  1. I know the season is 6 weeks away but I am of course itching for it to start. The quality of signings is great gain and it promises to be the strongest season yet. I have a few season bets already will post more as the start becomes closer and trial form and results are more forthcoming! I will be betting 20 Units total for Season bets and have used 8 Units so far. A LEAGUE 2013/2014 SEASON TOP GOALSCORER Besart Berisha (Brisbane Roar) Top Goalscorer 2 Units Each Way $7 @ Sportsbet After taking the Golden Boot in his inaugural A League season, Berisha came in equal third last season in the goalscoring with 14 goals (5 away from Mcbreen of Mariners). It was no coincidence that Brisbane Roar had a very mediocre season with a mid table finish after two years of being champions. Under new coach Mulvey, it took a while for the team to gel. Mulvey also experimented with Berisha in a wing position for a few games and it was clear that Berisha was dropping back a lot more to try and help the midfield which was a lot weaker than the previous seasons. He is favourite for top goalscorer again this season. This is perhaps due to the strong signings made by Brisbane in the off season. Matt McKay (Socceroos International and Brisbane captain in first Championship season) and Liam Miller have been signed to join Broich (Johnny Warren medalist and best player in A League) and Luke Brattan who has looked extremely impressive at the back end of last season. Trial games so far have shown the midfield dominating and supplying the balls to Berisha which he needs to score goals which he was often deprived of last season. Berisha also still has the advantage that he doesn’t have much competition for the striker spot although Mulvey is still looking at another striker before the season begins to ensure Berisha doesn’t become complacent and provide more depth. Barring injury, I cannot see how Berisha would not at a minimum make top 4 goalscorers for the season and believe he deserves favouritism for the golden boot. Mitchell Duke (Central Coast Mariners) Top Goalscorer 1 Unit Each Way $34 (4 places ¼ odds) @ Sportsbet I see Duke as a smokey for this market based on his breakout form last season. The 22 year old had some great games last season and was given a chance to represent the Socceroos since last season by Holger Oseik. He scored 7 goals last season from 731 minutes of game time. This equates to 0.86 goals per 90 minutes or nearly a goal per game. If Daniel McBreen (golden boot last season) picks up an injury or loses form throughout this season it bodes well for Duke to see what he can do with more game time and potentially being given penalty duties, something the Mariners struggled with last time round with no players confident with penalty shots despite being champions. Last season Mcbreen scored 19 goals in 2360 minutes of game time. 4 of these were penalties. This equates to 0.72 goals per 90 minutes. I have taken these odds early and on other sites have looked at he was between $11 and $15. WOODEN SPOON Wellington Phoenix Wooden Spoon 2 Units $3.75 @ Sportsbet Although you never know what’s going to happen, this season to me looks down to two teams for the spoon. The majority of teams have really strengthened and bolstered their squads this season. While I can’t see Newcastle Jets making the top 6 this season, their squad still looks capable of winning games and I liked some of what I saw in them last season. Hopefully for them, Nathan Burns return to Australia proves fruitful in netting them some extra goals and providing another means of attack rather than relying on Heskey who doesn’t impress me much (certainly not worthy of marquee imo). Their defence is the most worrying for me and I rate it the worst defence in the league. My prediction for Newcastle is 9th. Poor old Wellington always seem to come up in wooden spoon talk in the last few seasons. I can’t see any reason not to back them at this stage. They will be going in a completely new direction under coach Ernie Merrick and have made some potentially good signings in Hernandez, Caira, Cunningham and Thompson. When compared to signings of other clubs though, these don’t fill me with confidence that they are enough to propel Phoenix above their last place finish of last season. The same aging core of the team is still there and while they always put in a strong performance at home, away wins are not something Wellington seem able to achieve. Last season they won 5 drew 4 lost 5 games at home. Aways games however, won 2 drew 2 and LOST 9 away. This is not a new trend for Wellington since the A League began nearly a decade ago and it won’t change again this season.

  2. Re: Norwich City v Everton - Sat 17th August

mate, i respect your point of view... in may 2014 i´ll be here to discuss about wolfswinkel performance! and by that time, dont come to me saying that the premier league is the best league in the world, bla bla bla... i repeat: wolfswinkel is an awful player...
No problem. I just wasn't happy with Jase saying "Easy to say now mate". Nowhere did I have a go at you or criticise your opinion. I had read it earlier and thought it was a little bit much of a spray for a player with such goal scoring stats and the amount of $ that have been spent on him by Norwich. I have never seen the guy play before. If somebody has said he was an average player and probably wont succeed in the premier league I would have not thought anything of it.
  3. Re: Norwich City v Everton - Sat 17th August

Easy to say that now mate ..... He was just giving his views based on having seen him play firsthand I presume.... :ok
I'm not criticising anybody for giving their opinion. I had looked into this players stats and read up on him last week so the information he gave above seemed way off the mark. A couple of goals from the penalty spot against poor teams? Barely knows how to run? Come on... At his last two clubs four seasons he has scored 28 goals in 55 appearances and 26 goals in 64 appearances. A player that doesnt shoot, weak in the air, has no strength and can hardly run cannot produce those results...which is why I stated the comment was a bit over the top/exaggerated.
  4. Re: Norwich City v Everton - Sat 17th August

Van Wolfswinkel profilic goalscorer and big signing???? Mate, you are so wrong. For all you guys relying on the dutch capacity to score goals, i must advise you...he will most probably score none. Im from Portugal, the guy was mocked for two seasons playing for Sporting. He score a couple of goals most of them against poor teams some from the penalty spot. The guy doesn´t shoot, is weak in the air, he has no strength, he barely knows how to run. He was one the worst strikers that played in Portugal in the last years.
Over the top perhaps? First goal already scored.
  5. Re: Worst Australian side of the history?

