  1. Re: 'Mad 10 mins' Nade, I play mostly limit, but even at that form, I'm very aware of the number of times I've shipped 20-30 BB to 3 fish in a table of 6, but stuck to my guns and come away ahead eventually. I also know that I frequently go down 20-30 BB and come away down by that amount after a decent period. Not everyone learns to cope with short-term variance, but if you don't then, albeit for a short period, you swim with the fishes. If you're a good player, you don't tilt.

  2. Re: Extracting the Maximum (It's important to realise that you don’t have the nuts on the flop: 54 beats you. I’m sure you do know that, but you said otherwise, so it’s best to be clear, no matter how unlikely that you’re behind. I’ve made money from aquatic-type people who genuinely thought they had the nuts, but didn’t)

It’s real easy, posted here, to see that you quickplayed your hand. In the heat of battle, it’s hard to know for certain: did McRae raise pre-flop or not?

Actually, McRae was third limper here; after a raise and three calls, he called again, completing the round of betting. No-one can come over the top of him.

Given the flop, he has at worst two overcards, and three checks to him. He makes a tiddling bet given the size of the pot.

If you could have seen that at the time, you might have just called, and hoped for a raise later. More likely ( I speak from experience here, no criticism intended), you didn’t know the exact betting history, because “Hey, it’s a minor pocket pair in a 5-way hand, only matters if I hit the flop, right?”

  3. Re: Golf Betting Confused. Long time since I did this sort of bet, but as I recall if your player is in a 3-way tie for a single paying place, you lose 2/3 of your stake and get paid correct odds on the other 1/3 (this gives a slightly different result to simply dividing the odds by 1/3 as Crouch suggests). Sterne and Els were in a 4-way tie for 1 paying place, Watson in a 3-way tie for 1 paying place. So you get 12.5p at 33/4 on Sterne, 12.5p at (11/2)/4 or 11/8 on Els and 16.66p at 50/4 on Watson. By my calculations, though, this comes out at £3.29. So either your bookie was overly generous, or my reasoning is wrong. Which of those is most likely I wonder.

  4. Re: player notes - wondering how useful they actually are The ratio: moves at the right times / moves at the wrong times is a pretty good approximation of how good a player your are. If every move in a session goes wrong, make a note on the other players stating "This guy thinks I'm a chump", and just fleece them next time instead.

  5. Re: The 2007 Masters Golf Tournament

I like Weir each way for this one. He's got a win, a fifth and an eleventh in the last four years, which is comparable to Tiger. Not in great form so far this year, but for the Masters, previous tournament success is an important indicator. Betfair gave me 21 for Weir in the top 5.
Right now, this market has a back % of 489, with 5 winners to be paid. There has to be value there somewhere.
  6. Re: The 2007 Masters Golf Tournament Tee times are in now. Woods goes out real late. Does anyone know preferred tee times at this level - early / middle / late, or does it vary by player? 7. Re: PuntersLounge Backgammon Cup - April Bizarre. Censorship gone stark raving barmy. Is somebody going to slap me? I see that if I say a friend referred me, we both get freebies. Sorry. Bagsy I don't get slapdash in the first round. Tiger Woods, he looks like.

  8. Re: PuntersLounge Backgammon Cup - April I created an account on PartyGammon so I could take part in this. Now I need to know, why is the word "cube" offensive? I typed it in the chat my first game, came out as "c**e"? What can that possibly be about?

  9. Re: Feedback please??? Halibut / curtains / radiator, no.

    Pre-flop

I’d pass KJo in that position. But, you seem to know your opponents, so maybe your judgement overrides generalisations. When it gets back round to you, making up to 0.20 is correct, no-one can come over the top of you.

    Flop

I don’t agree that the flop is good for you, not against one foe, definitely not against six.

You are almost certainly behind. You know you have to improve your hand, but you should think “improve to the best hand”. On the turn, of 47 cards, you have 3 outs to the nuts, 1 to a very good hand (though you may be losing to a flush), and 6 to a hand that’s more than likely to still be behind.

