1. Re: latest Boss update How are the resizable tables on Boss? This was one of the major issues I had with the software and why I didn't stick around when I cleared my bonus. Do the resizable tables have full detail or are they enlarged versions of the mini-view tables? I found the mini-view tables virtually unplayable if I remember correctly. Thanks, Rob

2. Re: betfair poker is dire ah didnt notice how old the thread was! :$ Still I feel the need to vent about how bad Boss is every now and again, just wanna finish the bonus and be done there. Although I do wish I could take a few of the terrible players with me!

3. Re: betfair poker is dire

why can't anyone match boss for gameplay/simplicity/multi-table ease/and muppetts:) know boss has its faults but it is way the best gameplay for me
Look at Boss/ Paradise to see how a poker site should be run. Used to play Prima mostly (ok) and Betfred (I also like ), but tbh Boss actually have it spot on nowadays.
Damn are you guys serious? Boss is easily the worst software I've ever played. It's like playing in the dark ages, as I've said before. No resizable tables, laggy software that often crashes, a rubbish lobby with no decent filters, hardly any traffic, hand histories that don't signify between different currencies, etc, etc. It's awful even the people at Paradise and other skins recognise that but they say the actual changes implemented by the Boss network will take a while. Surprised you guys are satisfied with it compared to the likes of stars and full tilt. And smaller site wise prima is a hell of a lot better than boss.
4. Re: Stealing blinds in cash games I don't really even see it as "blind stealing" its just positional play. Very important in cash games though. I find it useful to vary my opening raise size around the table - opening to the smallest amount on the button. This way you can open a wider range and also be able to 4-bet bluff, or call 3-bets more profitably.

5. Re: Curious Sharkscope figures I've seen one once where the persons "Average profit" or rather average loss, was more than their average stake. Was quite an odd one, obviously works in a similar way to the negative average ROI. Strange phenomenon though.

6. Re: Sick Dilemma II

Just added to my post regarding the deepness of the stacks. By solid I don't mean a rock. I've played him a few times and he is ABC like I say. Good for the level - 75% of players are terrible online at this level as you probably know. Surprised you see cut and dry though. Or 'standard'.
It's a tough fold to make, but logically there is no way a decent player with a deep stack is 3-betting trips and top kicker on this flop against another big stack. I know a lot of people would just think "full house" and shovel their money in there, but really for what would be about a 500 BB pot, stacking off here is bad.
7. Re: Futile? I never understand why there is this conflict between "maths" and "reads" or "feel" as if the two are mutually exclusive. In fact they compliment eachother and one is not as effective without the other. In a given hand, you need the ability to hand read to put a player on a range of hands given their actions, betsizing, timing, history etc. Then you must work out your equity against this range by using maths estimations. If you are ahead of his range you work out how to best extract value from it, if you are behind you need to decide whether your line is strong enough and whether you have fold equity to take them off their hand, or if you have enough equity to make a call. A very crude description, but still use of "maths" and "reads". I constantly get the feeling here that the "old guard", if you will, think the younger players can only do maths and use software. Not sure why this is, but personally I think I am a good hand reader and am successful at heads up cash/sngs, 6 max cash in omaha and hold 'em and I make the use of both "maths" and "feel". I just don't segregate them from eachother like a lot of players seem to, I use every edge and skill available to me.

