I think the game will be closer than some may think so there should be plenty of legs to get the 180s on the board and I'd be surprised if this line isn't covered.

He is a player that has shown inconsistent form throughout the year but he always finds his form at Ally Pally. He won in 2011 and 2012 and was beaten semi finalist last year and was unlucky to beaten in the quarter final v MVG in 2013. Last night against Chisnall he showed glimpses of what we all know he can do and in the previous tournament at Minehead in the UK open in March he was unstoppable on his way to the title. Another similar showing throughout this weekends tournament will see his World Championship odds tumble to around 8/1 so the I believe that the 14/1 on offer at the moment is outstanding value. Out of the other main candidates for World Championship glory I'd assess their chances as follows:- MVG - Went through a sticky patch in the last month or so and has been missing far too many doubles. Hard task winning the title 2 years on the trot. Taylor - I think he'll be desperate to win it and will end up putting too much pressure on himself leading to an early exit. Anderson - 2 months ago I would have said he'd of been bang in line to win but after his Grand Prix collapse, the missed doubles have crept back in to his game and he'll be punished if that trend continues. Wade - Has been playing fantastic in the last few months and has a really good chance to get his name on the title but psychologically it may be too much for him given how he collapsed when cruising the semi final 3 years ago against Lewis. Best outside chance would be Mervyn King for me. He has been there or thereabouts in most of the tv tournaments this year and even when he has not played well he has fallen over the line. At 66/1 he is good each way value.

Re: Grand Slam of Darts - 8-16 Nov Brendan Dolan to win Group F 9/2 Boylesports The Irishman may be the outsider to be top of the table in a group consisting of Smith, Whitlock and Wright but I believe that Dolan has a very good chance of making it through to the last 16 and winning the group. He has been in fine form in recent tv tournaments and he took MVG to a last leg decider in the European Championship last month and was beat by the eventual winner in James Wade in the Masters last week. I've never rated Dolan that highly in the last few years but he has increased the pace of his throw slightly and this seems to have helped him find a more consistent rhythm along with a new found confidence. Of his opponents he has played Smith on 5 occasions winning easily each time and although he doesn't have a better head to head record against the Wizard or Snakebite he does seem to be on the up whilst the aforementioned appear to be on the decline therefore the 9/2 price could be very nice come the close of play in the group stages.

Klaasen hit 10 180s in his win over Caven yesterday afternoon and looked in excellent form. King is a quick player along with the Dutchman therefore I do not see either player losing their rhythm in what should be a close match. King only hit 4 maximums against Ronny Huybrechts last night but the Belgian is a slow player and the pace of the game today will suit both players. Van Gerwen v Chisnall - Over 10.5 180s 5/6 bet365 Dave Chisnall usually pushes MVG close when they meet each other and I don't seeing this being too different this afternoon. MVG hit 11 180s in his victory over the unlucky Dolan last night but missed a lot of doubles in the process which should give Chizzy plenty of chances to win legs and give a better opportunity of more 180s being hit. Chisnall had 7 maximums in his win over White and, along with the game above, the pace should suit both players bringing out the best in each other with plenty of high scores.

Looking at the Motherwell v St Mirren game. Last season motherwell were on fire, in over/under 2.5 goal performance at home. They were over 2.5 goals in 12 of their last 13 home games. They scored in every one of their last 10 at home, and 8 of those games were BTTS. In 6 of their last 11 they scored 2 1st half goals. This is against a St Mirren team that did not keep a clean sheet in their last 13 games away (conceded 2 or more goals in 10 of 13 away games) Over 2.5 goals looks good at odds of 5/6 on betvictor for 2 units. ANy opinions here ?

