  1. Re: Arsenal v Aston Villa - Sat 17th August

Fancy Benteke to hit the ground running here' date=' on a pleasant day out at the Emirates that Villa will fancy. Villa got a draw on the opening day in the first ever Prem game at the Emirates. If Villa score first the Arsenal fans will get even more restless than usual, and with the transfer window still open it wouldn't shock me if some of them start praying for a result that would shock Arsene into action. Villa finished the season strongly and it looked like they were really coming together as a unit, I think the value is with Villa here.[/quote'] :D Nice bit of profit to start the season!

  3. Re: Grand National 4.15pm, Your 1 selection for the race, plus News and Charity theme

Good lad for doing this mate. Major Malarkey. Got it in the sweep. It sadly fits my secret national criteria of "if you can't imagine the commentator calling it home, it won't win"
ha ha I've often used this reasoning to pick my horse for this race, has never helped me though. Any Currency is my pick for this.
  4. Re: Aston Villa v Manchester City > Mon 4th March I swear every Prem match thread someone suggests over 2.5 goals and BTTS. :lol As described above, Villa will on average be the more motivated team in this situation. I think I'll play a small stake on Villa+draw double chance. Only slight draw back is Spurs are closing in on Man City, which might give them a bit of an extra kick. Odds are long on Villa though and Man Utd were 1.50 to win at VP earlier this season which shows how poor these odds for City are.

  5. Re: Group E > Dec 5th (Shakhtar, Juventus, Chelsea, FC Nordsjaelland)

Yes' date=' true. The only scenario which would take anyone between Mexico and Uruguay out, was a big French victory vs. South Africa. And the winner and only goal for Uruguay took place in the last few minutes. At that moment France was losing 3-0 to SA. So, I don't think that this example is very relevant. Maybe if Chelsea are losing 0-3 to Nordseeland by the 75th minute, Juve and Shakhtar may give it a go.[/quote'] No, Suarez scored for Uruguay in the first half. And a big win for South Africa against France could have put SA through as well. My main point that the draw tonight shouldn't be as low as 1.90 as it has gone down to now. These things are never that certain. In my example either Mexico or Uruguay could have gone out. Shakhtar are already through and even if the win the group they could still face Real Madrid in the next round.
  6. Re: Manchester City v Manchester United > Sun 9th December For this game I am selecting Man Utd to score first @2.10 (StanJames) Man Utd have often conceded first this season, but in a lot of the tough/big games they have scored first and were out of the blocks fast- Chelsea away, Arsenal at home, Newcastle away. They haven't really faced a big team in the Champions League yet. I think Man Utd will go for the throat from the start, I think the players and fans still feel the pain of the 2 derby defeats last season, particularly the 1-6 at OT, and also the way they lost the league to that last gasp Aguero goal. I am also staking a smaller amount on Y. Toure last goalscorer @ 11.00 (StanJames). As explained above, I think there is a decent chance Man Utd will be leading going into the later stages of the match and Toure will inevitably be pushed forward. He has a record of scoring in big games.

  7. Re: Group E > Nov 7 (Shakhtar, Juventus, Chelsea, FC Nordsjaelland)

That is indeed very impressive' date=' and actually they are now unbeaten in 18 winning 17. Nevertheless, let's not forget that [b']Chelsea didn't lose at Stanford Bridge for 86 matches, a record run that spanned four years and eight months, until their recent 2-3 loss to ManUtd, in which they conceded the 2-3 goal whilst playing 9 vs 11 - a record almost, if not even more, extraordinary. To sum up, two great teams with high CL aspirations will play in what is for me the game to watch of all matchday 4 games. Attacking threats in both squads, Shakhtar with a full squad, Ashley Cole ruled out for Chelsea - this has the potential to be a tantalizing fixture. As Mircea Lucescu states "I prepare my players knowing very well that absolutely all teams can be beaten – even Chelsea at home" Taking all this into account I will go with Both teams to score at 1.61 with bet365. Good luck!
Just off the top of my head Chelsea lost to Villa and Liverpool at Stamford Bridge last season.
  8. Re: Aston Villa v Manchester United > Saturday 10th November

Without doing too much research I can say that Man.United haven't lost to Aston Villa since somewhere back in 80's if I am correct.
Villa won 1-0 at OT a few seasons back, Gabby Agbonlahor scored. That's the last home Prem game that Man Utd have failed to score in I think. Man Utd do have a supreme record though against Villa, and especially at Villa Park. VP is also a ground where they have won 2 FA Cup semi-finals against Arsenal including THAT Ryan Giggs goal. I think 1.61 is value for a Man Utd win but I just checked and the highest odds I can find is 1.54
  9. Re: Swansea v Chelsea > Saturday 3rd November

Don't know if you watched the whole City v Swansea game or just the highlights Aidymac :eek It was more a case of City playing safe, boring, little chances created type of game rather than good Swans defending.. Though Swansea did create few nice opportunities, they don't have a quality goalscorer, for all the possession and chances they manufacture. First choice GK Vorm is out for quite a while, so I can't see the home side keeping a clean sheet against a wounded animal in Chelsea next week.. I think Chelsea have more than enough quality to take points from this game, Torres is no big miss. I will do a more detailed write-up, but Chelsea win around 1.8 is good value IMO
Doesn't Torres only have a 1 match domestic suspension, which is for tonight's Cup game?
  10. Re: Sunderland v Villa > Saturday 3rd November Sunderland 1 win in their last 16 Prem games, which include a load of draws. Villa also 1 win in their last 16 Prem games, also with a fair few draws. Has draw written all over it. I would take Villa, draw no bet just because the odds are significantly longer on Villa (even considering home advantage for Sunderland). After Villa beat Man City in the last round of the Cup they came out and got a battling draw against in form West Brom. Should be enthused in a similar way after a late winner following a 2 goal Swindon comeback. Sunderland limped out of the Cup in a local derby against Middlesboro. Arguably that was a bigger game for them, especially with MON's love for the League Cup. Not sure how badly they will want to win this, knowing it will take more than a win at home against Villa to make up for last night.

  11. Re: Aston Villa v Norwich City > Oct 27 Have to agree with you Jase. I think Norwich will be more motivated, as they have a bunch of players who recently played for Lambert. Villa only have one person who would really like to get one over on Norwich and that is Lambert himself. Sure, he will try and pass the feeling on to the Villa players but Hughton won't even have to say anything to get Norwich fired up.