Over here in Australia we have a very competitive sporting landscape. Football is really the 4th most popular code of Football over here, ranking behind Rugby Union, Rugby League and AFL. Wallaby Berrick Barnes was a very good wicketkeeper but choose footy over cricket, and there are probably many other undocumented examples of talented youngsters choosing one of the footy codes over cricket, which until recently didn't offer the same riches as footy (25 centrally contracted players vs infinitely more contracts in 16 team competitions). T20 has obviously changed a lot of that, but frankly I don't really think that is very beneficial to the longer form of the game.
Just to clarify Crouch, presumably you mean Football is the 4th most popular code in terms of average attendances! Of course we know the world game has the highest participation rate in Australia ahead of the other three codes. I tend not to look much into the Rugby Union crowds either as they only play about 7 home games? ... and there are 5 teams in Australia.
  6. Re: Club Friendlies 2013 Melbourne Victory V Liverpool @ MCG Liverpool HT/FT $1.83 @ Sportsbet 10 UNITS Liverpool 6-0 $61 @ Sportsbet 0.5 UNITS Liverpool 7-0 $151 @ Sportsbet 0.5 UNITS Obviously it has been a big week in Australia with Man Utd beating the A League All Stars 5-1 on saturday night and now Liverpool being hosted by Melbourne Victory in front of 95,000 people on Wednesday night. Liverpool has brought their full strength squad for the tour and already had good result against Indonesia. I really hope it won't be a blowout for the A League's reputation but it's not ideal timing for Melbourne Victory. Archie Thompson, MarkMilligan, Adama Traore and Mitch Nichols all unavailable for Melbourne and taking out the best 4 players from an A League side weakens the teams immensely. The coach has also been off for over a week coaching the All Stars side and they will no doubt play his out from the back game and try and go for goals so it should be an open game. Only problem for Melbourne is I cant see how their weak attack is going to score and their defence on paper does not look anywhere likely to hold out Liverpool for very long.

  7. Re: Tour De France

With the Pyrenees waiting in the weekend the GC riders may welcome an easy day in the saddle so we may get another sprint finish maybe, minus Cavendish and Kittel which means the only one of the real sprinters that has not won a stage is that man Sagan. Tomorrows climbs should not faze Sagan so i think he is the man with Boassen Hagan. 2 Pts Win Sagan @ 3.0 0.5 ew boassen Hagan @ 21.0
Great analysis was a very entertaining stage to watch!
  8. Re: Australian A League Season 2011/2012 Apologies all haven't been on for a while too busy with work over the Christmas period!!! Great day super wednesday am catching the last 3 games. I haven't had a good in depth look at the teams for today's games but from watching the past few weeks with no bets I fancy a small flutter for the last 2 games. Central Coast v Melbourne Victory Going on full season form obviously Mariners should be a shoe in for this game. However the few games that Melbourne have shown up they have been brilliant this season and do have the potential. Mehmet Durakovic is basically at the point of win or be sacked so he will be going all out for a win tonight. Just read also they will be starting with 3 at the back instead of 4 defenders. Mariners were held to a bore draw 0-0 last week by Gold Coast so I think the odds are over for Melbourne win tonight. I think a draw is not much of a possibility....either Mariners win comfortably or Melbourne grab the win. Also Matt Simon's farewell to make things interesting, I'm sure he will want to go out on a scoring note. 2 Units Melbourne Victory Win $4.80 @ Sportsbet 1 Unit Melbourne Victory HT/FT Double $8.50 @ Sportsbet 2 Units Over 2.5 Goals $1.71 @ Sportsbet Perth Glory v Brisbane Roar Brisbane have finally snapped the 5 game losing streak with a good win last weekend over Melbourne. Perth have continued to play some ordinary football and pressure is also mounting on their coach Ferguson. Brisbane really are Perth's bogey team and I can see that continuing tonight. Out of 21 games played since the league started, Brisbane have won 12, drawn 6 and Perth have only won 3 games against the Roar. Pencil Berisha down for a goal tonight he has been immense even during the losing streak and is well due for a good tap in! 3 Units Brisbane Roar Win $1.95 @ Sportsbet

  9. Re: Australian A League Season 2011/2012 One of those days for me. How Mariners and Perth couldn't find the back of the net is beyond me. Absolute domination but no dice. Well in to Melbourne Heart what a brilliant performance and awesome to watch! Brisbane Roar v Wellington Phoenix 3 Units Roar HT/FT double $1.83 @ bet365 One game left and I'm going to get back on Brisbane this week. Odds on straight win are far too short so let's take the HT/FT double again. The only thing against us this week is Nichols out on International duty and he has been a spearhead so far this season in creating goals. Nakajima Farran takes his spot and he has shown some promise so far. Wellington are still in strife with putting together a decent side and away from home I don't give them any chance for a result, especially with Ifill still out. Brisbane have scored in the first half in every game so far this season except the first round 1-0 win against the Mariners which took till the 72nd minute. I can't really find any reason Brisbane won't put a few past Wellington! GL.

