  1. Well, I guess opinions aren't allowed here unless they agree with the powers that be. And neither is skillful poker good poker any more. I take great pride in doing what I do to the best of my ability. And I take great pride in knowing the rules of any sports/games I get involved in. I have been a qualified coach in 2 sports and referee/umpire in 3. I have been in the computer business for over 20 years, and having been a programmer for a fair few of them, I know that an application is only as good as the programming and may not necesarily be correct. I gave my opinion in an opinion poll yesterday to which someone had the cheek to question. Many of you here play only online poker. Online poker is an application... only as good as the programming and doesn't always adhere to the rules of the game. Unfortunately, most of you here don't understand that as online poker if all you know. That's fine, but as the saying goes, don't teach your grandmother to suck eggs. I know the rules of poker... I make sure I know the rules of the game I am playing, and I don't need morons like you to tell me different. I'm not always right, but I know when I am! Well, worry no more as I am leaving you to your world. You will not be hearing from me again. I would very much like to say that you won't be seeing me again either, but unfortunately I may still end up on the same table as some of you. To a couple of you I say good luck. To the rest of you I say good riddence, and may you rot in hell. If I'm not banned from here, I may occasionally take a peek at the posts and laugh at your lack of knowledge. And don't bother adding to this thread because it will be falling on deaf ears.

  2. Re: What's your favourite site? Part 1

Thepro is talking about tournament play, and he's wrong. Not about prima doing that - but every site do it EXCEPT for crypto, who don't because they ballsed up. The BB is also skipped in live play, it's standard WSOP rules etc, which would follow if you think about what the alternative is. If a player is eliminated on their BB, then the player immediately to their left skips posting a BB and the BB is passed one player further along, so the player who should have been the BB becomes the SB. If that wasn't the case, the poor guy to the right of the eliminated BB would have to post two SB's in a row, which is obviously more unfair than the alternative. Dead blinds you have to post on every site.
Sorry, but YOU ARE WRONG. Read my explanation of the Dead Button... and ask any REAL poker professional. In fact, on telly a few days ago, a poker pro - Gary Bush - explained exactly this... YOU CANNOT MISS A BLIND, AND YOU WILL ONLY POST ONE BB AND ONE SB PER ROUND. You online players are really starting to bug me with your lack of understanding of the rules... and it's turning the live game into a farce too because you turn up without any knowledge of the rules and can't cope because there are no buttons to press.
  3. Re: What's your favourite site? Part 1

the two of you are talking about different things.. ie. dead buttons is nothing to do with dead blinds
And that was exactly what I was trying to get accross... but rather unsuccessfully. Prima do NOT handle the dead button scenario correctly. I apologise about the lack of knowledge about the dead blind. I don't often play cash games, but when I do, I ALWAYS play every hand. I can't see the point in sitting out. If I don't wish to play, then I leave the table, and so have never come across the situation. Having said that, does this rule apply on all sites? I remember a post not too long ago where someone mentioned about a player who would sit out the 2 blinds positions, then come back in on the button and only pay the BB, effectively saving himself the SB.
  4. Re: What's your favourite site? Part 1

Ahhhhh...now I know.... Scandinavians are simply too good players, Pro... Sorry...thought you were offending us... but really you were praising us... God bless you, Child... Will go easy on you in the future ;)
Pene I've said before, the 2 Scandanavians I know on PL - yourself and PeeGee - are not in this category, but 95% of other Scandanavians I've come across and played against (mainly on Prima) are crap poker players. Why? Because they (and many Americans fall into this category too) have turned the game into a game of total luck and no skill. They will play any 2 cards and chase it down to the river, and then when they get a lucky hit (which seems to be very often!) they make out that it was skillful play, which it most defintely is not. Further, they don't understand what a bluff is. Calling someone's raise with a rubbish hand, and then hitting 2 pair is not a bluff, but merely a crap play that once again relied 100% on luck and got it. I play poker for fun, and whether it be for play money, $1 or £100, I would still play them as if they were all the same value and meant the same. I try to play a skillful game, but I've realised that against these players no skill in the world is any use, so the only way to keep any sanity about poker is to avoid them... hence one of the reasons why I like Cryptologic and not Prima. When I'm entering STT's, unless I know the players, I avoid Scandanavians and Americans like the plague... no offence to you or PeeGee. I have no problems being beaten by good poker (even if it is frustrating), but I do have problems beeing beaten by Scandanvian and American crap.
  5. Re: What's your favourite site? Part 1 12 hours has gone by just about, and now, in a calm way, I can tell you that you still don't understand because you still talk about "posting a dead". I showed this thread to a poker player friend and the first thing he said to me whilst reading it was "what does it mean by posting a dead?" There is no such thing! You can only post Big Blinds and Small Blinds, and Ante's if they are used. A Dead Button is a Dead Button... and that's it; you don't post it! Not even in cash games. Maybe I should confuse you even more by saying that in 7-card stud they don't have blinds, but something called a "bring-in", where the lowest card showing posts the Bring-in. So, here you could be unlucky and post the Bring-in on a number of consecutive occasions, but on the other hand you could go a whole game without ever posting it. Now, let's leave the rules of poker for another thread and get back to the poll. My opinions still stand!

