  1. Re: Super XV 2013

Bulls just quietly going about their business without the fanfare that follows the chiefs and crusaders.
Surprising really that the team seems to have performed better despite the long-term injuries to 3 star players in terms of Basson / Hougaard / Kirchener...the cause has been helped this year with our immense home form and the ridiculous amounts of injuries that both the Sharks and Stormers have had this year.
  2. Re: Super XV 2013

Indeed they are Nob. The Lions were South Africa's 5th team and were ousted last year for finishing bottom of the comp too many times, and were replaced by the Kings. I think the Kings are based in Port Elizabeth. Surprised and happy for them with the results so far. Thought they'd be walloped today and last week but fair play to them. I think it was expanded to 15 teams maybe 3, 4 years ago? Don't know how long it will last, the conference system is awkward for travel and if they want to include an Argentine side (possibly based in SA) they'll have to revamp it sooner or later.
The Lions were not ousted for finishing last too many seasons, just last season. The Watsons had long been campaigning for a Port Elizabeth side to be represented in the Super 15 and after the promise of featuring a team made up primarily of black players the politicians 'persuaded' SARFU that this was the time...they then went out and fielded a team with less black players than any of the other teams? ...It is the primary reason why they are absolutely hated amongst South African Rugby fans as most feel they did not get their on merit and it was just another 'quota' decision based on a promise they did not keep. Even with a few surprising victories under their belts...teams have now begun to suss them out and I will be very surprised if they do not contend the relegation promotion play-offs with the Lions in June...I would have to fancy them to win that one considering they have been playing Super 15 for the previous 3 months whereas the Lions have been playing practice games against the likes of Russia Reserves et al ! ...although the safer bet would be on yellow cards and even red ones as that will be a match of utter vitriol. As for the 15 team format...it will continue in such a format for the time being. The only talk is of increasing it to include the Japanese Champions and South American champions (presumably an Argentinian team) in the near future, although this will depend on whether the World Club Series that is being touted gets off the ground as logistically there will not be enough time to extend it if that happens. I know all this **** cos I live in South Africa (Blue Bulls season ticket holder).
  3. Re: England vs New Zealand - Test Series

2 more to add to the above. 3pts S.Broad Over 2.5 1st Inns Wickets Evs Ladbrokes 1pt S.Broad Man of the Match 14/1 BetVictor Stuart Broad should go well in this match. He has played for Nottinghamshire already this summer and I would expect that to translate into good form for England too. In his three full bowling innings for Notts this season he's taken four wickets in each innings and he's scored a pair of 40's too. He has a good record in England colours at Lords. Last year in the corresponding test with the West Indies he took 11 wickets and in the past he has scored a career best 169 against Pakistan with the bat here and a couple of 70's against South Africa and India so while he batting has deteriorated at test level there's plenty of suggest Lord's could bring out the best with the bat. With 21 wickets in his last three tests on this ground it is clearly a place he enjoys bowling, as it would be with the slope helping him to take the ball away from the right handers so I think he's more than capable of bagging three wickets in the first innings and if he turns that into 5 and then maybe 7-8 in the match and throws in an innings of any substance he'll be a runner for the man of the match award too.
Nice...on Broad MOTM - many thanks after a poor month so far, you have got me back on parity(ish)
  4. Re: South Africa League ABSA 2012/2013

I have written several times about the huge expectation from Mamelodi Sundowns this season. They have spent money to recoup a good squad. Coming from the back of two good results in the second half of the league, now it seems they have started gelling. They can still make the top 4 position if they maintain the rythm. They are the team of the moment in SFL ...
The result against Arrows was bloody typical of the Brazilians they will always be inconsistent and have been for several seasons. Unfortunately the club ethos has been to just buy any star player and throw them all into a star laden squad. It takes one helluva manager to make such ego's gel...Unfortunately as well as Mosimane has 'steadied' the ship the chances of them making the top 4 are extremely remote. The true form side of the division are Pirates who are grinding out win after win based on a defence that is going at under 0.50 goals per game. Tonight Platinum Stars had the better of things but Pirates took the 3 points (same as against Supersport last week) despite playing badly. There is a steel in that side that Sundowns will never have and is based on a core of players who have risen through the ranks from Youth level (that sort of thing breeds team spirit). I would suggest that teams such as Free State Stars, Platinum Stars and even Wits (with Barker as coach) are the form sides of the division and will all finish above Sundowns. I do a lot of SA tips...if your interested you can will often be able to find them here.
  5. Re: Npower Football League Championship > 19th & 20th February Posh fan here. I agree it is value. However we have got an awful record at the New Den so I will avoid it value or not. As for the few key players missing. We missed a couple (Tomlin / Zakuani) over the period you cite but have been pretty settled for a while now, thus the run of form. The key difference has been the return to form of Grant McCann who along with Tomlin (brilliant on his day a complete nutter the next) basically makes the side tick. If you have to bet on Posh I would suggest you wait until as near as possible to the start of the game to see if he is playing as due to his age Fergie Jnr likes to use him sparingly and prefers to use him at home where he obviously feels we have more chance of collecting 3 points (he prefers to play 4/5/1 in a diamond away from home and McCann just does not have the legs to sit at the base of the diamond anymore). I agree though definite value...it is maybe not as clear cut as taking the early odds though. Also remember we are pants against teams we feel we have a chance against. All our notable performance coming against the top boys or form boys. Give us a team we should get into and we generally don't!

  6. Re: FA Cup > 12th - 18th February

4pts Luton vs Millwall - Under 2.5 goals 10/11 Blue Square Millwall should win the game but Wolves and Norwich should both have beaten Luton and have failed.
There may be some value in Luton +1.25 on the Asian Handicap but I would be wanting around 2.00's for this which I will never get unless Bet365 throw out another lost leader like they did with the Liverpool/Man U game a few weeks back...I would be careful on reading too much into Norwich and Wolves. Both sides fielded very weak sides. Millwall will not and I doubt lightning will strike three times...will it?
