  1. Re: Half Kill WTF?

Thanks for the info guys' date=' so basically its a tax on the good players ? - I can't see why anyone would want to play it ?[/quote'] Agreed...it's easy to see it that way. General strategy is to tighten up after winning a pot so that it's 'harder' for you to activate the kill. However, if it does happen, it's a pot builder and you have the LAST action as the bet is LIVE so that can help as well. Remember, this is LIMIT hold'em and in Vegas that tends to be NO-FOLD'EM at the lower levels (Tourist fish! - Yum Yum). :nana At the higher LIMITS of Limit (if you see what I mean) there might be fewer callers. :hope Primarily though, the KILL games are for the Omaha variants but Hold'Em with a 'Kill' is still available in most Vegas poker rooms.
  2. Re: The Real Hustle

Caught this on TV a couple of nights ago and just found the clip online. A couple of faces you might recognise - Matt Dale and our own (and LPM's) Prowler. No idea what variant they are playing though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mrV883fQT0
In fact, other than Matt, the other players were all LPM (except for the RH guys). It was set up by Prowler (who was in on it). They were playing Dealer's Choice but the actual 'sting' game was 5 Card Stud with 1 draw. Quote of the Night from Matt (Donk) Dale ;) was "That's impossible...Oh, right...it isn't". :rollin A couple of points, just in case you think the LPM are complete nutballs, the pot was nowhere NEAR £1200...it was more like £120 and the RH guys were called on it and then 'owned up'. A bit of TV editing goes a long way!!
  3. Re: Half Kill WTF?

I'm just reading a few reviews of live vegas poker rooms and see a game decribed as '$6/$12 Half Kill' Whats that all about ??
Ok...here goes. In 'Kill' LIMIT games in Vegas (usually)..the winner of two consecutive pots is required to post an additional blind regardless of their position relative to the button. In a 'Full Kill' game, this is twice the BB, in a 'Half Kill' game, it is 1.5 the BB. Therefore in a $4/$8 game, the BB is $4. So the 'Half Kill' blind would be $6 and in a 'Full Kill' game it's $8. (Or something like that...you get the idea) I think the post-flop betting is still $4/$8 but options vary from room to room. Also, IIRC, the Kill blind is LIVE. Finally, the 'Kill' option remains effective until the player who 'activated' the 'Kill' by winning 2 pots in a row loses a pot. Whew! :unsure
  4. Re: Showdowns

Daft question I'm sure' date=' but why is it that in Cash games when there's an all-in scenario that the cards aren't shown til after the river, but in tournaments they are flipped over when the money is in the pot?[/quote'] Frankly, I'm not sure of the PRECISE reasons, but I would think one of them is to avoid any collusion (chip dumping). In a tournament, the best hand after an all-in will always take the pot and this can be seen by all of the players at the table. Alternatively, in a cash game, if someone wants to say "I'm beat" after a showdown, they can say so, muck their cards and it's only their money being lost. Plus they don't have to reveal their cards to show what they were playing with. However, if someone shoves and gets called then (I think) the caller has the right to see the other players hand. Not sure on that one but I think so.
  5. Re: London Poker MeetUp Friday Game Details

....in the coming months' date=' adding poker variants (Omaha, O8, Stud etc) to the Friday game.[/quote'] As it so happens, in addition to our regular Friday Night game we are adding a Bank Holiday Special. We will be running an Pot Limit Omaha 8 (thats Hi/Lo) tournament at Fern Lodge on Good Friday. Start Time: 1 pm (ish) Game: Pot Limit Omaha Hi/Lo (Freezeout) Buy-in: £20 Starting Stack: T5000 Blind Levels: 30min (25/50 then up) Why not pop along and stay for both tourneys? Plenty of side action available including some really sick poker variants!
  6. Re: London Poker MeetUp Friday Game Details

