  1. Re: Cricket: Twenty20 Cup 2009

The pitch isn't coming on at all by all accounts. They only made 11 more than us on a perfect wicket the other day. This is the wicket they played on last night so in theory it should start turning big. Haven't helped ourselves by dropping Luke Wright just now though.
Ah ok, explains a bit then. Didn't know it was the same wicket as last night. Thanks for the info - Wright gone now as well, so drop not too costly yet.
  2. Re: Cricket: Twenty20 Cup 2009 Good luck to everyone for today. 2 for me: Hampshire to beat Sussex Sussex were beaten yesterday by an Essex team who bowleed reasonably well. The batting was a concern for me as they struggled a lot against the bowling of Bopara and Kaneria in the middle overs. Dimi is a similar bowler to Bopara imo, and Tahir is a decent spinner who takes regular wickets. They struggled against similar bowling yesterday, so I will back them to do the same tonight and pick a Hampshire win here. Derbyshire to beat Nottingham Notts get overrated by the bookies in every game they play. They have been very unconvincing so far with their names not performing. I initially thought Derbyshire would be poor in this format, but they have really got their heads up and are playing well. Big rivalry here and I fancy Derbyshire to take their momentum forward and pick up another win here.

  3. Re: Cricket: Twenty20 Cup 2009 Thanks WoodyTHFC. 2 for me today: Nottinghamshire to beat Lancashire Better team imo - Swann and Sidebottom back. Essex to beat Sussex Apologies for no write up, but the game is about to start - will hopefully put up a small write up for the Essex game in a while. Good luck to you both today, and well done yesterday!

  4. Re: Cricket: Twenty20 Cup 2009 1/2 for me yesterday with the Durham collapse. Great day again for you kevshat with a clean sweep! Keep it up mate! For me today: Kent to beat Middlesex. Pretty much the same reason why I went against them last time out to be honest. I feel they are being priced up too short just due to the tag of being champions. Shah and Morgan are back today, but Kartik still isn't. I said last game that in my opinion he was the biggest loss of all as he can take wickets and create pressure. His inclusion also helps Udal. Without him last game, Udal went around the park and the Middlesex bowlers just couldn't build any pressure at all. It's all well and good having Shah and Morgan back, but the bowling has not changed from that day. They managed only to take 1 wicket in 20 overs, and Surrey score 180+. I watched the game and it was't just a brilliant knock from Ramps or Afzaal - the bowling was just there to be put away. If anything, Surrey should really have scored above 200. Today sees the visit of a Kent team who got saved by bad light against Essex. They gave up 187 runs against Essex, but today will have Mclaren and Stevens back. With the bowling attack strengthened, and one of the best batting lineups in the tournament I have to back Kent here. Also a revenge spot from last year's final. Somerset to beat Warwickshire. Simply put - Somerset at Taunton, off the back of scoring only 113 in their last match. They managed to win that game which is a good sign for the bowling as they defended such a small total. Their batting lineup on the other hand is just too good to fail like that again, particularly at home. If Trescothick gets going the game will beyond Warwickshire early, and I don't fancy him to be getting 2 ducks in a row. Odds are slightly short but value is still there. Also thinking of backing Hampshire but have not as of yet decided. Will probably wait and see if Dimi plays or not.

  5. Re: England Vs West Indies - ODI Series (Cricket) A case of waiting for the team news here for me, but if fiddy plays then the bet for me: West Indies to beat England A decent bet here at odds against I feel. Last ODI the only word for the windies performance was pathetic. The batsmen were half arsed and it showed with them being bowled out for a measly 160. Gayle showed signs of form before giving his wicket away to a Swann delivery which really should have been dispatched. Sarwan went for a duck, and even the ever reliable Chanderpaul simply threw his wicket away. The only bright spark was Bravo with a decent knock of 50 in the middle. England's batting did not convince me later on though to be honest. They made quite hard work in chasing the 160 at times, and I just feel that on paper the West Indies are far the better side. If they apply themselves and Fidel Edwards is back to lead the bowling attack, they have a great shout at odds against imo.

  6. Re: Cricket: Twenty20 Cup 2009 Couple for me: Sussex to beat Surrey Siding with Kevshat here as I feel Sussex are now the value at odds against. Surrey were impressive yesterday, but as said earlier it was against a very depleted Middlesex team. Played out as we expected in that the bowling was also very light and they were unable to take any wickets throughout. Sussex were smashed by a Hampshire squad, but make no mistake about it - they are the form team of the competition. Only 3 batsmen of theirs managed to score over double figures, and I reckon they will amend that today. Durham to beat Derbyshire Bet of the day right here in my opinion. Durham are not at full yet, but showed yesterday just how devastating their batting lineup is/can be. From a position of 27/4 they were still able to chase 163. That too was with only 3 batsmen getting into double figures. Once again I fancy them to rectify this today and get the job done against a Derbyshire side not cut out for this format in my opinion. The other match I'd be leaning towards Yorkshire, but won't be betting on it.

