  2. Re: England: Carling Cup Oct 25-26

Everton 1 - 1 Chelsea (Normal Time) Again haven't watched the match but will look at the highlights when they are on later tonight. Seems like it was a topsy turvy match with 2 penalties being missed and Chelsea having a man sent off. Of course I am well chuffed with the result though! :cigar
2 missed pens and about 10 massively simple chances missed listening to Ian Dowie on SSN
  3. Re: Cheltenham 2011 - Ante post bets and discussion Binocular misses Champion defence 13 Mar 2011 Nicky Henderson has been dealt a hammer blow with the news that Binocular will miss Tuesday's stanjames.com Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham. The current champion had been heading the ante-post market at around the 7-2 mark just hours before Sunday's declaration time. The JP McManus-owned gelding was treated for an allergy two weeks ago and did not respond to initial medication and required further treatment. Unfortunately Binocular then tested positive for a substance and on the British Horseracing Authority's advice, Henderson was forced to withdraw the horse. In a statement to Press Association Sport, Henderson said: "We have very regretfully had to decide not to declare Binocular for Tuesday's Champion Hurdle." He added: "Binocular had an allergy two weeks ago that did not respond to initial medication and on veterinary advice and well within normal parameters he required a further treatment the following day. "As we were getting close to the most important race of the year and also because since that administration to Binocular, another horse had tested positive for the same substance, I thought it prudent to take a precautionary test which not only surprisingly, let alone devastatingly, has also shown to be positive. "We have therefore reluctantly had to take the BHA's advice this morning that the only reasonable course in everybody's interest is not to confirm the entry and he has consequently been withdrawn from the Champion Hurdle. "We are all obviously shattered but I am particularly upset for JP (McManus) who has been incredibly understanding as I know how much this horse means to him

  4. Re: BBOTD - 10th of Feb

Bold Identity 2.30 Taunton. 0.5 points each way. Never raced in this country and never raced on ground as soft as it will be today. Breeding suggests that cut in the ground will suit much better than the good-firm he's been racing on' date= so worth ignoring his recent stats, and with going to a decent enough stable it wouldn't be a surprise to see a much improved display. Massive odds on the exchanges and worth a nibble to place in a race full of ifs and buts.
3rd at 100/1 Was nowhere until 2 horses fell at the last fence was watching it laughing, also Tom Pepper in the sun picked the horse out too, lad at work had £5 e/w, so £105 nice
  5. Re: Jump Racing - 3rd January

2.15 Ling - Babe Heffron. The racing post has gone for this and summarizes his chances well, CD winner, goes well fresh etc.. What they fail to mention is that the horse has been entered all over the place in the last two weeks, being declared the other day only to be withdrawn at the 11th hour. TG must be over the moon with the jockey booking, as (imo) he is the best pace setter of all jump jockeys. I am trying to get the 4/1 available, £300 win, will let you know how i got on later. Incidentley a trmendous Back to Lay angle on this horse. GL :hope
Won very easily in the end...

