  1. Re: Ireland > Airtricity Premier League > 2013 Limerick - Shelbourne Pick: 3.35 @Pinnacle After spending years in the division 1, Limerick won the division last season posing a (9-1-4) home performance and gained promotion to the Premier League where they've given a good account of themselves as they are currently at the 7th position and have no scare of going back to the league 1. Prior last match, their ability to amass 10 out of the last available 12 points soar the team high including a 2-0 home win over Shamrock and a 1-2 away win over Dundalk. Due to injury and suspension, coupled with an already comfortable spot, team however will have to do without many starters and younger players will be given opportunities to impress today: Shane Tracy (Mf 22/6), Danny Galbraith (Mf 27/0) and Stephen McGann (Mf 3/0) remain out while Stephen Folan (Df 30/1) and Samuel Oji (Df 6/0) are suspended, but Stephen Bradley (Mf 24/0) returns. The line-up today will see 19-year-old Barry Sheedy (Att 7/0) who has played around 90 minutes over the last two games and 17-year-old centre-half Tony Whitehead (Mf 1/0) – who made his competitive first- team debut from the bench in Sunday’s 1-0 defeat at Bray Wanderers amidst some other young lads. Cork City weren't any way easy for the struggling guests (Shelbourne) last match and despite Shelbourne could repeat their highest no. of goals so far in the season, they could not match the firepowers of Cork City who were 5 goals better spearheaded by their in-form Ciaran Kilduff. Prior that match, Cork's coach in a respect tone wouldn't see Shelbourne been relegated, quoting the wealth of experience their managers (Mick Byrne was appointed as Assistant manager to Johnny McDonnell in early June 2013) have as they know the league in-and out. Shelbourne still have five on the long term absentee list due to injury - Glenn Cronin (Mf 12/0), Brian Shortall (Df 20/1), Mark Leech (Att 17/1) and Jack Memery (Df 15/0), though Crowley (Mf 9/0) has now returned to training but not fully match fit. Suspended are Robert Bayly (Mf 17/0) who is serving the second of a two week suspension having been red-carded against Derry City and Sean Brennan (Mf 28/2), due to accumulation of yellow cards. Limerick are beginning to play relaxed and lost last match on travel to Bray (1-0) who are another relegation struggler while Shelbourne are fighting for their lives and anything other than a win will see them stay in the league and are expected to have at least easier task against young lads.

  2. Re: Africa for beginners!!! Ethiopia - Nigeria Pick: X, 3.5 @bet 365 1 - 1, 7.2 @youwin On paper, this fixture looks the most unbalance going by the expected class differnence. Ethiopia have improved a lot since the last time they played at the AFCON this year. Their strength and team work is what I admire a lot. Nigeria met with Ethiopia in a dicey situation at the AFCON and it was Moses's darting runs and brilliance that ensured Nigeria were better from two penalties. Ethiopians were shaky but played nice for most part of the game and anyway gave 'respect' for the 'giant of Africa'. Ethiopia posed great results at the qualifiers winning their last two matches by 2-1 having to cme from a goal behind in the two matches (South Africa were in a 'must-win' quest but lost 2-1 when they visited Ethiopia, won troubled CAR who had to play their home matches away). They won four out of Six of their qualifier matche and only a 3-point deduction by FIFA made their qualification a bit sterner. Expectations of fans in the high-altitude country is high and most are expecting an upset in this match. Coach Sewnet Bishaw will be without forward Getaneh Kebede who is probably their best player, missing with a nagging ankle injury. Saladin Said Ahmed is set to spearhead the attack in Kebede's absence after Ahmed, like Kebede, scored four of Ethiopia's eight goals in qualifying from Group A. Nigeria decided to fly a day before this match so as to cushion the altitude effect but they also have to play against the Ethipians 12th man and the home advantage which is notable in African football. Nigeria are playing some nice football at the moment; strings of passes are beginning to articulate and character is been built in the team. Team is studded with player plying their trade in Europe as Chelsea man Mikel Obi dictates the pace for Nigeria matche, often creatively calming match tempos. Ambrose and Echiejile are quality defenders who often overlap to support the attack and the attack is where any coach will have positive problem of who to field; Ahmed Musa (CSKA Moscow, Russia); Brown Ideye (Dynamo Kyiv, Ukraine); Shola Ameobi (Newcastle United, England); Emmanuel Emenike (Fenerbahce FC, Turkey); Obinna Nsofor (Lokomotiv Moscow, Russia); Uche Nwofor (SC Heerenveen, Netherlands). One man certain of starting in attack is powerful and consistent Emmanuel Emenke. Going by previous squads, coach Keshi can count on his best for this match. Keshi had declared that anything other than a defeat will be a bad result for Nigeria and from experience usually plays for draw under this circumstance. Ethiopians team might largely contain home nationals but are greatly fancying their chance and have put all hands on deck. A tactical game is expected in one which I expect Nigeria to be more on the receiving end, probably after squaring in the game will have to defend in mass; 1-1.

