  1. Re: Rugby World Cup 2011 I just hope Alain Rolland doesn't get any of the finals.... he's abysmal. Agree with the general sentiments though, the sooner they sort scrums out the better. I think we'll see NZ vs England in the final. Australia are a solid unit but their scrum is horrendous. Unless they get very lucky with reffing calls I can see them losing to England or France in the knockout stages. Realistically I think the tournament is NZ's to lose, the pressure and expectation will be enormous, an upset loss in the semis wouldn't surprise me.

  2. I wish I'd read this page yesterday. Good work lads. Definitely can't see a draw in this one, England will have their work cut out knocking India over today who should have a nice lead after the first dig. England will have to bat well to set the Indians a decent target on a pitch that might turn benign on the last couple of days.

  3. Re: Wrimc's Boxing Bets -£16.41 I went with Fury to win and Judah by stoppage. The Fury pick was based entirely on the weigh-in, I'm not as anti-Fury as many seem to be, and seeing Chisora over 260 on the scales made up my mind. Judah :wall why, why, why did I convince myself he could do it, when he's not legitimately beaten a top class opponent since the fight with Spinks. Matthysse beat him, and he struggled a bit with Mabuza before getting the stoppage. Hopefully that's the last we see of him.

  4. Re: Cricket: England vs India Test Series Dravid played superbly yesterday, one of the forgotten great batsmen of any era. The rest of the players were a bit slapdash, Tendulkar played well before getting out..... England bowled really well, getting the ball on the right length and letting the pitch do the work. For India, Sharma bowled horrendously in the first dig, too short, then too wide etc etc - if he pulls his finger out they've half a chance of knocking them over. Realistically though it's about the declaration, then over to Swann. Like the commentators have just said, the deck is getting flatter for the seamers, which helps India.

  5. Re: 2011 Boxing Thread Well, I said I had a feeling for an upset..... wouldn't have predicted that at all :lol With the exception of a brief moment in the 7th round Tarver completely dominated Green en route to a corner stoppage at the end of the 9th round. Missed opportunity there :@

  6. Re: 2011 Boxing Thread According to someone ''in the know'' it was pretty much common knowledge amongst insiders that Cook was f**ked and had no chance of winning. Obviously lots of them lumped on the early stoppage, which explains the eventual suspension of markets on that fight. Nobody can say anything though because Frank Warren will start with the libel immediately.

  7. Re: 2011 Boxing Thread Lee Purdy vs Craig Watson Purdy to win 2/1 Various This seems a generous bet to me, Watson was winning their initial fight until the knockout, so unless he gets caught again logic says that Watson ought to win this comfortably. But - he was embarrassed in sparring by Ronnie Heffron last week, who has only had five pro fights. Apparently his trainer called it off, drove him back to the gym and hammered him for another couple of hours. It's not worth putting in your accumulators but well worth a small bet on the side.

  8. I don't fancy Ricky for a stoppage..... Cook looks alright I think and always has good stamina. Burns will throw a lot of leather, if he works the body I can see a stoppage but he'll be cautious early I think, by which time Cook will have warmed up. Good luck.

  9. Re: Wrimc's Boxing Bets +£34.07

Bute Mendy round betting looks the way to go its a complete mismatch but again looks like I will be missing out on that:@ I think I will be going for Murray 7-12 but need to sit down and have a proper look. For Wlad I will probably just go outright if the odds come in enough. Again need to sit down and have a proper think with regards to it but if I can't decide the odds are still good enough to just lump on Wlad outright.
Bute vs Mendy was the predictable mismatch, won a nice lump on 1-6 at evens. Haye vs Klitschko let me down, had Wlad in 7-12 and thought at one point he was going to press the action a bit more and get David out of there, wasn't to be.
Been away so was unable to post selections for Haye Klitschko and a few other fights but will be straight back into it now. There are a few decent fights before the end of the season so lets see if we can make a bit more profit :hope I will do a bit of a research this evening and write up my picks for this weekend :ok
    How's the liver? :beer
16/07/11 Kevin Mitchell v John Murray Pick: Murray 8-12 or points 7/4 @ Skybet Stake: £15 This eagerly awaited domestic clash has divided opinion in boxing circles. Murray holds the longest unbeaten record in British boxing but has yet to really step up his opposition beyond domestic/Euro level. Mitchell was a highly touted youngster but ran into a few injury problems and his career stalled, he came back and beat Breidis Prescott who inflicted Amir Khan's solitary loss he was then however crushed in three rounds by Autralian pressure fighter Michael Katsidis. He has been out of the ring for 14 months since that fight and is being thrown in at the deep end. Murray is also a pressure fighter though not on the level of Katsidis and probably doesn't possess the same punch he can wear fighters down. Mitchell has a good dig and showed against Prescott he can box and move. It all rests upon the sort of condition Mitchell comes in at and with rumours of problems making the weight and other problems outside of the ring you have to wonder if he will be fully focused. I think that Mitchell may have some early success but Murray will be cutting the ring down and keep coming hitting Mitchell with shots which will take their toll, he doesn't have the one punch power to take Mitchell out early but could wear him down for a stoppage, depending in what shape and mindset Mitchell comes in with he might be able to last the distance. As a result I think that the bet offered by Skybet is great value.
I can't see Mitchell winning either.... Palmer thinks Mitchell will dominate which sways me even more in Murray's direction. Your bet looks tempting.
16/07/11 Marco Huck v Hugo Hernan Garay Pick: Huck on points 2.56 @Betfair Stake:£10 Huck has been a busy fighter since acquiring his belt at the tail end of 09 he has fought for his title seven times. This will be his 8th world title fight his previous world title fights 3 have been knockouts whilst four have gone to points. Huck has a crude but effective brawling style that means he can overpower and dominate lesser opponents. This style however is not as effective at knocking out opponents who are or have operated at a decent level. Garay is a tough Argentine who has learnt his trade though he was recently knocked out at light heavyweight in 1 round by Chris Henry (a noted puncher) there was some controversy around the manner of the knockout. Garay has been in with a decent class of light heavyweights such as Braehmer Erdei Campillo and Lakatos and gone the distance or stopped them. Though he is coming up in weight and the fight is in Germany I expect the tough Argentine to have enough skills to last the course but lose a wide decision on points and at these odds it is certainly worth a punt.
Agreed. I'll have that. ----------------------------------- Nice little acca..... Bute stoppage (won already) Gavin KO Bellew KO Burns points Murray win paid around 12/1 :hope If you're at the Echo on Saturday and fancy meeting me, Dan684, NO MAS and Gaz (if Dan can pursuade him to meet :lol) for a pint give us a shout.
  10. Re: 2011 Boxing Thread The longer Bellew tries to stay at 175 the shorter career he'll have. He's pretty much bone dry at that weight, I spoke with his former trainer on Tuesday who said that he could easily move up to cruiser and carry his power up with him..... would help him take a better shot too. Apparently he was never down as an amateur, fighting at 200lbs, yet down four times in 15 fights at 175. Tells it's own story. He's as skilled as anyone in the gym, I've seen it at first hand, but for some reason loses his composure in the ring and tries to bang people out with every punch and gets caught with silly shots. His footwork is excellent, he's got the full range of shots and KO power in both hands. Just needs to calm down and listen to his corner.

