  1. Re: World Cup 2010: Matches ( 05/06/07-10/11 09 2008 ) George Burley gets his Scotland reign under way for real this weekend in his first competitive game, against a tricky Macedonian side. He will be more than happy being drawn in the smallest qualifying group (Group 9 contains only five teams) but there’s no room for slip ups. Scotland welcome back Celtic’s Shaun Maloney and Birmingham’s Garry O’Connor. They are in need of the extra firepower, following a disappointing 0-0 draw with Northern Ireland. Srecko Katanec’s side are slowly improving. In Lazio’s Goran Pandev they have a goalscorer used to playing at the top level. A 0-0 draw with England and 2-0 win over Croatia in the Euro 2008 qualifiers show they’re more than capable of causing an upset. George Burley may be looking for three points to kick off the World Cup campaign but a draw may not look too bad on the final table. I predict draw with small stakes.

  2. Re: UEFA - Super Cup ( 29 08 2008 ) This should be an interesting match as we will see two teams that play attacking football, and their last year success is another proof of their quality. Both coaches will take this game seriously, and they will probably field strong line ups. Ferguson will give the chance to some players to gain some match practice, as a lot of them are now ready to play after being absent during recent weeks. Zenit had a busy schedule lately, and we are to see if that has tired the players. Pogrebnyak is back, while new signing Danny may play his first game for the club. It still remains to be seen if Advocaat will play Arshavin, who is still amidst transfer speculations. Both teams play attacking football, and we are certainly to see some goals. Over 2,5 for me.

  3. Re: Romania - 29 Aug - 1 Sep At first sight, I would choose Otelul DNB, CFR (-1.5) and Craiova X2. Vaslui will be tired after their UEFA game, and Otelul is a tough nut to crack at home. CFR wants to escape from the bad form as soon as possible, and this game against a relegation contender is the best occasion to do it and finally, Dinamo comes after a disappointing game (the lost derby against Rapid) and Craiova has many young guns eager for glory - to beat Dinamo is like winning CL for them - also do not forget last year result from this game when Craiova was very near to a win in Bucharest, the game ending in a spectacular 4-4.

  4. Re: UEFA Cup - 28.08.2008 Aston Villa is in a good form despite the loss to Stoke, and they continue to score with ease. They have shown in Iceland that there will be no surprises, and now manager O’Neill can afford to rest some players and still win the game against weak team from Iceland. Hafnarfjordur is focused on league campaign as they are aware that they stand no chances of qualifying. They will try to concede as little as possible, but I believe that there still will be lots of goals. Over 3,5 goals for me, with 4/10 stake.

  5. Re: UEFA Cup - 28.08.2008 Deportivo was the clear favourite before the first leg, and they dominated the game throughout, but could not create any clear chances and the game ended a draw. Spanish La Liga hasn’t started yet, and that could be the reason for the under par performance. Depor still has a very strong squad, and they will look to make things right in the second leg. Hajduk had some problems before the game in La Coruna, as they lost their league game 3:0, and the atmosphere in the team was not the greatest. Hajduk’s form is not very consistent, but they managed to play a good game at the Riazor, and earned a draw against more illustrious opponent. They will probably employ the same defensive strategy, despite playing at home, and according to last reports from Split, the stadium will be sold out. Deportivo will be a lot fitter in this game, as they should be ready for the start of the season in Spain. The visitors have very good squad of players, and they just need some time to start playing as expected. AW for 7/10 stakes.

  6. Re: Champions League: 26th & 27th August 2008 Olympiakos have lost 0-3 in Cyprus and they get -2 now. Sure they have a better squad I do agree with that, but there's a lot of pressure on their shoulders at the same time. They can say good-bye to CL stages should they concede as they'd be uspposed to score 5 times which is not so easy. 3-0 is not the real picture of the first leg, the Greeks have had their chances and missed'em all, and will be surely looking to bounce back in a way or another but Anorthosis didn't look so poor to get this price for qualification considering they have a 3 goals edge. Olympiakos have got their best results in Europe at home and are known for their power when playing in front of their fans, however they've been getting those results as underdogs, when they could exploit on counters and set back in defence. Against Anorthosis it will be more difficult as it's not so easy to score against a side who'll probably defend with 10 men in their box AND stay safe at the back meanwhile. The Cypriots looked dangerous when crossing the ball from the wings two weeks ago, if they can get a chance like this I think they might produce a goal. Nevertheless I think +2 is not as good as the qualification price, worse odds but much better chances for that, greater value in my view. So, take Anorthosis to qualify, full stakes for me.
