  1. Re: I'm taking a break from Poker I'd always assumed that GaF had to be a collective of about 10 people. Surely no one person could play that much poker as well as making the contribution that GaF has to this forum? :unsure Enjoy your well-deserved break - I give it a month at most before you start to go 'cold turkey' and end up back here :rollin

  2. Re: Heads Up games strategy???

The heads up league is fast approaching and thought I needed to check out how this should be played as opposed to STTs and MTTs. I've only played a couple of games and now realise I just played too tight and kept handing over my blinds without challenging those of the opponents.:eyes Having looked at a couple of articles it seems aggression is the key. Raising almost with everything then pushing all-in every hand if you get a healthy stack. It could be a blood bath tonight then as I am going to put my aggressive hat on, if I can find it! I just hope I'm not up against a PLer though as you lot seem well versed in HU play and I may then have to play more conservatively...or not!:wall :unsure:unsure:unsure
Raise or fold is pretty good advice for all poker, but is even more true heads up. If you catch any of the flop at all, then usually raise and re-raise. Be aware that the value of hands is different. 78s is better than A4o in a 10-seat table, but HU it is the other way round. The section on HU in Harrington vol 3 will teach any player a lot. :ok
  3. Re: Table selection on Boss

The way they play on the sites I play I don't think they have heard of poker never mind trackers.
:rollin :rollin There's a lot of truth in this! I bought poker tracker but have stopped using it, as I found it was a distraction that wasn't helping. I found it was leading to me concentrating on opponents' stats rather than using position on them which is the key.
  4. Re: **Monday 3rd December ** Thanks everyone. Can't help thinking the timing of my move when I went out was wrong. The final table was crazy-aggressive, and if I had waited another round or two I could easily have crept up a place or two even if I wasn't dealt a hand big enough to go all-in with.

  5. Re: **Monday 3rd December **

randr 7th of 19 left - gl mate :ok Forget the £2166.23 for first place - there's BPP riding on this :loon :tongue2
Hope you're not planning on going to bed for a while, GaF :dude
  6. 32 Red Christmas Tons of interesting stuff at 32Red as part of their 32Red Days of Christmas promotion. On 2nd and 30th they have $5k and $7k freerolls respectively. Registration for them is open now :loon Various other freerolls, raked hand freerolls, bounties etc throughout the month. Just open the software and look under the specials tab :ok

  7. Re: Virgin Poker Festival

What was disappointing is that people turned up (including a few Plers) determined not to have any fun, miserable faces, sat on their own, not joining in, trying to create some sort of aura that a great poker player needs to be a miserable, moody, arrogant bastid. Some players I know for a fact got knocked out because their bottom lips were protruding that much they couldn't see their cards. There is a time and a place for taking the professional approach but I think on these 'party' weekends that the poker should come 2nd and if you get bust so what, it is not the end of the world.
Hmmm, not sure I agree with this. I don't remember anyone trying to create an aura, act like a TV-star-with-attitude or anything like that. I certainly concentrated more on the poker side of the event than the social side (for example I didn't touch any alcohol), as, for me, the whole attraction of the event was the chance to test my game by playing in a big multi-day event without having to pay a big buy-in. If I just wanted drinking/socializing with a little poker on the side then I could do that in the local Yates Wine Bar poker league. For some of us, sitting at the table quietly concentrating on the cards and the play is where the enjoyment comes from.
  8. Re: Virgin Poker Festival Anyone else who hasn't yet booked accommodation might be interested to know that the Marriott (across the road from the casino) have just reduced their price to £100/night inc. breakfast. :ok

  9. Re: BPP Update There's a problem here in that you only get one chance to vote in the daily poll. What if you initially don't intend to play in a game, but it wins and becomes the Focus game and then you do want to play? Would it be possible to re-open the poll after the focus game is chosen?

  10. Re: Value Qualifier on Mansion at 8pm tonight

There's a $10+$1 rebuy qualifier to the $150,000 at 9pm GMT - Top 20 get seats, next 10 get cash - $2260 gtd - 5 in at the moment... Seems to be the only one of interest tonight....
The freezeout satelites normally have about 14 runners so are added value too.
  11. I'm moving house (and country!) soon and am clearing out my magazine collection. I have pretty much every issue of Inside Edge/Poker from Aug 2005 onwards and Poker Player from Nov 2006 onwards. If anyone wants these, you can take them for free as long as you're willing to collect from North-west London. PM me if interested. :ok

  12. I will soon be moving to Perth, Western Australia. I know we have a few Aussies here so I had a couple of questions: 1) What's the current legal situation in respect of online poker? Do Aussies have trouble with being banned from some sites the way that Americans are? 2) Does anyone have any knowledge of what the live poker scene is like in Perth? I know from last time I was there that the Burswood casino has a poker room, but would be interested to here if there is much action there, and what sort of games/limits are played? Thanks
