  1. Re: Draw hi qlpol I absolutely agree with your view of the match. Disappointed with Belgium in the first half but they were OK in the second and Collina should have given you that penalty. But the fair result was a draw! I'm pretty happy with the way Bulgaria played because I expected them to create less chances. Pity we missed so many of them. Also happy with the way V. Dimitrov played, he will be a vital part of our midfield in the coming matches; both Martin and Stilian Petrov were OK, same goes for Kirilov and Berbatov. Stoyanov (the penalty guy), Hristov and Borimirov were disappointing as expected. Generally we are optimistic about qualifying for EURO 2004. We should beat Andorra and Estonia and we can get a result against Croatia. So please beat those Croatians and do us a big favour :) One more thing, I expected to see more Belgian fans at the stadium but there were only about 100 of them. And the funniest moment (not related to football) was when a speaker announced that next week a team of local politicians wiould play against a team of representatives of EU in Bulgaria - unanimous deafening "boo" from the crowd showed our "support" for local politicians.

  2. Bulgarian team No real news today from the Bulgarian camp, except that Todorov (Portsmouth) may be out of favour with the coach and will probably not start tomorrow. Also the other striker Berbatov left the training session earlier with a slight bruise but is expected to start against Belgium. Probable starting line-up: Zdravkov Petkov - Kirilov - Stoianov (or Zhelev) - Stankov Borimirov (Munchen 1860) Dimitrov (CSKA Sofia) Hristov (K'lautern) Stilian Petrov (Celtic) Berbatov (Leverkusen) Martin Petrov (Wolfsburg) The important thing about this formation is that the focus is on the midfield and not on attack. If Belgium chooses to pack deep in defence, it will be very hard for Bulgaria to score. This line-up is more suited to a counter-attack style. Also today's papers are trying to convince local readers that a draw would be useful and that the pressure is really on Belgium. So I expect a cautious play from Bulgaria tomorrow and they will not be too disappointed with a draw. It will be a close encounter and the odds for home win are too low. Draw is the best value and I will bet on it, though I will be cheering the home team on the stadium tomorrow.

  3. Re: Euro 2004 (07Jun): Bulgaria v BELGIUM - Away win Agree with swampster - draw and under look very good indeed. On the missing regulars: Kishishev - erm, not the most valuable of players; he left the team because he expected to be the captain of the team after Balakov left but... the players chose Stilian Petrov instead and Kishishev said "I'm too old to play and you do not value me enough so I quit". Bye bye to him! He will not be missed too much in Bulgaria and he will not leave a huge gap. Predrag Pazin - he is OK but he not shown anything special in the last year. I do not know much about his replacement Krastev as Bulgarian championship is not really worth following :( Well, we have a small gap here. Zoran Jankovic - a good player. He can play as a forward or attacking midfielder. We can find a replacement forward but not a midfielder. A major worry for Bulgaria. Milen Petkov - speaking of midfielders, he is one of the good Bulgarian playmakers. The midfield gap opens really wide! Balakov - the greatest Bulgarian player ever, the heart and soul of the team. He intended to part with international footy after this match but he picked a yellow card in the last qualifier against Estonia so he was forced to quit earlier. DISASTER!!! Chilikov - a striker who is really good with high balls and may be very useful. But we have enough forwards so he is not such a big loss. Another very small gap here. Six regulars out so far but I have more news for you - there's another missing regular: Georgi Peev (Dinamo Kiev) - a key midfield player, had an operation last week. Did I just mention "midfield" again? Summary: Bulgaria had 5 key midfielders - Balakov, Stilian Petrov, Peev, Petkov and Jankovic. 4 of them will miss the Belgium match. Do you think it will be an easy win for Bulgaria? I have very serious doubts about it. Draw or away win? Let's ask qlpol about the current situation in the Belgium squad and decide then! Btw, there will be no further news about the Bulgarian team today as they are training "behind closed doors". But a big press-confererence has been scheduled for Thursday and I will post my impressions here.

  4. Re: General comment Agree about Estonia - not only are they used to playing on a "not very well prepared pitch" but I believe they are a class above their opposition in terms of tactics. Estonia has a solid defence and they will not allow Andorra any space. Nor will they run away from hard challenges for the ball. That's why I think that Andorra will hardly score a goal here. Meanwhile Estonia may just pop in a goal or two on counter-attack.

  5. Re: Israel - Cyprus That lowers Israel's chances a bit but I still think that they will win by a single goal. However the odds doesn't look that attractive now :rolleyes While I'm on the low odds subject, let me mention that I don't like the odds for Bulgaria win today. The atmosphere before the match suggests a really friendly game with no particular obligations on either side to win. Both coaches will try fringe players and new tactical schemes. Albania proved to be a decent side against Russia and Ireland so they won't go down that easily. The match could easily go either way and the draw looks good with prices around 4. Some Albanian players have predicted 1:1 so I suspect that's what they are playing for today.

  6. Re: Israel - Cyprus I think Israel will win this one, one thing that worries me is where will the game be played? 7. Re: Georgia - Russia Many Russian punters are worried about their striking power and say Russia will not score more than 2 goals. The match will be very tense indeed, there are hints that a draw will be the only politically correct score that will keep Russians in the competition and at the same time will prevent turmoil in Georgia (there will be many ugly scenes if Georgia loses today). No bet for me. If I have to bet, with 1.75 for away win, I think I'll go for the draw. If you'd like to bet on away win, you can bet on 0:1, 1:2 (and maybe 0:2) to increase the odds a bit.

