  1. Re: UEFA Cup 6th December JCtips - Then I must say we pretty much are saying similar things. Aris is no super-team, but has proven in quite a few matches that they have a good team. If you know Greek league at all, outside of Panathinaikos, it's a miracle if a team goes and beats a Spanish team in Spain and draws with a Premier League side on the Isle. I think it's Baghevic the head coach that makes the difference. And after all, in terms of players, one teams trash is another team's treasure (Ronaldo Garcia). It's widely accepted that Koke, one of their best players is not a scorer, yet he has had to take on that role in absense of a better option. Anyway, I think we could probably go on for days on this subject... Are you a Benfica fan? What do you think of Katsouranis? (Last time I went to a Benfica game was when Michel Prudhomme was playing at keeper!) Seeya soon

  2. Re: UEFA Cup 6th December Hello JCtips - I always appreciate a conflicting opininion. If you watch any of the Aris games, you'll see that they have good ball movement and very good player technique. However, they lack firepower upfront and their defense is not the most airtight in the world, but I was impressed by their coverage tonight. The goal that Braga scored was not due to their overpowering game. When I say Aris has a very good team this year I merely mean that in the Greek league they are much better than they have been in years and with Ronaldinho's brother being one of the major shareholders, there is definitely an open pipeline of players from S. America. Their games in places like Reebok Stadium (where they were equalized in the 93rd minute) and their performance in Zaragosa cannot be overlooked. Both teams mentioned are not doormats and I'm sure positive results there must stand for something and surely must mean that they are not only good at home because of their crowd. I don't know how far Aris will go in the Uefa cup, they may be ousted next round...but I do know that their coach (Bagevic) has asked for an attacker over the winter signing period and I'm sure with the results they've been getting, if they do go through (which is still far from certain after tonight's draw) they have the money to sign a decent forward. The new team owner has managed to save Aris from financial dire straits and is quite well-off himself; meaning that if all goes well, Aris will sign at least a couple of good players soon. (Rumor has it they might get Giannakopoulos of Bolton and certainly a good player up front). So in making a sweaping statement like "they suck", I usually like to hear some arguments to back it up. Sure, I agree they're not Real Madrid all of a sudden. However, a team that in the past few years was the doormat in Greece and now can beat Zaragosa and look Bolton in the eyes certainly deserves a second look. Also, JCtips, congrats on your midweek record. Pretty good, especially yesterday when most people were lured into betting on Overs.

  3. Re: UEFA Cup 6th December

Hello everyone! Another day of Uefa group matches and the same goes for today (as did yesterday). Don't expect all matches to go Over 2.5. There are a couple that have the potential to go Over, and I think some of you have hit on it. I'm gonna try and get as much info on the Austria-Panionios game as I can because there could be the possibility of an upset away win. Panionios has come off a couple bad results but all-in-all has a very good team, and Austria is unlikely to qualify for the next round...even with a win today (with a win, they'll be level with Galatasaray).
    Austria-Panionios 0-1 ;)
  4. Re: UEFA Cup 6th December Mazarin - I agree with you about the quality of the Uefa cup. However, just as with any sport,, you have to have a prime league and an inferior one. European basketball has the Euroleague and the Uleb Cup. American football has the NFL and the AFL or whatever they call it. American basketball has the NBA and the CBA and of course in baseball you have the majors and the minors. I think Champions League has lost it's flare this year because none of the teams have a really strong presence. Sure Arsenal just got better when Henry left, but it's really not enough. Where are the days of a strong Man Utd or Bayern or Real? Aris game update at the half - Even though Braga scored a lucky goal early, Aris has dominated with many chances and didn't take long to score the equalizer.

  5. Re: UEFA Cup 6th December 1,35 is too low a price for me to bet on. Not too low for 1X in this game, just too low in general because it means you have to wager (risk) much more. Another motivating factor for Aris is that their coach (Bayevic) was coach at Red Star last year and left the team on bad terms. I'm sure he would like to show his old employers his worth by qualifying with the most points possible while Red Star has to fight it out against Bolton.

