  1. Re: Australian Open 2009 - bets, predictions, reasoning It was pretty windy during the Gasquet Junquera match and it helped make the match a bit closer. I don't think Gasquet performed particularly poorly and personally I wouldn't bet against him having a comfortable win over Istomin. I agree with the Razzano pick and have taken Baltacha +5.5 games @ 2.00 and +1.5 sets @ 2.62 on PP. I've also had a small go at Bremond @ 3.00 as even though Vaidisova is not right in the head, she still had to be despatched and the French lady did it convincingly, while Bondarenko endured an unseemly struggle against some 16 y/o. I don't ever like backing either of them as faves so the value is with Bremond. I got Lisicki @ 2.5 but that's been cut. She's a cracking young talent with some good form in the lead up who did well here last year, putting out Safina before being knocked out by Wozniacki. Stosur leads the H2H and will be buoyed by home support but makes too many errors and just hasn't done enough to justify the fave tag.

  2. Re: Australian Open 18th Jan - 1st Feb

3-1 :@:@. Sloppy 2nd set. Maybe the heat is affecting him particularly badly I dunno' date=' he claimed it was making him dizzy in Auckland, but Robredo put in a no nonsense performance against Reynolds and should roll over him. [/quote'] I thought I was overstating Troicki's poor performance against Martin due to being a bit peeved at losing my first AO bet (and it being a crap one anyhow) so I stayed away but Tommy really battered him good and proper didn't he. I'm going to have a go at Dokic, small interest bet only. The crowd really helped Erakovic a lot earlier so I have a feeling Chakvetadze will find the atmosphere exceptionally difficult to cope with if things get tight.
  3. Re: Australian Open 18th Jan - 1st Feb

Troicki 3-0 @ 2.00 on boylesports. A talented young Serb up against claycourter Martin. Troicki lost to Rafa last year (7-6, 7-5, 6-1) in the first round while Martin didn't make it through qualies last year (lost to some 1000+ ranked guy) and was beaten 6-0,6-0.6-1 by Murray here two years ago. I don't think the score will be that emphatic but I can't see Martin getting much off Troicki's serve on this surface. The Serb has 37 aces from 39 service games so far this year so if he serves well, he should get plenty of free points.

Well done on the Santoro pick Mr.I. Outstanding. I have two or three leans (Lisicki, Oudin 2-0) tonight, but nothing stands out really.

  5. Re: ATP Auckland/Sydney and WTA Hobart/Sydney 11th - 17th Jan

Verdasco 2-0 @ 2.75 on PP. Totally meaningless match for both but Gonzalez has a tough AO 1st round match with Hewitt' date= potentially a 5 setter so I'd expect him to think about conserving as much energy as possible here. He was poor against Wawrinka yesterday, Verdasco is by far the better player in any case, and I don't think either will be particularly up for a 3 setter at this stage, so I see a pretty comfortable win for Mr.Ivanovic. 6-3 6-2 or something like that. Probably best avoided but I just like those odds.
Verdasco 6-4 6-3. :D Good work there Crouch Potato. :clap Nalby ballsed up that 2nd set good and proper.

Don't leave it too long to get on Dementieva to beat Williams' date=' guys. She's really the favourite over Serena IMO.[/quote'] I got Dementieva @ 2.62 on paddypower as soon as it came out. (What were they up to?) It's as low as 2.1 in some places now. Whopping value even if she loses. The breakfest with Radwanska did not inspire confidence but I think she'll cope with the tough conditions better, as she did at the olympics.
  8. Re: ATP Auckland/Sydney and WTA Hobart/Sydney 11th - 17th Jan