  6. Re: What's your favourite site? Part 1

seriously..I'm not trying to wind you up..I just don't get it
Obviously! I assume (maybe wrongly) that you are on about sitting out a hand as the blinds get to you. That is not what I am on about and is not a dead button! Ok, calm down! Deep breath! Explanation... for one last time. If a player who is on the SB goes out, the button should move to that seat even though no one is sitting there. This is known as a dead button. The player who was on the BB will be the SB and the next player will be the BB. Another example... The SB and BB both go out on the same hand. The button moves to where the SB sat, the new SB is now an empty seat and therefore only a BB is posted. This is also a dead button, as will be the next hand too. PRIMA DO NOT DO THAT. THEY MOVE THE BUTTON A COUPLE OF PLACES AND A PLAYER CAN MISS A BB AND MAYBE EVEN AN SB, THEREFORE POSTING NO BLINDS AT ALL FOR ONE ROUND. If you've ever played a tourney on cryptologic, you will know that they do it right. On a number of occasions I have posted a BB when there has been no SB, everyone else has folded and the dealer message says "xxx wins 0 chips" NOW DO YOU UNDERSTAND??? It is NOT a concious decision by you to sit out a couple of hands.
  7. Re: What's your favourite site? Part 1

heheheehehehe... You are a very angry boy..ok, so heres what we'll do. I'll go and play a quick few hands at betfair and see what happens when I miss the blind. Fair enough?
FFS - you can't miss a blind. You obviously don't understand what a dead button is. It is not a concious decision by you to miss a blind, it is the software not working properly. GO FIND SOME POKER RULES, READ UP ON DEAD BUTTON AND POSTING BLINDS.
  8. Re: What's your favourite site? Part 1

Obviously every one "misses" blinds. I do it all the time. What I was trying (and failing ,obviously) to point out. Is that when it has been missed at Prima, then no advantage is gained by this as players are automatically posting blinds (and deads) to get back in the game. Therefore no advantage is gained and their software IS correct.
Go and read the rules! No one... NO ONE is allowed to miss blinds. There is such a thing as a dead button which you obviously don't understand. And Prima don't understand that either. THE SOFTWARE IS WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. Re: What's your favourite site? Part 1

I do hate to pick holes with you, pro... 1. I've played over 100,000 hands on Prima sites. Never, not even once have I ever got away with missing a blind. 2. The software should be easy to use on every site to anyone with an IQ of 50 - they don't market soley to genius players like ourselves 3. Prima also allowstransactions to and from debit cards 4. Whats wrong with playing americans exactly? 5. IF YOU CAN'T HANDLE SMALL WRITING - GET YOUR EYES CHECKED ;)
Wow - you sure do have a bee in your bonnet! If you ever decide to look up he rules of poker, you will know that no player is allowed to miss blinds. On prima, if a player gets knocked out and the button should be at that seat next, the software skips that seat and moves it to the next seat, hence players missing blinds. And if you haven't missed a blind in 100,000 hands, then I guess you've just been unlucky. With regards to use of software, it is MY opinion that cryptologic is the easiest to use. On Boss Media, for example, they put the bet button in a crap place, right next to the amount box, and if you try to select the amount in the box to change it and accidentally move over the bet button, it bets the minimum amount. And finally, not ALL Prima sites allow debit card withdrawals. You obviously like Prima. That's fine by me, you're entitled to your opinion. And this is an opinion poll, so, simply put your opinion in and stop giving me hassle!
  10. Re: Sporting Odds March MTT League - Leg 6 well, sitting nicely on top now with just under 9k, but could have had about 19k if I hadn't folded AQ when jaded raised with AJ and dan dan re-raised with JJ, and then a couple of hands later folded pocket 2's when someone raised before me... and flop came 2JJ for a full house. Raiser had pocket A's. Never mind, keep it going. GL to all PL'ers still in.

