Race 2 Number 10 SUPER WINNER
Put the pen through his last start 10th placing as nothing went right that day over 1200m at Sha Tin. From barrier 10, he was urged forward as usual, however it was a charge of the light brigade as many had the same idea. Super Winner found himself racing three-to-four-wide throughout, took off from the 800m where he lobbed out in front at the 650m, and, understandably, was out of puff come the entrance to the straight.
Super Winner is better suited at this track and distance, has been in the betting in prior runs here, and could get a soft time on the lead under 7lb apprentice Alfred Chan, should he get across easy enough from barrier 9.
Race 9 Number 7 HIGHLAND FORTUNE
Raced wide throughout from barrier at this track and distance 21 days ago, all the while returning early figures that weren’t all that slow, so to finish in to third as he did was a good effort.
He comes into barrier 4 this week, gets Purton on board, and looks on the verge for a breakthrough win in Hong Kong at his eighth time of asking.

Race 1 Number 8 METHANE
A four-year-old who has looked progressive in nine starts and is most effective when ridden with a touch of patience and allowed to dash strongly home. On multiple occasions, he has returned some of the best ranking late figures, and, in the small field here, he looks well suited on the lightweight to fight out the finish.
Race 3 Number 2 ORIENTAL ELITE
Has looked better when ridden off the pace over this distance, and last start when first-up, he was ridden on pace in a fast run race where he returned figures of over four lengths above standard to the 800m. He faded in the straight, but was only beaten one-length, so the effort was good given the early work, and coming into barrier 1 this week should give jockey Neil Callan more options.

Race 2 Number 10 THE FULL BLOOM
An old-timer whose best form is in Class 5, and who has been the victim of bad luck or ill-judged rides since returning to the cellar grade six starts ago. He has raced wide throughout on two occasions, missed the stat at another and most recently he was badly held up from the 400m to passing the 250m, before he charged late into fifth, beaten 2 3/4 lengths.
He will bob up in this grade again soon with even luck, and at likely each-way odds this week, he is one to consider for exotics plays.
Race 3 Number 12 ADONIS
One to bear in mind this week, after he took no part in his last intended start after he lost considerable ground at the start due to his own bad manners. Worth noting that day that he was the subject of heavy betting, jumping at $9.50 after reaching a high of $22, so it’ll be interesting to see how the market treats him here.
He’s been forced back to the trials after his barrier mishap and looked well; not asked to do much but going well under a hold, and with in-form Teetan in the saddle, he has to be considered in all bet types.

Race 7 Number 10 PARTY EVERYDAY
Has been the victim of wide barrier draws but has been returning good late splits from the back of the field, placing at his last three starts. He comes into barrier 2 on Wednesday, has the potential to map much closer to the speed and is knocking on the door for a maiden victory.
Race 9 Number 11 OWNERS’ STAR
Put the pen through his last race as he sat on pace in a fast run 1650m race at Happy Valley, duly fading late in the piece into eighth, beaten 3 1/2 lengths. Prior to that, he had been returning some good late splits when ridden with a touch more patience, indicating another win was near.

Race 1 Number 2 HAPPY GOOD GUYS
Was an impressive winner here three starts ago, drawing clear by 1 1/4 lengths over up-and-comer Ares (who is hard to beat later on the card in Race 5), before racing without much luck at two subsequent starts.
Two starts ago, he raced tight over concluding stages in the straight and wasn’t properly tested, finishing 1 1/4 lengths into fourth, before completely bombing the start most recently as favourite when rearing and never really in it from there. He remains well drawn in barrier 2, has Moreira in the saddle and with a bit of luck looks the one to beat.
Race 8 Number 2 GOLDEN DASH
Looks on track to score a fourth career win after two promising runs back from a lengthy spell. First-up he checked home a sound second, before doing a lot of early work from barrier 12 at his second-up run, sitting second in running before fading late in the piece off a hectic early tempo where they clocked 8 lengths over par to the 400m.
Coming into barrier 1 this week should ensure a far more economical run in transit, crucial over the sprint trips at Happy Valley and on the C+3 course. And with Purton replacing Poon in the saddle, that can also be considered a big tick.

Race 3 Number 10 SEIZE THE SPIRIT
Returned the 4th fastest last 400m in his race at this track and distance 21 days ago, which had good merit to it given the jockey appeared in a state of confusion as to whether to shift in or out at the 300m, from where he was briefly held up before doing his best work inside the final 150m, checking home for a better-than-it-reads fourth. Vincent Ho takes over the reigns from Victor Wong this week.
Race 4 Number 2 EXPLOSIVE WITNESS
Still a maiden after seven starts but he returns to Happy Valley’s 1000m, where his best form currently stands with three thirds from five starts. And based on his fast finishing efforts in three prior runs here, he appears capable of surprising in the small field of nine.