Against that, you complete the betting again. Ok, call. If you know that you’ll get paid off if one of your 3 good outs comes, then your implied odds are excellent. But, be aware that if you hit a good Ten, you have to hammer the turn, so that anyone on a flush draw doesn’t have odds to redraw on you.

    Turn / River

As Masterplan says, your foes seem real passive. I agree that you can raise the end. You’ll likely only get a reraise from a KT, and in that case, why did that player slowplay the turn?

  10. Re: what did i do wrong? Your mistake was, you didn't raise pre-flop. You had a good hand: a big pair, two cards eight or lower, two-suited. Your opponent got to see the flop, with garbage, for cheap. Some of these players are going to see the flop whether you raise or not, but you have to make them pay top dollar for the chance of winning with their garbage.

  11. Re: Jesse May and Pard Parkinson Jesse May is the most irritating person on TV, never mind just commentators. I hate the schoolgirl giggling, the massive volume increases whenever someone reraises, and the fact that he manages to see "WORLD CLASS POKER" in every other hand.

  12. Re: played this well i think Good point by glceud here. Big bet by Ak-Hi on the end might cause those hands to fold, so maybe his play wasn't as bad as I said. Nevertheless, sir auron, with QQ, played the hand very well indeed.

  13. Re: played this well i think I questioned your slowplay in your previous post, but the serial slowplay here I definitely like. You flop the nuts and there's very little chance that will change. If there's any chance that you will end up with less than the nuts, you'll have plenty of warning and can adjust accordingly. Poor play by your opponent, BTW. He loses to any Q or any J or KT. You found a fish and you reeled him in, slow and sure.

  14. Re: played badly or unlucky I'm no Ohama expert, but I would say: you were definitely unlucky, but you may also have played it badly. First, you were clearly unlucky on the river. When the chips went in on the turn, your opponents had two cards between them to beat you. Any of the other 34 cards on the river and you win. You had massive pot equity; they sucked out on you. On the other hand, why did you slow play the flop? You have the second nuts - you're only trailing only to pocket aces. Ak-Hi has made the maximum bet (I think), so he's likely going to see the turn whatever it costs. Raise him there and then - make him pay to play his garbage. I'm not saying that your slowplay was wrong, but you need to know why you did it. Perhaps your anxious not to cut off any overcall from campi1. Judging by his atrocious all-in on the turn, however, this guy stinks so bad that pot odds mean nothing to him. I don't think a flop raise will alter this guy's action one iota. It's a good hand to post, there are interesting questions there.

  15. Re: Cricket: 2007 World Cup - Discussion Thread What a thread. Got it all. nando, I know a bookie (well, retired bookie now) who christened his Jag Martingale. Pie-chucker, What price now your pre-tournament tip (picked out in bold!) to buy Ireland runs at 600. They might be over that already, seven games still to play, had they batted first vs Pakistan. When are you retiring? jibby6, Bold bets. The way Hayden's going, 165 might still not be beyond him.

  16. Re: Poker Tracker gotafancy Can't say I agree with your reason for playing on non-PT sites. The choice is: 1. Be a poor player, playing with other poor players - everyone poor because we can't analyse and therefore it's hard to improve. 2. Be a decent player, playing with other decent players - we can all analyse and improve. I'd choose the second option. I'm no worse off vis-a-vis my current opponents, and I'm a much better player in the grand scheme of things. Apart from anything else, just because all Crypto players can use PT doesn't mean they all do. You'll find just as many fish on Crypto as on any other site I've played. If you're willing to make use of PT to improve your game, you simply increase your advantage over these fish.

  17. Re: Poker Tracker My Pokertracker database is up to 50k hands now. It's such an important tool for analysing and improving your game that, if you're serious about your poker and Betfair doesn't support Pokertracker, you'd be best to switch to a site that does support it. Crypto sites (William Hill, Littlewoods, some others) support Pokertracker and have games at times to suit European players. You probably get a bonus from Betfair for playing their poker, but both the named sites give bonuses as well. Investigate.
