  1. Re: UEFA Champions League » 2009-2010 ( 21 July - 22 July )

Is it me or the 1,9 for Bohemians or draw is HUGE.... I don;t think that slazburg will get more out of this game then a draw... The irish team is in mid season and have the home advantage while Slazburg had there first official match last week.... I really can;t understand why the huge odds... are there any absences from Bohemians? Does anybody have any info about this match?
Salzburg dominated the first leg but didn't take their chances. Bohemians scored their goal on one of their few trips up the field. I think Salzburg should take the game but i wouldn't back them at the price available myself.
  2. Re: World Cup Qualifiers - Oct 11/12

Have to agree Paul' date=' over evens seems a v big price for a game which Scotland MUST win. With the news coming out of the Norweigian camp that Iversen will almost certainly be unavailable for the game, I think our centrehalfs in weir and Caldwell should be more than capable of keeping Norway at bay (I never thought I'd see the day where I'd be confident in Caldwell!) Kenny Misser failing to make it is a worry for us considering his perforamnces for Scotland in recent years but for me Mcfadden and Boyd is our strongest partnership and hopefully one which will bring us 3 points on Saturday[/quote'] It's probably a MUST win for Norway as well. :) Still i think Scotland can take them at home. I couldn't help but notice Israel at 1/4 away to Luxembourg. Rubbish odds for obvious reasons but surely not rubbish enough not to be backed? Have Israel a history of struggling to beat the minnows away from home or something? It seems strange the odds. Austria going to the Faroes is 1/7 for example. Why are Israel 1/4?
  3. Re: World Cup 2010: Matches ( 05/06/07-10/11 09 2008 )

I dunno what to say about Sudan now that they lost!!! :unsure If it's any consolation, I've lost my whole bank with Bet365 on that game! :cry It may take me sometime to collect my thoughts and regain self-confidence. I would have expected England to draw to Andorra, or Germany to Liechtenstein, but not Sudan to even draw to Chad, let alone lose to them! :( I owe each and everyone of you a BIG apology... :$
No need for an apology. Even if you though they were a 1/3 shot you still expect them to lose one time in four. As happens despite the same neutral country being used Sudan are 11/10 for the midweek game with VC Bet right now.
  4. Re: World Cup 2010: Matches ( 05/06/07-10/11 09 2008 )

The main reason for it being a "banker" is the crowd and venue, but Sudan shoul have been favourites anyhow. Consier this: Sudan managed to beat Mali in Khartoum in these qualifiers. Sudan beat Egypt in a friendly 2 weeks ago by 4-0 Sudan are well known to be a tough home team, and the likes of Nigeria and Cameroon cannot win in Sudan. This is why had the games been played on a true home and away basis I would have had doubts over the away fixture, but the home fixture would still have been a banker. Ok, so "banker" is actually non-existent in football, but let's say I expect Sudan to win by no less than 3 goals and probably without conceding.
If Sudan were playing at home as per usual would the odds be tighter than 4/6? Also is the weekend game or the later midweek game the one where Sudan are designated the "away" team?
  5. Re: Champions League Qualifying: Levadia Tallinn v Drogheda United

Levadia Tallinn (Estonia) v Drogheda United (Rep of Ireland) First Leg: Drogs won 2-1 First leg game was a close enough affair. Tallinn went 1-0 up after a mistake from the Drogs defender. In the second half Drogs stormed back to win 2-1. I have been watching Drogs all season. We are a side who usually don't treaten from corners, set pieces generally or open play. And with our best player on the transfer list our defence isn't too hot either. The weird thing is, is that we have a squad full of talented players. But we just can't seem to play football. I was going to post something like this before the first recommending a bet on the Estonian guys. Luckily I didn't. All I know is we are playing poor and these boys average 3 goals a game in their league. I recommend a small bet on the home side. Bet: Home win. 4/10 @ evens
I agree with you on this one Coltron, especially with Irish teams' traditional poor away form both at club level and international level too. Actually i've just realised as a write this the game is on already. Half time, no goals. That evens price surprised me, well worth the bet. They are 13/8 now the home team. I'll be surprised if they don't win this.
  6. Re: UEFA - Champions League Qual.-Tuesday