8. Re: Awkward hands

Nobody think he's desperate on the river? I've raised him on the flop and bet the turn' date=' so he could think there's a good chance I'll bet the river too. That's the impression his all in gave me.[/quote'] Not saying specifically you, but a lot of players at 50nl and players in general don't value bet anywhere near thin enough. You will find a lot of these weaker players checking behind on scary rivers, like the one in your hand. So if they do hit their draw on the river shoving into the better is definitely the best line. His range really is air or an 8 in this hand, and you just have to use your reads on him thus far to make the decision to call or not. But yeah definitely bet more on the turn to avoid these spots in future. Here's a similar hand I had yesterday: Seat 1: Button ($187.61) Seat 2: SB ($182.99) Seat 3: BB ($150.00) Seat 4: Villain ($135.04) Seat 5: Hero ($515.25) *** HOLE CARDS *** Dealt to Hero [2h 2s] Villain raises $3.00 Hero calls $3.00 Button calls $3.00 SB calls $3.00 BB folds *** FLOP *** [Ah Kc 2c] SB checks Villain bets $10.12 Hero raises $30.00 BB folds SB folds Villain calls $30.00 *** TURN *** [Ah Kc 2c] [Qs] Villain checks Hero bets $52.00 Villain calls $52.00 *** RIVER *** [Ah Kc 2c Qs] [4c] Villain goes all-in with $50.04 Hero calls $50.04 *** SUMMARY *** Total pot $274.58 | Rake $3.00 Board: [Ah Kc 2c Qs 4c] Hero won ($0.00), mucks Villain won ($274.58), showed [Tc 8c] The turn bet just means that a call with the flush draw + gutshot was pretty bad, I thought he/she could have something like AK or AQ and obviously a flush draw. I think the river is always a call with the amount in the pot. So totally happy with how I played it.
9. Re: Awkward hands Bet more on the turn so that you have no decision on the river. The pot is $24.37 on the turn, bet about $19. That will make the pot $62.37 on the river and your stack would be $28.99. This makes the call never an issue and gets more money from your opponent. As played I would imagine he does have an 8 as that is the only draw on the turn giving him a double gutter. Still whether the river is a call or not depends on your reads on the player.

10. Re: Implied Odds

If he was to put you AI on the flop it'd look a lot like they had AdKd. It would be a tough call anyway, i'd probably wince whilst calling... Don't think there's anything wrong with the way you played the hand, only there might be a little more value in shoving.
Would be very hard (impossible even) to put him on a range that tight. I am always getting it all in on this flop, always. It's not even about "Implied Odds", its about equity and against virtually all his range you are favourite. I put up a few combo draws in Nade's 'Biggest Winning & Losing Hands Thread" as I always seem to miss them with 76s.
11. Re: is a reraise here ever right? Don't think there is any value to be had in reraising this flop. There are no draws at all bar gutshots and you fold out a lot of hands which would fire again on the turn. People do tend to spazz out a bit on paired boards, especially if you are an aggressive player. They think the board is very dry, so it probably didn't hit you and raise a lot. I think my default line with your hand would be, bet flop, call raise, check/raise turn, depending on his turn bet size.

12. Re: River Play

It's a speculative call, late position to see a cheap flop, no one has raised in front of me, only a single caller. According to Poker Tracker I play a semi loose agressive agressive style, I'll see some cheap flops and attempt to steal if I sense weakness. The TAG thing works fine in tournements and you can play the harrington stuff, but at low limit cash I think agression is key and I'm happy to see a very cheap flop with a raggy ace. Even If I totally miss the flop, if no one has bet before me, or it looks like an obvious C bet, more often than not I'm ramming a pot sized bet into the flop to take it down. Too agressive ?
Ha ha no, too passive. I personally very, very rarely limp the button. I never open limp it of course but overlimping wise, I would never overlimp with a raggy offsuit ace. If you raise the button here, thats fine, but limping it just seems to serve no purpose. Edit: and as for pokertrackers default player categories I wouldn't read into them. They are very outdated and perhaps just totally wrong in some cases. For example, it says in the "more detail" section that an aggression factor of less than 0.7 is passive and more than 1.5 is aggressive. When personally I regard anything under 3.0 I regard as pretty passive these days.
13. Re: River Play No one like a preflop fold here? :unsure As played, raise more on flop, if he has A he is probably coming along anyway. Make it $3.50 at the very least or $4. Bet more on turn to make any river decision easier. As played to river, I agree with the "less than half pot bet and probably fold to a shove without reads". The call pre is without doubt the worst action in the hand though. There's no need to be making positional calls with raggy offsuit aces.

14. Re: Holdem manager/PT3 Huds Not sure exactly what stakes are your mainstays mole, but on Boss there are without doubt some bad players at 5/10 and 10/20 especially in comparison to tougher sites like Full Tilt. As for table selection, Boss has so little traffic that I imagine there isn't much choice really.

