  1. Re: League 2 > 28/29 September Fleetwood - Barnet - Fleetwood to win to nil @2.5 with Sky I am jumping on the anti-Barnet bandwagon here as I really think that Highbury will be a tough place for them to get their first away goal or a point of the season. Their new signing, Collins, apparently lacks match fitness so if Fleetwood are concentrated enough they should continue their fantastic start to the season.

  2. Re: Npower Football League One > 13th / 15th September Preston - Crawley 1 @ 2.25 with Sky. Preston were among my favourites for promotion and after their slow start they look like they have now hit good form. Two consecutive wins in the league + some good cup results can only produce extra confidence in the side and this is how Westley's sides operate - confidence, self-belief and hard work - Attitude Is More Important Than Ability. Not that Preston lacks the latter - with players like Wroe in midfield, Candsley Sherrif in defence, pacey Monakana upfront Preston looked like they lacked one thing - a proven goalscorer - and then Stuart Beavon arrived. They're a complete team and I definitely can see them climbing up the table. Crawley have had a good beginning but probably the Swindon match showed that they will struggle against top teams. They have two suspensions - Josh Simpson and Hope Akpan and one injury - Sergio Torres with Claude Davis waiting to be assessed before the game.

  3. Re: League 1 > 21st August I watched the Brighton game on telly and didn't see any bad atmosphere at all. Yes, I heard about Caddis' case and although it does seem harsh, they're supposed to be professional football players not a social club. I'm sure Di Canio will get the team to do the business rather than weep because someone was stripped of an armband. And by the way the price is now above evens I wish I had waited a little bit longer although I'm still considering adding a small stake to back Swindon to win to nil.

  4. Re: League 1 > 21st August Swindon - Crawley - 1 @ 1.95 with WH. Crawley started their L1 life with beating Scunthorpe at home 3-0 but the impression here is that this result does Scunthorpe injustice. They created quite a lot of chances and their manager was unhappy with their poor conversion. Crawley's manalwas furious at his team that they allowed Scunthorpe too much. Swindon at home play very well and their style of play with strong foundations at the back in Wes Foderingham and strong defence allows them time to create chances. Their conversion should also be much better than Scunthorpe's and especially after their 0-0 draw in the first match they will be determined to get those 3 points at County ground.

  5. Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet Prem Aug 11 Thanks Barton Bank - that's entertaining. Woking defence looked very weak - it looked like it could have been 5 or 6 for Wrexham - penalty for handball and missing an open goal from a yard.. By the way, does anybody know if the new BBc NonLeague Show on Radio 5 will be available via podcast at the same address as the old one? 5 am on Sunday is not my time to get up! :D

Following from discussions in the antepost thread today (thanks Shipps' date=' Kevshat and Addpea) I am wondering whether there is value to be had in Luton to beat Gateshead to nil. Luton have a solid defense and a great goalkeeper in Tyler and apparently they have improved under Buckle in terms of organisation. What is very important, though, is that they signed Gateshead's top goalscorer Jon Shaw, leaving them with midfielder Cummins (12 goals last season), and strikers Hatch (4 goals since he joined from Darlo in January) and new signing from Hartlepools, James Brown. Brown scored just one goal last season and was released by his club so he is a bit of an enigma at this level. Luton to win to nil currently at 2.6 (8/5 for you Brits;) ) with 365 so I will probably wait to see if other firms put a more tempting price on this market.[/quote']Taken. 2.75 (7/4) with Blue Sq seems generous enough for Hatters to win with a clean sheet.
  7. Re: Antepost > Championship > 2012-13 Arterrier - I had a bet on you to win po final last season and I think Huddersfield are a bit underrated again so I fancy playing Hudds but on a matchday market. Again, looking at the first fixture of the season I think that cardiff are slightly overrated so will consider backing Terriers in some way. Could you give us some insight on the way you've been playing at friendlies? I thought your biggest weakness last season was 1) defense 2) giving away goals too easily especially when leading (Leyton at home, Franchise in the PO semis to give just two examples). Do you think Grayson has managed to improve in these areas? And also is rhodes staying with you?

  9. Re: Antepost > League 1 > 2012-13 They do sound like decent players and if Pompey manage to get them it will be a question of how they adjust in L1. McLeod was obviously L2 top scorer (or among the top scorers) and playing for relegation threatened Barnet it is some achievement. Djilali was at Wimbledon and spent a few months injured but showed lots of promise when played. A pacy winger who is not afraid of the ball and can cross well. There were concerns about his attitude - he once played at a minot London Senior Cup game and apparently got a strop and started mouthing off at our manager, Terry Brown. That's what ended his career at Wimbledon.

  10. Re: Antepost > League 1 > 2012-13 I've just read this article on BBC that Aplleton wants to meet with prospective owners to get green light to sign players before the deal is done! Sounds desperate but I can't blame the guy. Jase do you have any idea what players Appleton has got lined up? How do you rate him as a manager anyway?

  11. Re: England > Antepost > BlueSQ Bet Prem 2012/13 I saw him in 2 games - both against York - the 1-2 home defeat and the final. In both games Gray scored two early goals and I thought that with time his workrate decreased. I remember when Wimbledon signed Andre Blackman - pure footballing talent who could take on players easily. I said to my mates there was something about him that made him look like a spoilt baby and unfortunately I was right. Hopefully this time I'm wrong and Gray will become a hero of Luton faithfull by taking them up to the FL. EOT.

  12. Re: England > Antepost > BlueSQ Bet Prem 2012/13 Good post Ships - one thing I may disagree with is the judgement of Gray. Although there is no doubt he's talented and has got potential from the few games I saw him there is something of a conceited cock about him. The kind of guy who will throw the towel and blame the world when things don't go his way. Anyway, we will see. Thanks for the post, it's very useful.

