  1. The points weren’t solely about getting on- the value has been smashed up the night before and limited amounts of cash have formed markets – so in theory Bookmakers should have more confidence to lay bets -but they don’t! Punters aren’t stupid when they feel any sort of value has been sucked out of the game they will walk away – The In running markets are still thriving on other sports, but punters still have issues with exchange charges if they are very successful.

This is ultimately leading to less liquidity (Especially on Horse Racing bread & butter markets) – many would argue it’s totally over saturated anyway and it should be culled. Less Racing means less jockeys –less trainers etc etc ! You could write a book on the problems within this industry and one of the biggest problems is they all pull in different directions, so the reality of getting anything sorted out for the people who are the life blood of sport seems extremely unlikely. .

  2.

It’s been coming for many years but the restrictions and majority of Bookmakers unwilling to lay any volume of money especially on Horse Racing is starting to  having a dramatic affect.

Let’s Name and shame the biggest culprits!

William Hill – won’t lay any reasonable bets

Betfred – Should be re-named Bet Restrictions

Ladbrokes – Become such a back number these days – restrictions galore

Stan James – does anyone ever even try with these clowns anymore?

Victor Chandler – pointless even asking for a price let alone a bet- pt –pt Bookmakers lay more than these lot!

Paddy Power – Pathetic cut prices willy nilly after restricting you to £25-£50

Skybet – All they want to take is mug £10!

With the options of getting any volume on now pretty much leading punters to the Betting Exchanges – it shouldn’t come as any shock when Bookmakers start merging or cutting back.

One of the major problems facing Horse Racing punters and owners is people like ‘Andy Holding’ tipping up horse at 4 .30 in the afternoon on oddschecker – I can’t see any benefit  to punters or owners  by smashing up markets before the previous days racing has finished.

An example a few weeks ago was ‘Miss Bossy Boots’ priced up at 14/1 by Bet 365 mid-afternoon – by 6.30 that evening the horse was available at 6/1! It went on to dead heat returning at 4/1.

Anyone with an ounce of sense know they can’t get any money overnight but more importantly they can’t take 4/1 about something that has been 14/1 on a regular basis and expect to make a profit long term.  I can only conclude the likes of Andy Holding is saving the Bookmakers billions a year and cost owners and punter fortunes – If the column was released after mid-day on the day of the racing it wouldn’t be so much of an issue . From an owners point of view who are the life blood of the game it’s very unhelpful!  It’s little wonder some horse run inconsistently when this type of thing is happening on a regular basis!

When the eventually the individuals responsible for running Horse Racing finally realise the game gone down the pan – It will become evident clear where the problem truly lies.

People are walking away from the game on a daily basis – it can only result in closure of courses and people losing their jobs long term. We are in age where Bookmakers generally won’t lay punters to lose £1000 on any market – unless they are serial losers. So what you are left with is a game that has become recreational serving £10 –£20 punters which can’t be beneficial for the wellbeing of the sport.

While the festivals will always be popular the day to day bread butter stuff has a dark future based on the Bookmakers stance in regards laying bets.

  3. Re: BBOTD Saturday 19th January Cant wait to see if Tony Newcombe withdraws 'Spellmaker' now 'Valdaw' been smashed up - the booking of William Carson suggests hes a 1/33 shot to be pulled out. Has anyone got any stats on how many horses with Carson booked are pulled out on the day. Prehaps the spread firms could open a book daily 'Sexton House' is the first of the day - of course they will use the weather as a genuine excuse which of course maybe true makes a change from the horse box breaking down.

  4. Re: Flat Racing; Saturday 10th June Lingfield 8.10 On the Feather looks over priced at 9/2 hes put two decent back to back runs together and the form is working out well, with Danvilla winning again. While hes still a maiden the stable is going well and this looks a good opotuinty to get off the mark with doubts avout the Favourite staying the trip and the likes of The Blue Dog who rarely pass wind hes worth a punt at the price.