Race 8 Number 2 SUPER OASIS
Races first-up for leading trainer Ricky Yiu after six unplaced runs with Frankie Lor, including a start in the Derby, in which he finished down the track in 10th. However, he raced wide without cover from the 1200m that day, so was entitled to drop as he did.
Prior to that, he did put in some okay runs, but the manner in which he has trialled in blinkers after the stable change, which he wears for the first time on race day here, suggests he’s ready to go close to winning.
Race 9 Number 9 KA YING EXCELLENT
Generally races on pace, but began awkwardly last start and settled well back in running, in which the lead speed of the race was run at four lengths below average. KA YING EXCELLENT defied the race shape to make up a stack of ground from the rear for a big performance.
He looked super in a recent trial and despite rising to Class 3 here, he has shown the class to measure up.

Race 3 Number 6 JUDY’S STAR
Only a three-year-old who hasn’t raced with much luck in recent starts: punted into favouritism two starts ago, reared at the start and dashed strongly home into sixth, before getting well back early again most recently but flashing home well late although racing tight late into fifth. A win is near.
Race 5 Number 6 CHEVALIER PRINCE
Has his second race start here after a fast finishing run on debut 35 days ago with the jockey questioned regarding his riding of the three-year-old: of the 730-word stewards’ report, 549 words were devoted to the questioning of the ride. The stewards were of the opinion that the jockey had the opportunity to place CHEVALIER PRINCE under more pressure than he did, so he arguably could have gone closer than 1 1/2 lengths he missed by. He has trialled very well since the debut run, gets Purton on board and looks a progressive sort to follow.

Race 7 Number 1 VICTORIAM
Had no luck in running at this track and distance 14 days ago after jumping from barrier 12, racing very wide in the early stages until the 550m mark, at which point he sat outside the leader. While all this unfolded, the early sectionals were run fast enough to suit those from off the pace, with first and second closing off from well back, so Victoriam did well to hold for fifth, beaten just two lengths.
Victoriam comes into a better barrier this week (stall no.7) and with Purton taking the ride for the first time, his chances look to immensely improve.
Race 9 Number 4 COT CAMPBELL
His last start sixth placing was better than it reads as he raced without luck in the straight, so you can put the pen through the run. He was badly held up for clear running from on straightening until passing the 200m, and again held up for a run approaching the 100m and was shifted out to obtain clear running over the concluding stages, so he arguably could have finished much closer than he did.
One to follow this week as he continues to slide down the handicap and should be finding the winner’s circle soon.

Race 2 Number 3 ROMAN IMPERO
Overlook last run as he was ridden outside of his comfort zone on pace in a fast run race, in which he was entitled to fade. Prior to that, he showed glimpses of returning a winner closing off nicely into fourth. Has to be respected in Class 4 and is more than capable to surprising here.
Race 8 Number 2 CINQUANTE CINQ
Flashed home the fastest at his last start over 1650m, but that doesn’t win you races if you stand too much ground at the 400m…which he did; he was 6 1/4 lengths off the lead speed at that mark and missed by a half-length on the wire to Acclaimed Light, who was within striking range at the 400m, just 3 1/4 lengths astern. Cinquante Cinq gets his chance to atone here.

Race 4 Number 5 THE JOY OF GIVING
Resumes off a 62-day break and was last seen finishing 20 lengths into last of 14 after he stood in the barriers and was never in contention. Prior to that, he finished an eye-catching third over 1800m at this track at his second start back in Class 5, where his record is clearly proven.
The betting market will be a good guide here, as he clearly mixes his form, but in a wide-open contest, he is one who could surprise if to show up.
Race 5 Number 11 INVALUABLE
Only a three-year-old who has been seen at seven starts so far, and has been knocking on the door based on recent runs. Most recently, he finished 2 1/4 lengths into fifth over 1650m at Happy Valley, but arguably should have been in the finish should he have obtained clear galloping room in the straight – which he didn’t, and went to the line untested over concluding stages.
He is trending in the right direction and is worth including in exotic plays here.

Race 3 Number 2 DECISIVE TWELVE
His last start second placing, in which he ran home well in the second fastest last 400m of the race, had good merit to it as he bungled the start and lost a bit of ground as the $2.60 favourite. He has trialled well since that last start effort, and looks ready to score third-up to 1200m.
Race 6 Number 11 PARTY EVERYDAY
Jumps from a horrible barrier in stall, however based on recent efforts, he has to be considered a live chance with even luck. The market has been all over him recently, yet he remains a maiden, but with Teetan replacing Purton this week, he will likely be overlooked to a degree and could prove to be great value.

