  1. Re: Tennis > 10-16 May

In short because it's Almagro. Very rarely bet on him.....when I do it feels like a lost bet as soon as I place it. Trying to guess how the game may play out...check weather tomorrow and time of match....if it's playing fast Almagro has a shot at winning some games. Also not shocked at a 6-1 6-1 but I have an inkling he might put up a big fight like Gulbis did against Rafa a few weeks back.
Good points, I take the gut feeling back. Weather will be important. Also, I think Almagro has not played on the centre court yet. And, it could be me, the court(s) he was playing on looked like they were playing faster than the centre court. But, that is probably down to the weather today on centre court. Cold and the roof is still open at the moment.

I wonder about Almagro/Nadal tomorrow.... Almagro is 8/13 to win over 6.5 games and over 19.5 games is at Evens. He has a poor record against Nadal but I think he can roll off some games on serve.....maybe keep one set tight(like 7-5 or 7-6).....Rafa was good today but Almagro is also playing well. Have to think more about this.
Just a question (not a dig!), but how do you think more about something like this? Surely something like this a gut feeling? Having seen both Almagro's last few games and also Nadal, my gut would say this is a good bet :D
  3. Re: Tennis > 10-16 May Yes, not great reasoning for Ferrer. I'm going for a Murray x Federer double (2.97 with Ladbrokes) - I'd look around for odds as these won't be the best. Both have points to prove and this Madrid tournament is their chance to kick on to the French Open and beyond. The courts are fast and this will give them both of them an advantage. I think Federer is a nailed on win but Murray's is probably 55/45 but definitely worth a pop.

  4. Re: Tennis > 10-16 May

few cents from my self although i am not involved in any betting, still watch most of the matches daily - i remember a guy in other forum, when i said "i watched vedasco/soderling madrid final, came to me like a policeman saying "hey is impossible you traveled in barcelona, you are mytho-man!" hahaha i am still laughing, jesus crist i watch the games from TV ok?- Lets speak seriously, this tournament introdused some new elements of the sport; For example, the clayless Baghdatis- a guy that didnt play anything on clay since year 2007- was one class above clay specialist Ferrer, and only baghdatis silly mistakes allowed hopeless ferrer to win the match. Bagh totally outplayed ferrer, with massive powerfull game, and very smart net aproachings, perhaps he decided to commit suicide that night, so he "gifted" the match to the spaniard who had the support of full stadium. Today, same scenario repeated: the lefthanded Melzer gave a tremendous lesson to very very poor verdasco, but a verdasco been considered as huge favourite before start of the match. Melzer with basic game, not that impressive, but good agressive mentality, he simply destroyed the overated spaniard- one of the most ugly performances i ever watched- My conclusion is that in new decate of twenty -first century, players are playing well, no matter the surface is. I mean they dont forget in their hotel rooms the tennis they know, coz of surface. This is the post-modern era of tennis just begining now; i wouldnt be surprised to see John Isner winning the roland garros, and i dont mention andy roddick, coz roddick "hates" clay as part of his mentality This is the surfaceless era of tennis in my opinion Lets see Players i like among others to do huge surprises during roland garros are : Gulbis, Cilic, Isner, Del potro- if he is in good shape- Baghdatis, and Soderling, all of them have in common the powerfull-agressive game see you around :clap
Don't really agree that this is a surfaceless era, far from it. Madrid has the fastest clay courts around and this plays a part in all the results. Nadal is not winning as easily in Madrid as he doesn't dictate all the points on this faster surface. Federer prefers faster courts and is back to winning ways. Verdasco is also not so dominant when it quickens up and players have more of a chance. When we get to the grass court season you will see different types of players dominate, as we do every year. Roland Garros, if you're going to beat Nadal or Federer then you are going to have to be aggressive for 3 to 5 sets and this is tough to do against them - hence their record.
  5. Re: Tennis > 10-16 May