  5. Re: Binocular out of Champion Hurdle If you owned a Horse with Paul Nicholls would you want him telling every Tom . Dick & Harry knowing what was really going on! Take what any trainer tells you with a pinch of salt, its all right wanting all information in the public domain but its not going to happen when it costs £15,000 a year minimum to keep these animals in training! The well being and targets for horses is what the general public need to know!

  6. Re: Binocular out of Champion Hurdle Correct me if i am wrong, but didn’t this bloke get done for some illegal substance in one of Queens horses? Wasn’t he warned off for a period which didn’t affect him at all, as the period was summer jumping were he has very few runners anyway! I suggest anyone else would have got slaughtered! Secondly wasn’t this the bloke who told the general public Binocular wasn’t well enough to race in the Champion Hurdle last year and sent him back to JP stud in Ireland? This is the bloke who looks at this horse every single day and no one would know more about his well being! Yet after his arrival in Ireland he’s deemed in fine fettle and his sent back to not only run but bolt up in the Champion Hurdle! How on earth can this bloke call himself a trainer! It’s a mockery! This latest nonsense stinks.

  7. Re: The Jockey Thread Having watched ATR today i did see the Cathy Gannon ride its a good job its wasn’t Jamie Spencer the emails would have been blocked for hours. To be fair the horse in question needs to be covered up and travels well and you will find that he will always need to be ridden with balls of steel. if the gap would have opened 100 yards out she would have been hailed a hero, such is life and a punters curse. For me much worst was Matthew Cosham ride on Captain Dimitrios ! Firstly he’s on the best horse in the race, he has ideal draw but allows two horses from the outside to shut him off and compromise his chance after 100yards. He has then complicated a simple job, yes you could call in inexperience but he’s had plenty of rides. He then turns into the straight and decides to challenge up the inside, the horse who had led had been under pressure for a while and hanging left , a more competent jockey would have waited and pull to the outside and made his challenge knowing the chances of a clear run to the line were enhanced. It’s always easy in hindsight but this was a huge misjudgement from the young jockey, he’s on a low grade animal that needs things to drop right at the best of times to force him up a gap with the whip waving in his face was always going to be a problem. It’s a minor miracle that the horse wasnt seriously injured and the jockey facing a trip to the hospital. The old unwritten rule you don’t go up the inside has cost Captain Dimotrios and hopefully his young pilot has learned a valuable lesson today. In the context of the Cathy Gannon ride this was much worst , while on another day both horses may have won but i fancy Frequency would have been ridden the same way , but i strongly suspect the latter would have been given a better ride full stop!

  8. Re: Victor C Can't see why bookmakers have not started an exchange themselves.:ok Very good point Ginge I would suggest it would be too big a risk, and is there room for another exchange? B----q have tried to get a share of the market but the truth is B----f are the daddy of exchanges. You are right on several points, the novelty will wear off at some point but the 'Modern' punters will always need a platform to trade from.

  9. Re: Glorious Goodwood (Day 4) - Friday 30th July

SUNRISE SAFARI 2.45 Goodwood. 0.5 points each way. Not been firing on all cylinders' date= but this big field could see him bring out his best, so with getting in off a mark of 84 again, I can see him sitting towards the rear and finishing very fast indeed. A massive price at around 90s on the exchanges, so had a bit of that, but for the purpose of the competition I'll take the 40/1 with Coral.
Interesting that Paul Hanagan (Stable Jockey) takes an outside ride on one for Ruth Carr, i would be very surprised if Sunrise Safari won, in fact i am very surprised Fahey hasnt insisted Hanagan rides his horse!
  10. You have to love Bookmakers , they have milked the game for years and ripped punters off and made hay in the good times. Now the industry has had a major shakeup and new blood has appeared in the form of the betting exchanges, bookmakers are squealing. The suggestion that the leading exchange should charge layers 10% to lay horses is absurd and clearly not going to happen secondly the exchange is not going to swallow the charge. The sponsorship this exchange puts into racing along with other sports is phenomenal, yes is raking it in but that’s because it was a fantastic idea and it’s been well managed. Because it’s a huge success’s feels it should be penalised, charging layers 10% will lead to no liquidity victor!

