  1. Re: Rugby World Cup 2007 - Official Thread Cheers for Lamont - already settled as winner at Bet365 :cow And Habana and Petersen still with a decent chance-esp. Habana.

Current thoughts are: Overall - I can only really see the winner coming from one of the semi finalists which I expect to be NZ, SA, Aus and France. Brian Habana looks good value at 16/1 (Bet365) with an each way payout for finishing in the top 4 however his group is not as easy as NZ/Australia's. This guy could score against anyone though such is his pace and finishing quality. That's more than could be said for his countryman JP Pietersen, who is available at as much as 66/1. Despite the tempting price and the fact he might play against the weaker teams from watching him twice I can only assume JP stands for Joke Player, fast as hell but looks like he's never played before, I would like some reassurance that this is not a worthwhile bet! Looking at France and NZ you can see the tries being shared around and French players will also suffer from being in a tougher group. Hard to really pick out one player from these two especially as Rokocoko is now down to 5/1. For Australia I fancy Tuqiri to run in a few especially if he got a chance against Japan or Canada, and 40/1 looks tasty for a guy who will see a lot of the ball. Top NZ Tryscorer - I quite like the look of Carter here at 20/1 (skybet), will probably only miss 1 game I would imagine and would be a decent payout at 1/4 odds if he finished in top 3. Has scored 20 international tries in 41 games and has a knack of running them in on the big occasion (e.g. Lions tour 2005). For those of you looking to bet on Nick Evans he is available at an amazing 40/1 with Skybet for this market. Going to have 2pt E/W on that now in fact before it disappears. Top Scotland Tryscorer - Rory Lamont at 14/1 (bet365) could be the bet here, was one of the few Scots to do well against South Africa and could well get a runout against Romania and Portugal. Deserves to be in the starting lineup ahead of Southwell IMO. Top France Tryscorer - Hard to pick a winner with so many equally skilled players especially outwide, but Vincent Clerc at 9/1 (again skybet!) looks high for someone I would expect to be first choice. Top Ireland Tryscorer - O'Driscoll is 7/1 with effectively a one match handicap over the other players (missing Namibia game). It's true he could miss others but is likely to play every game he's fit for and should finish in the top 3. He's the same price as Brian Carney which is daft. Top England Tryscorer - Not much here, maybe someone like Tait who can be had at 20/1 and may get a few against the weaker group sides. Alternatively a forward who will fall over the line 3/4 times in one of those games, not much by way of odds for the backrowers though. Top SA Tryscorer - That man JP crops up again, 12/1 (skybet) for this market which is more than I was expecting. Think this one is a bit more sensible but am haunted by visions of him flailing around like Bambi on ice trying to catch a tryscoring pass. Top Aus Tryscorer - Matt Giteau looks a decent E/W bet at 8/1 (skybet/bet365) as he's likely to play nearly every game and could cause some carnage against the minnows. Top Wales Tryscorer - I like the look of Kevin Morgan here at 14/1, pretty much guaranteed to play every game and looked one of our better attacking threats vs France.
  2. Re: World Athletics Championship

What do you guys think of the so called big 2 hills & totesport not bothering to run a book on the world champs , they can't wait to price up the horse racing when half the field nowadays are probably not even in the race to win but run scared of events where everybodys trying and past form means something
As far as I can see Hills runs a book.
  3. Re: Snooker: Shanghai Masters

Completely different kettle of fish mate. It's one thing going through the draw in best of 9 lotteries in the 1st event of the season when everyone's rusty but 17 days at the Crucible is completely different.
Atleast he reached the quarters at the 2000 World Championship, but I guess you're right.
  4. Re: Snooker: Shanghai Masters

Maybe you should have put that here a month ago Ridle' date=' bit like after eventing now. :([/quote'] I'm sorry and I didn't mean to after-event, just wanted to put the article here in case anyone cared(better late than never!) - and was hoping for some input on the final tomorrow.:unsure
  5. Re: Rugby League: Super League XII - Round 3