  6. Re: UEFA Cup 6th December grubi10 - Aris is a very strong team this year, and that showed in particular in the draw vs. Bolton. For 93 minutes Aris was superior and should have walked away with all 3 points but was equalized in the last minute by Giannakopoulos (talk about ironic!) For tonight, I think Aris will have a full house chearing them on and their form is quite good (although they did lose 0-1 to AEK last round in the Greek League) I don't think this loss will affect them much and I expect a home win. A draw at the very worst, but I think Aris will take the 3 points into next Uefa game against Bayern where they'll be playing for first place. I don't think Aris will have any significant absenses, although I'll have to give a quick look to team news.

The Leverkusen game might go Over 2.5, but again, it's a risk with these group phase matches. I'll try and check back in later if I have any important info.

  8. Re: UEFA Cup 5th December Hey nicko - I don't often place bets on first round Uefa cup matches (with this new group format) due to the fact that it's a whole other ball game. Teams don't need to win by more than a goal and often times they don't. Not many teams place great weight on Uefa cup, especially if their other goals need their full attention. Anyway, I'll be on the lookout for your Serie A picks then. Anyone who can make a good profit from betting in that league really knows how to make picks, in my book.

  9. Re: UEFA Cup 5th December

AEK's priority this year is to go after the Greek league title. They want it desperately. This, of course, doesn't mean they won't accept a qualification to the next round of Uefa cup play with open arms. After all, Rivaldo and Lymperopoulos will be called upon to offer their services. AEK has been shaky as of late but last weekend's win against Aris in Salonica definitely gives AEK a boost. For this game, if you're bent on betting on it, I would suggest watching the first few minutes on TV (if you can get coverage) and placing your bet live. AEK has a tendency to show from the first few minutes whether they're really up for the challenge or whether they'll be giving a flat performance.
Mlada hit the cross bar twice in the last 10-15 minutes and AEK seemed to have pulled a rabbit out of the hat with this one. Lots of pressure from the home team, especially near the end.
  10. Re: UEFA Cup 5th December

Hello everyone. A couple of you guys mentioned about going with the Over. Keep in mind that the Uefa cup is usually not condusive to Overs in the first group stage. That's not to say that several of these games will not go Over 2.5, but many of these teams have important league matches and if they can get a goal or two against their opponent, chances are they'll hold back (whether they're already through or are looking for a chance to qualify)
7/8 Uefa cup games ended Under 2.5
  11. Re: UEFA Cup 5th December

    Anyone fancy AEK tonight?

  13. Re: UEFA Cup Matches (Dec 13-14) Postman- It's really a crazy match and a crazy group where someone might say that Osasuna could try to finish 3rd to avoid CL teams, but under the right circumstances, even Odense or Herenveen could qualify. Not sure why all that money is flying around. This game could end in a draw if Parma show up disinterested and the other match leaves Osasuna third.

  14. Re: Euro 2008 Internationals (Nov 15) Cyprus-Germany should probably go Over 2.5. Betfair is offering it at just Under 1.4. Over 3.5 is going for a price of 1.65 or more. Cyprus is not a particularly defensive team and they have shown that in their previous few matches. It may come down to an up-and-down shoot-out. I expect a few goals to be scored but wouldn't go overboard with an Over 4.5 bet. Perhaps trading out of the Over 3.5 after a couple of goals are scored is the best strategy. Lithuania was the bet of the day, at around 1.8 on Betfair. (FT 1-4) Over 2.5 was at a price of 2.04!!!

  15. Re: Champions League (Nov 1) Hi everyone- The AEK-Lille game isn't an easy one to pick. I would stay away from that game, in general. Yeah, it's likely to be an Under 2.5 and it's tempting to think that Lille will get a result, but this one is harder than meets the eye. AEK is looking for their first Champions League win at home against an equal (or slightly stronger) opponent. They will have Georgeas mark the very quick Keita which will be an intersting and important match up (a key to this game if you ask me). AEK are on an uptrend having beaten Panathinaikos last week in the Athenian derby and Sera Ferer is a coach who is getting maximum performance out of his players. AEK played relatively well against Lille in their prior CL encounter despite the result. That's not to say that AEK will win or even get a draw. Just trying to warn of any pitfalls. Good luck to all