  14. Re: Antepost > League 1 > 2012-13 Wolvesfan - did your team play a strong side? I was positively surprised to see Shrewsbury had a 2-0 lead at halftime but they gave it away in the second. And on another matter Kanu's gone from Pompey, looks like they will survive and my Bournemouth to win DNB bet will be on!

  15. Re: Antepost > League 1 > 2012-13 Shrewsbury Town have lost five very important players from last season: Top scorer James Collins (22 goals) left for Swindon, main midfield man Nicky Wroe is now at Preston while two central defenders - captain Ian Sharps and Shane Cansdell-Sherriff left for Rotherham and Preston respectively. Moreover, the goalkeeper, Chris Neal, left to Port Vale after failing to agree terms of the new deal. Besides, the manager Graham Turner has released four further players: Midfielders Lionel Ainsworth (Rotherham), Sean McAllister, defender Carl Regan and goalkeeper Ben Smith. Looking at their new signings it appears as if the back line has been well replaced (subject to team gelling together) however I am afraid that Shrewsbury may be a bit lightweght upfront - they will probably have to rely on their second best goalscorer - Marvin Morgan. Here is Shrewsbury's full list of summer signings: 1. Oxford's midfielder Asa Hall - 25 years old, ex-Birmingham, Luton Town has been on loan at Shrewsbury 4 years ago. Played in 82 matches and scored 11 goals for Us in the last two seasons. 2. Cardiff City midfielder Aaron Wildig - signed by Turner following his release by Cardiff - played for Shrewsbury on loan last season. 3. Aldershot Town's defender Darren James - former Shots captain and Player of the Year for last season. 4. Wales Under-21 striker Ryan Doble. He had loan spells last term at Bournemouth and Bury, but was released by promoted Premier League new boys Southampton at the end of the season. 5. Midfielder Luke Summerfield from Cheltenham. 6. Midfielder and utility man Rob Purdie from Hereford. He was managed by Turner before at Hereford. 7. Goalkeeper Chris Weale from Leicester City. Spent last three seasons with the Foxes and had been first choice keeper before the arrival of Kasper Schmeichel. 8. Goalkeeper Joe Anyon from Lincoln - Imps' Player of the Year last season. 9. Midfielder Paul Parry from Preston - he was rated by Westley but turned down new deal at PNE to join Shrewsbury. He played for Turner when he started his career at Hereford. 10. Central defender Michael Hector on loan from Reading. The 20 year old is yet to make his debut for the Premier League newcomers but he made 31 appearances on loan at Barnet last season.

  16. Re: Fixtures by teams Interesting stuff but I am thinking how practical and useful it will be in real life betting. Also, on what basis is the difficulty of games decided? For example, I see that Bournemouth's first away game at Portsmouth is graded as 'hard' but, if the game goes ahead at all, it could be Bournemouth against Pompey Youth/XI... ;)

  17. Re: Antepost > Championship > 2012-13

Certainly think Huddersfield are worth a mention at their price. Grayson has bought well so far investing wisely in the likes of Oliver Norwood - who stood out at this level for Coventry last season - Sean Scannell from Crystal Palace who can be useful and also the signing of Dundee United full back Paul Dixon. Obviously the main task is to keep Jordan Rhodes and if they do I feel they have a strong solid spine of a team in Bennett/Smithies, Peter Clarke, Oliver Norwood and Jordan Rhodes. They have a very ambitious chairman who is a fan of the club and he is willing to pump money into signings also.
Started looking at this yesterday and think I rounded the championship down to one of about 16 teams :lol Gonna be another tight to call season :clap I'll put a detailed post on Cardiff closer to the time as there loads going on both on and off the field. I looked at Huddersfield too at such a big opening price. Whilst they may not have won as many as they perhaps should have done, they rarely lost either. In league one, they were one of the big boys and a number of teams played them not-to-lose. The championship is a different league. Huddersfield are no longer the big boys and this may be to their advantage. Whilst the top clubs fight amongst themselves to go up, teams like Swansea, Norwich and southampton have found they have been able to waltz through almost unwatched. This looks like it's gonna be a bettors nightmare league again with coin tossing being as successful as hard work studying teams. There are better teams than Huddersfield but it's looking a very open league and their price ATM represents value IMO.
Following from the above posts and for the record, here are Huddersfield's signings so far this season: 1. Midfielder Adam Clayton from Yorkshire rivals Leeds. The 23-year-old former England Under-20 international played under Terriers boss Simon Grayson at Elland Road after being signed from Manchester City. 2. Manchester United midfielder Oliver Norwood on a three-year contract. Barnsley were optimistic of signing the 21-year-old, but he has instead chosen to move to the Galpharm Stadium. Northern Ireland international. 3. Dundee United full-back Paul Dixon. The 25 year old defender made 44 appearances for the side who finished fourth in the SPL last season. He was tempted by several Championship teams but chose the Terriers. 4. Defender Joel Lynch. The 24-year-old left Nottingham Forest at the end of last season after failing to agree a new contract. 5.Crystal Palace winger Sean Scannell. The 21-year-old has agreed a three-year deal with the Championship newcomers. Scannell, who has represented the Republic of Ireland at youth level, made 41 appearances for the Eagles last season, scoring four goals. 6. Keith Southern - 31 year old midfielder from Blackpool. In the last decade he has made over 330 appearanced for the Tangerines and was managed there by current Hudds gaffer, Grayson. Huddersfield have also ended their interest in 25 year old Leicester full back Lee Peltier after the price quoted by Foxes was too high. There's silence on Jordan Rhodes so I reckon he's staying at Hudds.