As for Team Turmoil...AFAIK it's still in planning stages although our Events Calendar is increasingly full between now and our "LPM does Vegas" trip in mid-July both for the WSOP Main Event and the APAT World Championship. :nana I'll check with the Team Turmoil organiser and see where we are.
Ok....we're VERY tentatively pencilling in Sunday 24th June 2007. VERY much in the early planning stages at the moment.
  7. Re: London Poker MeetUp Friday Game Details

ty for the info, when i get a friday free,i would deffo be interested...:ok
Excellent..we're also looking to expand by adding a weekly Wednesday Game and, in the coming months, adding poker variants (Omaha, O8, Stud etc) to the Friday game.
by the way, what ever happened to the challenge from a few months ago that got cancelled (i think),???
IIRC, APAT Wales intruded and, since we sent a fairly large contingent, we had to call it off. Unfortunately, since APAT can't release details of their 'Championships' until quite near the dates we often have clashing diaries. Indeed, APAT Scotland clashes with our monthly Player of the Year competion in April. (Hopefully, APAT will be able to offer firm dates & venues for Season 2 well in advance so that we can plan more effectively)...Des...you listening, mate? ;) As for Team Turmoil...AFAIK it's still in planning stages although our Events Calendar is increasingly full between now and our "LPM does Vegas" trip in mid-July both for the WSOP Main Event and the APAT World Championship. :nana I'll check with the Team Turmoil organiser and see where we are.
  8. On this subject, I'll stick in a word for the London Poker Meetup's regular Friday night Game. Where: Fern Lodge 118 Gauden Road Clapham London SW4 6LU (near to Clapham North underground) Venue: The Clapham Game is held in a working mens club, with club prices (cheap!) and a decent friendly atmosphere. Hot pies of the Pukka sort available and usual bar snacks, no problem bringing a bite to eat with you. The Game: No Limit Holdem, freeze out, £10 buy-in for 2,500 in chips, 20 minute levels. blinds starting at 25/50. Cards in the air at 8.15 sharp, late finish, last tube just after midnight. Prize split depending on pool and numbers. We usually have over 50 runners with the most in recent weeks of 70. The first 70 will be seated with any extras on a waiting list, within recent weeks all players seated by end of first level (20 mins). Side games available. Event fee: GBP1.00 per person

  9. Re: Laying down AA first hand

Unless he is extremely lucky you are in the box seat with a double pot to win...The odds justify the call. As GAF says it is a split pot at worst all going well...What's the difference between the first hand and the fiftieth hand, if you are scared to bet the first hand when odds are in your favour, then you will be scared to bet the fitieth hand when the odds are in your favour. I believe you have to have belief in your game and play your hand as it is, whether it is first hand or last hand..It defies logic that anyone would fold when the percentages are so much in theor favour, especially the best 2 cards. Call him, get rid of him, and one less person you have to worry about...if he flukes a hand that puts you out, then put it down to a bad beat...Percentages say you will win around 80% of the time apparently, and that's a great percentage for me to take on.
    Erm...what he said! :tongue2
  10. Re: Laying down AA first hand

You LPM'ers dont know your odds very well do you? :tongue2 KK v AA would be 5% (assuming 2 outs) with one card to come ..... Here it is pre flop, so we are talking 20% for the KK to win the hand (sometimes a K will fall, but the A will also hit ..... KK can win with straights and flushes too ....) - The AA will lose 1 time in 5, which is quite high!! The Aces winning certainly arent a given, buy you're getting not far off even money for an 80% shot.....
"I refer the honourable gentleman to the answer I gave a few moments ago"
So, you're either in front to KK or drawing even on AA. Either way, barring a RRRR straight or flush, you're probably safe. If it's KK and he hits his 5%(?) so be it.
  11. Re: Laying down AA first hand

My question was.... 'If you had bought into a major tournament (say the main event) and you got dealt AA first hand, you raise 5 or 6 BB's and 1 person goes all in, everyone else has folded, its just you and him what would you do?'
Let's not forget that the 'random' hand issue isn't a factor in this particular instance. The other guy has ALSO gone All-in first hand after you raised him a significant amount. Unless he's a complete muppet he's only gonna have one of two hands....KK or AA. Actually, I think he's a muppet if he has less than AA but that's another issue! So, you're either in front to KK or drawing even on AA. Either way, barring a RRRR straight or flush, you're probably safe. If it's KK and he hits his 5%(?) so be it. My SB worth....Call!
  12. Re: Omaha Draws I keep seeing references to the others "'having the odds to call" I don't see this. The current pot is $5K and you are first to act. You have the current nut hand but there are draws out there. You MUST not give anyone odds to call (or rather, if they do call, they do it against the odds). You are worried about flushes. The odds of them hitting are around 5:1 so, you MUST bet the size of the pot and if they are call, they are making a 5:1 bet to claim a 3:1 pot. As such they are calling against the odds. Secondly, you are making a statement, "I have a great hand", they have to be thinking not only about the current pot bet but the NEXT one too if their card doesn't come. If they don't hit, you have to pot it AGAIN. The odds for the straight draws are even worse.