15. Re: Holdem manager/PT3 Huds Ha I really don't don't know what to say, but here goes...

So its ok for some to have certain tools in a game that others dont? It might be a freely available tool but not everyone is aware of it.
Unequivocally, yes! It's a game of edges, you must take every edge you can obtain without breaking the rules. Pokertracker doesn't break the rules (the sites allow and support it) therefore I will take this edge. It's a dog eat dog world.
Secondly I don't think themole has ever said that the software is bad, just that he doesn't use it, which is totally his choice.
I made this point because you seemed to extrapolate something from the_mole's comments which he didn't say or imply:
You mean poker is'nt just a computer game played by mindless computer nerds with out the intellegence to form opinions of there own? Indeed so characterless that they resort to a form of cheating to defraud those who still regard gambling as a matter of honour?
As for this:
I am intellegent enough to see the benefits of the software for those of you without the level of intellegence required to play at higher levels.
I honestly think I could beat higher levels than I play as I am a big winner at everything from 10nl to 200nl thus far (I have only been playing a year). But I am a student, who applies bankroll management, when I have a comfortable bankroll to play higher I probably will. Out of wonder what stakes does an amazing non cheating player like yourself play?
Anyway, pokertracker-like-software is by no means cheating. It is not "cheating to defraud those who still regard gambling as a matter of honour", whatever that stupid statement means.
Pokertracker and similar software does not tell you what cards will come out of the deck, it is not an unfair advantange. It tells you readily available information (you could work it out with pen and paper if you really wanted to). Therefore the intellectual challenge you desire is still there. So don't try and attack my integrity by labelling me a cheat. As for learning more in "the real world" I tend to think the opposite. I can play 600 hands an hour online, whereas live I can play less than a tenth of that in an hour. More hands = move experience = learning more.
16. Re: Holdem manager/PT3 Huds

Ok surely this is a distraction as you should have enough to think about. Your decisions should be made at the time, taking all the factors of the hand into account.Things that happened previously will rarely come into it. I am playing devils advocat here but i am curious about it. I cannot see how it would help me at all.
Yeah definitely I agree that game flow is very important, but not the only thing. Humans are creatures of habit, and I think often people will have more standard lines and ranges for making moves. For instance if you look through a database, you may realise that a certain player value bets very light against you (eg. he will value bet QJ on a J high drawy board for 3 streets of value against you) this means you could check raise all in on the river as a bluff if a draw hits as you know his range for betting the river is fairly wide and can't call a shove. By reviewing hands and using filters in pokertracker you can get a good idea of how regulars play their hands. Obviously sometimes the way they play will be effected by the flow of the game (more so at your stakes than mine perhaps), but you can definitely find trends in a players lines. Maybe the HUD display you would find distracting but I think as a retrospective view on hands you have played, you may find it Pokertracker useful. Simply just to go over any mistakes or weird moves that you made or saw. However, Pokertracker isn't as useful on Boss as it is on many other sites as you don't see mucked holecards in the hand histories.
17. Re: Holdem manager/PT3 Huds

