  1. Re: Sky Bet League 2 > Boxing Day Burton V Northampton is a tough game to predict, Boothroyd was sacked after the Wycombe game. Over the whole Boothroyd reign we played appallingly negative tactics away from home and that had a big impact on our struggle for points away from home, usually we just don't look in it until we go behind. With Boothroyd gone now and a much improved squad on the start of the season, we may well actually go for it today so for me this has to be no bet. As bad as we are, I feel like anything could happen today.

  2. Re: Sky Bet League 2 > October 4th & 5th

Found another little gem. AFC Wimbledon are 4 from 4 at home and lie in 7th place where Northampton are 2nd bottom and have lost 4 from 4 away from home. You would have to think surely another home win is on the cards here so EVENS looks pretty generous IMO
Unfortunately, this looks like a fairly ominous defeat for us. Like you say, Wimbledon are going well and we have not been great. Our away record at the moment stands at 5-8-18 from the last 31 (was as far back as I could see easily). On top of the fact we have 4 losses from 4 away games this season, we haven't actually scored a single goal away from home AND we lost two strikers to injury before last weekends game. We only have one senior striker fit and the only other fit striker in our squad is 17/18 years old. As football goes, we will probably somehow nick a victory from somewhere today just to confuse everyone, but I'd say that 1.95 (bet365) for a home win as it now stands is an absolute gift.
  3. Re: League 2 > Sat 5th January

Port Vale v Plymouth Argyle-NB (Steering clear of this, Vale lost at home to Fleetwood last time out and may be down on confidence, especially at a price of 1.66. Meanwhile Plymouth have just sacked Fletcher and teams frequently dont lose there next game after sacking a manager. Nothing to see here) MY ACTUAL bet of the weekend. Port Vale @ 1.72 - Bet365 Rochdale @ 1.83 - Bet365 York/Exeter - both teams to score. @ 1.61 - Bet365 3x £5 Singles. (Treble @ 5.11)
Saddlerrad I'm confused as to why you say to steer clear of Port Vale but then mention you have placed a single on them AND put them in a treble? Anyway, my recommendation for this weekend is Northampton Town @2.5 with Bet365. The cobblers, who have one of the better home records throughout this season come into this game with the second best home form in the league and their games on the 26th and 29th were postponed causing a mini winter break. Clarke Carlisle is likely to return to the side after missing the previous game due to a transfer technicality while Luke Guttridge is also likely to continue his own return from injury which should take some strain of the exceptional youngster Lewis Hornby. Town very rarely struggle to score with the likes of Akinfenwa upfront, but this season Ben Tozer has also emerged as a bit of a long throw specialist which has been very effective, especially at home games. Fleetwood have a great away record, but I struggle to see them getting anything from this game against a side that is pushing hard to get into the playoff spaces. The return of Carlisle, Guttridge and other who return to training on Monday will not only provide a boost to the squad akin to the 'they're like a new signing' cliche, but it should also cause an increase in competition for places.
  4. Re: FA Cup > 12th November - 15th November Having seen York in the flesh recently (1-1 v Northampton Town) and looking at other results, I just don't think they have enough to beat AFC Wimbledon tonight. They went 1-0 up against Northampton and even once Northampton had a man sent of they never looked convincing. They do have several tricky, skillfull midfielders/strikers, but once they get in and around the box they just don't seem very dangerous. They haven't scored more than one goal a game in the last 5 and despite what everyone says about AFC not being overly excited about a possible tie against MK Dons in the next round I don't expect them to throw away a possible cup run for that reason only. AFC Wimbledon @ 2.37 - Bet365

  5. Re: Midweek > League 2 > March 20th

I believe tonight we will record our first win this year. Now Pesch has gone I expect Rowett to play 4-4-2 which served us well earlier in the season' date=' I cannot understand why Pesch persisted with one upfront all the time. With the recall of Greg Pearson from Crewe, and Derby loaning us back Adam Legzdins who was our keeper last season, this might be the kick up the arse the squad needs. Only worry is former striker Shaun Harrod may come back to haunt us again as he has in the past. I think the 2.76 on offer at Betfair is quite good.[/quote'] Harrod plays for Bury in League 1 now, so it'd be pretty epic if he did.
  6. Re: Italy - Serie A - 7-8 January Udinese -1: 2.25 @ Bwin I really cannot see Cesena scoring here. They have scored the least goals in Serie A while Udinese have conceded the least in the league. When I have watched them this year I have noticed that Udinese seem to be able to up a gear when they need to against weaker teams and while I doubt they will run wild I think Udinese have the attacking firepower to cover this handicap with ease.

  7. Re: England > FA Cup 3rd round > Fri 6/1- Mon 9/1

Jumping on Aston Villa -1 @ 2.05 Bwin :nana I like the team selection McLeish has put out. I also have first hand experience of how bad a poor League 2 team can be (Northampton fan) so I can't see any other result than a convincing villa win here. Villa may have been inconsistent, however they have had tough games recently, Liverpool, Arsenal and Stoke away so I think they can pull through this with ease.
Brad Guzan :notworthy I thought that c:@:@t Richard Dunne had done me over there for a second.

  9. Re: England > Weekend > Premier League > 30 Dec-1 Jan For those of you concerned, Gerrard will be starting on the bench. Combine that with the recent history of Liverpool draws, Carrol starting, and a midfield of Henderson, Adam, Downing and Spearing and I think Newcastle have a great chance here. Basically I'm expecting Liverpool to struggle to score and despite the fact they are at home and have the best defense in the league I can still see they may struggle with Ba's ridiculous form. Newcastle +1 2.55 @ Bwin.

