  1. Re: England > Midweek > Non-league Jan 9-10 As a Cambridge fan I'm slightly worried about tonight. We are literally down to the bare bones. Gash is missing thanks to a dreadful challenge her received from Poku at the end of the Southport game. His goal record isn't great but it's his hold up play that we will really miss as he links up with the over running midfielders extremely well. I expect Liam Hughes will start in his place. Another youngster full of potential but liable to slip in and out of games. We are also struggling at the back with Wylde out injured and MacAuley still not quite up to match fitness. That means another scholar in Blaine Hudson will start. He is only 19 but great things are expected of him. He's also 6ft 3 and fairly mobile. It will be an interesting contest but i'd happily take a draw at the moment. I think I'll look into the odds of Grimsby DNB.

  2. Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet Prem Jan 1 Good start to the year with the Luton -1 tip. Got 11/10 with Bet365 and went big. Apologies to anyone who backed Cambridge. We've gone off the boil and seem to be lacking that cutting edge that we had at the start of the season. It appears the opposition have sussed us out a bit and have worked out how to stop our ball players. Thursday will be interesting against Southport but I would seriously urge folks to back us with little confidence as our young squad blow hot and cold. Thanks for the tips this year to all the regulars. I've enoyed reading this page and picked up some gems along the way although like Addpea, I've had my fingers burnt a little of late. Hopefully that will change in 2012 :clap

  3. Re: Blue Square BET Premier » Oct 18 Was a top night last night, thank you to all involved. I took Tamworth of the back of reading the write ups on here so thank you. Didn't have the balls to take Southport but I wish I had. My only losing bet was FGR 94 minute winner to rob me of a draw. Top work punterslounge :clap

  4. Re: England: Blue Square Premier Oct 4-6 Injury doubts for the U's with Charles, Carew and Dunk. We also have our man of the season Tom Shaw suspended. Murtagh is away on international duty so midfield cover is where we may struggle. So that leaves us pretty short on the ground. Youngster Adam Marriott will probably come into the attacking midfield role for Shaw and Luke Berry will drop back into the centre. Nippy winger Jordan Patrick is likely to go wide right if Dunk doesn't make the starting XI.

  5. Re: England: Blue Square Premier Oct 4-6 I would strongly urge people to back Cambridge United with caution. We have a young squad capable of beating anyone in this division but they are going to slip up from time to time like we did on Saturday. I think we have reached the point where we are competing in every match for 90 minutes (unlike last season thank you Mr Ling) but we are too unpredictable for me to confidently back us. It makes for an exciting season though and it's one I'm enjoying.

  6. Re: England > Midweek > BlueSQ Bet Prem Sept 20 Hayes looked a decent side when we saw them. They've got pace down the flanks and up top but they seemed to lack that cutting edge in the final third. They also let us score direct from a throw in so I suspect their defence could be a little shaky. Their play seemed to come through Hand who has since joined Luton so I've got a hunch that they might start to really struggle. Can't say it's a game that jumps out at me and I haven't seen Braintree yet but with their manager I'd imagine they'll be quite direct and tough from top to bottom. The two that are jumping out at me are the obvious one of Luton away to Bath and Barrow away to Alferton. Luton Bath explains itself. Barrow are a team capable of beating anyone when they turn up and the 2.8 that 365 are offering for the win is tempting me against a poor Alfteron. I'm also tempted to have a nibble on Wrexham at Southport but that is more a gut feeling. Probably do small singles although the odds on Luton are pretty poor.

  7. Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet Prem Sept 17 Bet365 have Telford @2.00 for the home win against a struggling Bath City. I know Telford haven't got going yet but they looked a decent side when we played them. I feel they've got a half decent side waiting to click and feel the price is too good to turn down against the part timers of Bath City who are really struggling.

  8. Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet Prem Sept 17 Going back to the Cambridge FGR game last Saturday. Half our squad had been suffering from a stomach bug and our squad was already down to the bare bones. It was a terrible game of football to watch and neither side deserved the win. At the end it could have gone either way. Unfortunately for you Ships, Charles was a shadow of his usual self as he was chucking up the night before. As for the Gateshead game today I think we'll be lucky to get a point. We should however score as Dunk is now back from suspension and Peter Winn should be getting close to match fitness. They will cause any team in this league problems down the flanks. We've also got Murtagh available again now and he looked like a class above for the ten minutes he was on the pitch last week. He set up the penalty which having watched the replay was definitely a pen. The problem lies with our centre backs. Captain Wylde is out injured and his space is likely to be filled by utility man MaCauley. He is a decent young pro who gets stuck in but he hasn't played CB for a while. Luke Berry our star midfield man was also rested against FGR and he will certainly start today. So I expect us to score but will be surprised to see us coming away with a point against the inform side.

