  1. Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet Prem Aug 24-25 Martin Riley will come into Wrexham's side to face Grimsby due to Mark 'Beast' Creighton's serious injury. Riley has a poor goalscoring record but looked impressive scoring a bullet header from a corner against Blackpool pre-season. Given our strikers are struggling at the moment (they've combined for 1 goal from 3 games) and this is being (wrongly, IMO) talked of as must-win due to our start (4 points from a possible 9), so I'm assuming we'll play a fairly attacking strategy, I think there could be value in taking him for first goalscorer at 40/1. 2. Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet Prem Aug 19-20

Id be very careful about looking at previous form especially as its based on different leagues. Alfreton were one of the best teams in the BSN whereas FGR nearly went down both seasons. FGR should be much better this time around.
And this turns out to be, if anything, rather an understatement. Will take more care next time! Great calls on both this one and Kiddy. :notworthy
  3. Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet Prem Aug 19-20

Alfreton v Forest Green Rovers FGR looked a decent team in the first half against Stockport and did well to hold on for a point at Luton on Tuesday, where Luton threw plenty at them to try and get a winner. Alfreton are struggling to get to grips with the Blue Square Premier so far, losing to Hayes on the opening day and drawing 0-0 with Southport on Tuesday. Those two sides are likely to turn out to be two of the weakest in the league and FGR should pose a much stiffer test. I can’t work out why Alfreton should be so short (odds on with Boylesports) to win this and FGR seem good value with Coral at 12/5 to gain their first three points of the season. Cambridge United v Kidderminster The home side are pretty fortunate to still be unbeaten after two games and given what’s happened in both matches they could easily have lost both. Wrexham were the better side last Saturday and United managed to sneak a last minute equaliser. They then hosted AFC Telford on Tuesday where AFC could easily have been 3-0 up at half time, but as can happen in football they didn’t take their chances and Cambridge took pretty much the one they had the whole match. I thought Cambridge could be dark horses this season and they still might be but it seems like the young side are still finding their feet and look vulnerable. I rightly opposed Kidderminster on the opening day of the season but they still performed well enough against Gateshead and followed that up with a very good effort to beat Lincoln on Tuesday 1-0, and it could have been more by the sound of it. Kidderminster seem to be playing the better of the two sides so far and the 2/1 that is generally available looks big to me.
1-3 and 0-2 at half-time, both looking very good calls! :clap
  4. Re: England > Weekend > Evo-Stik Northern, Southern & Ryman Prem Aug 20 Interesting blog here from a Hendon fan which has his preview of the Ryman season. http://whitmarshwhiskers.blogspot.com/ Thoughts of my own... Wingate and Fichley to beat Hastings United at 7/4 Corals, as highlighted by Ships above, has serious appeal. W & F have the momentum going after a cup double and play-off victory to end their season, while Hastings surived on goal difference. Also quite like the look of Ashton United to beat Rushall Olympic which is 9/5 Paddy Power and Sporting Bet. Rushall, newly promoted, have come from behind to draw their 2 games so far 1-1. Ashton were apparently impressive in seeing off Matlock 3-0 on the opening day before drawing 1-1 at Stocksbridge mid-week.

  5. Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet Prem Aug 19-20 Alfreton Town worth a look at 6/5 at Blue Square to beat FGR? Alfreton are generally strong at home, helped by their steep slope, with their Blue Sq North record over the last two seasons totalling at P 41, W 32, D 6, L 3, F 110, A 33. FGR, on the other hand, don't travel well, with their away record in the Conference over that period being P 46, W 7, D 10, L 29, F 50, A 95.

  6. Re: England > Non-league antepost > Evo-Stik Northern Prem 2011/12 Bradford PA worth a look, maybe, at 15/2? Impressive pre-season form which has seen them win 5 out of 6, scoring 6 at Tadcaster and again at Bishop Auckland, 4 at Brighouse, and win 2-1 at home against a fairly strong-looking Leeds United XI - including Leeds' new goalkeeper Lonergan - and 3-2 against an under-strength Bradford City featuring several triallists. Can't read too much into the pre-season results, I know, but the amount of goals scored looks promising, at least.

