  1. A couple of selections that should be bang thereabouts at reasonable prices.

4.05 Chester – Highland Pass – Ran creditably in better class of race last season, could be hard to beat at a good price if fully tuned up for this.

6.05 Ascot – Angel of The South Ran well to finish 2nd on debut in what’s turning out to be a very good race. This will be tougher but looks set to be bang there at a good price.

  2. Facinating to see if Cliffs of Moher is the real deal. The bottom line is that as impressive as he was when winning last season, he didn't beat much and it might just have flattered him. I'm still on ante-post for the Derby however and a good run today will be a good guide to see if he is really up to that class.

  3. Who doesn't love Saturday's? :cow

Two Each way plays and an EW double:

1.10 Newbury - Alfawaris(EW) - Frankel colt for Owen Burrows, out of a mare by Pentre Celebre. Obvious claims on debut.

1.25 Ayr - Third Order(EW) - Progressive for Karl Burke, good speed figures and has to be involved in what is a competitive Nursery.

    Other selections for the day:

1.35 Newmarket - Sobetsu - Form working out really well from debut run, will improve.

2.00 Ayr - Bletchley - Class of the race and should make it count here.

5.20 Catterick - Strong Force - Godolphin debutant for Saeed Bin Saroor in a weakish maiden. Sea The Stars Gelding.

5.05 Newbury - Crystal Ocean - Stoute trained, well bred newcomer with big entries. Newmarket spies giving positive vibes.

7.40 Wolverhampton - Pathway to Freedom - Nicely bred colt and Charlie Appleby knows how to ready one for Godolphin.

  4. 2.45 Yarmouth - Al Reeh - Nice debut for Marco Botti, looks a likely type to follow up.

3.00 Listowel - Burning Sword - Ran well on debut for Jim Bolger and if showing normal improvement will take all the beating.

7.50 Chelmsford - Spring of Hope - Simon Crisford trained gelding. A weak maiden and trainer can ready a newcomer.

  5. A couple at Beverley and a couple of Frankel colts trained by Roger Charlton that might be future superstars.

Beverley 3.00 - Getgo - Clear form pick and still improving

Beverley 5.10 - Sword Exceed - Switch back to 5f a positive and should have enough speed to take this.

Sandown 2.40 - Atty Perse - Frankel Colt making debut with some big entries.

Sandown 3.15 - Zefferino (Nap) - Frankel colt. Made an eye catching debut when finishing 2nd and looks set to be a bit special.

  6. 3.25 Listowel – Latchet – Weak maiden, in which this Jim Bolger trained 2 year old can make a winning debut.

2.30 Thirsk – Free at last – Fair debut and can improve to take this weak maiden.

3.00 Thirsk – Lucky Mistake (Nap) – Clear form pick and should take this.

4.50 Yarmouth – Port Isaac – Good debut last time out, should be able to take this.

  7. 4 selections on the all weather today.

3.10 Kempton – Dubai Dunes – Represents Godolphin and looks a likely type on debut. Vibes from gallops is positive.

4.15 Kempton – Musaanada – Haggas trained, expensive two year old that could be anything for this in form yard. Nothing much to fear from the rest of the field so a chance is taken on this beautifully bred filly.

5.25 Wolverhampton – Harbour Lighting – If taking to the all weather looks a big player in this.

6.55 Wolverhampton – Confident Kid – Trainer has a fine record at the track and the horse has the form to take this maiden.

  8. Re: Goodwood 25/5/09 3.10 Made To Ransom. - Entered the noteboook after a tidy win in a Newmarket Maiden 3 weeks ago. Still showed signs of inexperience that day and any amount of improvement is still possible. The horse clearly had problems in 2008 and has since been gelded, but his debut 3rd to the classy 'Twice Over' reads well, and clearly John Gosden has deemed it worthwhile persevering. This represents a big jump in class but clearly his stable deems him capable and that is enough for me. A nice each way proposition if you can still get the 4/1 about him.

  9. Re: Newmarket ~ Friday 19/09/08

'Meehan Machine' :ok Brian Meehan has some nice runners out today, and it should prove profitable to follow them. 15:05 Absent Pleasure (Win) Beat Gosden's very smart Huntdown LTO, that race is working out well and this group 1 entered colt should have too much for these rivals today. 15:40 Summers Target (Win) Done nothing wrong in defeat to date. easily the best form in the race. Ground trip and course to suit and Jamie Spencer booked. 16:50 Hula King (EW) will be seen to greater effect over todays mile and with a run under his belt. Showed speed on debut and was not knocked about by the jockey on that occasion, instructions will be to get more serious today. Also running at NEWBURY: 16:30Newbury Wave Aside (EW) made eyecatching late progress on it's debut (last to midfield) and with the typical improvement shown by this stables horses looks like being in the shake up this time. Dettori booked for the ride is another positive.
I was disappointed with Summers target who is becoming a bit frustrating to follow. Absent Pleasure should have won, I thought the draw bias did not help as all the action was on the other side and Jamie Spencer basically gave them all 4l head start by dropping him out the back (finished fast for 3rd). but Wave Aside saved the day - looks a nice prospect. :dude