Not sure why the Croats would sympathise more with one group of Christians more than another.:unsure but an interesting theory.
I doubt it had any baring on the game to be fair. However there was clashes in Belfast leading up to the match and in the ground the Linfield fans (never known for their friendliness) chanted "Serbia, Serbia" at the fans from Croatia who responded with waving the flag of the Vatican at the 100% protestant fans. Result was always going to be the same regardless of any of this nonsense. Those men in bowler hats are protestant orangemen celebrating a victory in battle over a catholic army many years ago. If the news of the Linfield fans cheering for Serbia during the game reaches Zagreb i suspect they shouldn't travel to watch the second leg. EDIT: My mistake. The Zagreb fans waved their flags first and the Linfield fans responded with Serbia taunts.
  7. Re: Austria v Croatia (Sunday) Croatia may be overestimated in the whole tournament. They came through a relatively easy group to get there. They can play blinders but i wouldn't trust them to be consistent over the whole tournament to get far. I seems they got their turkey game out of the way early though. Saving themselves for the Germans perhaps!

  8. Re: Euro 2008 draw Bit mad pricing up the games so early. Though it's exciting to see it. Should be a great tournament. The Swiss in the opening game at 13/8 looks interesting. I know in the last couple years they have been improving. Has it stalled at all since? Not sure about them Czechs at all. We (Ireland) gave them a good game and we had our worst qualifying performance in years. I agree about evens for Croatia. Looks good since Austria are just above the minnows these days. But i've a bad feeling the Austrians might punch above their weight. There is zero expectationsfrom their fans which could be a blessing. Romania/France. Romania 10/3? A bit big surely? The Scots beat the French home and away. I wonder about how good they are these days. To win group D i'd be tempted by 4/1 about Greece. They qualified with style. And we all know what the Spanish always do in these tournaments. Sweden and Russia? I'm not convinced by either of them.

  9. Re: Euro 2008 Acca's Wales to beat them Cypriots (9/5). Scotland and Ukraine BORING. No goalscorer (7/1). Halftime/Fulltime Ireland/Germany (28/1). Azerbaijan Portugal to draw. Dunno, just don't trust them Portuguese, plus they have been drawing a lot. (13/2). Otherwise for the rest of Saturday's games an interest acca. Hungary Iceland Croatia Greece

  10. Re: Euro 2008 Qualifiers (Oct 13)

Tall_bastard, Ireland scraped by Slovakia and Wales 1-0 in the two biggest qualifiers to date. Germany, despite the players they are missing will be able to put out a better side than a fading Wales team or a weak Slovak team. IMO we don't have what it takes (hard to write that) to win this game as much as I'd like - I'm going. My bet is for a 1-1 draw. Germany to score first and then a spirited fight back and possibly scrap a equaliser. Similiar to the game in Japan during the last World Cup. I haven't seem Ireland play in a well over a year so I'm far from an expert.
Wow you have really been away. Unfortunately i had to watch the boys play and they are awful. Staunton!!! You forget how we play our games. We score first, defend and let in a disappointing late goal. Always the way. So 1-1 also looks about a good score prediction to me. We were bad against Wales at Croker and not much better against the Slovaks. I remember the game in Slovakia when they scored that last minute goal they ran to pick up the ball from the net and play to win, disappointed with having only drawn with Ireland. That shows their opinion of our team. The Welsh showed us how to deal with Slovakia. In fact now that i think of this as i write maybe i'll change that prediction to 2-1 to Germany. We score first and let in twice in the second half instead of our usual once. The Ireland/Germany half time/full time odds top 28/1 with the bookies.
  11. Re: Euro 2008 Qualifiers (Oct 13) Wales look a big price for me this weekend. Cyprus have had their best qualifying campaign to date and are no longer the lower minnows in world football. However the Slovaks went there before San Marino and beat them 3-1 showing that they remain vunerable at the back. Wales were banging in the goals against the Slovaks in the last game and could do the same against the Cypriots. 3-2 to the Wales!