For the game tonight between the Saints and Brisbane, I've gone for: HT Margin Bris 1-8 @ 3.1 Sportinbget St Helens +10.5 @ 1.85 TAB ------ First Try - Shaun Berrigan @ 21 Skybet First Try - Steve Michaels @ 15 TAB Last Try - Dane Carlaw @ 51 Skybet Last Try - Corey Parker @ 41 TAB Might look to have 1-2 more bets depending on what further markets are opened over here. Brisbane to be leading at ht by 1-8 looks to be the best bet of the game here IMO. I expect Brisbane to win, although felt the handicap was too large on the Saints, and so felt obliged to take it at odds. Back onto the HT bet, I am anticipating a relatively tight start to the game. We don't like to throw the ball around early on and we'll look to get ourselves into the game with simple football. Unfortunately I don't know too much about the Saints, but I am hoping they will look to put their poor results behind them and come out strongly. Brisbane though, are surely the better team on paper and given the professional preparation put into this game I expect them to win. Of the tryscorer bets I like Steve Michaels most. We have this play we like to pepper where we go left from the ruck and Lockyer/Hunt interplay and one throws a money ball to the left wing. I think Hodges is out on the left tonight too, which will give that flank more of a threat. Would have taken Michaels anytime but 1.57 with Skybet looked a bit short.
Amazing Tipping man - played the handicap, decided to back Brisbane 1-4 at HT at TAB because 1-8 wasn't available at Sportingbet. Also great call on the unders by you guys! Just looking at this threak again, didn't noticed you picked Parker for LAST try - played him for first heh :cheers
  6. Re: Alpine skiing, Alta Badia MEN'S Slalom, 18/10 There's only two bets you can make on Miller in a Slalom - win or not to finish - and you can even get 2.5+ on him to finish. Also he starts from position 31!!! Just look at his stats, he has not finished any of the last 8 slalom races:

03-12-2006 Beaver Creek, CO USA FIS World Cup Slalom DNF1
12-11-2006 Levi FIN FIS World Cup Slalom DNQ1
18-08-2006 Coronet Peak JPN FIS Race Slalom DSQ1
27-03-2006 Sugarloaf, ME USA National Championships Slalom DNF1

  7. Re: World footballer of the year Guess what It all looks like a big stunt - marca yesterday reported Cannavaro clearly won the FIFA award over Zidane and Ronaldinho only in 3rd place. Betfair market swung back and Canna's being matched at 1.01 - looks like someone manipulated the market to earn some bucks or the FIFA did it by purpose to find out who leaks the information. Madrid - Italy's World Cup-winning captain Fabio Cannavaro is set to be named the Fifa World Player of the Year, reported Spanish radio station Cadena SER on Sunday. Cadena SER even went so far as to publish details of the poll, ahead of the award ceremony in the Swiss city of Zurich on Monday, with the Real Madrid defender getting 498 votes. The radio station did not reveal their source of the voting details although they have strong links with the Spanish giants and have been ahead of their opposition with big stories concerning Real.

It's not difficult to understand that he should receive this award
Normally the Fifa World Player of the Year voting is only revealed to the media an hour or so before the televised announcement, and then only on a strictly embargoed basis.

The award is decided by voting from the coaches and captains of Fifa's member nations. - Sapa-AFP

According to Cadena SER, France's retired three-time winner Zinedine Zidane, who finished his career in controversy by getting sent off in the World Cup final, is second this time with 454 votes. Zidane also spent the past five years of his club career at Real Madrid. Brazil and Barcelona's 2004 and 2005 winner Ronaldinho is third with 380 votes. Real Madrid coach Fabio Capello said after his team's 1-0 win at Espanyol that he believed Cannavaro would be a worthy winner. "It's not difficult to understand that he should receive this award because the World Cup is the World Cup and there he was the major player in the world," said Capello. If Cannavaro was to win it will more than make up for him being sent off on Sunday for the first time since he accompanied Capello and joined Real Madrid from Juventus in the summer. "It was an unfair sending off because the ball hit him in the face and didn't touch his hand, like the referee thought," added Capello. The Cadena SER report refutes the widely-held opinion that Ronaldinho would lift the award for the third successive year. Cannavaro recently won the European Footballer of the Year Award (Ballon d'Or), which is awarded by France Football magazine. However if Ronaldinho, the Ballon d'Or winner last year, was to win he would become the first player to win Fifa's award three years in a row. Zidane and Brazilian striker Ronaldo have also won the Fifa accolade three times but no one has won it three years in succession.

  8. Re: World footballer of the year I'd rather say they swung against Cannavaro and Zidane - if you look at the uproar caused by Canna's Golden Ball win one can imagine there's certainly a few countries not willing to vote for an Italian - e.g. Spain, France..:sad

Very surprised but it's the national coaches voting who swung it for Ronaldinho if that's the case.
  9. Re: World footballer of the year My guess is its based on Ronnie recent performances - but the voting had been closed way before - can only imagine mug punters backing him.

I am a touch concerned at the betfair prices Ronnie 1.26 Cannavaro 2.04 Zidane 7.6 Only £1000 traded though so not sure how reliable these prices are. Its making me nervous nonetheless :(