5/6 is pretty good value. In our 2 European games we drew them both 2-2 in 90 minutes before going out in extra time against Stjarnan, a semi-professional, of Iceland. We've came out the blocks very well early on in these games but tend to struggle the longer a game goes on which was a common trait of last season. 2-0 up against St Mirren, Hibs and Celtic and end up 3-2, 3-3 and 3-3 in these games in 2014 without winning any of them. The older heads in the team have came back from preseason looking unfit and we've replaced a poor goalkeeper with another poor goalkeeper in Twardzik who is far too small to be successful in my opinion. There are injury concerns ahead of Saturday and our main playmaker, Vigurs, is out suspended. I think we'll be good enough to score but very much doubt we're capable of keeping a clean sheet. St Mirren tend to cause us problems at Fir Park and should get a lift with the new boss in charge. St Mirren at 4/1 with Boylesports is huge just to win. Both teams to score at 4/5 with 32RED looks appealing too.

Re: Europa League Second Qual Round 2nd Leg - Tues 22 July to Thurs 24 July Motherwell to beat Stjarnan 9/5 Coral Although the first leg finished 2-2 on Thursday night at Fir Park I was surprised to see Motherwell as outsiders for the return leg in Iceland. Motherwell were very comfortable at 2-0 and looked like sewing up the tie before the second leg when 2-0 up early on last week. However a penalty for the visitors prior to half time gave them the confidence to improve in the second half and snatch a draw at the death from the penalty spot. Stjarnan are well into their season and this was Motherwell's first competitive game of the season last week so I'd expect an improved and more professional performance from Motherwell as they were a bit off the pace in the second half last week. I'd expect Stuart McCall to have the team fully focused for this game as it is crucial in terms of finances to qualify for the next round. Stjarnan are a semi professional team and I feel that Motherwell should have enough class to get over the line.

Some may be asking why Chizzy is in the ten man line up this year but he had a very good 2013 up until his 6-0 defeat to Phil Taylor in the World Grand Prix in Dublin in October. Ever since then he seems to have been devoid of confidence, missing match darts in the first round of the World Championship against John Henderson and performing below par in other tournaments such as the Grand Slam in November. Tomorrow night will be a new experience for him but I don't think playing in the party atmosphere of the Premier League will suit him. On a few occasions he has stepped away from the board when on a double for the crowd to quieten down and this could work against Chizzy. This is Thorntons second year in the PL and if he can produce his normal steady game he should have too much for the new boy. Wes Newton to beat Peter Wright 2/1 various I like the look of Newton in the repeat of the quarter final clash at the World Championships which went to a deciding set with Snakebite prevailing. In the World Championships Wright tended to start his matches slowly going behind against Newton, MVG, Smith and Laursen in the early stages of theses matches. With it being a best of 12 encounter tomorrow night it doesn't give Wright much time to find his rhythm and Newton can take advantage of this and punish him early on. At the German Darts Championship at the weekend Wright appeared to have changed his darts setup again and this didn't help when averaging 81 in defeat to Wayne Jones. Similar to the match above Newton has the advantage of playing in the PL last year whereas this is Wrights debut and it could take a few weeks for him to get in his stride.

Taylor destroyed a pathetic Wade 10-1 2 weeks ago in Edinburgh and won handsomely in the World Grand Prix 5-1 (in sets) last month. In both of these tournaments Wade had been playing well until he encountered Taylor in the semi finals and then went onto put in well below par performances. To cover the line tonight Taylor has to win 16-9 or better which I believe to be quite a kind line by the bookies. If Taylor gets off to a storming start we could see Wade giving up early on and struggle to win a handful of legs. Taylor has averaged over 100 all tournament whereas Wade has averaged 92,94,94 and 97 in his 4 games. If the averages go the same way tonight there should be more than 6 legs between the 2 as it is hard to see Wade taking out the pressure shots against Taylor. Agree with the posts above with regards to the overs in the 180s market in the Lewis Huybrechts game. Both players are playing lovely darts at the moment and should feed off each other like they did in Edinburgh 2 weeks ago in a thrilling contest. It is hard to see the game not going over 26 legs so there should be ample time for plenty of 180s to be hit. In addition it would be advisable for anyone thinking of having a punt on Huybrechts for the World Championship next month to get on him early as I can only see the price drop. At 40/1 with a few bookmakers he looks a very good value each way bet. He's playing better than Van Gerwen at the moment in my opinion. MVG is 5/1 and Huybrechts 40/1, with a good performance tonight I am sure we'll see the odds tumble again.

