  1. Re: League 1 > 4th Jan - 5th Jan

As a Walsall season ticket holder I can tell you that putting any big money or relying on us to help you win (what may seem) some easy money on paper would be a big mistake. We are notoriously hard to bet, frequently beating teams we should have no chance against and then losing games we should be winning. Our form has turned around a little recently, but we are still a strange side. We have some decent attacking players but a very youthful side that lacks experience from back to front and thus if we dont take the chances we create we are always liable to lose a goal at the other end, making us very hard to actually nail a result down to. On actual team news, the good news for Pompey is that we are again going to be missing our leading and best player Florent Cuvelier from the midfield after he went off with another hamstring injury only 10 minutes into his return against Stevenage, the bad news is that in-form (and probably our only real attacking thread without Flo) Febian Brandy is back, having scored a few goals recently and generally looking like creating something he is without a doubt my man to watch for us. Overall I'd say its a hard bet to call, I certainly wont be backing either team with any kind of stake, especially now ourselves have dropped from 1/1 - > 5/6 .. However I do believe there is some good money to be won if you are willing and interested to have a real look into things. I quite fancy both sides to grab a goal, given Pompey are like a sieve at the back and we have the third worst defence in the division. Both Teams to score 1.66 @Bet365 Febian Brandy to score 1st & Walsall to win 3/1 @WilliamHill Febian Brandy to score 1st 5/1 @WilliamHill
Quite pleased with my predictions here, the only surprise is that both teams didn't score. I reckon a lot of punters will have backed that instead of Walsall to win straight up. Brandy in good form again, had a feeling he'd score the 1st goal, hence naming him above. Did anyone back him to score? Thought it was quite a comfortable performance, after an opening 20 minutes or so where Pompey looked marginally the better side. As soon as we scored the 1st goal the confidence drained from Portsmouth and we could have gone on to score 4 or 5 in the end, dominating the chances and shots on/off target. 4 wins in 5 now and some deserved plaudits. It was a needed victory anyway considering the games we have coming up in the next few weeks. PNE away, Bournemouth at home.
  2. Re: League 2 > Sat 5th January Think I may have minced my words a little, I was warning of people to steer clear not saying I'm going to steer clear. I was just listing the possibilities that may occur in the game, not actually saying that Plymouth sacking a manager will have anything to do with the outcome today, more suggesting that's happened many times throughout footballing history. It'd be wrong I think to look clearly on the league table and form when there are other mis-leading factors. That being said, I'm still backing them to win.

  3. Re: League 2 > Sat 5th January Accrington v Dagenham - NB (Go for the raffle draw here, this could be anything. I have a close mate who's a Dagger and says they haven't been defending well recently, for anyone out there that fancied a little Stanley bet) Barnet v Bradford. Bradford look decent here in a price of 2.45. They have a decent squad on paper and look a decent shout for a play off push this season. The worry for them is the fact they have a big cup game at home to Villa on Tuesday. Will the players minds be elsewhere? Will the managers team selection reflect that? Barnet are in big trouble despite having Edgar Davids improve the clubs position and form since he joined Mark Robson (who has now departed) before christmas. I think this will be a close one and you'd have to question where Bradford minds will be ahead of Tuesday, but if your having a bet of 'maybe's' - then this will be the one to go to. Bristol Rovers v Gillingham - NB (Rovers will be feeling the positive effects of new manager syndrome and beating Plymouth last time out, Gillingham are top and won away at in-form Southend last time out, but have been in-consistent themselves in recent weeks. Dont see much point here) Port Vale v Plymouth Argyle-NB (Steering clear of this, Vale lost at home to Fleetwood last time out and may be down on confidence, especially at a price of 1.66. Meanwhile Plymouth have just sacked Fletcher and teams frequently dont lose there next game after sacking a manager. Nothing to see here) Wycombe v Chesterfield- NB (Another absolutely horrible game. I'd slightly favour Chesterfield, but they themselves are very in-consistent especially away from home and Wycombe lost at home last time out to Exeter who themselves had 10 men for a long period of the game. Draw perhaps, steer clear). York v Exeter - Both teams to score 1.61@Bet365 The odds tell us everything we need to know. Exeter are good going forward, but poor at the back and there scorelines reflect this. 2-2 and 3-3 draws in recent games, whilst recently promoted York are in the same barrier as consistently, in-consistent at either end of the pitch. **(NON OF THE ABOVE ARE MY ACTUAL BETS, JUST MY FEELINGS ON HOW THINGS MAY GO)** My bets? If I was feeling Risky? --------------------------------------------------- Bradford Chesterfield York v Exeter/both teams to score 8.48/1 @Bet365. MY ACTUAL bet of the weekend. Port Vale @ 1.72 - Bet365 Rochdale @ 1.83 - Bet365 York/Exeter - both teams to score. @ 1.61 - Bet365 3x £5 Singles. (Treble @ 5.11) Lets see how my real first write up goes.

