Santos Sao Paulo could only draw in Mexico in the first leg of this Copa Libertadores quarter finals against America Mexico. They finished goalless despite their record performance in the group stage with six wins in six games and a goal tally of 12-1. Santos got their qualifications from the eighth final but had to battle hard as they finished 2-2 against Caracas in the first leg while playing away and won 3-2 in the second leg at home. They have thus conceded 4 goals in that eighth final and have shown a leaky defense. They should be wary of America who usually play it tight and if the latter scores one goal it will be hard for Santos to kick back two more. Santos seem to have suffered in their last three games and are winless in them. Apart from the draw at America they lost twice in the Seria A to Sport Recife (4-1) and America Natal on Saturday by 3-2. They’ve conceded a total of seven goals in these two games. America have played in progress since the 2-1 defeat away at ColoColo. Besides winning 4-1 on Atlas they drew with Santos and they won twice by 1-0 ( home and away) on very good Guadalajara in their last two games. On Sunday they were the underdogs but won by 1-0.

With the poor defense shown by Santos, I believe America can cause a surprise here and the bet is worthy to take at the 8.75 odds. I choose the away win at 8.75 @ Expekt 5 points,

They are coming to this second leg of the quarter-finals on the back of the 2-0 win at home and will go all out to defend that advantage at Brazilian team Gremio. The latter have been on ups and downs but won their last five home games and the five wins they registered were all by quite high scores 4-0 on Caxias after being beaten by 3-0 away at that team. They won by 1-0 on Cerro Porteno in Copa Libertadores, 4-1 on Juventude, 2-0 on Sao Paulo in CL and lastly 2-0 on Fluminense in the Serie A on Sunday. They are showing a great home form while Defensor have been rather limited in their away games losing three of their last five away to draw one and win one in their local Primera. Gremio will look forward to score three to get their qualification but I believe Defensor will offer their highest resistance here in the defense of their two goals advantage and they are able to hold Gremio to a draw. This is a big big game for Defensor and I believe they will attempt to score early here and possibly get the win. For the good odds I would venture a choice of the away win @ 9.0 @ Stan James – 5 points.

This progress results from their six unbeaten games streak in which they drew four and won two while meeting moderate and high opposition . The win tonight will bring them one more seat higher and at only one point from high-flying River Plate.

This is great motivation for them to look forward for another win when hosting poor rock-bottom team Quilmes who are coming to the game on the back of three successive defeats of which two at home and one away at rather poor Belgrano 12 days ago. On that day Belgrano stood second-bottom place and Quilmes suffered from them a heavy 3-0 defeat. showing their poor away form. From last ten Quilmes were defeated seven times although they managed one win at home on Colon and two draws at Newells and Argentinos.

Lanus won last their game by 3-0 on improving Colon while Quilmes lost by 2-1 at home to Boca Juniors who were more concerned with their coming Copa Libertadores game at Libertad this week.

Boca Juniors are running the battle on two fronts, the Clausura and the Copa Libertadores and matters are hard for them although it is difficult for any opponent to play them. They are satisfied to be alive in both tournaments and will want to do well in both. They drew at home against Libertad on Thursday in the Copa and tonight visit rock-bottom Quilmes in the league. Boca can be expected to win here although Quilmes is considered difficult by Russo the manager. His attaention is drawn more to the Copa Libertadores as he puts it saying there is a long way to go in the Clausura and 90 most important minutes in the awaiting match at Libertad. So we can expect Boca to reserve their energy, but as they need the points to keep their chances of winning the Clausura they will bring in sufficient motivation and strength to win that game. Velez are on three winless games with two wins and one draw and seem to have picked up a better form recently and have behind them the series of three successive defeats at the end of April and beginning of May. They were defeated by low placed teams Independiente and Rosario and Boca Juniors in the Copa Libertadores by 3-0.

But they picked up and in last three games they have three difficult encounters and was excellent in them. They won on leaders San Lorenzo and in the reverse game of the Copa Libertadores they won on Boca Juniors by 3-1. Finally last Saturday they drew away at third placed Estudiantes by 1-1.

Their excellent form cannot be denied and they should be able to win tonight on poor and declining Gimnasia La Plata who have fallen to second bottom seat of the Clausura. Gimnasia are winless in five last games losing four in succession and drawing the last at home with third-bottom Nueva.

At 10^th place and with 18 points Velez undoubtedly and will look to move up the tables and they will have known the result of Newells ( 8^th and 20 points) who play some hours before them,

The game between Belgrano and Quilmes is one between the last two teams of the table of the Argentinian Clausura. Quilmes have one point less but have played one game less. This will be a hard fought game between these teams who will look forward to avoid the last spot.

Belgrano are the bookies favorites as they play at home and also I believe thanks to their slightly better recent performances.

In fact they lost three of their last six games to some of the better and in-form teams of the Clausura in Newells’ 0-2, Argentinos Juniors 0-2 and away at Arsenal Sarandi by 4-3. They managed in the other three games a 3-0 win on Copa Libertadores participant Velez and drew against high-flying River Plate and good Racing Club.

These performances are decent for a team standing at second-bottom place and show that they have not been outclassed in this Clausura. They can be expected to deliver again a decent performance.

For their part Quilmes lost their last three of their last four games winning one by 2-1, two games ago on out-of form Colon. This was their only win form last eight games in which Quilmes lost five and drew two.

Quilmes seem very limited against stronger teams and Belgrano tonight can be high opposition to them as Belgrano have done well against the good teams of the league. Belgrano play at home and will attempt to seize the opportunity to pick another three points.

Lahti are hosting Helsinki for the third time in this season. The two previous games were in the Liiga Cup. But against Helsinki today, matters will be different as Helsinki are rather consistent in their play and will play to win. I believe Helsinki much stronger than Lahti and can repeat the February 3-1 and beat the -1 EH. I would go for the away win here with the -1 EH @ 4.0 @ bet365 10 points.

But it was considered that Flamengo won on rather poor teams at the group stage and finished first of that group with five wins and five draws more because if the other teams weaknesses than Flamengo’s own strength. They finished with the second-best record of all the qualifiers, but they were powerless to prevent the defeat by Defensor Sporting. Defensor Sporting were in a group with high-flying Brazilian team Santos and were beaten twice by that team. Away they lost by only 1-0 and they should do better than that at Flamengo who are not currently to the level of Santos. Their striker Alvaro Navarro scored twice las time and Alvaro Ginzales scored the other goal. These players are in great form and with them in the line up Defensor will not be lenient and boosted by the fact that if they qualify they’ll be the first Uruguayan team to reach the quarter-finals since 2002, they’ll look to confirm the first leg win by another one on Brazilian soil. From their last ten games they won only two on poor Emelec in CL and Banfield who are at 3^rd bottom seat in the Clausura.

Velez will have to raise their game if they want to get something tonight when hosting the leaders San Lorenzo who lost only one game and drew only one in the 12 Calusura games they played up to now. San Lorenzo lost only to the second team Estudiantes four games ago and are on a three wins streak.

They are in good shape and won two games away and at home both on Ciencianno and Boca Juniors. I believe them able to win away at Cucuta or at least come back with a draw.