  7. Re: Monterosso's Specialisation - Winning! (+189pts)

2:00 Newcastle - The Fifth Member - 1pt e/w @ 20/1 (Bet365) Talented 6 year old, who on his day would be in with a big shout in this race. He comes here fresh after being unraced for 10 months and making his reappearance at the back end of last month. He ran well for a long time over 1m at Ascot, tried to make the running but got tired, possibly needed the run (never won after a break) and should come here in far better knick. He is effective from 7f to 10f and runs over an 8 furlong trip here under stamina sapping conditions, which if recapturing old abilities, he will thrive on it. His abilities to run further than this trip should come in handy as 1m at the Newcastle track takes a lot of getting and his abilities to stay on well should come in handy here. He has also won on Heavy ground over 7f, placed over 1m and came nowhere over 1m 2f, all from 3 runs on Heavy ground. He should love these conditions and has some classy form along the lines suggesting that a mark of 86 may not be beyond him, despite being 5lbs above his highest winning mark but has placed from 3lbs higher on a couple of occasions. The Fifth Member ran well for a long time last time out, sent off as a 57/1 outsider and hit 10/1 in running but faded tamely, I think he needed the run and should fair out a lot better here. He also tried to make all that day, a tactic that has never paid off for him before. He will more than likely be forced to sit further back today and that could pay dividends. The 2 Johnston horses could take it along at a good gallop and with my selection likely to be close up and potentially able to stay on best of the lot I think he'll go very well and hopefully place at least. He is most effective coming off a strong pace and his jockey Pat Cosgrave has given him similarly effective rides on numerous occasions, he has been on board The Fifth Member for 10 races winning 3 times with 2 seconds and 2 3rd places. Very impressive and they obviously get on well together, hopefully they'll click once again. Cosgrave rides the track very well on the rare occasion that he comes here, he has a 13% strike rate and has 3 rides today. He also does really well when riding for Jim Boyle (great name!), they have a 13% strike rate together. What really interests me is that Jim Boyle is making the guts of a 600 mile round trip from Epsom to Newcastle, a track that he has never visited before. I can't really get my head around it and possibly he feels the track is ideal for a horse like this, there couldn't be any other reason. This is the only horse he brings here and at 20/1 I'm certainly thinking he's overpriced and has good if not solid place claims on his best form, he will relish conditions and comes here fit, fresh and well treated. He's an 8/1 shot in my book and viciously overpriced by the odds compliers, they could be right but I don't think so. Now on to the runners in the race, Osteopathic Remedy has to contend with top weight and had a tough race just over a week ago, he has also never run overly well on this ground and is much more effective in big fields. 7/2 represents now value and he's opposable and bordering on being a lay. Bullwhip is joint top weight, ran poor enough last time out and I'm not sure he'll enjoy the 1m trip in stamina testing conditions, I could be wrong but at 5/1 I can't get involved, especially without Buick on board for Gosden. The 2 Johnston horses, Al Farahidi and Secretive could both be out for the jog, knowing Johnston they probably will be kept for what will be 2 interesting 4 year old campaigns, they have the ability to win here but I'm not sure if this true test will be to their liking although the former won so well on a really tough Pontefract course in soft ground suggesting he could well enjoy this but at 5's I don't want to get on. City Of The Kings is a quick ground horse, has ability but may not be loving conditions here and I wouldn't be too keen on the claimer on board. Arabian Spirit is high enough in the weights, should enjoy conditions but not for me at 11/4, could be vulnerable at this track, came 11 of 11 on only run here off 2lbs higher and he's no value. Faithful Ruler is interesting on his best form but hasn't shown too much of late and not sure if he likes this really soft ground, form suggests not. The last one, Scrapper Smith, takes a big jump in class and has a penalty, he will enjoy conditions but it's a big leap up on all known form and I can't see how he's half the price of my selection. On his best form, The Fifth Member could go very well here, he runs well on the back of a good gallop and has enough speed, stamina and a good attitude to run well here. I think he'll go close if coming back to his old self and I can't see the price hanging around for too long. He's worth small each way stakes in the hope that he is up to his old ability and justifies Boyle's extremely long trip.
Good e/w 2nd if you got on at 20's pal, i got it at 10s... Added with a Cahill 1st goal at 15/2 my betting day has started well :):):)
  8. Re: Monterosso's Specialisation - Winning! (+172pts)

1:50 Newmarket - Red Jazz - 2pts @ 6/1 (StanJames) Very game 3 year old who has held his own in pattern company, he has a lot of speed and comes here on the back of a career best performance when 3rd in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Ii Stakes. He was 3/4 of a length behind the winner, Poet's Voice and ran an absolute cracker despite being a 40/1 shot and even bigger throughout the day. On official figures he's rated 1lb behind his main challenger for this race, Delegator, he will be carrying 2lbs less than the Godolphin horse so he's well in at the weights, although not by much. If he replicates his run from last time out he should take a lot of beating here. Interestingly, Robert Winston takes the ride today, he has only been ridden by Michael Hills before but he's gone to Canada to ride in a Grade 1 there. Winston is a jockey I really rate and I think he could be a plus to this horse, I don't really think Hills is the best of jockeys at all and I'm interested to see how Red Jazz will do with a new pilot today. He has a wonderful attitude and if he gets past the likely pace setter Duff in the final couple I think Delegator could find it tough to pass the Barry Hills trained 3 year old who is often very game in front and has a nice turn of foot when it's required. The Godolphin trained 4 year old won a decent Listed race on his reappearance but this is much tougher, he should come on for that but I'm yet to be fully convinced that he retains all of the old ability that saw him come 2nd to Sea The Stars in the '09 2,000 Guineas and a neck behind the wonderful Mastercraftsman. I'm reckon he's a much better miler than he is over this 7f trip and my selection, Red Jazz, should relish the step back in trip from racing over a mile in a Group 1 last time out. Red Jazz will love conditions today, he's a course and distance winner and has a sound draw in stall 7, not far away from the likely pace although he is prone to setting the pace himself but performed well off the back of a very good gallop last time out. There is a fair chance that the pace could be of a similar speed today and if it is my selection should take a lot of beating. Barry Hills has an excellent record in this race and has won it on 5 occasions and could well add another victory here, with a bit of luck. Red Jazz should love the ground today, it's currently Good and hopefully won't get any quicker. His record on Good ground is superb with form reading : 1-1-3. It is by far his most effective surface and with so much to suit here and on the back of a career best performance I see him as significantly overpriced at 6/1. I had him as a 7/2 shot and I don't think 6's will be around come race time. He has enough ability to win this and if he beats Delegator he will more than likely be the winner of this race. He's worth a small bet in the hope that he comes on for that Group 1 race and can take victory here in a Group 2.
Well done fella, got a lovely free run and moved away smartly, Delegator got blocked off a few times, Frankie seemed to try and take him through a hole that wasnt there..