  11. Re: What's your favourite site? Part 1

Playtech is Betfred....... B2B .....erm......one sec......
I thought Betfred (and Playgate, Titan, CDPoker, etc) are part of the iPoker network??? :unsure Oh, and my favourite network is most definitely Cryptologic for the following reasons: 1) The software is correct (unlike Prima for example which does not know about a dead button and therefore players can miss blinds). 2) Software is very easy to use. 3) Everything is easy to see unlike some where the writing is so small that it is easy to miss things. 4) In my opinion (unlike most reviews I have read) I think it has the best (most skillful) poker... maybe because of reason 5 below. And my favourite site is Betfair for all the above reasons plus: 1) Of the Cryptologic sites it has the biggest writing - again helps to alleviate mis-reading. 2) The decor is simple, nothing flash and no avatars to clutter up the place. 3) You can deposit and, more importantly, withdraw from and back to a debit card... and minimum deposit is only £5. 4) The cashier section shows total deposits and withdrawals as well as having a comprehensive and easy to follow statement of transactions. 5) Very few americans or scandanavians. When Betfair move away from Cryptologic I sincerely hope they don't lose all of these things. Now, Betfair, do I get my free £50 :ok :D
  12. Re: PL Poker night live - Birmingham, 25/03/06: Confirm here

I think we setlled on Big Andy's sugestion of 2k chips and 20 minute blinds. I think we're starting at 25/50. Legs 11 is about 2 minutes walk away, although I won't be joining you as Mrs. PAULM03 is coming.
Paul - I think a few preferred the prizefund split to be 50%, 30% and 20% as this was the norm.
  13. Re: PL Poker night live - Birmingham, 25/03/06: Confirm here

There was quite a few structures mentioned in that link but I'm guessing the one above is the one we will be using? ..and how far away is that *cough*dancing club*cough* :dude ;)
That's a nasty cough you have there. I think you should stay stay at home and not pass on your germs to others. And stay off the smoking, drinking and women... that's obviously the problem. :D
  14. Re: Advice please...... I've been organising 'home' games once a fortnight after work since last June. The 'home' is in quotes because we play in the reception area of a local hotel. Because I wanted to only play for fun (and as most of the others were new to the game), the first one was for no money. Unfortunately, one or two played any old crap, so we decided to put in an entry fee of £1, winner takes all. Normally get between 5 and 10 players, although I have around 18 names on my distribution list. And the standard of the games is now very high... which goes to show that you don't need huge prizes to have a good game - we all play for pride, and everyone wants to win. If we have more than 8 players then the top 2 places are paid, and then 3 places if over 12 (which we haven't had yet, but it will happen very soon I think). The last thing I want is for someone to go out 1st hand, so we do tend to start with quite a healthy stack, minimum 7k but could be as high as 13k depending on number of players. We use the same blind structure as most casinos do, and we used to increase levels when the button got back to the seat (or passed it if that person had been knocked out) where it started. Using this method the blinds go up slower to start with whilst most players are still in, but then increase every 2 hands when you get to heads-up, thus ensuring no one is sitting out for too long. The blinds are capped at 4k/8k. We only play one game now (used to be 2) as I have developed a countdown clock and the level increases are generally set at around 15 mins. There are so many home games being set up these days that it can sometimes be difficult to get enough players, but we are still managing to keep our games going. Next one is on Wednesday this week.

Hang on to it, may not be long before a divorce. And, did God help you? If so, how? Was he looking at others cards (had a feeling someone was looking over my shoulder), or giving you advice on how to play??? Whichever, I'd say that's cheating. I'm afraid you are going to have to forfeit your 1st place and be relagated. Won't be too mean, you can have 2nd! ;) Hopethat dress still fits. :lol Nice one Chelski, well played.