St Johnstone beat the league leaders Hamilton Accies comfortably in the last round away from home and I'd expect them to proceed with ease again. They are good side and have a lot of quality going forward that should be far too strong for Morton. Stevie May has been impressive this term having spent time out on loan to the lower leagues the last 2 seasons but he's taking his goal scoring form into the SPFL and this game should be right up his street. Morton have lost 5 of their last 6 and were hammered 5-1 by fellow strugglers Cowdenbeath last week. I'd expect the price on St Johnstone to fall before Wednesday so the 8/11 on offer at the moment is good value.

[World Grand Prix 7th-13th October]

The World Grand Prix begins tomorrow night in Dublin with the double in double out format making it a bit different from the usual proceedings. Last year saw Michael Van Gerwen making his mark in the PDC by winning his first "major" against Mervyn King in a controversial final. Since 2005 only Taylor and Wade had won the tournament prior to last year and I see no reason as to why a top 4 player in the world won't win this time around. Adrian Lewis to win 8/1 (each way) Boylesports The one that I like to come through this tournament is Adrian Lewis. The 2 time World Champion has copped a lot of flak in the past couple of years for being poor in the tournaments outwith the world championships, however in the past few months he has shown more than enough to suggest that his desire and passion for the game is still there. He won the PDC pro tour tournament yesterday in Dublin beating Brendan Dolan, who he plays in the first round, and although he only made it to the last 32 today he'll be more than happy with his weekends work. Yesterdays result indicates he is coming into the event in good form and he should be full of confidence going into his first round game on Tuesday night against the home favourite. Jackpot's last few tv appearances have been impressive including winning the European Championship in Germany and finishing runner up to Phil Taylor in the World Matchplay at Blackpool at the end of July. I don't think there is much between him and MVG so the 8/1 on offer for Lewis is without doubt the value bet.

The Dons have made a good start to the season with 2 wins out of 3 winning impressively against Kilmarnock at Pittodrie, more than the scoreline suggested, and beating Motherwell 3-1 at Fir Park. Their defeat came last week against Celtic with goalkeeper Langfield being sent off at 0-0. Hearts have won, lost and drawn so far into the season but I feel their lack of experience can be exposed against an Aberdeen side who are very threatening going forward with McGinn and Hayes. The addition of Flood to midfield looks a good move and they seem to be quite strong at the back. Hearts on the other hand have very little experience and the youngsters can't be expected to put in the kind of performance they showed against Hearts 2 weeks ago. There will be a lot of ups and downs for them this season and I think Aberdeen will have too much quality in the final third for Hearts to handle.

The Plane doesn't arrive back in Scotland until 6am Friday so we will probably see a tired side on Sunday similar to yesterdays performance v Hibs. There's talk of McCall leaving a few first team players in Scotland this week as we are basically out of Europe which would be good for Sunday. Aberdeen look to be much improved from last season and should of won by more than one on Saturday going by reports/highlights. They will bring a big support down on Sunday and they've knocked us out the Scottish Cup the last 2 seasons at Fir Park. I would say Aberdeen look big at 2/1 at the moment and would expect the odds to come in over the week.

I would expect tonight to be different though now that he is playing Taylor who is a lot slower than MVG. Lewis has averaged 87,97 and 96 against Huybrechts, Dolan and Hamilton respectively who all have similar throwing speeds to Taylor. Taylor however has averaged 103,103,104 and 108 in his matches against Kellett, Jenkins, Pipe and Wade. If Lewis averages under 100 tonight it is hard to see him push Taylor to the very end in this length of match. In the 2011 Grand Slam the pair met in the semi finals with Taylor winning 16-9 with Lewis putting on a very impressive display in the process including a perfect 10 darter (one bounce out). It is no coincidence that Taylor has won the last 5 matchplay titles at Blackpool and he should have enough in hand tonight to see Lewis off by more than 4 legs.