  13. Re: APAT Announce Welsh Amateur Poker Championship

The reason in an email to me by Des was that he didnt want a clickfest yet the subsequent ones have been just that.
Yes, this subject has come up before, and will probably do so again. Obviously until the UK has a casino/cardroom big enough to host a significant portion of those interested (Dusk 'Til Dawn?...good luck :hope Rob) the APAT click-fest is destined to continue in some shape or form. When I last spoke to Des :notworthy (during the online qualifiers...and on other forums), he said that they are trying to expand the ways of entry and the recent live and online qualifiers are an extension of that. I think we can look to see more of the same. Also, you might have noticed that there has been significantly less 'chatter' about this tourney...it's not being hyped quite as much, this may lead to the seats being taken up at a much reduced rate. Not that it won't sell out, mind. :D
I am still suspicious how the LPM lot keep getting seats - look they have even booked their hotels ;) (thanks Paulie:ok)
Honestly, nothing to be suspicious about, otherwise we'd have a LOT more people in the tourney. No matter how many hints I drop to Des, he won't open a special LPM section of the APAT site with seats on sale 15 mins early. As for the hotels, we always book with a view to cancelling in case we don't get seats. Costs nothing to be certain of having a room and, sometimes, it's cheaper too!
  14. Re: APAT Announce Welsh Amateur Poker Championship

I've never been to one of these APAT events and never really fancied it because they dont seem to be that organised. However, I was thinking of going for this but thought I'd check out the hotel situation first... NOT A DICKIE!!!... even the local travelinn is charging £154!!. It seems APAT have organised this the same weekend as the Carling Cup Final :lol So I'll be giving it a miss, just be aware (unless you live local) it will cost you a lot more than £75!!
I HAVE attended an APAT event (Newcastle) and the event itself was very well organised. A cracking weekend was had by all. As for the actual timing and other stuff of the event, APAT had to contend with the fact that their choices in Wales for venues of sufficient size was limited and that the Six Nations Rugby and the Carling Cup pretty much screwed up the diary Not only that but negotiations with casinos take time and can break down for the silliest of things and other, seemingly minor points, can get overlooked. No-one is to blame here, putting one of these events together is a herculean task and, too often, Des, TK and the rest of the APAT team get little of the credit they deserve. APAT is still in it's infancy and, to it's credit, has ambitions beyond the 100-200 seaters that it has been able to arrange so far. As for a hotel, my group have booked http://www.quality-hotels-cardiff.com/ at c£75 a night (single or double). It's only a few miles from the city centre which, if you are mob-handed, is pennies for taxis. As far as I know, they still have rooms. Hope to see you there. :cheers
  15. Re: Saturday 24th February - Clapham - Team Turmoil We're looking at dates now but our weekend calendar is pretty full for ages (at least for February AND March)..it lightens up (so far) in April. Possiblity of moving it to 24th March....but...I suspect that APAT Scotland may intrude. :hope I want to stress that I haven't heard anything from our APAT sources but just looking at their schedule that seems a reasonable guesstimate but, who knows?

  16. Re: APAT Welsh Open - Any info? Swampster. From what I can gather from Blonde Poker forum the dates are still not yet set in stone. However, from comments made (date ranges of 2-4 or 9-11 February were mentioned), this might actually be a 3-day event which might reduce the room size requirement. Location is still a secret (at least to me) but will ask around at Jim's game on Friday. See you there? Paulie.

  17. Re: MTT bubble strategy As I see it, you only really have two options: Fold and play it safe, or Raise I see no point in calling as he HAS to continue the bet on the flop and you still won't know where you are. Let's not forget, YOU HAVE A HAND. I'd come over the top for another 4K and see what happens. If he's stealing then he'll probaby fold there and then, remember he does want to lose chips either and, as you said, it's his standard bullying raise. You have to bet enough to get him off without hurting yourself. If he calls, you still have the flop and a fair to middling hand. If he re-raises you put him on a monster, fold and you still have enough chips to get you through.

  18. Re: APAT Newcastle Hotel and Travel Info Thread

EDIT: Managed to Book the Quality Hotel for the Friday Night. No Luck on the Sat though.
The Royal Station Hotel (2 doors down from the station) has Sat/Sun for an average of £68 per night (via http://www.hotels.co.uk). It's about 5/10 min walk from Aspers and across from the Thistle, which I understand will be full of PL's and LPM'ers (inc. yours truly). :cheers