  10. Re: England > Weekend > League 2 > 10 September

Hi' date=' any thoughts about Torquay game, such big price... Northampton are very poor this season at all, 4 losses at home till 10 days, while Torquay have 2 wins and a draw away from home... any team news or what, if anyone has an opinion please write it , TY :)[/quote'] We had a great comeback from 2-0 down last weekend away. Lots of new signings still settling in and we look great going forward with Jacobs and Young. Lots of creativity and Bayo providing endess strength. However, as has been the case for the past few seasons we are still leaking goals. We have conceded 2 or more in all of our last 6 games (one was Wolverhampton Wanderers) and 4 of them have been home games. There seems to be lots of fighting spirit, but we just don't have the quality at the back. Not much I know about team selection today other than Mckoy is suspended.
  11. Re: Carling Cup > 23-25 August Northampton Town v Wolverhampton Wanderers Over the past 3 seasons in the Carling Cup the cobblers have beaten the likes of Bolton, Reading, Liverpool and Ipswich (this seasons R1). In addition to that we also lost to Sunderland on penalties. Based on that the club has a recent history of giant killing. Hopes are pretty high having had in influx of new talent and we have looked respectable so far this season. This is our first home Carling Cup tie in 3 years and therefore it's expected we should see a very good crowd for the visit of the premier league side which will hopefully create a good atmosphere. Wolves are currently sitting 2nd in the premier league (maybe 3rd in a few minutes) having beaten Blackburn away and Fulham at home. However, most premier league sides field weakened 11's in the Carling Cup and with an early kickoff on saturday McCarthy may have an even bigger incentive to rest players to try to capitalize on decent form at the beginning of the season. Cobbler's fans and the club alike are going into this with optimism and I for one will be having a romantic flutter on my team. William Hill, Coral and Victor Chandler are all offering NTFC at 5.00 which I reckon is great value. 4.5 can be found at most other major bookies.

  12. Re: U21 European Championship 2011

FT: Belarus U21 2 Iceland U21 0 Iceland were the better side for most of a poor game, but failed to convert any of their few chances, and Belarus took the lead from a penalty in the 75th minute. After that, the game really opened up and Belarus had a string of chances on the break, scoring from one in the 87th minute to make it 2-0.
Hmm, well that's 90 minutes of my life I'll never get back. I thought Belarus really came into their own after the penalty, whether that was because they had more confidence or purely because Iceland were down to 10 they were definitely much improved. Having said that I'm not sure they deserved 2-0, they were poor for the most part of the match and were kept in the game by two great saves from the goalkeeper. Disappointed by both teams.
  13. Re: U21 European Championship 2011 Iceland v Belarus I think Iceland will see Denmark as their main opponent in this group and with the Iceland v Denmark game being the 3rd game of the group stages Iceland will push to get points on the board before that game. As jofusie has said, their style may leave them open at the back, but they do have some outstanding players in the squad. I saw Sigurdsson several times while he was at reading and thought he was top class. Good odds for Iceland in my opinion. Selection: Iceland 2.15 @ bwin

  14. Re: Toulon Tournament 2011

Unders would be a good call if it was the final. But from my experience' date=' 3rd place play-off games often seem to be open attacking games with lots of goals - there isn't a trophy at stake so the teams aren't afraid of losing, and they tend to attack. So I think it's more likely to be an entertaining high-scoring game than a tense low-scoring one.[/quote'] I see where you'e coming from and I agree that you are right about 3rd place games usually being more likely to go over. But this time around I have to say that Italy themselves seem a tense team and have struggled to openly attack all tournament. Mexico I think are more likely to throw it all on the line but I'm not sure they are good enough to force a free-flowing end-to-end game.
  15. Re: Toulon Tournament 2011 Mexico v Italy I'll be taking the unders here for exactly the reasons that have been mentioned before. The favourites Italy (who I believe only jut edge it as favourites) have an exceptional defence and yet the team in general has struggled to score and has not looked comfortable going forward. I dont see Mexico scoring here, but I don't think Italy will trash them either.

  16. Re: Npower League Two > Ante-Post 2011-12 Season Im actually a northampton fan so i'll chime in here. First part may sound biased but meh. I personally don't think we deserved to finish where we did last season. We had a good run which looked like we may have been in a position to challenge for the playoffs. However then things went pear-shaped and not due to a lack of goals. Our 18 (i think it was 18) games without a win in the second half of the season came from really, really poor defensive play. I lost count of the number of times we were winning and then threw it away to draw or lose from 2 and even 3 goal leads. When johnosn came in after the sacking of sammo he changed the defense around a bit and we were hit by injuries to the point that we had 1 proper defender fit for several games. Thats how football goes i know, but it didnt help at all. I'm glad to hear cardoza will spend this year as he has been very reluctant to in recent years. In short, with the signing's we have made we wont have problems scoring goals next season, especially with bayo back :). On top of this, i think johnoson is a top manager at this level and should sort our defense swiftly. So yeah, we look in a good place for next season, but I wont be taking any bet to win the league outright as no matter who we have outfiled, I never have and never will trust Chris Dunn in goal. He makes howling mistakes constantly, often in importnat games and i was horrified when we offered him a new contract. A fans perspective I know, but it may be helpful.

  17. Re: NHL playoffs

It was goalie fight. I think that we can expect Under game again. Betting 1 or 2 is little risk. Under 5 @ 2' date='00 again. 2 or 3 goals max in this game. Under 5 very safe option :D[/quote'] Have to agree with this, I think we could see quite a few unders this series. Both keepers are in pretty damn good form and with neither team (boston in particular for a while now) not managing to convert their powerplays as well at the moment a lot of factors are pointing towards low scoring games.