  7. Re: Cricket: Twenty20 Cup 2009 Thanks mate :) Yorkshire did worry me with their collapse there at the end, but Shahzad came through in the end thankfully. Looking a decent day for kevshat too with Henderson top scoring, and Northamptonshire winning. Well called mate! Unlucky with the Essex pick as they hit a great score, but bad light stopped play.

  8. Re: Cricket: Twenty20 Cup 2009 Not a fan of top batsmen markets myself, but if I were to have a bet I'd be going: James Hildreth @ 28 First very important factor - He plays at Taunton! If anywhere is going to get consistent 175+ scores it is at Somerset. I feel Trescothick is rightfully favourite in this market, but he is too short at 10s. Hildreth usually comes in at 3 which is a favourable position for this type of market. If Somerset get off to a flyer, his job will be to come in and maintain the scoring rate with a free role to attack. If they lose early wickets, then his job will change to consolidate and try to bat a long period of time before attacking. This is favourable in this type of market imo as you have both scenarios on your side. Numbers 3 and 4 are usually crucial in 20-20 as we saw in the recent IPL with Raina, Dilshan etc. At the odds and considering the ground he plays at, price is value imo. Hamish Marshall @ 25 Just a class batsmen, who is more than good enough to be playing at any level. He will be crucial to Gloucestershire's chances, and has shown his prowess in this format in the ICL tournament. He can score quickly, but can also bat for decent periods of time. The risk is that his team isn't great, and they may not get too far in the competition. However if they are to do well then a lot rests on Marshall and 25's is too big for someone of his class.

  9. Re: Darts: Premier League Play-offs Hopefully a great night's darts in store tonight! A couple for me: Taylor to win the Premier League @ 4/11 Doesn't really need much explanation really. The price is short, but Taylor is different class. This is his tournament, and Merv King is generally Taylor's bitch. No doubt he will be talking up his non-existent A game, but Taylor will beat King in this format 19 times out of 20. Then in the final he is set to face either Barney or Wade. Here again I think it will be the same old story - they will keep it tight for 6 legs or so, and then realise who they are playing/Taylor raises his average and pulls away. Best darts player ever and is generally madness to back against him. Barney to beat Wade @ 11/10 Normally I always back Wadey to take out Barney, be it outright or on the handicap. However, he is usually a decent priced underdog and I believe he has a pretty decent record against Barney overall. I may be wrong, but this is the first time Wade is going in as favourite against Barney as far as I know. Wade is the better player without doubt, but it will be interesting to see how this will affect him. Barney as underdog has arguably less pressure on him, and he has been here before many a time. He has been pretty poor by his own standards lately, and very inconsistent. However if he manages to find his game then 11/10 will look very big at the end of the night. Wade himself can be very erratic and I'm just hoping that Barney will have one of those night's where things go right for him and he checks out the doubles. Plus you always have the added bonus of hoping that Wade is hammered by the time he gets on, in which case Barney should win well!

  10. Re: Cricket: Twenty20 Cup 2009 3 for me today (prices are already listed above): Surrey to beat Middlesex Middlesex being priced up due to their tag of being champions here. They are missing Strauss, Shah, Morgan, and most importantly they are also going to be missing Murali Kartik. He has shown last year, and in the IPL just recently that he is a superb bowler in this format of the game. When bowling alongside Udal in the middle overs they have the ability to completely slow down a team's scoring rate whilst applying pressure which often brings about wickets. Henderson back is obviously a plus, but I just can't fancy a bowling attack of Finn, Silverwood, Udal, Henderson, and Berg/Dexter. Surrey on the other hand have everyone available. Nel, Schofield, Afzaal, and Spriegel are all wicket taking bowlers and should have enough about them today to restrict Middlesex's depleted squad. Hampshire to beat Sussex Sussex have a very decent batting lineup with Smith and Wright likely to return today. Add them to the likes of Goodwin and Yardy and you have a very decent looking side on paper. However, I personally feel that they will be lacking in the bowling department, particularly in the crucial middle overs. Their team contains quite a few part time bowlers/all rounders which in this format are always vulnerable. Smith, Wright, Hamilton-Brown, Yardy are all hittable, especially with the Hampshire batsmen in good nick. The big advantage that they have however imo, is the 2 specialist spinners in the middle overs which are often crucial to restricting runs/taking key wickets. Yorkshire to beat Leicestershire Simply a difference in quality/class between these 2 teams in my opinion. Yorkshire batsmen in good form coming into this game having chased down 329 in their last game. They have a very good blend of players who can smash the ball, as well as players who can knock it around and be stable bases for partnerships. Rana Naved likely to play and is superb in this format with both bat and ball. Has experience bowling at the death as well at the highest level, which will also usually be an advantage here. It's just hard to fancy Leicestershire in the shorter format - they rely heavily on 1/2 batsmen hence are always liable to a collapse, and their bowlers on the face of it do not appear suited to this format.