  11. Re: Best Bet of the Day ~ 9th September 17:10 Lingfield - Girl Of Pangaea 1pt win. Ed Dunlop takes Three 2-yo's to Lingfield this afternoon. Two of them on the back of lengthy year long breaks (Izzibizzi and Girl of Pangaea). I rarely allow breaks to put me off, it is up to the trainer to deliver them fit to the racecourse, and I don't believe Dunlop would be running them without them being so. Both should win if fit, however of the two Girl of Pangaea looks the more solid option, she looked to have her debut at Kempton sewn up, but greeness let her down in the last few strides, clearly not straightforward, she nevertheless only has to run anything like in the likely quagmire to win. The booking of Dettori also catches the eye.

  12. Re: Best Bet of the Day - Mon 8th Sept Bath 14:40 'Bright Enough' - I don't see the 6lb rise stopping her follow up. Destroyed the field on the Kempton all weather LTO. The step up to a mile clearly helped that day, and has been quickly sent out again to follow up. I predict she will take the race to them again today and it will take a good one to pass her. 1 pt win

  13. Re: Leopardstown 7/9 17:05 Leopardstown Ebashan E.W. 'The professor' John Oxx trains this 2yo colt, who is a son of King's Best. apparently it's one that Oxx highlighted as a jouvenile with potential at recent stable tours. Oxx has not had the best run with his 2 year olds to date this season so far, but there are signs of then coming to hand, although testing conditions here may not be ideal.

  14. Re: Curragh ~ Saturday 24th I noticed Famous Name has been pulled out of the Guineas. I've heard a few good reports about this colt, and apparently he has really trained on and will be seen to best effect on gd-sft at around 1m 2f. Apparently he has turned into a bull of a colt, but his action is very rounded and will not be risked on anything firmer than good anymore. His defeat to Jupitor Pluvius last term was solely due to the 7f being inadequate, his poor performance previous to that against New Approach and Henry the Navigator was again due to a little inexperience on ground that again was too quick. His reappearence this season at Naas over a mile showed what he was all about. Although he beat nothing that day, the manner of the victory showed the kind of gear change and power the colt has now developed. Watch out for him over 1m + on ground with a bit of give.

  15. Re: Kempton 5/5/08 I agree 'Cross The Line' looks a nice each way bet. I'm concentrating on a couple of unraced individuals today however. Firstly in the 2.00 'Indian Art' related to smart sprinter Perryston view. Richard Hannon certainly knows how to ready a 2yo newcomer, and there are signs his juveniles are starting to come to hand (2 x 2nds and 1 x 1st from last 3 x 2yo runners). With clear positive noises coming from the stable, this looks one to keep on side. Secondly 'Visions of Johanna' in the 3.30. This$310,000 yearling is nicely bred, and should handle the surface no problem. Jeremy Noseda has had a terrifically good start to the flat campaign and his stable looks in good order. His only 2yo runner to date hacked up at Leicester in April. Ryan Moore is booked up top. APNN (All positives no negatives)

  16. Re: Kempton 03/02/08 13:50 Mambuzo Looks to have now fallen to a winning mark, and is better than most of the field today. Showed LTO at 6f that a return to 5f will suit (was 5 lengths clear halfway) and was only pegged back in the final furlong. 14:50 Parsons Punch Made quite a taking debut LTO and was staying on nicely without being knocked about and likely to improve with that valuable experience under the belt. Boy On A Swing looks the best of the debutants, and whilst the derby entry looks speculative, it may be worth an each way saver at decent odds. 15:20 Den's Gift Move back up to a mile will suit, Form looks best on offer, and still a touch unexposed. 15:50 Baharah with Den's gift likely to frank the form, this filly looks set for Dubai, and will sign off here confirming superiority over Capricorn Run 16:20 Bold Diva An open race, Vigano should go well again, and Challow Hills is an interesting runner for Barry Hills making her handicap debut on a lenient mark based on her first two runs. However Bold Diva catches my eye. Looked like she was crying out for this step up to 7f two runs ago at Wolverhampton, and was very unlucky in running LTO, and looks to have conditions in her favour today.

  17. Re: Lingfield - 16th Jan 14:20 Lingfield Banjo Bandit Won well LTO over what appeared to be an inadequate trip. This is quite a step up in trip, but looks like it will really suit and bring out the best in what appears to be a progressive sort, who could prove worth following on the all weather. Mark Johnston's Boomtown is the main danger, and a reverse forecast also looks a good option.

  18. Re: Best Bet Of The Day ~ Jan 1st 15:40 Southwell Only A Grand 1pt win Entered the note book after a 6l romp on 20th December at Southwell. Was not ridden prominently enough LTO, but still did well to finish close to to the winner Dado Mush who was completing a three timer. The pair finishd well clear of the remainder however, so it still represented a progression. Quite clearly now on an upward curve, a more positive ride from her amateur jock will see a victory (some 11/4 still about). Zabeel House clearly rates the main danger, but i'm not convinced he'll take to the track. Happy New Year to all :cheers
