  1. Re: Npower League One > Ante-Post 2011-12 Season

As a Charlton supporter I would like to put a small recommendation forward for the 14/1 currently available on us to win the league. There are plenty of question marks following last season’s flop and none more so than the ability of rookie boss and club legend Chris Powell, who looked tactically naive at certain times during our woeful 8 match losing run towards the end of last season. However the 14/1 is only represntitive of that and I do believe he will learn from his mistakes. Add to that the fact he inherited a poor squad of mainly free transfers and was forced to make rash loan buys which didn’t gel at all. The main reason for this recommendation however is the investment in players that is happening right now. Under the new regime of Slater and Jimenez there is clearly money to spend and from the interviews I have heard from these guys they don’t intend staying this league for long. Is time last year our then chairman Richard Murray said the best we could possibly hope for was to finish in the play offs and that was reflected in the players we bought, this year Slater has stated the only goal is win the championship. We have already bought 6 players including Xabi Alonso's Brother Mikel from Tenerife, Danny Hollands who was one of Bournmouth's main catalysts last year in their unexpected play off charge and Paul Hayes who has been promoted twice previously in this league and should prove to be a perfect foil for Bradley Wright Phillips. Powell has also stated that we should expect another 6 players this summer and money is no object should the right player be available. Apparently we have recently had 400k bid for Danny Green from Dagenham accepted. Overall the future looks bright at the Valley this season and after 7 years on the bounce where we have finished lower in the league pyramid than the previous season this could finally be the season when we start to make some steps back to where we belong. Charlton to win league 14/1 2pts e/w
:nana:nana:nana:nanaSorry to be a showoff but pretty pleased with the outcome of this and hopefully one or 2 followed me in
  2. Re: Flat Racing - September 16th 3.55 Ayr - 2pts e/w Cara's Request @ 25/1 (bet365) - BOG David Nicholls front running charge rattled up an impressive sequence of form(1431121) last Autumn following a dissapointing summer culmaninating in a win over 7f off a mark of 80. Campaigned mainly over a mile in handicaps off marks in the mid 80's has resulted in a tempting looking handicap mark of 78 for today's race over 6f which should suit.

  3. Re: Npower League One > Ante-Post 2011-12 Season I think there is enough info in the early stages of this thread to go off. I agree with the poster who said with respect who care's about someones daft work sweepstake. We are here to share views of others not just leech info like parasite. I made my view clear early doors I expect Charlton to win the league this season, anything less will be considered a flop.

  5. Re: Npower League One > Ante-Post 2011-12 Season

Anyone want to critique my projections for the end of the season? I did use some of the information in this thread so the standings shouldn't be too terrible.
    Huddersfield
    Charlton
    Brentford
    Preston
    Sheffield United
    Milton Keynes Dons
    Sheffield Wednesday
    Scunthorpe
    Bournemouth
    Rochdale
    Colchester
    Carlisle
    Notts County
    Chesterfield
    Leyton Orient
    Tranmere
    Oldham
    Hartlepool
    Exeter
    Walsall
    Wycombe
    Bury
    Stevenage
    Yeovil
Looks pretty solid overall, Leyton Orient and Sheff Wed will be higher than you predicted. Just can't see how huddersfield can better last years third place finish without Pilkington and what is basically a weaker squad in a stronger league.
  6. Re: Npower League Two > Ante-Post 2011-12 Season Very interesting that there are many tips for relegation in this division as there are for winning it. Just goes to show the amount teams who are struggling at this level. One team nobody has mentioned as of yet for relegation is Crewe. 20/1 with Coral is a huge price according to an Alex supporting mate of mine. With the main threat from season Clayton Donaldson gone and Byron Moore the only striker left at the club Dario Gradi will have his work cut out. Money is tighter than ever and they be once again putting all thier faith youth, not too many olds pros to back it up this time though.

  7. Re: Npower League One > Ante-Post 2011-12 Season Danny Hollands have moved to us too as well as Wiggings. Speaking to a Bourmouth fan at work who thinks they could struggle too. The only downside is that there are maybe 10-12 teams who could drop this year and a lot will depend on injuries and luck. But as you say they will be there or thereabouts at the bottom so 7/1 looks like a bet that should be layable very early given a tough looking start to the season.