Stepanek retired' date=' but I don't know if the stakes will be returned for those who bet on +4, or they will win ? My triplet ( Stepanek, Gicquel, Mathieu ) actually made the way forward, I've got the win. I think Stepanek was just too tired here.[/quote'] I'm glad that his retirement saved your treble man. He's off to join Nicole now. ;) What bookie did you use for the handicap? I made a slight error with my Pironkova post. Only 2/3 H2H wins were straight sets. 2007 ISTANBUL CLAY (O) R32 T. PIRONKOVA 6-4 2-6 6-2 2008 AUS OPEN HARD (O) R128 T. PIRONKOVA 6-1 6-1 2008 ISTANBUL CLAY (O) Q T. PIRONKOVA 7-6(4) 7-6(2)

Isn't it always the way keliot :spank! You know you made it a cert :notworthy. :lol
Tell me about it. Might as well have a go at something then just before it starts. Pironkova 2-0 @ 2.4 on boylesports. This girl has bags of talent and should follow up her comprehensive victory over Schnyder by overwhelming Govortsova. She defeated Venus at the 2006 AO, and last year she beat Ivanovic in Rome and led Henin by a set and a break in Antwerp but ended up losing. The H2H with Govortsova is 3-0, all straight sets including 6-1 6-1 at the AO last year. I can't make any sort of case for Olga here.
  10. Re: ATP Auckland/Sydney and WTA Hobart/Sydney 11th - 17th Jan

Ashtee' date=' Keliot I know Stepanek show inconsistency, but look at Chardy he's completely disappoiting. We expect something from him but he lose from Petshner... Stepanek is more experienced+in-form+better player. I see no way Chardy to win here. We will see though.[/quote'] You're probably right, I was thinking of a Chardy set handicap but I've done nothing there. Good luck with it anyhow.
  11. Re: ATP Auckland/Sydney and WTA Hobart/Sydney 11th - 17th Jan

And a triplet Stepanek 1.25, Mathieu 1.44, Gicquel 1.50 Good luck for all !
I have a funny feeling about Stepanek. He's coming from winning a tournament where he played a few 3 setters and put in some intense performances. I know it's the start of the season and he should have a full tank but the price just seems a bit short and we're probably due to see a few upsets this close to the AO. Chardy had some fairly competitive matches with Tipsarevic, Robredo, Ancic and Andreev towards the end of last year so a result of some sort here is maybe not as unlikely as the price suggests. Nothing really stands out for me tonight anyhow. I thought Hrbaty's price looked a bit fat but like Hopman cup team mate Cibulkova last night, he could be seriously tired from matches and travel.
  12. Re: ATP Brisbane/Chennai/Doha & WTA Auckland/Brisbane/Hong Kong & Hopman Cup 5th-11th

It's a pity you are unlucky' date=' because Moresmo retired. Bartoli showed very good groundtrokes today simply it was one-sided. I'm very angry because of this retirement cause I bet too. :@[/quote'] Yeah, I can't blame Mauresmo for retiring but it would've been a heck of a beating. Bartoli hit some superb winners and her defence was excellent. She seems to have worked on her serve too. I like Azarenka a lot but Bartoli could be a decent value pick there.
  13. Re: ATP Brisbane/Chennai/Doha & WTA Auckland/Brisbane/Hong Kong & Hopman Cup 5th-11th

first of all' date=' i would like to thank all nice people here they contribute, especially the "old" guys like mr intensity and radved...[/quote'] Yeah me too. Belated happy new year everyone. :ok I took Bartoli @ 2.25 on PP and it's been snipped to 2.1 during the day. The prices are the wrong way round imo. Bartoli isn't seeded higher for nothing. Mauresmo was poor against Dokic (177) and Coin (95) while Ivanovic simply gifted her the last match with another well below par performance. Bartoli has had very little difficulty so far and appears to have lost some weight over the break which indicates hard work and a good fitness level. Mauresmo leads the H2H 4-0 but they're all from when she was at her best.
  14. Re: ATP Brisbane/Chennai/Doha & WTA Auckland/Brisbane/Hong Kong & Hopman Cup 5th-11th

