  1. Re: Best Bet Of The Day - Wed 27/5/09 I'm absolutely mental. 16:10 Lingfield A strong field here, and will be a close race. I'm going for one of the outsiders in Diriculous. Has a good record on the all-weather, placing in 12 of it's 16 races. Some of the other horses I have doubts about on the all-weather surface, such as Varley Borzov for example. Some of these may outpace Diriculous, but I'm hoping that the ground is favourable for this one. Not really that much point going E/W on this one, not much to lose. Odds are different everywhere. 1pt Win.

  2. Re: Huntingdon 26/05/09

20:50 Huntingdon Not hold much hope for this one but I feel Wide Receiver has got some chance in this one. Watched his last race and was going well until terribly hampered, which then led to the horse basicially stopping. Felt like it had more to give and added it to my alerts. First race since that incident and it's over a few furlongs further, but think it'll be able to handle it. Is it a low weight too so can perhaps spring a surprise. Horse looked in good shape too. 0.5pt EW

  3. Re: Best bet of the day 26th May 15:10 Redcar I think there is a distinct EW possibility at good odds in experienced campaigner Efidium. Most definitely prefers a distance of 1mile or over, has been racing recently at 7f and has most definitely struggled. It's record at 1m+ distances is much better and this horse has placed/won at a better standard than this at this sort of distance. Might struggle with the extra 1f as it has never won at this exact distance, but I believe it can definitely be up there with a shout and get it's nose in the top 3. Tempted to go for a win again but lightning won't strike twice, so EW. 0.5pt EW

  5. OK, I'm going to sound like a complete knob here, but here goes.:$:$ When you're in a bookies shop, how exactly do you "take the price" sort of thing? I'm pretty sure you ask when you're handing over the slip? I'm used to betting online and have only set foot in a bookies a few times, and that's been like 5 minutes before the race so I just usually go off the SP (it's worked in my favour 90% of the time). Tomorrow I'm probably out all day and with only cash in hand I'll be off to the bookmakers earlyish. I dislike bookmakers shops as a rule as at my local one I always seem to get ID'd by the same bloody woman! I mean I look 18/19 anyway so I don't mind the actual fact of getting ID'd (and it's their job). I'd have just thought that the same bloody woman would remember on the fourth/fifth time:lol:lol. Especially as people who go in this bookmakers are 40+ Thanks for any advice. Lars

16:55 Goodwood. I almost choked when I saw the price of 14/1 on Inside Story. Yeah it's form has been quite poor (except LTO) but it's done quite well at this sort of distance and grade a bit further back. Seems to prefer the A/W but hasn't performed bad on the turf, LTO came third at a distance only 75yards further than this and it caught my eye with it's performance. Same weight as LTO and I think it could definitely go a bit better today in what only could be described as an incredibly open race. Am going to back this to win, even though in usual circumstances I'd probably back E/W, I need the points and have naff all to lose in the standings. 1pt WIN.
    Won at 10/1 :lol:eek
  7. Re: Redcar 25/5/09 15:55 Redcar Two selections from myself today, not very optimistic as it's a big field where a lot can happy, so a small investment today. First selection is Flipando. Unraced over this distance today (it seems) but has predominatly raced at two approx. distances. 7f and 1m. Definitely prefers the 1mile so could like it just a little bit further. LTO it stayed on at 1m1f so it could handle this distance. An overall good horse in my view, used to being involved in Grade 1 races and should be up there at the end. The other is the Fahey trained Unbreak My Heart. This seems to be a popular selection with some people but the market has not followed. Did not get a good run at all last time out at Epsom but still ran quite well, and the odds are incredibly appealing. Fahey is in form and any horse of his is a danger. This one has been on good form and is at a decent mark too. Flipando - 11/1 Bet365 - 0.5pt Win Unbreak My Heart - 14/1 Victor Chandler - 0.5pt Win

  8. Re: Goodwood 25/5/09 17:30 (original start time) Goodwood Streets Apart could prefer the bit longer distance and a slower pace and come here with a victory. Looked promising on the all-weather in Autumn last year but LTO struggled to assert himself. Could have just needed the run and this will be a more accurate show of it's ability. Decent jockey aboard and it could go close today. Odds are currently around 4/1 on Victor Chandler. 1pt Win.

  9. Re: Leicester 25/5/09 15:50 Leicester Reddy to Star has a great chance to get off the mark, improved immensely on it's first run (where it was slowly into it's stride but finished strongly) last time out at Warwick and think it could improve even further. Should be able to handle the slight drop in distance. Lots of unexposed sorts and Absolute Music is an obvious danger. Reddy to Star gets the nod though. 1pt win.

