  1. Re: One to take on Clan Royal Totally agree. Vicars Destiny loves soft ground, the heavier the better. It runs well over long trips on the flat and should have no problem with the 3mile trip today. Is currently on a decent handicap mark and has a very realistic chance of a win today. I took the best odds guaranteed on Bet 365 and it's just drifted.

  2. Re: Rugby League: Super League - Round 5 I had the following small treble Bulls -12 Leeds -28 St Helens -12 Bulls already let me down but i'm quite confident that Saints will win comfortably. Would you advise a fairly large bet on St Helens??? I'm more of a football and horse racing punter but if there is value to be had taking Saints at -12 then i'm on it.

  3. Re: Jeff Lacy-Joe Calzhage: Manchester, 04/03/06 I forgot to ask those of you that went to the fight, what is the view like and where were you sat? I have been to the M.E.N for concerts and the view was terrible from the opposite end of the stage. I could have got tickets for the fight but didn't bother as I thought the view would be poor for a boxing match. I'm sure the atmosphere was electric though.

  4. Re: Jeff Lacy-Joe Calzhage: Manchester, 04/03/06 I went for a 10pt win on Calzaghe before the fight. I was considering lumping more money on during the fight. As I said in an earlier post Class is permanent. I had faith in him and he produced one of the best boxing performances in years. He made a world champion look ordinary and whether he's welsh, english, irish, scottish, it doesn't matter at all. Its about boxing. The repeat is on now on ITV. The fight should have been stopped, Lacy took too many head shots and is lucky to have made it to the end.

  5. Re: Jeff Lacy-Joe Calzhage: Manchester, 04/03/06 There is a big write up in the sports section of todays Racing Post They are advising an 8 point bet on Calzaghe at 11-8. I don't know if some people have taken this bet as he is now in to 5-4. We have to remember Calzaghe fought with an injured hand before so we can discount that fight. I actually do fancy Calzaghe to win but think it will probably go to points. If Lacy just keeps walking forward and attacking he will be jabbed to defeat. Calzaghe has speed and power despite being the older fighter. We can say the Eubank fight was years ago and is in the past but remember how good he looked back then. If he is not up for this fight then he deserves to lose but I think he will be on his game and totally focused tonight. Form is temporary, class is permanent and I think Calzaghe is class.

  6. For me it has to be DUNBRODY MILLAR. It was still running on strong last time out when all the other horses were beaten. It will dictate the pace from the front, jumps well, is a relentless galloper and should have enough in the tank when all the others are tired over this marathon trip of 4m 1f. Still available at around 5-1,6-1 and i'm confident it will be there at the end of the race. Has bags of stamina and although up in weight has a 3lb claimer on it and he rode it to victory last time out.

  7. Birdwatch in the 3.50 race and Aston Lad in the 4.25 race. Form is linked with both horses after they both ran well at Wetherby on Boxing Day. Both battled well and looked genuine. Birdwatch has run since and won, Aston Lad is first race since boxing day. If Birdwatch wins the 3.50 it is a further compliment to the form of Aston Lad and a pointer to note.

  8. Re: Fri 10/2/06, Bangor 1.30pm It's one to keep an eye on. Tom George put 3 up to follow at start of season. The Piker, Lord of Illusion and Idle Talk. Idle Talk runs Saturday, Lord of Illusion is going for the grand national. I've taken it e-w at 40's. It's now 25-1. Jumps well and should carry a decent weight all being well. Good value ew bet.

  9. Small ew bet on The Piker. Tom George rates this as one of his best horses in training but as yet it hasn't transferred its excellent work at home onto the racecourse. It is supposed to look great at home yet hasn't lived up to its trainers expectations. Expected to be around 100-1 which could look like great value if it runs anywhere near what it's capable.

  10. I have taken a very early 40-1 on Lord Of Illusion with Bet 365. Other firms are pricing it at 25s and 33s. The trainer says it will be aimed at the national, jumps well and has plenty of stamina. Finished 2nd last time out but will probably appreciate the marathon trip. I'd think it will be there at the end when plenty of others have fallen.

  11. Re: Cheltenham Ante post thread I certainly agree with those who mention Hoo La Baloo. It seems that Racing Demon will only run if the ground is soft and Hoo La Baloo has jumped really well all season. I really like Voy Por Ustedes but i'm not sure what it is aimed at. A novice chaser with a big future, jumps really well and seemed classier than the last lot of horses it beat. Good formline with le Volfoni which keeps complimenting its form and has won several times too. Unsure about King George but wise bet seems to be a large priced each way.

  12. Re: Cracking E/W Heros Collonges Runs today at Aintree in the Becher Chase. Form line reads 1P8-, hasn't run for 225 days but is from Paul Nicholls stable and the trainer fancies it's chances. He has a column on teletext channel 4 P557/558. The drop back in trip will suit and it's currently around 14-1, a decent each way bet. RACING POST SPOTLIGHT, says the following: Had injury problems but retains plenty of ability, successful in Listed chase at Wincanton in February and handled these fences well, after recovering from error at first, in the National (in with a chance before stamina ran out after two from home); one to consider with this shorter trip in his favour and fitness not a worry with one from this yard.

  13. Re: Notebook - for the flat Saraaf ran today with jamie Spencer on board. I fancied it to do well and it set off with an SP of 8-1. It broke out of the stalls poorly and was racing 2nd last for most of the race. It looked like it had no chance until absolutely flying at the end and taking 2nd place. With a better start to the race would have won by about 5 lengths. Definitely one to keep an eye on. Other horses I'm waiting for are Cashier and Woody Valentine.