  7. Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet Prem Aug 12-13 Tipping Wrexham is an exercise in futility but there is a momentum here and a sense of team spirit that is almost unbelievable. Add to that a statement from the Conference which basically said "Hey, we wanted to get your owners out nearly as much as you did." and Wrexham to win at 5/4 Blue Square looks great! Also, if I can draw your attention to our last 5 home league/Conference openers, 2010/11 Wrexham 1 Cambridge 0 2009/10 Wrexham 3 Eastbourne 0 2008/09 Wrexham 5 Stevenage 0 2007/08 Wrexham 2 Morecambe 1 2006/07 Wrexham 3 Grimsby 0 Wrexham to score over 2.5 goals at 4/1 and Wrexham to score over 3.5 goals at 14/1 (both bet365) looks tasty! There's usually a decent atmosphere at the first home game which seems to fire the players up - the atmosphere on Saturday will be way, way beyond decent, and can definitely see us scoring 3 or more.

  8. Re: England > Non-league antepost > BlueSQ Bet Prem 2011-12 With their usual mixture of grace and charm, Wrexham bosses have just announced they had the money all along but didn't want to use it as they needed it for running costs later in the month. (They have £1.8 million coming in from nicking our ground and flogging it to the uni last week which they seem to have forgotten about.) Incredible, even by their standards.

  9. Re: England > Non-league antepost > BlueSQ Bet Prem 2011-12

True' date=' but I stole your identity and I remortgaged your flat instead :D[/quote'] Git! Anyone know where I can get legal advice around here?! Anyway, the big news is, WE ARE IN! According to a very reliable source we have verbal confirmation from the Conference we're good to go. :cow:cow:cow:cow:cow:cow:cow:cow:cow:cow From a gambling point of view, the amount of passion and the feel-good spirit around the club at the moment is INSANE. I'm not saying we're certs, but 20-1 is starting to look tempting...
  10. Re: England > Non-league antepost > BlueSQ Bet Prem 2011-12 The claim is we've now paid Cambridge - christ knows whether I believe that. The big news is, after the appeal at 9 o'clock or so last night, fans have rallied together to lend the club £100,000. Stunning stuff. Fingers crossed this means we're IN, waiting for official confirmation before I get too excited though! Edit: And we did it WITHOUT me needing to remortgage the flat!!

  11. Re: England: Premier League Aug 13-15

Given United's away record last season of won 5' date=' drawn 10, lost 4, I think they're underpriced at 1.57 and would be looking to lay despite their comeback win today.[/quote'] Not certain, obviously, but I think it's a possibility. I also thought De Gea looked seriously jittery yesterday.
  12. Re: England > Non-league antepost > BlueSQ Bet South 2011-12 NLP today is agreeing with Ships that Sutton at 20's look good - momentum from a pre-season which includes credible draws with AFC Wimbledon and a West Ham developmental team, a 5-1 win at Kingstonian and a 3-0 victory over Carshalton Athletic at home, plus excellent work ethic. They're also touting Welling United who just missed out on a play-off place last year and have retained Loick Pires and captain Jack Parkinson despite both having been on trials at League clubs. 16-1 considered value in their eyes (available at SkyBet and BlueSquare)

  13. Re: X-Factor Still not betting but there's a couple of nice odds in the Next Elimination IMO. Mary (5/2 with BWin) was dreadfully bland and Cher (5/1 sportingbet) was laughably bad and had the most horrendous styling seen since Diva Fever got kicked off - she looked like an 80's pre-teen! I'd be surprised if it was any of the other five left ahead of them and think they're both massively overpriced.

  14. Re: X-Factor I thought Katie was fine and put in one of the better performances, so not quite sure why she's around evens to go. Wagner - 7/2 VC and Betfred - looks like a very solid bet; terrible performance which wasn't really entertaining enough to win him many votes, coupled with a Sun front page story yesterday claiming he'd walked in on Mary when she was half-naked and refused to leave. Mary - 10/1 VC and Boylesports - looks huge value, a reasonably poor performance and she looks so dreadful that people might actually avoid voting for her out of sympathy here. Also, doesn't look like she'd cope with a sing-off - she's appearing so stressed she might fall apart.

  15. Re: X-Factor Katie looks seriously overpriced to me at 33/1. (Paddy, VC, various others) I know that she's had some bad publicity but she did a great job on Saturday night with a fun song which stands out as one of the few memorable performances of the series so far. Don't think anyone is brilliant and can't believe the low odds on Matt and 1 Direction.