I'll agree with that although not sure if I'll put it up as a selection. I watched all of her first round match against Danillidou and despite being tight I thought she was hitting well.
It's probably best avoided. There'll be plenty of clearer opportunities. Verdasco, Hanescu and Nishikori were terrific picks cheers.
  15. Re: ATP Brisbane/Chennai/Doha & WTA Auckland/Brisbane/Hong Kong & Hopman Cup 5th-11th

Did anyone have something more on tennis? I'd like to see some pick I can place a bet on. Maybe I'll wait for Nishikoris next match, place a bet on him depending on who he face.
I like Rezai in Auckland and might do something there. She's 2.00 on boylesports, 1.8 elsewhere. Gallovits was quite poor for most of last year, but got a surprising win over Garrigues. Rezai was beaten in the final at this tourney last year after getting past some decent opposition so she's my lean.
  16. Re: ATP Brisbane/Chennai/Doha & WTA Auckland/Brisbane/Hong Kong & Hopman Cup 5th-11th

The dogs are doing well it seems. Coin looks like a possibility today. She beat an out of sorts Ivanovic last year and I think she could at least take set off Mauresmo who's been on the slide and struggled against 177 ranked Dokic.
5-7 6-2 7-6 to Mauresmo. Apologies for not including odds etc there. I split a very modest 1 unit stake between Coin win @ 4.5 and Mauresmo 2-1 @ 4.2 on boylesports. Unless things look like changing dramatically, I am going to oppose Mauresmo and Hantuchova a good deal this year while the value is there. They seem to be in decline. Remember Mauresmo talking about retiring last year. I don't think a former champion like her will enjoy a year of tight scraps with the likes of Coin and Dokic.
  17. Re: Australia » Hyundai A League ( 2-6 Jan.´09 ) Maybe bear in mind that Melbourne's pitch is in a poor state since it was used for a bloody big new years eve party. Also I think that like many top of the table games this could be pretty tight. If Adelaide take the lead, they're good enough defensively to hold it, sit back in numbers and look for counters. Tricky one, so I'll do something inplay.

  18. Re: ATP Brisbane/Chennai/Doha & WTA Auckland/Brisbane/Hong Kong & Hopman Cup 5th-11th

Djokovic v. Gulbis pick Gulbis @4.5 Heavy price for Gulbis win,i'm taking it:hope This surely will not be walkover for Djokovic,i expect very hard match(three setter maybe)! Djole is focused on Melbourne i think,(but he is pro)where he has to defend his GS title from last year!pressure on him is already big, especialy from the media( is he pro enough to cope with it?). On the other side Gulbis, great server who has nothing to lose in this clash. His mental capacity was on full display several times last season against Nadal and Djokovic.I think he is well capable of making an upset here Go Ernest..:hope
Nice one. Gulbis was impressive throughout. Anytime I backed him last year, he'd get a cracking start then collapse spectacularly. Djokovic doesn't look very well prepared mentally. The dogs are doing well it seems. Coin looks like a possibility today. She beat an out of sorts Ivanovic last year and I think she could at least take set off Mauresmo who's been on the slide and struggled against 177 ranked Dokic.
  19. Re: ATP Brisbane/Chennai/Doha & WTA Auckland/Brisbane/Hong Kong & Hopman Cup 5th-11th

C ROCHUS @ 2.11 Pinnacle. The Rochus lads have done OK at Doha down the years, and I fancy Christophe for this one. He did well to get his ranking back up last year and really falling away and should some into this season with a bit of confidence. Stakovsky is very inconsistant, and in possibly windy conditions in Doha it should suit Rochus. Rochus is also higher ranked by 23 places so why is he the dog?
I noticed that Boylesports don't have this match listed. I had a heck of a time getting them to pay out on the Darcis v Rochus match in october. When I contacted them they said it was under investigation. They paid up after a few days but left the bet status as open on my account statement, very unusual. No bet for me, but I'm going to see how the odds go. Rochus to win from a set down maybe heh.