  11. Re: 2011 Boxing Thread I'm going mate, should be good. Still can't believe there's been no pullouts, but still time I guess. Went to see Frankie Gavin train last night, he was in top form. Woodhouse is in for a tough time on Saturday. I've gone with an accy.... Bellew KO Gavin KO Murray win Burns pts Paid around 12/1 when I put it on with Boyles and is similar elsewhere, might be shorter now. Going with Murray KO makes it 17/1 if you fancy.

  12. Re: Cricket: West Indies vs India - Test Series

I agree. Gibson needs to do one as well. If they can stick Gayle and Bravo in then a top 7 of Gayle, Barath, Simmons, Darren Bravo, Shiv, Dwayne Bravo and Baugh is not bad then there's the likes of Sarwan, Samuels, Edwards, Nash and even Devon Smith if they are desperate backing them up. Not overly convinced Sammy is the right choice for captain either. If they could find a way for Daren Ganga to get back in it could prove dividends as he's the best captain in the Caribbean by a distance. All in all though there's definitely something there and in the next 2-3 years a half decent side might come out of it all :hope.
Yeah, Ganga is an excellent captain, trouble is he's only really good enough to average 20 in Tests. Sammy isn't a bad captain in ODI's, but isn't worth his place in the side..... whereas in Tests he's a decent first change bowler and #8. I've no idea why a Michael Holding or Jimmy Adams couldn't take over the running of the WICB and sort the mess out. Then again, we can't say much with Giles Clarke in charge, can't stand him at all :lol
  13. Re: Cricket: West Indies vs India - Test Series That's bizarre. I traded India at around 5/2 then laid at 4/7, thinking they might have a go in the last ten overs but fancied having a punt on some football so needed the bankroll. Not impressed at all with them chucking it in before the last hour. They need to scrap this crappy rule and just play the match to it's conclusion. As for the series as a whole, I think the West Indies have some light at the end of the tunnel, but the board has got to go. Get Gayle and Bravo back in the side and they'll have a half decent team. I worry for their batting though.

  14. Re: 2011 Boxing Thread Another Bute fight... another predictable mismatch. Mendy proved to be exactly as I imagined, absolutely terrible. Shouldn't have been in there with Bute, who is becoming a laughing stock with all these tomato cans he keeps facing. Unlucky with the Rios bet, I fancied a stoppage but left it alone ultimately.

  15. Re: Cricket: Friends Life t20

5 PTS Middlesex Vs Surrey 1st 6 overs - Surrey 6/5 StanJames Same reasoning as my other bet really. They have the quality at the top of the order in Roy, Davies and Hamilton-Brown to hit Middlesex for a few runs at the start of this match. Expect them to also keep it tight in the feild as they are really struggling to make up the runs. 8/13 with other bookmakers show the value on this bet again.
I wouldn't worry about this one.... Surrey scored 63. :ok
stan james went first ball a dot 8/11 yes evs no it was a wide then a dot, they class the wd as a non dot?
It might be the first legal delivery that counts.... not sure about that one TBH.
  16. Re: Cricket: England vs Sri Lanka T20 International & ODI Series

Rashid' date=' Bresnan, Shahzad. No Yorkshire bias at all then :lol[/quote'] :rollin Didn't realise until you posted that reply ;) To be honest, Broad shouldn't be in the side, nor should Anderson on current form. I'll gladly listen to alternatives for Bresnan and Shahzad, but Rashid needs to be in there. Why we picked Yardy instead of him for the WC I've no idea.
  17. Re: Npower Championship > Ante-Post 2011-12 Season He might, and good luck to him. It's just another example of a British player being overpriced, that's all. As for the ground, I'd rather play somewhere that opposition teams dreaded coming to, whether it be change rooms that are crap, tight pitch etc - it's definitely a leveller. Look how teams like Southampton did in their old ground, once they moved to the nice, characterless meccano set (that seems to be all new grounds) results began to drop off. I much prefer these old grounds anyway, rather than the tin, concrete and glass things that are popping up everywhere.