  4. Re: League 1 > 4th Jan - 5th Jan

Do you have any decent scorers from the back? Players that come up for corners etc? We concede a lot of silly free kicks' date=' and a lot of the goals we concede come from set pieces and headed goals.[/quote'] Yes we have Andy Butler. Centre back captain fantastic, big in the air, no-nonsense and generally a very typical tough lower league centre half. Scored double figures for Scunthorpe in 1 season a few years back from centre back and frequently pops up with important headed goals for us. Played for Blackpool in their promotion season, Huddersfield and Scunthorpe in recent years. He's our only threat in the air, we have literally 8 or 9 6ft or less skinny 19-23 year olds playing for us.
  5. Re: League 1 > 4th Jan - 5th Jan I'm still not convinced. On 1 hand he has a very poor budget, probably the lowest or equal lowest in the division, has an ever dwindling fanbase down to a hatred for the upper echelons of the club (Jeff Bonser hasn't attended a game for 3-4 years since he was protested against on the last day a few years back) and a general sense of apathy and struggle from a club on a general decline. That being said, this season we have been very mixed. There has been some positives, he signed players with awful CV's at the beginning of the season, players that were young and had only played for relegated Hereford last season or even in the non league, we've tried to play some really very pretty tippy tappy football that worked for the opening part of the season, but what was evidentally lacking from the beginning was a lack of plan B. All of our players are small in stature, weak, young and in-experienced. As soon as teams came and didnt under-estimate us, packed the midfield with 5 we had precisely no answer. What followed was frankly ghastly, defeats at home to 24th placed Scunthorpe 4-1, a wolloping at Coventry 5-1 with our captain and usual leader being sent off before arguing with the manager himself, but biggest of all was getting thoroughly trounced over 210 minutes vs non league Lincoln, thus costing a winable game with Mansfield who now have Liverpool at home in the 3rd round of the cup. Amongst this 16 winless period, we played some of the most hopeless, dreadful, lifeless, un-organised, pathetic football ever seen in the football league. Smith was criticised and rightly so, for some of his clueless substitutions, dreadful tactics (sitting in at home to Yeovil whilst being 2-0 up with 75 minutes gone, taking Brandy off who was our only threat and ending up drawing 2-2 with a last gasp goal). IF we hadn't won 3 in 4, he'd have been handed his P45 by now, but just as it looked hopeless we scrambled a win at home to Colchester, before battering the Dons at stadium MK and are now seemingly full of confidence again, being unlucky to lose at Orient and then beating Stevenage with a late goal.

  6. Re: Mexico > Primera Division > 2012-13 Good odds for Club America at 1.83 - I feel they are likely to get a good result. Monterrey are a decent side (ive seen them win live 2-3 times this season) but having watched most of Club America's games this season, seeing how good they are on the break and going for the win at times when other sides would defend or sit on the lead, brings me to back them. Think I can get EVS @bet365 - > Very good price IMO.

  8. Re: Newcastle United v Everton > Wed 2nd January

I've backed Everton in my PL Tipsters comp today. They are consistently putting in good performances, but having either bad luck, late concentration lapses or conceding poor goals from a defensive point of view at exactly the wrong times. They were excellent against Chelsea last time out and have consistently performed very well all season, surely an avalanche of goals and a deserved hammering of someone is coming soon. Newcastle on the other hand, seemed to have lost all the good features of their performances last season which saw them over-achieve with on paper what is a decent first XI, but a mediocre looking squad. They can't seem to defend for their lives and suffer particularly against pace, of which the likes of Pienaar have plenty. Its strange how sods law does this to managers and teams not long after they have just extended long term contracts (8 years I believe). I fancy Everton to sneak the away win by the odd goal, 2-1 or 1-0 perhaps especially with Ba's recent speculation and Cisse lacking confidence through his entire game, perhaps both teams not to score would be a cheeky low staking option.
So 2-1 Everton in the end, quite pleased with my write up (without blowing smoke up my own arse). Everton showed why they don't win and often draw so many games with a defensive lapse early on, before creating and missing chances (see Pienaar and Fellaini) before Everton eventually took the chances that the leaky Newcastle defence were always going to give. Heres too many more.