  11. Re: Sir Michael Stoute Out Of Form

wrong my friend and calm down a bit on the way you respond, you calling me a mug? of course it has to do the form of the yard, the pair were 8L clear of the remainder, clearly an animal which was better than all bar one of its rivals IF putting in a performance. Ryan rode it well and won by a short margin you refer to intellect etc, but you only seem to believe your opinion is the only one - a bit arrogant if you ask me
Not at all , there are some very educated views on here however there also some very ill informed.
  12. Re: Sir Michael Stoute Out Of Form No problem with any of the above Ginge Tipping up 28/1 win only is fine when the fav is odds on Each way ! any one whos knows anything about the game knows this is not going to get matched. I dont see any other respectable tipsters doing this, its bang out of order. Its been sugested that these are only small staking punters i would disagree Arbers & Traders are asking for lumps but struggling to get on because they know the price will crash. I have explained the ins and outs above its pretty simple you seem to missing the point.

  13. Re: Sir Michael Stoute Out Of Form It’s no good having an opinion if it’s a ***** opinion! Michael Stoute has a winner and the mugs start getting excited, if you had the intellect to read what has been written you may find the key. The horse last won because of certain circumstances it’s got nothing to do with the form of the yard! The Hugh Taylor debate is laughable everyone is entitled to their view or supposed to be. Let’s explain a few things Hugh works very hard spending long hours watching replays and trawling through the form book. Firstly if he thinks something is overpriced he’s not going to tell the world and not back it himself. An example Black Baccara was priced up at 16/1 and went off at 9/2 the potential to arb is huge, it is a fact that leading bookmakers are not laying large amounts on any of his selections due to the liability which is occurring daily. This invariable means very little money is being traded between 16/1 -6/1 this is Hugos Brucey Bonus it’s a licence to print money, Arbers and traders are latching on to make small gains which is the driving force behind it. What is disappointing with him his tipping against odds favourites when there odds on it really does leave a sour taste because ethical or achievable to claim the profits he’s doing is wrong. He has tried to proof to the secret betting club but they have refused there is several reasons for this mainly to do with what’s written above. Why would he want to proof to the secret betting club? There’s little doubt he could go on his own and make a living form it but while ATR are constantly advertising his work he has the perfect platform and free advertising. If he would just cut out the snide bets no one would have a problem with him!

  14. Re: Sir Michael Stoute Out Of Form I am not sure this is a true reflection.

Several reasons can be given for horse well beaten lately which i don’t want to go into. You could argue Strawberrydaiquri went backwards from Royal Ascot but she’s about the only one. The likes of Kingsgate Native & Spanish Moon are laws unto themselves, Effervesce isn’t genuine and Apace (ridiculous price anyway) may well be a better horse back on turf. If you look at the likes of Desert Myth , Give your Verdict ( Beaten by a Cecil colt who is expected to go onto better things) and two young horses Pickwick & Mutanaker they all ran well.

It’s a simple case of not getting the horses in the right races and the ones that have run not being well handicapped.

What is a lot more significant Sir Michael has a top class apprentice jockey at his disposal in Beuzelin he has allowed him to gain valuable experience by taking outside rides and ridden for 38 different trainers this season. He’s ridden two winners for Sir Michael of the 4 winners this season. It will be highly significant if he uses on in any high profile Handicap Races between now and the end of the season.

  15. Re: Hugo Taylor I cant belive how thick you lot are! There isnt a firm in the world that will lay e/w in a maiden when the fav is odds on to any volume of money. Hence why most will allow 3 pt win 1 pt place! To claim profit which isnt there is a joke, to even suggest this type of staking in races with favs odds on isnt done by anyone else. Why does HUGO keep suggesting bets like these which quite clearly arent obtainable????????????? There is a reason but you clearly cant see it!

  16. Re: Hugo Taylor The 28/1 e/w is NOT there full stop . Yes you can have 3 pt win and 1pt place which reduces the profit what on earth are you clowns taking on! The man is a joke claiming profit that isnt there! No one is saying hes poor and yes he provides a free service for the arbers but why? Have you worked it out yet?