  9. Re: England > Non-league antepost > BlueSQ Bet Prem 2011-12 That Sheffield Wednesday side was the youth team. Still an impressive scoreline but I wouldn't get too carried away. We played Alferton in the trophy last season. They looked a very organised side who played some decent football. I know they lost a few players but they will certainly do well. I think they might do what most successful promoted teams seem to do and tail off in the final third. Bit like Newport last season. Going back to Wrexham. I'm glad the future is looking brighter. On the striker note, Danny Wright will run his balls into the ground but his finishing really lets him down. If he cant get that side of his game sorted then you'll have a cracking player on your hands. If he doesn't then expect a 1 in 3 striker who despite his size isn't much of a target man. Deceiving turn of pace though. Good point about Darlo addpea, I agree about drawing the away games.

  10. Re: England > Non-league antepost > BlueSQ Bet Prem 2011-12 Hello chaps. We have certainly had a good pre-season so far and Jez seems to have unearthed some real gems for the future. His ethos is to develop youngsters so we will be going into the season with a very young inexperienced squad. It could go either way but I suspect we will probably get bullied by a few of the shrewder BSP sides We are trying not to get too carried away after the previous couple of years but all the signs at Cambridge are pointing in the right direction. I'm not sure if we will have the experience to make a top 5 finish but I'd expect us to be sniffing round the play offs. I think we are a decent keeper and centre back away from being top 5 at the moment but that could change. I'm still not convinced enough to lump on us to beat Wrexham away. If the game was at home then maybe but we only won a few games under George last season (although the improvement when he took over from Ling was ten fold). Our recent record at the Racecourse isn't great which is the main reason that makes me want to go with my head rather then my heart. On the positive side Jez has shipped out the journeymen that were eating up most of the budget and I'm really looking forward to seeing how our hungry whippersnappers cut their teeth. I thought Darlington looked excellent towards the end of last season. Cooper knows this league inside out and has made some decent signings. I've got a feeling they will be right up there for most of the season. As for Robbie Willmott being top goal scorer..... I'm not convinced. 150/1 is worth a small punt but he is too inconsistent for my liking. Having watched him for years I don't think I've ever seen him score a 1 - 1. He's not a natural finisher around the box and tends to drift in and out of games when he feels like it. He'll weigh in with free kicks and the odd penalty but Brabin will more then likely play him in his favoured position out wide. PS Good luck to the sheep shaggers. I hope the game goes ahead as planned. We went through similar when our ground was robbed from beneath us. We will also never forget the Wrexham fans that turned up for our fans united day and sang their hearts out as we battled to save our club. I've always admired them for that and hope they survive.

  12. I've decided that I'm going to give Poker a second bash having had a very up and down career to date. I've not played properly for about 6 months and feel nows the time to give it another bash. I want to start from fresh like a true newbie. My current strategy didn't get me anywhere really (couple of V points) and the chips that I did build up soon went away again. Can anybody point me in the direction of some decent threads, books, sites and games to start building bank rolls. I really want to get my head round everything. All advice would be welcome. Will hopefully (work permitting) start playing the focus games.

  13. Re: Drunken Damage What really wound me up was the dealer constantly got Black Jack or two picture cards while I was constantly getting 13 or 14. If it was a heads up Hold’em.game I’d have lasted about 3 hands.

I feel that Virgin should reimburse me. I was vulnerable and they took advantage of me, I feel used.

  14. Did something really, really stupid last weekend <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Came in from a good night out :beer and decided to open up Virgin with my night cap. Spotted the link to Black Jack on the poker table (never really paid it any attention when sober) Woke up Sunday morning to find that my Balance is £0.

I only made the initial £20 deposit on Virgin about 18 months ago. Didn’t have major bucks in there but I’d been building my bank roll & V points up nicely on STT’s & V-Rolls.

Having read the infamous Mole thread I may now reload and try the cash tables.

    Still disappointed with myself. :puke:wall