  8. haha oh, but I know it is a joke !!! don't you remember the last Serbia - Bulgaria game? A friendly in Serbia and Bulgaria won 2:1 :rollin well, things are not that bright really and we need Jankovic (badly) and Pazin. I know that Pazin is not good enough and Jankovic is not that good and they both didn't have any chance to play for Serbia on the other hand Serbia has better players but we have (or had with Bala) the better team :b btw I think Serbia is one of the most underperforming teams in the world with all that potential!

  9. Serbia Montenegro Probable staring lineup for Serbia M: Jevrich Mirkovich Sinisa Mihaylovich Krastaich Dimitrovich Lazetich Trobok Vukich Deian Stankovich Darko Kovachevich Savo Milosevich 9 members of the team play abroad with only Trobok and Vukich playing in the Serbian league. A total of 22 players are included in the squad with 9 of them playing in the Serbian league - they might be coming on in the second half.

  10. Squad The following players are included in the Bulgarian squad for the match: Probable starting line-up: Zdravkov (GK) Kishishev, Charlton Kirilov Pazhin I. Petkov Balakov, Stuttgart S. Petrov, Celtic Peev, Dinamo Kiev M. Petrov, Wolfsburg Berbatov, Leverkusen Jankovich Reserves: Stoyanov Zagorchich M. Petkov, Panathinaikos Borimirov, Munchen 1860 Todorov, Portsmouth Kolev Chilikov I think it is a pretty good squad, especially in midfield. An interesting fact is that three players are actually Serbs, so they know the Serbian team very well and they will be very motivated to show their class against their mates. There will be no limit for substitutions so one would expect to see all players in action. The stadium's capacity is 25 000 with 8500 seats -> 6000-7000 spectators expected today. The situation in Belgrade is very tense, paramilitary groups are being disarmed but in Krushevac (the venue of the match) it's business as usual. Weather is good too. It'll probably be an interesting and unpredictable match. I'm considering Bulgaria not to lose or over 2.5 goals here. Good luck!

  11. Bulgaria's form I know it is really hard to speak about any form in international matches and especially when considering friendlies. Anyway, Bulgaria's recent form is excellent, morale is high, everyone is looking forward to qualifying for Euro 2004. As far as I can remember last autumn Bulgaria won all matches for Euro 2004: 07.09.02 Belgium - Bulgaria 0:2 (tough match indeed) 12.10.02 Bulgaria - Croatia 2:0 (Croatia was outclassed) 16.10.02 Bulgaria - Andorra 2:1 (scrappy affair) Also earlier this year Bulgaria played a friendly against Hungary in Cyprus in poor weather and pitch (heavy rain) - the match was abandoned at HT, Bulgaria was leading 1:0, Hungary couldn't even manage a shot on goal. Hope it helps you decide on the Serbia - Bulgaria match. As a friendly it could go either way, I'd probably go for a draw.

  12. Many international friendlies today. Latvia v Lithuania 2.10/3.00/3.20 Cyprus v Russia 4.50/ 3.00/ 1.75 Bulgaria v Hungary 2.10/ 3.00/ 3.20 Croatia v Poland 1.87/ 3.10/ 3.75 Tunisia v Sweden 2.75/ 3.00/ 2.35 Israel v Armenia 1.35/ 4.25/ 6.75 Algeria v Belgium 2.85/ 3.00/ 2.30 Romania v Slovakia 1.85/ 3.10/ 3.85 Greece v Norway 2.25/ 3.10/ 2.85 Egypt v Denmark 2.90/ 3.00/ 2.25 Turkey v Ukraine 1.65/ 3.20/ 5.00 Senegal v Morocco 2.20/ 3.00/ 3.00 Netherlands v Argentina 2.25/ 3.00/ 2.90 Slovenia v Switzerland 2.15/ 3.00/ 3.10 France v Czech Republic 1.50/ 3.50/ 6.00 Wales v Bosnia 1.45/ 3.50/ 7.00 Italy v Portugal 1.90/ 2.90/ 4.00 Northern Ireland v Finland 2.90/ 3.00/ 2.25 England v Australia 1.50/ 3.50/ 6.00 Scotland v Ireland 2.60/ 3.00/ 2.55 Spain v Germany 1.90/ 3.15/ 3.75 I know friendlies are not the best option for betting but if anyone has significant info please post it here.

  13. Tough one Being Bulgarian I can tell you that the game could go easily either way. There is nothing much to separate the teams at the moment. Well, if Balakov was playing, then Bulgaria was going to be the favourite, definitely. But now I'm just not sure who is going to be our playmaker... and we are expected to take care of playmaking, because Croatia are going to sit back and wait for our defensive mistakes. Moreover, you saw what Croatia did to Italy - they can beat anyone on their day. A few months before the World Cup Bulgaria traveled to Croatia for a friendly - an easy home win was expected, as Bulgaria was in crisis and Croatia was preparing for the Cup. Final score? 0:0 - of course they had nothing to play for ;-) This time they have everything to play for! A few additional comments: It is true that Bulgaria tends to play better away against Western European teams - that's why many people here expected a result against Belgium (well, not a 2:0 win really). Unfortunately, I didn't see the match so I am a bit short of info on the current state of both teams. On the other hand, according to a posting by a Croatian punter here, their footy federation is a mess and the team is not particularly strong. Apart from Balakov, we are probably going to miss Georgi Ivanov - our main striker last year, now he is a bad form in Rennes (rock bottom in France). The match will also be used as an official opening of the new National Stadium - everything sold out already but probably too many fat-ass and quiet businessmen and politicians will be amongst the spectators. Anyway, I expect a great atmosphere (if weather is OK). X1 for me then. And if it is raining (and it probably will) - I'd go for 1:1. I'll try to get you some local info on Saturday if urgent work does not get in the way.