  11. Re: Best Bet Of The Day ~ Sunday 24th 15:35 Fontwell Was going to back Wardington Lad EW but the odds have shortened significantly and probably will more so as the day progresses. This one doesn't seem a bad horse, has gone up a few lbs in the weights since it's last two runs. LTO finished second behind a horse that has gone on to win more races, and the race before that it held on well to win. Wardington Lad will race fit and I think it can definitely get it's nose in front today. 1pt WIN.

  12. Re: Best bet of the day 23/05/09 16:35 Newmarket Brief Candle is my selection. Hasn't raced in 238 days but LTO was in a grade 1 race, where it was bumped and lost it's way, finishing eighth. Will have done better without that bump. Not sure if it "needs the run" but is definitely decent enough to be competitive in this field. Kirby on board whose a fairly able jockey. Hopefully the horse will be fit and the odds are fairly long so I'll be going EW. 0.5pt EW

  13. Re: Best Bet Of The Day - Friday Pontefract 19:00 I've backed this one before and it managed to place, so I'm going for Umverti. LTO ran very well for third over a couple of furlongs shorter. I think he will prefer this distance as he finished fifth last time he raced at 1m2f in a decent race. Is a fairly decent weight and a fairly good jockey on board, I think it has a chance today. The race is extremely open and I wouldn't' be surprised if this one got his neck in front. 1pt WIN

  14. Re: Best Bet Of The Day ~ Thursday 18:20 Sandown Park Although it ran 5 days ago and isn't very well fancied at all, I'm going for Admirable Duque. Started life as a 7f runner but seems to have preferred the trip and may still prefer an even further trip. Probably hasn't found it's optimum distance. Ran 5 days ago in a race a grade better but a furlong shorter, which it finished last. Before that race it did alright, winning and placing at a grade worse and it's last win it won the race comfortably. May have found it's distance now and standard. Is a decent EW bet and without a performance like it had 2 runs ago it is definitely possible. 0.5pt EW

  15. Re: BBOTD 20th May Worcester 20:20 Le Duc seems to be on fine form after an easy win at Newton Abbot. Perhaps not the horse he once was, still should be a cut above the rest here, and with a claiming jockey aboard (who rode LTO) seems a fairly decent weight. No real doubt about the ground if it stays "good". Distance could well be an issue, having predominantly run at 3miles plus, I feel though it has the quality to keep up with the pace and hold out. Hopefully the price won't shorten too much either. 1pt WIN

  16. Re: Towcester ~ Tuesday 19th May Saw something slightly interesting in the 20:00 at this meeting. Jeanry is unraced it seems, but its trainers recent record (out of 7 starts) has been 212330. The horses aren't sent out very often so he must be a small scale operation but a record such as that he must know what he's doing. All his winners/places have been at long odds, and I feel it could well be worth an EW punt. Yes it's a shot in the dark, but an interesting find nonetheless. Currently 66/1 at StanJames.

  17. Re: Best Bet Of The Day - Tues 19th May Towcester 19:00 Bit of a toss off bet today because my month has been going terribly, but I think Daarth could be good odds for a place or better today. Came 2nd LTO and his form is improving and seems to have found his distance and grade. LTO was a lot poorer race, that's granted but this horse looked quite strong on the same ground as today. Had a really good fourth place not so long ago at Newbury, and if it can recreate that form, especially with not much weight on his back, I feel it can definitely place. And at odds at currently 25/1, it's a good shout in my view. Towcester - 19:00 - Daarth - 0.5pt EW

  18. Re: What's your ambition (from a betting perspective)? Some good insight here, well apart from the bit of WWE style in ring "disagreement". I was expecting Stone Cold to come down in a beer truck and start giving out cans of some sh*te American lager! One question Billy if you don't mind me asking, is how much time per day you spend looking at the form etc? I mean I know you're a pro punter and all that, but that would imply 8-10 hours per day, would you say that being a pro punter was putting in less, the same (about) or a lot more hours than the average layman works 9am-5/6pm? I'm pretty sure that you've answered this one a lot, probably even in this thread :$. Cheers :ok

  19. Re: Best bet of the day 18th may 15:30 Bath Towy Boy, ridden by William Buick looks a good bet in this race. Seems to love the Bath track, has finished well up on most of his races here at around this distance and could be a threat. Doesn't seem to like firm ground and don't expect it to be like that tomorrow, so we could see a good run. Got the feeling that it has a big run in him and Buick has been on great form recently. Mr Forthright is a danger especially with virtually no weight on his back, as well as Kyllachy Storm. Towy Boy gets the nod. 0.5pt EW.