You mean poker is'nt just a computer game played by mindless computer nerds with out the intellegence to form opinions of there own? Indeed so characterless that they resort to a form of cheating to defraud those who still regard gambling as a matter of honour? Unfortunatley mate you are one of an elite band who are still more intellegent than the widely available software. So while you may not benefit the other 99% of us would, or do as the case may be. Maybe in a couple of years the software will have surpassed your ability too, but dont worry, I cant see too many live games allowing you to plug a P.C in at the table to make your desicions for you.
This must be one of the most stupid ignorant replies I've ever seen. Firstly pokertracker and similar programs are not cheating in anyway, they just display information which is already given and seen in the play. Secondly I don't think themole has ever said that the software is bad, just that he doesn't use it, which is totally his choice. I'd guess the reason he chooses not too, I may be completely wrong, is because he (a) doesn't multitable in large quantities as he plays quite high stakes and (b) because he is successful playing the way he has been so doesn't feel the need to change. I still think he could benefit from using pokertracker though. Even just to review hands after a game. By doing this he could see common lines used by his opponents with certain hands and find the main leaks that the regulars at his stakes have. And for a very nominal fee it seems worth a go. Anyway, pokertracker-like-software is by no means cheating. It is not "cheating to defraud those who still regard gambling as a matter of honour", whatever that stupid statement means. As for being "more intellegent than the widely available software", the fact that you are not intelligent enough to see the benefits of the software (or spell "intelligent") speaks volumes. As for live games, having the knowledge that pokertracker gives you, it is easier to work out people's opening ranges, how often they are folding to c-bets etc. As you can imagine it like a % estimate and apply that knowledge in a given hand. So we manage just fine without the PC plugged in, thanks.
18. Re: Your Biggest Winning & Losing Hands? Thought I'd dig this thread up as I was going through pokertracker tonight. And because my biggest losing hand just got worse. This is a new database of just Boss hands. My biggest winners are AA and KK no surprises there. But my biggest loser by far is 67s. No leaks with it though. I just run bad with it at the moment, you can see the main losers below. 76s dealt 57 times Net = -$320.42 :unsure Hand 1: Super standard really, I get it in with 50.40% equity and should be some fold equity there. I mean personally I would have to think twice about calling with bottom 2 here as 98 is easily in my range and flipping vs combo draws. (Not saying I wouldn't call mind) Seat 2: Hero ($160.00) Seat 3: Villain ($224.45) Seat 4: Button ($130.97) Villain posts the big blind of $1.00 Hero posts the small blind of $0.50 *** HOLE CARDS *** Dealt to Hero [6s 7s] Button calls $1.00 Hero calls $1.00 Villain checks *** FLOP *** [3s 8s 9c] Hero bets $3.00 Villain raises $11.00 Button calls $11.00 Hero goes all-in with $159.00 Villain goes all-in with $223.45 Button folds *** TURN *** [3s 8s 9c] [8h] *** RIVER *** [3s 8s 9c 8h] [Kd] *** SUMMARY *** Total pot $329.00 | Rake $3.00 Board: [3s 8s 9c 8h Kd] Hero won ($0.00), mucks Villain won ($329.00), showed [8c 3d] Hand 2: Reverse the rolls this time. I'm a little behind equity wise, but I think my hand is well disguised (as I raised with 67s UTG) and all that has me crushed is K7 (unlikely), 66 or 77 (I have a 6 and a 7 so again unlikely). His shove is fine and my call is standard, this time the combo draw wins and I lose again :puke. More Sklansky bucks that need cashing... Seat 1: BB ($98.00) Seat 2: Hero ($107.18) Seat 3: Cut Off ($137.72) Seat 4: Button ($194.67) Seat 5: Villain ($171.43) Villain posts the small blind of $0.50 BB posts the big blind of $1.00 *** HOLE CARDS *** Dealt to Hero [7s 6s] Hero raises $3.50 Cut Off calls $3.50 Button calls $3.50 Villain calls $3.50 BB folds *** FLOP *** [6d 7h Kd] Villain checks Hero bets $12.00 Cut Off folds Button calls $12.00 Villain goes all-in with $167.93 Hero goes all-in with $103.68 Button folds *** TURN *** [6d 7h Kd] [5h] *** RIVER *** [6d 7h Kd 5h] *** SUMMARY *** Total pot $231.36 | Rake $3.00 Board: [6d 7h Kd 5h Td] Hero won ($0.00), mucks Villain won ($231.36), showed [8d 7d] Hand 3 From the $50nl tables. Pretty simple button squeeze pre, as UTG raiser is loose (as well as bad). Flop open ended straight flush draw, can't really jsut shove to secure equity cause that's kinda stupid and loses value. Get called have to shove turn odds wise, he tanks and calls with, well, a terrible hand that should have seen the muck pre. I fail to improve again... (I could check behind on the turn but against this player I belive he may even just have something like A10 which he would dump on the turn or a flush draw he could dump or the like.) Seat 1: SB ($86.55) Seat 2: BB ($28.70) Seat 3: Villain ($71.45) Seat 4: Cut Off ($26.65) Seat 5: Hero ($50.00) SB posts the small blind of $0.25 BB posts the big blind of $0.50 *** HOLE CARDS *** Dealt to Hero [7s 6s] UTG raises $2.00 Cut Off calls $2.00 Hero raises $8.00 SB folds BB folds Villain calls $8.00 Cut Off folds *** FLOP *** [9s Jc 8s] Villain checks Hero bets $16.00 Villain calls $16.00 *** TURN *** [9s Jc 8s] [Kd] Villain checks Hero goes all-in with $26.00 Villain calls $26.00 *** RIVER *** [9s Jc 8s Kd] [6h] *** SUMMARY *** Total pot $99.75 | Rake $3.00 Board: [9s Jc 8s Kd 6h] Villain won ($99.75), showed Hero won ($0.00), showed [7s 6s] So in short 67s owes me money big time! And I'm not talkin Sklansky bucks.