  12. Re: Euro 2008 Matches (Sep 8)

How about Healy to score at any time which is 2.76 with betfair last time aI checked. Worth a medium stake I would say ;)
It's probably a better idea backing Healy to score than N. Ireland to win. Better odds and if they are going to win this game you suspect Healy will have to win it for them. Him to be first goal scorer is something like 5/1.
  13. Re: Euro 2008 Matches (Sep 8)

I'm getting on Ireland while the price is still high (9/5)' date=' although they haven't been good away from home in recent years theres always a time when this will change! After all we did beat a good Denmark side 4-1 away from home with a good few players missing! :cow If ireland don't get the three points on Saturday their qualification is over, i just think Ireland will take this! Went to watch the home game and although the match was pretty even, Slovakia were absolutely AWFUL going forward, their shots all flying nearer the corner flag! Time for Staunton to prove his worth :hope[/quote'] I hope to God your right and i'm wrong! Sure the bad away days must end eventually but 9/5 about it happening on Saturday? Can we keep a clean sheet? Do we have to score twice? I was tempted by 6/4 about Slovakia but changed my mind when i heard Vittek was missing. Thank God Shay will be there but we've lost Finnan. I tend not to look at friendlies too much. The Danes just didn't want to play once they went 1-0 down. It was too easy. I recall us hammering Sweden 3-0 and nothing came out of it. Like i said i hope i'm wrong but......
  14. Re: Euro 2008 Matches (Sep 8)

On my dear old Republic our away record in qualifying belongs in a nightmare. I can't remember then last away qualifier game we won (against anyone outside the two lowest seed teams in each group). It must be getting on to 10 years now. So far on this campaign trail's away days we lost 1-0 to the Germans after we went there with our minds on defence. Then the recurring nightmare strikes. Cyprus hammered us 5-2 and we needed an injury time goal to beat San Marino 2-1! Germany put 13 past them. Some mornings i still wake up thinking those two results were just a nightmare. But they are very real. Lay Ireland.
I've just read that the Slovaks will be without top striker Vittek after suffering an injury in a Bundesliga match recently. I'm still against Ireland winning but perhaps not as strongly as before.
  15. Re: Euro 2008 Matches (Sep 8) On Israel, someone was right earlier in saying people seem to have a low opinion of them. They are have only lost once in qualifying matches away from home since losing at France in October 2003. That one loss was in Northern Ireland in 2005. Draws away from home tend to be their specialty. Though despite all of this i think England will get a 2-1 victory out of it. Northern Ireland failing to win in Latvia will just means things going back to normal. I wouldn't call it a surprise although i expect them to just about 'Healy' it. The one game i really like is Hungary v Bosnia. Now i know the Fifa rankings are not much use for minute analysis but theres a difference of 40 placing between these two teams. Bosnia being the higher ranked of the two. Hungary beat Bosnia in the other tie between these two but if you put the game out on its own the only other team they beat was Moldova. Norway put 8 goals past them in their two games and they were beaten by Malta. Hungary ony won 2 home games in WC06 qualifying against Iceland and Malta. Anyone better than that and they tend to struggle. Bosnia have already beaten Norway and Turkey. Why not Hungary. Bosnia to win. Anything 2/1+ ill be going after. I know there's a few fans from the region who post here regularly. Can you guys put me of backing the Bosnians?

  16. Re: Euro 2008 Qualifiers Aug 22, 2007

3/4 there Dumyat, only Serbia let you down so perhaps you should have stuck with your underdogs! Perhaps next time you could include a bit of explanation as to why you have chosen your picks? good shout on over 3 aswell allthethings, you just can't stop Healy scoring for Norn Iron atm!

Couple for Fulham too. Wonder if he'll turn that international form into the Premier League. He could keep them up single handedly!

  17. Re: Germany Fav Euro 2008!! I think the world champs should be ahead of them alright. The Germans must be a popular bet to have them where they are. At the risk of sounding foolish i think the holders Greece look worth a small bet at those prices. In qualifying for 2004 after losing their first two games they won their final six not conceding once. Obviously your going to have to ignore their recent world cup qualifying campaign. So far in their current qualifying group they are showing eerie signs of repeating results achieved in 2004. Taking out the one game they got beat up on by the Turks 4-1 they've won every other game only conceding once. If they finish the rest of the campaign unbeaten with clean sheets who knows maybe lightning could strike twice!
