guy in 6ths AA with K7, I seem to remember, so i was happy! If I'm out of the affiliate freeeroll early I will probably have a go at the Step 3 tonight...
  14. Re: Aces I would agree it does look like AQ or KQ but he could have hit trips or more likely be drawing to the clubs with something like JTc. Think you have to shove a pot bet in on the turn to make him pay for his draw. If he had trips I would have expected him to make re-re-raise on the flop but he could be playing it tricky. I don't play much cash but I would have raised more pre-flop to $0.70 as at these levels only large raises (6xBB) get any respect and not always even then. Did you win???

  15. Re: Play APT for FREE with PokerTrillion The MTT steps 1-3 are starting to fill up but as they only have 1/2 per day it's not always easy to play these, for me anyway. Does anyone know if the tickets from the freerolls can be used for the STT or MTT? Has anyone played in any of these yet?

  16. Re: Interesting River Spot I'm awful at cash games but reckon you may be favourite here. My 'read' is the SB has a K high flush (or possibly a missed flush draw/2 pair/lower FH) and UTG has trips with AK/Q/J/T (or maybe a lower FH). Could be wrong (very, very likely) but would have called personally. Raising I don't like as you're probably only get called if one of them has the Aces over FH... interested to see what the experts think!

  17. Re: I'm taking a break from Poker Enjoy your break GaF... but do come back! :eek You will be sorely missed for all your efforts and the amount of feedback you give people... when I think of PL or any poker questions I have, it is GaF that first springs to mind... wouldn't be the same without ya.... so don't go AWOL and see you back on the tables refreshed and ready to kick-ass! :beer:beer:beer
