  1. Re: UEFA Europa League > 25th August I'd advise anyone thinking of taking Hearts tonight to save their cash. Yes Rednapp will be fielding a weakened side and yes they have a massive cushion, but now that the gulf between the sides has been exposed for all to see, it would be a major emabarassment to Spurs if they let Hearts get any kind of result tonight. Spurs are at home and will not want to rip off their paying support. And besides, Hearts are also fielding an understrength side because they have a massive derby match v Hibs on Sunday, and that is one game that the Hearts manager can't afford to lose. His job is on the line so he'll be saving everything for Sunday.

  2. Re: UEFA Europa League > Thurs 18 August BlueSq priced the Hearts v Spurs tie up a couple of days ago and were offering 11/10 on Spurs :eek I thought it was a website error but smashed into the price anyway, just in case it was a genuine mistake. Turns out it was a genuine price, although it's now into 10/11. That's still an excellent price IMO. I know some might think Spurs could field a weakened side for this first leg, but they have a squad packed with quality and any 11 they field here will be on a different level to Hearts. The SPL is very poor standard and Hearts are not even challengers in their own league. Spurs played Champions League football last season, making the QFs, including some great results and AWAY WINS against top opposition. The Europa League may not hold the same appeal to Spurs but they would be one of the favourites to win it, if they decide to go for it. I think its too early in the season for Spurs to decide to give up on any tournament and although I don't expect their strongest side, I'm confident they'll have enough on the pitch (and on the bench if needed) to show how good they are. Bottom line - the gulf in quality is too great to offer odds like this.

  3. Re: Tennis - Wimbledon Ferrer 2/1 tb Tsonga has to be the bet. That is an insane price for the World No.6 player. I haven't been that impressed by Tsonga other than his big serve which is always a weapon, esp on grass. But he hasn't met a player the calibre of Ferrer yet and the Spaniard is a big time match player. This should be tough match for both players and at 2/1 you should get a hell of a run for your money.

  4. Re: Tennis - Wimbledon One bet sticks out today. F.Lopez at 1.30 (Bfair) v Schuettler. Lopez is a fine grass court player, has beaten the likes of Nadal on grass and has a good record here at Wimbledon. His opponent is Schuettler who's best days are behind him now at 35. I was surprised to see him beat the promising Bellucci in the 1st round but grass court experience counts for a lot and he just played too smart for Bellucci who racked up an emormous UE count. But this is a whole different match up today against an experienced grass courter like Lopez. Lopez is one of the best serve and volleyers around and his record against the German is 7-1. I can't see anything other than a comfortable victory for the big serving Spaniard. I'll be having a decent single bet on this as well as including him on a treble (yet to decide on the other 2 bets but I'm looking at Berdych and Fish just now).

  5. Re: UEFA > Champions League > Tuesday 2nd November Bursaspor v Man Utd - back Man U at 4/5 Looks a big price on Man U this (on betfair currently). For all their recent domestic problems, Man U are just too experienced to slip up against a side who are possibly the worst in the competition. A lot is made of the Turkey factor, intimidating atmosphere etc, but I feel the standard of Turkish football is an all-time low right now. Bursaspor were annihilated at home by an average Valencia side and Man U are clearly a step up from the Spaniards. Valencia v Rangers - back under 2.5 goals at Evs I agree with an earlier opinion on this match. We all know how Rangers will play for the 0-0, and even if they go a goal down, they'll still be ultra-defensive, so the unders looks a terrific bet (currently 2.04 on betfair). Valencia look mediocre compared to last season (you don't lose all those great players in the summer and not be effected) although I expect they'll be more dangerous at home compared to the last match at Ibrox where admittedly they rested a lot of players. Spurs v Inter - lay Spurs at 2.66 I was surprised by how much of a gulf there was between the sides at the San Siro. Nobody should be fooled by the 2 late goals for Spurs. It was very one-sided. Inter will be more cautious at WHL but they've just got too many good players and experience for Spurs. It could be a closer match this time but at the price, I'm happy to lay Spurs all day.

  6. Re: UEFA Champions League > 15th September I'm going for 2 bets tonight. LAY Chelsea HT/FT at 4/5 Chelsea's record away from home in CL isn't that great, and they have some important players missing (Drogba especially). I don't know much about Zilna but they will be organised and tough to break down, at least for a while. Chelsea are a patient side anyway and won't be too bothered if its a draw at HT. So I think the lay of Chelsea HT/FT looks a decent price. UNDER 2.5 goals AC Milan v Auxerre at 10/11 AC Milan are usually good for unders bets and with Auxerre being a typical French side (very solid, organised and strong in defence), this looks an obvious one for a low scoring match. Of course an early goal could change all that, but I think both sides will be very cagey, feeling each other out.

