  1. Re: Barry Greenstein goes bananas After reading that last entry in his blog it seems hes been stitched up. Will be interesting to read ESPN's retraction, if they do one, he is getting slaughtered though on some of the yank poker message boards, english hooligan seems to be the common theme.

i now have to consider my position as regards the deffamation of my character
Will be funny if he sues greenstein/espns ass.
  2. at Simon 'Aces' Trumper, have a read see what you think The full article is here: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/poker/columns/story?columnist=rosenbloom_steve&id=2100457&num=2 Barry Greenstein is peeved. He probably would show signs of anger if this wasn't about 12 hours after an episode that occurred early Sunday morning in the $10,000 buy-in Pot Limit Omaha tournament. "I'm fourth in chips with about $45,000 or so,'' Greenstein begins. "I hadn't been raising that many hands before the flop, and I picked up K-K-J-10, spades and clubs. A couple people limped in and I raised the pot to make it $1,650. Two people called, so the pot was a little over $5,000. I got a good flop: Q-J-6 with two spades, so I had an overpair, straight draw and the second-nut flush draw. I bet $4,500, almost the size of the pot. One guy called, Simon Trumper. Now the pot is a little under $15,000. "The turn is the ace of clubs, which gives me the nuts and the second-nut flush draw. I don't know if he's flopped a set. He checked to me on the button, and I bet $12,000. He thought for 10 seconds and called. So, at this point, he's supposed to have either the nut-flush draw or some straight draws. He doesn't know I have the absolute nuts, so he might think his straight draws are good. He probably thinks I have a set of aces or queens, unless he somehow has them. "Whatever his call is, he's probably not getting the right odds. He doesn't know I have the nuts. If he has a spade draw, I have two spades out of the deck. If he has a set, I've got one of the cards. He's probably not getting full odds for his call. "I'm hoping for a small red card that doesn't pair. But a spade comes off (on the river). Now I'm afraid he's going to bet into me if he has the nut-flush draw. But he checks. Now, my question is, should I turn over the second nuts or should I bet it? It might be right to turn it over. It's a real big pot. At this point there's $39,000 in the pot, and I've only got about $27,000 left. So, I said I'll make a big enough bet so that if he raises, he'd almost have to have the nuts. So, I grabbed some chips and bet $17,500. "And he went in the tank - this is with less than a half-hour to go in the tournament (for the night) - for way more than five minutes. People are thinking of calling the clock on him. It's the end of the night and people want to play. But he's just sitting there, sitting there, sitting there. I'm being courteous in not calling the clock on him. He's looking at me, he's looking at people. Everyone's waiting for him to act. People want him to do something. "Finally, after 10 minutes, he says, "OK, I raise.'' My last $8,000 or $9,000. At this point, I'm saying the raise only makes sense if he's got the nuts, because I've represented a strong hand. I thought I was beat, but I looked at what I had left and it wouldn't be much if I fold, and it's going to be a pot of $90,000 or so.'' At this point. Greenstein says he's pretty sure he beaten, but he has a specific reason for not wanting to fold: He wanted to confirm that Trumper would sit there for that long - look, three minutes of indecision at a poker table seems like forever --and waste everyone's time when he was holding the nuts all along and not trying to run a bluff with, say, a lower flush than Greenstein held. "I said I would hate to condemn someone to be a (naughty word) for taking 10 minutes of everyone's time at the end of the night and somehow be mistaken,'' Greenstein said. "So, I called. Of course he had the nuts. "That's something that real poker players would never do, because then you get everyone doing stuff like that. It's kind of an accepted thing that you don't cheat, you don't certain things, because if some people do it, then everyone now feels they're forced to combat it by doing the same type of thing. You don't slow-roll because then everyone else slow-rolls. "But when you play in tournaments, you play with people who really don't have a concept of this. I'm not saying everyone, but a lot of these people. These people should be, frankly, eliminated from the sport, so we would have a cleaner sport. People like this shouldn't be allowed to play. That's how severe it is. These are the same types of people who, when they go to a new table and see it's their big blind, they walk to a different table so they don't have to take the big blind. It's this type of behavior that, frankly, shouldn't be allowed. These people aren't real poker players, is all I can say about it. Very irritating to deal with people like that. "I got up and left. Everyone at the table looked at me like they knew what a jerk he was. Now, when I talk to people - I'm letting people know this is what this guy does; it's important to get the word out when people do stuff like this - and what I've gotten from people is, 'Everyone knows he's a (naughty word). You just didn't know.' His name is Simon 'Aces' Trumper and apparently he has a website. "Ten minutes isn't what was necessary. He could've taken 15 seconds to give a hint of doubt to me about whether he did have the nuts. There's poker; I understand it. But there's a certain amount of time that's right and certain amount of time that's wrong. No good players would ever do anything like this.'' But wait. It gets worse. "Even when he turned his hand over,'' Greenstein said, "he turned over the 8 of spades, and then the ace of spades. He slow-rolled his hand.'' Greenstein was so worked up a day later, poker pro Thor Hansen said, that he marched over the to area where Trumper was playing the in the Pot Limit Omaha event and told him to his face that he should be thrown out. "I've known Barry 11 years,'' Hansen said, "and I've never seen him like that.''