  8. Re: Npower League One > Ante-Post 2011-12 Season Just a small word of warning for anyone thinking of taking any the 3 relegated sides from championship, wait to see what happens in the transfer market. Sheff U are apparentley in deep do do moneywise and as the likes of Leeds, Southampton, Sheff Wed and Charlton have discovered bouncing back at the first time of asking is a tough ask. Of the three relegated sides I actually fear Scunthorpe the most, dont mean to be rude to the previous poster and certianlly not saying this out of spite but I couldnt back Preston with stolen money and would be willing take 1/1 match up against Charlton for as much money as you are willing to put up. I actually think the 20/1 for them to be relegated is worth a couple quid, you need more than a good manager to do well in this league. Only an opinion though and I could well be wrong. All Im saying is they seem to be selling more than buying and if the likes of St Ledger and Mellor leave to add the players who not signed new contracts already they could be looking very threadbare and from what Ive heard have a very small wage budget this year.

  9. Re: Npower League One > Ante-Post 2011-12 Season Hi Aliando, The answer to your question is a great big question mark, however I have the feeling how won't be given much manoeuvrability by this board. What I do know is we have owners, who seems to want to get out of the division at any cost and for that reason the 14/1 can only be a good thing. Of the others Huddersfield look rock solid and as long as they their best players such as Rhodes, Peter Clarke and Antony Kay stay put and replace some of the ageing defenders as they have done already they should be difficult to beat under the promising manager Lee Clarke.

  11. Re: Question of the Week 4 It depends what perception of me is too, but normally I would check. Ive Fired 2 barrels and the flop looks probable to have hit him if hes calling the flop bet hes almost certianlly calling the turn bet.

  12. Re: Punchestowns 6th Dec Cant wait for this race Barker and Aran could be really usefull this term. Denaman and Kauto look awsome this and year and Twiston Davies horse looks set for the Gold Cup too but other than that I reckon there is door ajar for an each way nibble and 50/1 about Aran Concerto could look very short after the race.

  13. Re: Darts: Las Vegas Desert Classic

Day One results Day Two results Friday's schedule of play, 3-dart averages and odds from Stan James: James Wade (89.37) 2/5 vs. Andy Hamilton (87.57) 15/8 Phil Taylor (97.97) 1/20 vs. Dennis Priestley (86.52) 8/1 Adrian Lewis (100.57) 4/9 vs. Peter Manley (91.34) 7/4 Jelle Klaasen (93.10) 4/6 vs. John Part (84.96) 6/5 Gary Anderson (96.37) 1/5 vs. Wes Newton (87.39) 10/3 Raymond van Barneveld (98.47) 2/7 vs.Co Stompe (94.99) 5/2 Terry Jenkins (94.16) 1/2 vs. Colin Lloyd (90.06) 13/8 Mervyn King (87.99) 4/6 vs. Kevin Painter (92.43) 6/5
Looks like a great night of darts, so much so infact that I may stop in on a Friday Night. I am thinking about a sly bet on Lewis to win outright after last nights display, but Manley will be no pushover knowing only a final berth this week will see him into the match play at Blackpool. One or Two of the form players crumbled :cry in the first round leading to bookies having full satchels after one or two bigs punts went adrift. I have to admit, I couldnt see myself why everyone was all over Whitlock against Jenks, who allways averages over 90 and baring the occasional missed double normally a good solid bet. Andy Hamilton could be worth a punt against Wade but it will really depend on which Wade turns up, but you can normally tell which one has after the first leg so an In Running bet the best option here. A treble on Jenkins, Lewis and Klassen looks the bet for me happy punting everyone.
  14. Re: Darts: UK-Open 2009 Due to the short format early on and the draw format where the draw is done in FA CUP fashion after every round, I fancy some unfancied guys may make a run to the final as in previous years with Mawson and Van de Voort. So it's well worth having some small stakes but big priced each way punts. Ive gone for a couple of inconsistant players who might just turn up. Terry Jenkins 33/1 Genral Still fresh from the premier darts, one of the best scorers in the game. Beat Gary Anderson in a really good match in the grandslam and is overpriced for sure. One of the few players who is capable of beating Taylor, Barney and Wade in the later stages. Andy Hamilton 50/1 Sporting bet Not alot to say other than, can beat most on his day. Ronnie Baxter 100/1 Ladbrokes Another one who came into form at the end of last year, I imagine he still is. kevin Mcdine 125/1 Sporting Bet Improving all the time, another huge price. Rholand Scholten 500/1 sky bet Twice finalist only a few years back in this but seems to have gone complety backwards since his injury. Only a small and very specilitve bet this one.