  10. Re: Australian A League Season 2011/2012 Well done to those on Adelaide! I tipped Adelaide for the win but wasn't confident with any bets on them going on their lacklustre start to the season. What a treat we are in for today 3 games in a row!! My chances of watching all three are surely diminished once the partner gets home from work! :lol Central Coast v Melbourne Victory 2 Units Central Coast Win $2.20 @ Bet365 Central Coast after a slow start to the season are now finding some form. Melbourne has shown serious inconsistency so far this season and the constant jigging around of the team structure has had a negative impact on their results. Last week's defensive effort can't really be taken too much into account here as Victory must still chase the win given their lowly position on the ladder and won't park the bus in defence for a draw. Melbourne's team is seriously decimated with their 3rd keeper starting in this game plus kewell, hernandez, foschini all out through international duty or suspension. tip Mariners 2-1 Melbourne Heart v Newcastle Jets 2 Units Newcastle Jets Win $2.87 @ Bet 365 This is Heart's do or die game for the season. Being the only team to not put a win on the board this season, they are getting extremely desperate. Newcastle on the other hand have come out like nobody expected and got themselves to second on the table behind champions Brisbane Roar. They've been playing some really good football and aren't having the troubles in the scoring department that many thought they would. With Griffiths, Brockie and now Jeffers in the squad I'm sure there are some goals to be had against the bottom side! At these odds I'm going to go with form and pick the away win. tip Newcastle 2-1 Perth Glory v Sydney FC 1 Unit Draw $3.25 @ Sportingbet A really interesting match here. Perth just had their terrible away trip which they dropped 2 games while Sydney have starting stringing some points together. Perth are a different team at home and should forget about the terrible road trip. Sydney while not always playing the best seem to be doing something right to get the points so far this season, only dropping the game to Brisbane Roar, in which they played fairly well. They lose Brett Emerton for International duty in this game however Antonis will be his replacement, a speedy youngster who has really impressed me. While I'm sure both teams will be going for the win, Sydney probably won't be disapointed if they take a point away while Perth won't want to drop this game in front of an unforgiving local crowd. Tip 1-1.

  11. Re: Australian A League Season 2011/2012

Newcastle :clap Brisbane :gimme:puke Entertaining set of games last night that's for sure! I'm still trying to piece together how Brisbane couldn't breach 9 men for so long. Was a really poor performance by Brisbane well in to those who left the game alone! Today, two sides teetering on the top 6. Each have managed one win two draws and a loss in their opening games. Gold Coast have definitely punched above their weight and were even decent in their 3 -0 defeat against Brisbane. I really like their new striker Rigters he's not afriad to pull the trigger when in position! While I think Sydney deserve the favouritism here I think GC are in with a good shot. In 6 games since the Gold Coast came into the league, they have beaten Sydney 4 times with 1 draw and only lost once. So essentially they are a bit of a bogey side for Sydney. I'm going to take a few small stakes chances this game. 0.5 Units Gold Coast United HT/FT Double $7.50 @ Sportsbet 0.5 Units Maceo Rigters First Goal Scorer $7 @ Sportsbet
:eyes 2 - 0 up and blow it through some poor defence. some crazy games have been played this weekend thats for sure!! Record after Rd 5 Bet 32 Units Returned 32.58 Units ROI 1.8%
  12. Re: Australian A League Season 2011/2012

Newcastle Jets v Perth Glory 2 Units Newcastle Win $2.50 @ Bet365 Perth had a good start to the season but were brought back to earth with a defeat against the Mariners. Newcastle have had a mixed start to the season with some great play at times and some poor play also. They don't seem to have had too many problems scoring goals as some thought they would and this week they welcome back Jeffers who brings extra potency into the attack. The only thing that will benefit Perth is they stayed on the East Coast this week rather than travelling back to Perth. I still think the Jets will rise for their home crowd for this game and take the points. Tip Newcastle 2 Perth 0 Melbourne Victory v Brisbane Roar 2 Units Brisbane Win $2.10 @ Ladbrokes Everyone is waiting for the Roar juggernaught to end and this week might just be the time for it to happen. Melbourne Victory have always been Brisbane's bogey side regardless of form and in front of a massive home crowd full of expectation there is a possibility Melbourne will finally step up after a very ordinary start to the season. All of this aside, Brisbane as everyone knows are a notch above every other team and these kind of odds I just can't refuse for Brisbane to make it 5 wins in a row to open the season.