Race 1 Number 10 FOR FUN’S SAKE
Is at his fourth time of asking and his last start 10th place had plenty of merit to it after copping bad luck in running. Approaching the 550m, he copped a nasty check and lost considerable ground, dropping right back to last where he stood the lead speed 10 1/4 lengths at the 400m but reduced that margin to 3 3/4 lengths across the line.
So, it was a better run that it reads on paper, and he looks capable of finishing in the money this week as an improving type with race experience.
Race 3 Number 4 YEE CHEONG PEGASUS
Racing very well for trainer Tony Millard after joining his stable five starts ago, with one win and four runner-up finishes. Last time out at this track and distance 21 days ago, he was well back in a very slow and inefficient run race — the lead speed -5.5 lengths below average to the 400m — however, he defied the dawdle to flash home into second for an enormous run.
Moreira takes the ride this week, so he won’t be the $4.40 he was last start, but he is the one they all have to beat.

Race 2 Number 6 PLAY WISE
His last start eighth placing is better than it reads after he stood in the barriers and lost ground, getting well back closing off the second fastest in the race and making up good ground when it mattered. More than capable of winning here with better luck.
Race 4 Number 9 EPTIWINS
Is racing well since in two starts for his new trainer, David Hall, but last time out, he was too far back in a slow run race after being steadied from a wide draw. His mid-race and late race splits, however, were full of promise and coming into barrier 1 this week, as well as Purton taking the ride, should prove him the one to hold out.

Race 2 Number 12 Virtus Star
Hasn’t had much luck with the barrier draw at his last two runs, which have been his first two starts for trainer Frankie Lor after a stable transfer from David Hall, but there’s been plenty to like about his performances.Two back, he settled mid-field to worse, before dashing strongly home into second. Then, last start, he sat on speed in a fast run race, in which he returned figures of a constant five lengths above average through each early section, before fading late but sticking on the best, beaten 3 1/4 lengths. With a bit of luck in running, he is the one to beat.
Race 5 Number 2 Lady Fist
Had his first start for trainer Tony Cruz at this track and distance two weeks ago, searching for his first local win after 27 starts, and there was plenty of merit to his fifth placing that night.
Dictated to by barrier 12 of 12, he was steadied early to obtain cover, and the race shape was one that suffered extremely slow early sectionals; the well-backed winner going over three lengths slower than average to the 400m, and over 7 1/2 lengths slower than average to the 400m – the epitome of a dash to the line. Lady First put in the run of the race from back in the field, defying the slow speed, and he has clearly taken benefit from a stable transfer.

Stood the lead speed seven lengths at the 400m at this track and distance, but reduced that margin to 1 3/4 lengths across the line after flashing home the fastest in the race for a better-than-it-reads fifth. Can map handier to the speed and is an improving type nearing a win.
Race 9 Number 10 What A Legend
Has his third start in Class 3 and both runs in the grade have been encouraging. Jumped from barrier 12 last start, was steadied early but powered home in the second fastest last 400m of the even in a race where most of the exertion occurred mid-race. Comes into barrier 5 and looks an each-way shout in an open race.

Race 1 Number 4 Sprint Forward
Resumes off a 90-day break and was last seen at this track and distance sitting on pace in a fast run race in which they the returned well-above average early sectionals, setting it up for those off the pace and with the winner coming from last-to-first. Despite the early hard work he stuck on well only to be beaten 2 1/4 lengths, hence good merit to his run.He looked well in a recent trial and on prior form, where he has scored a win over up-and-comer Mighty Giant, he looks well placed to be a leading hope in an open Class 4 contest. Another positive is he comes into barrier 5 after drawing wide at his past two starts.
Race 6 Number 7 Hello Beauty
Will have to having things to go horribly wrong for thriving three-year-old Wellington, who vies to remain unbeaten from four starts, however he enters this race off a solid run and has to be given an each-way hope. At this track and distance 14 days ago, he led them up at near eight lengths above average to the 400m, but only faded late inside the 150m, beaten 1 1/4 lengths – a solid effort.
Again, he looks the sole leaders in the race, and if to be rated well, he could inject some value in the exotic bets if he can hold for a place.

Race 2 Number 9 Bright Vision
His second fastest last 400m sectional in his last race had good merit to it as he also was required to exert ample energy in the middle section. The market gave him little hope that day, sent around at an SP of 145-1, however being from the in-form stable of leading trainer Ricky Yiu, he has to be respected as an improving type nearing a win.
Race 3 Number 8 Judy’s Star
Had clear excuses last time out went sent around the well-backed $2.70 favourite, rearing at the start and losing considerable ground. Returned a 21.90 second middle section – the fastest in the race by 0.40 seconds – as well as returning the second fastest last 400m, so plenty to like about his sixth placing. Meets a hot field but has to be respected based on SPs and current form.

South Africa races are back too!