  7. Re: UEFA Champions League > 14th September Quite a few banker-looking bets on Tuesday but the prices are poor, so its hard to see any value bets. Might do a treble of Benfica, Barcelona, and Man Utd. I don't see any problems for those sides. I know Benfica haven't started their league season well, but they're a classy outfit and have a strong home record in this comp. Barcelona will want to bounce back after a shock home defeat, and Pana will suffer the backlash. Man Utd looked like comfortable winners away to Everton until a crazy last 2 minutes but that's all the more resaon for them to be focussed on the CL match. They have an awesome record at Old Trafford and I'm afraid the gulf in class is too much for Rangers. It's not impossible that the SPL side could score, but the problem is that they will likely be parking the bus.

  8. Re: UEFA Europa League Final > 12th May I'm gobsmacked at the support for Atletico Madrid here. Okay they've got more fashionable players and they're Spanish of course. Is that it? If it was Barecelona or maybe Real Madrid I could understand the confidence, but Atletico ??? Fulham have nothing to fear here. And ALL the pressure is on the Spaniards. I think Fulham will do it, probably in extra-time or penalties.

  9. Re: Champions League Wed November 4th I think Unirea are poorly priced here and its just down to that one result they got at Ibrox. Other than that, their form is poor. They couldn't beat Stuttgart in Romania (in fact they only just scraped a late draw) so I don't think the home advantage is a major factor here (and it's not being played at their own ground). Lay Unirea at Evs

  10. Re: Uefa Champions League 15/16 September As I said yesterday, Stuttgart are definitely poor value (they were 1.61 on betfair when I posted, now out to 1.71). So anyone who layed at 1.61 can trade back for a nice free lay :) They did beat Rangers last time at home but it was very close (winning 3-2 after being behind twice) and I expect Rangers' defensive tactics to make this another close game. Stuttgart have started poorly this season and got mauled by Hamburg at the weekend. LYON have to be on the shortlist at odds of 4/5. A great home record and an improved squad this seaon. Last season was unusually bad for Lyon (who have romped the French league many years in a row) but they've made some great signings and I expect them to be the dominant side in France again this season. French football is at least on a par with Italian football at the moment, and home advantage is crucial. Fiorentina are much poorer away from home and will play for the draw. But that will suit Lyon who are well used to playing defensive sides in France. I'm almost tempted to back Arsenal too and I will if the price reaches 8/11. They're a terrific away side and if they're in the mood could batter the Belgians. Will be watching the price on this one.

  11. Re: Uefa Champions League 15/16 September Doesn't look a great coupon this midweek. I agree with Man U and Juve who should be too strong but I wouldn't want to stake too much on these first games. Need the form to settle down a bit first. The one I like most is Lyon at 4/5. That's a nice price for a home side at this level, and I really don't rate Fiorentina who toiled against Sporting Lisbon in the last round. I'd also disagree that Stuttgart are a gift at best odds of 8/13. That looks a poor price for an average German side. It's not Bayern or Hamburg we're talking about. Rangers well capable of avoiding defeat here and Smith will send his players out to stifle the game and frustrate the Germans.

  12. Re: Champions League: Group Stage- Matchday 5 Wednesday 5th November "Man U will do well to get a draw at Parkhead" and didn't they do well? rescuing a draw near the end of the match LOL Yet again, another English giant and Euro champion fails at fortress Celtic park. Does that home record still look "good on paper, Alky boy ? The only thing "crap" is your bank balance after taking the 8/11 :nana Thanks for your cash, yet again. As I said, Man U a huge lay at 8/11, what a ridiculous price :lol

  13. Re: Champions League: Group Stage- Matchday 5 Wednesday 5th November I hear this "Celtic (and Rangers) are out of their depth and will get murdered" argument, season after season after season. I suppose one of these years, you backers might actually get it right, eh? Still, you have a lot of catching up to do after years of losses if you've been putting your money where your mouths are ;-)

  14. Re: Champions League: Group Stage- Matchday 5 Wednesday 5th November No doubt Man U are a terrific side and European Champions after all, but Celtic have beaten European Champions before at Parkhead. I'll give you one example - AC Milan, who in my opinion were better than Man U (and Milan's CL record makes Man U look like also-rans). And the point about Celtic not seeing much of the ball is 100% true, but it's often like that. Many many top sides come to Parkhead and dominate possession, control the game, and look like they'll come away with a victory. But guess what, the vast majority of them come away with nothing. In fact only a terrific Barca side have ever won there in many many years. Possession is not enough to win football matches. If it was, this betting game would be easy and there would be no bookies. Backing the away side at Celtic Park in this competition, has, is, and will continue to be, a route to the poorhouse. Man U are very poor value at that price. Now compare that with Chelsea who have a better chance of an away win, at a much better price.

  15. Re: World Cup Qualifiers - Oct 11/12 Love those Borat special bets. But be careful if you're going for the "Borat to be mentioned" bet.(the 5/2 on offer for first 15mins is gone, its into 2/1 now) The small print says "If it is said before match, at half-time or after match then it will not count" I think it'll be said before kick-off. Wish they would price that up.
