  1. Re: Sick of odds-on going down strategy... Taking Derby County's win away at Brighton, I think I have further proved a point to myself here... Looking down the list, there were a few tonight I pondered with, as favourites that could slip up, but decided against, just due to not having the bottle, namely... Inter Milan were vulnerable looking at 4/7 away, similar to Arsenal at Stoke, having seen them fail to win at home 0-0 a couple of weekends ago...and this proved correct. Rangers 4/11 at home to Dundee United Barcelona 1/9...! Werder Bremen 4/9 (seen them stutter recently) Rotherham have decent form and Leicester blowing hot and cold, plus it's Johnstone's Paint... Again, benefit of hindsight looks good...!

  3. ) Hi all Like many of you (no doubt) I've had the frustration of seeing my line destroyed by an odds-on "nailed-on banker" losing (especially away from home!). I've had enough and over the last few weeks I've been seeing this happen more and more and the 8 or so picks I have are starting to see more losses than wins. Case in point - Arsenal (4/9) away at Stoke. If I had the conviction to go for the home win, then it was as good as 5/1 or 6/1 in places. So, if I had got home in time last night I was going to try my system by laying off the favourites - Aston Villa (11/10) and Birmingham (4/7). Newcastle (2/1) and Birmingham (5/1) romped home and I missed out on a 17/1 double, but proved a point to myself and I'm going to try a bet this midweek to see how I get on. Generally, I'll be looking at the teams who have problems at home, but have odds at around 4/7 to Evs (so the odds for the draw and away are still generous...(Leicester spring to mind over the last few weeks - regularly 4/7 but some draws, a loss to Millwall, a late, late comeback at the weekend...MK Dons regularly fall behind...Clyde are shocking at home and the away team still gets generous odds) The potential for this to go t*ts up is pretty easy, but it's small stakes. The potential rewards, however, are pretty huge if you get it right. I'm going to try my first line this week, spanning 8 games over the course of the week, where I think that the favourite will not win. I'll do 8 selections and I'll start week 1 with an accumulator. All or nothing. I know many people don't like them, but doing 4-folds just adds so much to the outlay. I'll pick the teams I think will cause an upset and back the win or draw. 8 selections = 2x2x2x2x2x2x2x2 = 256 lines @ 5p = £12.80. If I get 8 right I could win anything between £200 and £5,000 (depending on the odds and the combination of draw or win, obviously!) I'll keep an update here. Fully expect that I won't get all 8 right, but for the first few weeks I'll see how many I get correct and adjust the 8-fold accordingly (to 4-folds maybe?) Happy to take some comments on this...appreciate all feedback! Regards JDBF :ok

  6. Re: Euro 2008 Acca's

Good luck! Looks like you've entered the high stakes already! :lol Will watch the results with interest! I'm contemplating a goalscorer acca with Owen and Healy at the hub as both players will need to score if their sides want to do well today.
I think that's a good shout Dj - think both will score myself! Good luck with yours as well... ;)
  7. Re: Euro 2008 Matches (Sep 8) Have to disagree with the above posts on Scotland. I'm sure Nastro will back me up here, but the fact that Hearts have made a bad start (5 points from 4 games, 1 win from 4) and they are not Top 4 does not make the game a mandatory 1-0 or 2-0 to Scotland. Scotland have Barry Ferguson and Kenny Miller missing (some may actually say this is good?) so will likely have O'Connor, Boyd &/or McFadden up front and, although they have all scored recently, they have a massive expectation on them. I would rather that Lithuania had to come out and win against us and have a real go, but I fear that they are out the equation and they will just put a load of men behind the ball and make it very difficult for Scotland to get the ball in behind them to create chances. Also, with Ferguson out, someone with the ability to create chances is limited as well. I would fully expect Scotland to just edge this normally, but I definitely won't be betting on it. In the last game at Hampden, Scotland beat Georgia 2-1 with a late, late goal from Craig Beattie, but for long periods od the second half we struggled to get into the game and we could have easily been 2-1 down, if Shota Arvaladze had taken his chances... All I am saying is that Scotland vs Hearts reserves is definitely not a foregone conclusion - in fact - I wouldn't be surprised if the Hearts players don't even make it to the starting XI, thus rendering this argument fruitless... :)

  9. Re: The 2007 Masters Golf Tournament Managed last night to get on the following at various stages of play. (All at Ladbrokes) Tiger Woods £20 @ 4/1 (On the last hole) Tiger Woods £20 @ 8/1 (Earlier, he was +5 at the time) Phil Mickelson £20 @ 50/1 (He was +6, I think?) Brett Wetterich £30 @ 8/1 (Johnson & Rose were leading) Vijay Singh £20 @ 4/1 (Evens at the time) Justin Rose £20 @ 12/1 (Hadn't started 2nd round) The prices at Ladbrokes for those, currently are: Tiger Woods 5/2 (Less than I did) Vijay Singh 4/1 (Same) Phil Mickelson 25/1 (Less) Brett Wetterich 14/1 (More) Justin Rose 16/1 (More) So, 2 better, 2 worse, 1 the same. Gives me a little bit of an interest...

  11. Re: The 2007 Masters Golf Tournament

That aside, I have just one bet: 3pts Hole In One? Yes @ 2.50 Betfair I don't have a very good reason for this really, except that I remember reading once that just over 50% of all majors have an ace. I read this over a year ago, so no idea where it's from (maybe that Betfair for dummies book?). Either way, it's a bet I always make.
Really like this bet, although have to be honest, I'd be expecting a lot higher than 2.50? I am tempted by it tho...:nana

Event: US Masters; 2007 US Masters
    Market: Tournament winner
    Selection: A Oberholser@100/1
    HERE ARE YOUR BETS:
    Single A Scott & A Oberholser
transpacer.gif2 lines x 2 at £5.00 per line (e/w) Total stake for this bet: £10.00
I've plumped for Adam Scott as he is in form after winning the Houston Open on Sunday and is highly priced for being No.3 in the World now. He does have a habit of finding the water on the 18th, but there is no water in the final hole on this course. He doesn't have a good record at Augusta, having only one Top Ten finish in 5 appearances, but he is in confident form. Oberholser, on the other hand, is a big e/w price of 100/1. Best finish was 14th (as this was his only attempt!) and last year won his first PGA Tour title, winning the 2006 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-AM. I will be waiting for the inevitable half a dozen wildcard players that go out like a bullet in Round 1 and card low scores, pushing Tiger down the list as he has a mediocre start and when he goes out past 3/1 I will lump £500 on him if he is within 8 shots of the lead at the halfway stage. You can, of course, get better odds than this, however, I've gone for the above at Ladbrokes.