19. Re: How am I perceived at the table?

Thanks everyone - some fantastic comments here - although I havent responded to them all - I've read them all, and am digesting everything (the thread is being printed off before I leave) - with a bit of luck you wont recognise me when I return :tongue2 Watched the start - looks interesting - though "tutorial videos" that 4 table and jump from table to table really are not good for learning from :loon I wish he'd done it with one table, with a bit more discussion/rambling to fill the gaps - would have been far easier to follow what's going on.....
One table videos I personally find a waste of time as over half the hands are just standard folds, no explanation needed. I think his explanations are good here and the few funny moments like the J high hand. He's a good player though, one of the biggest winners at 400nl on full tilt or something as I remember. Still like I say be careful getting too aggressive on Boss as there is generally just less fold equity imo. Whereas full tilt is full of nitty 15-20% vpip players. Also for me personally, I play LAG style mostly, I think it is still controlled aggression and a lot about handreading and fold equity. One of the problems with Boss is that it doesn't work with pokerace HUD, so you don't have fold to 3-bet stats, or fold to c-bet stats, which make playing LAG a lot easier. And Nade beating a good LAG player really isn't as easy as you make out.
20. Re: My HU Hand history A few more hands that you could play different: 1136205253 BB Kc6s 1500/3000 300 Ante 32,278 77,222 Opponent Completes, I check, Flop 9d4d2c, I check, oppoenent bets 3xpot, I fold In this hand I may raise his limp, he seems to be completing a lot. 1136206402 BB 9d6d 1500/3000 300 Ante 35,278 74,222 Opponent Completes, I check, flop Ac4c2c, I check, opponenet bets, I fold In this hand I check/raise because he will be raising any A pre, and a check/raise can fold out any 4 or 2 and I'd imagine he'd be raising pre with a Q certainly a K so he probably won't have that strong of a flush draw if it all. If he calls you probably have to give up. 1136208608 BB Qs3c 2000/4000 400 Ante 25,578 83,922 Opponent Completes, I check, flop 7s7c7d, I check, Opponent goes all in This hand I think you could possibly open-push the flop yourself as again he's probably not limping a pair, a K or an A. And you can conceivably have a K here. Not saying you should play them like this though, just a suggestion with hindsight.

21. Re: My HU Hand history I think when your low on chips some of your decisions are wrong, I tend to use the SAGE system when I get low and its effective in the HU sit and goes I play, although the calling from the BB bit does depend on how frequently your opponent pushes. If you google you will find articles on it. So these hands I play differently to you: 1136209889 SB/Button Qh4h 2000/4000 400 Ante 21,178 88,322 I folded Should be a shove, you have 5.3 BBs and by SAGE Q4s is an easy push 1136210507 SB/Button Tc9s 2000/4000 400 Ante 23,178 86,322 I complete, Opponent goes all in, I fold Dunno why you are completing with 5.8 BBs again this is an easy shove by SAGE. The J6o is also a shove, and then the 97o at the end is a marginal shove but a possible fold.