Although he was beaten in the World Championship Quarter Final in December he had had match darts and produced one of his best performances for a long time in that encounter. In the Premier League it was 1-1 in the head to heads between the 2 and Lewis got the better of Van Gerwen 11-8 at the European Championships 3 weeks ago in Germany averaging just over 100 then going on to win the tournament seeing off Whitlock in the final. Lewis showed great fighting spirit last night to comeback against Hamilton and will take confidence from that. MVG can miss doubles at times and I'd expect Lewis to match him closely in the scoring stakes giving him plenty of opportunities in this match. It should be close but at the prices Lewis is the value bet for me.

Both averaged 97 in their victories over the weekend with Wade having a checkout % of 45% and Anderson 53% which is unusually high for the Scotsman. Anderson tends to miss a barrel load of doubles on TV and Wade knows he can slow the pace of the game down to frustrate Anderson. Andersons TV record in the last 18 months has been extremely poor for someone of his talent including finishing bottom in the premier league for 2 consecutive years and exiting the UK open in the last 32 twice. His best performance was a quarter final in the players championship. Wade has 3 finals, 1 semi final and 1 quarter final to his name in the world matchplay over the last 5 years so he clearly loves the venue and I see no reason as to why he shouldn't proceed to the quarter finals tonight.

They suffered torture in the final last year losing 5-1 to their closest rivals, Hearts, and have been impressive in the road to the semi finals this season seeing off Hearts, Aberdeen and Kilmarnock in the process. On the other hand Falkirk have had a fairly starightforward route to the semi finals beating Stenhousemuir, Forfar and Hamilton Accies. Although Hibs have not been on form since their quarter final win they should be too strong tomorrow and with Leigh Griffiths up front they have a player that can win a game single handedly for them. Falkirk have a young and inexperienced squad that may freeze on the big stage whereas Hibs will be determined to make the final again after last years horror show.

Re: Scottish Football > 5th - 10th March Hibernian v Hearts Under 2.5 goals 4/5 stanjames Don't see there being many goals in the Edinburgh derby tomorrow, all 3 games between the 2 sides this season have been under 2.5 goals (1-1,1-0,0-0) with Hibs coming out on top in the Scottish Cup. After last years 5-1 defeat in the Scottish Cup final it seems that Pat Fenlon's objective against their bitter rivals was not to be beaten. In the cup there was very few chances for either side and in the game at the beginning of the year Hibs seemed happy to take a point and very rarely ventured forward. I don't see them being as negative with their approach tomorrow but they'd be happy with a 1-0 win. Hearts are not a great side at the moment but are reasonably strong at the back with Webster and Wilson who should stop Hibs from creating too many opportunities.

I would be surprised if there is not a few goals in this game as we have seemed to have turned the corner in the last 2 months with our home performances and most importantly in the goalscoring department. We've scored 15 in our last 5 home matches and conceded 7 in the process. We have been good going forward recently with plenty of threat coming from the pace of Humphrey, Ojamaa's trickery and Higdon has finished well. Last night it was confirmed that James McFadden has signed up unitl the end of the season, he's in the squad for tonight and the fans are buzzing about the legend returning. United have been poor at Tannadice this season but have performed better away from home. Their last 9 away games have went over 2.5 goals and there is plenty of threat going forward from Mackay Steven, Russell and Daly. Both defences have been suspect all season, with Utd conceding 6 at Parkhead on Saturday and they are without Gunning.

Re: Premier League 2013 - Week 2 Raymond Van Barneveld to beat Wes Newton 4/6 boylesports I really fancy Barneveld to come out on top in this encounter, Newton made his premier league debut against Wade last week and found it difficult by missing 19 out of 23 doubles in his 7-4 defeat. Newton is a good player but I don't think he has the mental strength that will see him do well in the big tournaments as he tends to miss doubles at the key moments. He has had little time to settle in to the premier league environment and it is hard to see him producing the goods against Barney, who averaged 102 against Anderson last week. 99% of the crowd in Aberdeen will be behind Barney and as I said last week he has a bit more fight and passion in his game in the past 3 months which gives the punter confidence in backing him.