  3. Re: Rounders........... OK I've just started playing these on bet365, started at the lowest level just to see for myself the standard etc, ive now won a level 1 and a two level 2s so I plan on starting the level 3s to try and build up some tokens for the 5th level (as was posted a while back by Norfolk). Where does it tell me how many tokens/buyins for the next level I have though? Ive been looking aroiund the menu options etc but cant find iany details. Any ideas?

  4. Re: Suggestions for when to have the first game of the new poker league? Personally for me Thurs and Sundays are out most weeks as Im flying back to the UK Thurs night or back here to Prague Sunday. If we cycle them a bit then at least I might get chance to play more than 1 this season, but if thats what the majority wants then its OK, I'll try and make it when I can.

  5. Re: Ept - Ch 5 Player "Yo-yo" was on my table at the later stages of last nights 15k on betfair, he was talking to a player named "Ariston" about being on TV, flying out to the world series etc, thought it was bullshit at the time but maybe its true H was very aggressive approaching the bubble stage though, he crashed out 5 off the money (only 4 worse than me :()

  6. Re: Ladbrokes referral Totally agree about laddies, cant get my head round the interface either, I think its coming from a simple layout like Betfair I have heard though that the tourneys are more/better on laddies so I should really give it another go We should get a sticky up with everyones experiences of the best sites for tourneys/cash etc? Ive heard there is a site full of Turks who are easy pickings (might have been sportingodds, cant remember)

  7. Re: Doing your bankroll Cheers for the sentiments, Beanie, Im glad I missed the match, I think seeing Sutton miss the penalty (I believe he did a beckham?) would have pushed me over the edge. Im gonna spend my none-poker time wisely, Ive just bought 'Harrington on Hold-em' from Amazon so gonna spend some time studying it, im downloading the Wilson Turbo poker software as well of some torrent site so can play a shit load of practise tournaments without caring about the cash. Sorted. :ok

  8. Hi all, I haven’t been around the forum much lately, had the laptop in for repair (free tip: 1, don’t buy an Acer laptop, they break down A LOT, 2, If you do buy an Acer laptop, try and not take it in for repair in Prague, they take a loooong time to fix it).

Ive managed to stay relatively up to date with the poker posts by looking from work, (some nice wins been recorded recently) but haven’t really been able to play myself, I tried staying till 9pm or so at work and trying to fit a couple of games in but the novelty wore off quickly.

Anyway I finally got the laptop back last Friday afternoon, as fate would have it just in time for a weekend I would be spending out here in Prague, the wife off on a hen weekend and I couldn’t be bothered flying back. As there was nothing else to do (all the rest of the guys I work with off home) I planned a pokerathon, a full weekend playing poker to catch up. I planned to hit the stts, the multis, the satellites and try my hand at the cash tables. And I did.

Friday wasn’t too bad, I managed to stick to the smallerish stakes stts, and I was pretty tired from work so didn’t really get the chance to play for long. I won a few, lost a few more and I awoke Saturday down around 150 (pounds, I would type the pound sign but I have a Czech laptop and there isn’t one). Saturday was worse than Friday however.

I was kinda bored, it was a nice day so I had a few beers and carried on playing poker. I managed to get through 6 cans in the afternoon, and come 5pm got stuck into the red wine. A bottle later I was pretty drunk, I don’t know how drunk but I know I started smoking again (I gave up at the new year) so it must have been abit. I had a bottle of white in the flat so I got into that as well and must have got smashed based on the hangover I had Sunday.

What I do know though is that from checking my betfair account statement that I must have got the idea from somewhere that I was actually a decent poker player, so I should hit some of the more expensive buyins, and I managed to hit a few of them.

My account reads buyins to stts ranging from 50 quid (I usually play 30 max) all the way to 200, 60 quid sixpacs (I hate them), 7 satelites to the 100K betfarir tournament Sunday just gone (7 * 15 = the cost of buying direct, and I still bought in direct at some point as well) and some 1/2 cash games. By the time Id finished Id managed to go through over 1400 quid, I also somehow decided to stick 500 quid on Celtic to win by more than one goal in the Scottish final. I have no idea why.

So there it is, the two grand id built up painstakingly, from the 10 stts where I started, gone in one weekend, or really one night.

It looks like Im having a forced break for a while, don’t feel like playing at the moment, but when I return (as Im sure I’ll miss playing) Im gonna start on the lowest limits I can find, I suppose I’ll be able to look back on this as a learning experience but at the moment it doesn’t feel like it.

By the way, Ive no idea why im posting this really, I cant really tell the lads at work and the misses would probably murder me, maybe its just to warn others or just to get it off my chest. Anyway, be warned, playing poker while ******ed is bad for your bankroll.:(

  9. Re: Why being a pro isnt all a bed of roses... Unlucky Jez,

So down 1k after less than half an hours play...I have switched off and am away to a small rebuy game to chill out :o....Of course I understand that this is all part of the natural randomness of poker and it hasnt really affected me
A grand down after half an hour, just makes me realise Im way not ready for cash games, id have been suicidal, or at least needing a new laptop :(