  16. Re: Euro 2008 Qualifiers (Oct 11th)

hopefully this will come off :hope :hope :hope [Parlay] [1x2] Estonia vs Russia Russia (H)@1.180[1x2] Kazakhstan vs Finland Finland(A)@1.730[1x2] Malta vs Hungary Hungary(A)@1.250[1x2] Liechtenstein vs Denmark Denmark(A)@1.120[1x2] Ireland vs Czech Czech(A)@1.850[1x2] Azerbaijan vs Belgium Belgium (H)@1.140 :notworthy
Sounds good. Only one I'd be wary of would be Finland. Kazakhstan gave Greece a rough time last year in qualifying and in general plays a physical game. On the other hand, Finland's offense isn't perfect. Don't want to discourage you, just offering an opinion. I hope you cash in!!!
  17. Re: Euro 2008 Qualifiers (Oct 11th) davidmphill- Thanks for setting that straight (about Bellamy), you're right. Didn't he have some trouble with the law recently, though ? His mind can't be 100% on the game. Of course, sometimes something like that can make a player come out guns-blazing. So, Giggs is definitely out and Gabbidon is doubtful (although BBC news has him playing). What are your thoughts on this one? I like the over 2.5 on a trade.

  18. Re: Euro 2008 Qualifiers (Oct 11th)

word of warning - any team embarressed on satday will be dieing to avenge the result on wednesday. wales - shocking result and they must be questioning themselves. I have never rated toshack and, for me, he is a stop gap between decent welsh sides. We have home advantage and, as said above, we all know how cyprus did on satday. I think we'll gget a small home win but would not take odds lower than evens without question. I'd be looking for more 2.25. No bet. ROI - not a mug nation and before everyone jumps on the czech bandwagon, they themselves have not been firing on all cylinders - they are not quite the team we expect now and Wales were unlucky to lose there only a few weeks back - 7-0 v san marino is something that should be expected, not wowed upon. the draw seems good value here. early thoughts would be to lay croatia as england will not want to lose, even if they cannot muster the win, lay scotland as the ukraines will up their game now and they are not an easy side to play especially away and lay northern ireland who seem to prefer being underdogs - and the press are already on sanchez's back.....
I like the way you think aliando! Absolutely spot on analysis and advice. Only thing I have to add is that Scotland-Ukraine should be a turn of the roulette. I'd rather watch that one on TV than put any money on it. Really tough to try and figure out how they'll both react to their Saturday results.
  19. Re: Euro 2008 Qualifiers (Oct 11th) Wales v Cyprus - I know Wales will still be missing some key payers (Bellamy etc...). Will Giggs be missing again? This one could very well go Over 2.5. Trading the Over starting a few minutes into the game to get maximum value. This entails risking an early goal, but either way, I don't think heavy stakes can be placed on a game like this anyway.

  20. Re: euro 2008 Qualifiers (Oct 7th) England game- Definitely a good strategy since the odds are so low. Let's hope an early goal doesn't ruin it for us. Greece-Norway- I'll be surprised to see a clean win for Greece. There is some debate over the roster as coach Rehaggel has not done anything to renew it and bring in younger players. Team captain Zagorakis who is expected to retire any game now (from national team, at least) has been called back to the team even though there are a couple good replacements in the waiting (Stoltidis for instance). There was also a mid-week squable over whether Kapsis would play or not and it turns out he will not. Kapsis is a solid defensive player who has sat out most of his stay at Olympiacos due to various reasons. The Greek team does have fire-power with Samaras and Gekas up front. They only need to start converting their chances. The team lacks in finishing and seems to have dropped down a few notches since the epic Euro 2004 triumph. I expect Norway to get at least a point out of this match and would definitely avoid placing any money on this game as neither a result or an Over/Under can be predicted outright, or traded at the exchanges with any degree of certainty...but then again, what is ever certain? Maybe backing a Greece win with the expectation that they will score first can get us something out of this if we trade out. Laying a Greece win is also an option if we believe Norway will walk away with at least a point. Midfield and Defensive coverage was the strength of the Greek team. Your best bet is to watch the starting minutes of the game to see if this element is in sync (not the boy band) and then to choose a trading strategy. Tough one to call.