  10. Re: League 1 6th November Just be prepared in league 1. Both the lower leagues are very tricky to predict on this season and with Tranmere not being in such good form recently, it wouldnt be a surprise to see their promotion push keep faltering, be that a draw or a defeat I dont see an open scoring game. If I was going to back this game, it'd be under 2.5 goals and both teams to score. Some of the results in league 1 and 2 last night and this season have been very in-consistent. Crewe winning away at a physically strong in-form Doncaster, Brentford winning at Portsmouth after they've upped it recently, Scunthorpe winning 4-1 at us, Carlisle getting a draw after PNE played well against better opposition in previous weeks. Down in league 2, Rochdale scored late twice to draw away at Vale Park, Dagenham beat in-form Oxford 3-2 at the Kassam, 10 men Northammpton came from 1-0 down away at York to draw. The lower leagues are wide open at the moment. The stronger clubs have had to cut budgets and thus their players aren't as superior as they once were. You have Sheffield United as the stand out in league 1, Gillingham as the stand out in league 2 - after that, virtually everyone beats everyone home and away. Such is the relatively mediocre standard of the divisions, should 1 team not perform they will lose, even if its not likely to happen. If you really fancy Tranmere, id go with a small stake to win - a larger stake of Tranmere or Draw.

  11. Re: League 1 6th November I'd say the absolute banker for the evening is Bournemouth at home Shrewsbury. Shrewsbury looked very poor against us and haven't won since. They did come back from 2 goals down against Colchester to secure a late draw and despite loan signings looking decent on paper over the last week or so they did lose 3-1 at Hereford on Saturday. Whilst the FA cup can spring many surprises, to lose to your local rivales quite comfortably suggests that morale in the camp is likely to be low. Bournemouth on the other hand are looking good since Howe took over. It was blindingly obvious that Groves was massively under-achieving with the squad he had at his disposal. A team purchased together costing over £2m, full of big named players in the lower league. Howe has come back in, put faith in players (I think Matt Tubbs now starts for them after spending most of his time on the bench). They have a plethora of attacking players including in the in-form Marc Pugh never mind the recall of Wes Thomas (a solid and underestimated striker in league 1), the experience of Lee Farmyard, Matt Tubbs and so on. I dont bet at the moment due to financial restraints so please, dont take my word for anything, but If I was going to put this on I'd go along the lines of. * Bournemouth to keep a clean sheet * Bournemouth to score in both halves * Over 1.5 goals *For thoose of you that see Walsall favourites at home tonight to beat Scunthorpe. We are without our only good and creative player Flo Cuvelier due to a hamstring injury, our regular left back Andy Taylor is out injured and Febian Brandy is missing to (or he was Saturday). Leaving us with no recognised striker or creative midfielder on the bench, we were also an absolute pathetic disgrace on Saturday at Lincoln so confidence is likely to be low tonight. That and the fact any team that is desperate for a win, always beat us. Shrewsbury (bottom 4) have beat us, Bury & Crewe (drew with us) in the last few weeks all at the bottom of the league and we struggled to secure an FA cup replay with a struggling conference side Saturday as we scored with our only shot on target in the half. If I had a spare £10 and fancied a random little bet, Scunthorpe or Draw would tempt me.

  12. Re: Ligue 2 > Oct 26-29 Le Harve effectively ended my weekends betting. I had them in a double, treble and 5-fold Friday night with Sassulo and Guinamp featuring somewhere in all bets - they were the only team not to come in having battered Nimes in the 1st half without really threatening the goal, they very nearly scored late on with 1 that was cleared off the line. Would've brought me in well over £2k if they'd won.