  3. Re: Ireland > Airtricity Premier League > 2012 Sorry this is coming very late... Cork City are in nice run of football result; they've particularly made their home form a fortress, been on the back of three consecutive league home wins, already surpassing last season where they could only win 1/3 of their home matches. The battle for sixth place is City’s priority, and speaking ahead of the game, first team Coach Billy Woods have shed lights: “From a Cork City point of view, we would like to finish the season as high up the table as possible. At the moment this looks to be sixth and a straight battle between us and Limerick which has developed over the past number of weeks. A resilient performance saw the team pick up a crucial point in Sligo.” Dan Murray (Df 20/0) misses the game through suspension and Kevin Murray (Df 5/0) is injured while Darren Dennehy (Df 10/0) has returned to full training following his foot injury, and is in contention for a place in the squad Mick Byrne was appointed as Assistant manager to Johnny McDonnell in early June 2013 for Shelbourne. Both are with wealth of experience and know the Ireland League in-and-out. The move helped the side till early August where they lost just one out of their 7 matches. Thereafter, injury began to knock in the team and opponents were in better conditions to meet. Shelbourne have now failed to win in their last 8 matches, drawing 2 in the process. Their last match was a 3-1 loss on travel to Derry City in a match greeted with several controversy largely against the visitors. Glenn Cronin (Mf 12/0), Paul Crowley (Mf 9/0), Brian Shortall (Df 20/1), Mark Leech (Att 17/1) and Jack Memery (Df 15/0) are long term injured while Derek Doyle (Mf 10/1) will be given a fitness test close to kick-off time. Both Robert Bayly (Mf 17/0) and Brian Gannon (Df 5/0) are suspended, having been red-carded at the Brandywell last Friday. Cork City are coming from a morale boosting result on travel to Sligo Rovers and are keen to replicate a positive result on their home ground where they're enjoying three consecutive victories while Shelbourne are seeking to leave the relegation zone and are beginning to play nice football in their last two matches, losing their last match in a controversial circumstance. The current situation calls for a football spectacle.

  4. Re: League 1 > 8th - 14th September COVENTRY - GILLINGHAM PICK: Over 3.25 @2.29 Pinnacle Coventry ought to be on 11 points if not for 10 points deduction due administration, also forcing them to play their home matches on Nothampton's ground where they've well scoring 11 goals freely. The side have been helped by relatively easy schedule so far as they're yet to meet any potential top-three teams IMO. One message though is clear: the Steven Pressely men have goals in their legs and also could only keep a clean sheet last time when they welcomed Colchester. Midfielders Conor Thomas (6/0) and Adam Barton (1/0) are doubts for featuring. Otherwise, the hosts boast of a complete squad including Callum Wilson (8 goals), Leon Clarke (4 goals) and Billy Daniels (3 goals). Gillingham are league one strugglers; they're yet to cope with the league and are winless so far after their first 6 matches, failing to keep a clean sheet and have scored an average of 1 goal per match. Gillingham aren't playing too poorly; they play defensively shaky, concedes lately and wastes couple of chances. Gillingham midfielder Charlie Lee (6/0) serves a one - match ban while centre-back Leon Legge (6/1) is a doubt. Right-back Michael Harriman (4/0) is back after international duty with Northern Ireland Under-21s, while Matt Fish (1/0) is a long-term absentee. The team has goals in the legs of Adebayo Akinfenwa (2 goals) and Danny Kedwell (2 goals) Both defence have proven shaky in previous rounds of matches; Coventry are gradually unwinding their quest to recover from the 10 points deduction while Gillingham will be playing to get their first win in the league in what should wear an entertaining duel.

  5. Re: Capital One Cup > Tue 27th August Burton - Fulham Pick: Over 2.75 Burton are in a fine scoring form with 5 goals in last two league matches; got to this stage by winning 2-1 over Sheffield, and will be looking at establishing that yet again when they welcome a Premiership side - Fulham who will be keen on seeking redemption with a win after showing defensive shakyness in their 3-1 loss to Arsenal.

  6. I have written several times about the huge expectation from Mamelodi Sundowns this season. They have spent money to recoup a good squad. Coming from the back of two good results in the second half of the league, now it seems they have started gelling. They can still make the top 4 position if they maintain the rythm. They are the team of the moment in SFL with Mphela, Laffor, Mushekwi all on-song and are constantly posing threat to defence lines. In their last two matches, I hadn't given them much chance, but they proved me wrong. At home, they held league leader Kaizers Chief to barren, and in their last match away to Martizburg, they thumped them 3-0 despite the fact that home advantage do count in the two team's meeting and besides, Martizburg had looked more fortified with the return of other two regular players. Golden Arrows are coming from a disappointing 1-0 loss when they welcomed Amazulu. It was a KZN derby where Amazulu usually had the better share and the last one was no different. Perhaps bookies thought Arrow might consolidate on the confidence they got from their first away victory and translate that into that match against Amazulu, hence making them favourite. For the sake of this pick, one thing to note however is that several chances were missed, goalkeepers superbly rosed to the occasion and Arrow's ball came off the the crossbar just two minutes after Amazulu's goal. On travel to the yellow nation however, coach of the arrows Maqoba Mangqithi should fancy their chance. Ironically, arrows began to play more confident on travel. They've been scoring comfortably and yet forget their defence lines too often. They've scored 8 goals and conceeded 11goals in their last 4 matches on travel. It could be hard to know which side of Mamelodi Sundowns shows up today, but their is some quantum leap of confidence in the team after their resounding away victory. Golden arrow will come here fancying their chance as well in other to amend their last derby loss. So I feel we'd see goals. Pick: Mamelodi Sundowns & Over 2.5 goals