Petrova and Gulbis got good wins for me today, Tsonga a void.
Yes, thank you :clap for the heads up on Petrova. I took that as well. I watched the match from just before she got broke in the first and did think it was lost but Serena had a bit of a meltdown and Petrova stepped up. Don't usually watch much women's tennis, but this was a good match.
  6. Re: Tennis > 10-16 May

Btw watching the teniis matches with Hungarian commentators is pretty amusing... I mean they sound like they are having a great time. All I can make out is: Hungarian, Hungarian, Hungarian, Mike Tyson, Hungarian, HA HA HA, some more Hungarian, Kournikova, Lindsey Lohan, Hungarian, President Obama, Hungarian, Hungarian (I could have sworn I heard Keyser Soze)..... Man I need a translator because I would love to figure out what they are saying
Haven't heard hungarian but this is comedy gold from the Arabic Federer lover!
  7. Re: Tennis 3-9 May Thought it might be worth a mention about the French Open. It's still possible that Djokovic may be ranked second going into the tournament. This throws up the possibility of Federer and Nadal being in the same half and therefore maybe worth betting on a couple of outsiders (each way of course) to get to the final? Or not really? Verdasco is at 20/1 most places.

  8. Re: Tennis 19-25 April

    Bellucci d. Garcia Lopez 6-4 6-4/Schwank d. Navarro 6-3 7-6 - WIN :ok Verdasco d. Melzer 3-6 7-6 6-3 - LOSS :@ I was willing Melzer to break at 5-4 in the second, but he couldn't convert his 0-30 chance.
Unlucky on Melzer, the in play on Verdasco must have been quite good at that point! What about Gulbis tomorrow? The guys on Sky Sports were talking about it and seem to reckon he has a decent shot at Verdasco.
  9. Re: Tennis 19-25 April

Early break for Bellucci but he'll get chances. Plenty of tennis yet to be played in that one.
Seems like Victor has got his act together in the second set and converting more chances. Hopefully he can continue the same way and keep spanking him! :spank
  10. Re: Tennis 19-25 April

Really tough one to call mate. This tournament is proving a bit of a nightmare at the moment' date=' so I'm being very picky with my matches. Bellucci's got the potential to be a Top 15 player in my book but he's not quite there yet. Hanescu plays his best tennis when he's fresh, so he'll be a big threat. He's got W19 L20 record against lefties and smashed one in Andreas Beck yesterday. Odds are probably a bit too big but I can't find enough reasons to back him.[/quote'] Ahh, I just backed him. Fingers crossed :hope
  11. Re: Tennis 19-25 April

Monaco's odds lengthening a bit. He played bad against Jarko and lost to Berrer who never plays on clay. May not be 100%. Gimeno-Traver has some ok results on the dirt this year, he beat Alamgro, and took sets off Nalby, Montanes and Gasquet. Gimeno-Traver @ 4.00 on boylesports Lay Monaco 2-0 @ 1.85 on betfair
Thanks for this! :nana I took a small bet on it (probably should have gone bigger) as soon as I saw that you put Monaco had lost to Berrer on clay. I saw Berrer against Nadal and he was atrocious. Great stuff. Thank you!
  12. Re: Tennis - 12-18 April

I'm tempted to lay against Ivan Ljubicic' date=' he never does anything of worth on clay... I'll :zzz on it...[/quote'] French Open Semi Finals 2006? and from wikipedia about 2009: Ljubičić received a wild card into the Monte Carlo Masters and in the 2nd round defeated Juan Martín del Potro 4-6, 6-1, 6-4. He proceeded to the quarterfinals where he was defeated by 4-time defending champion Rafael Nadal 6-3, 6-3. Because of his strong play at Monte Carlo, Ljubičić again received a wild card into the 2009 Madrid Masters. He again defeated a top ten player in the 2nd round, beating #9 seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-4, 7-5. He then defeated #8 seed Gilles Simon 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 to reach his 3rd QF at a Masters 1000 event. He was defeated by Novak Djokovic 6-4, 6-4 in the quarterfinals.
