Re: Monterosso's Specialisation - Winning! (+74pts) 2:50 Haydock - Green Moon - 3pts @ 5/1 (Bet365) Extremely progressive 3 year old who has lots more to come, destroyed Monterosso in a handicap when beating him by 4 lengths, went on to win a Listed race quite handsomely after that but flopped last time out when 7l behind Monterosso at Ascot, possibly found the trip a bit of a stretch and back down to just over 10f now which is ideal. He runs here only carrying 8st 8lbs and has a great jockey in Neil Callan on board. Callan hit a dry spell for a few weeks but notched up a treble at Brighton yesterday and seems to have found his rhythm again. This horse won hist Listed race on similar ground to what he'll have tomorrow and time-wise he's faster in the final furlong that Paco Jack who has an electric turn of foot. He has had nearly two month off the track and should strip better for having a break, the trainer seemed quite confident when interviewed and I think there's a lot more to come from this horse. Seems great value at 5/1 and I feel he has a better chance than the odds suggest. I'll be surprised if he doesn't go fairly well and warrants a medium sized bet for me.

Re: Monterosso's Specialisation - Winning! (+74pts)

3:10 Newmarket - Spirit Of Sharjah - 1pt e/w @ 22/1 (Bet365) Another longshot, but one that I think has a solid enough chance. Got no luck in running on last two outings, had to switch his run last time out and ran on well near the end to be 3 1/2 lengths behind St Moritz in 7th. He has since had a month off and should strip better for that little rest and with a top class 7lb claimer on board I feel that weight and the jockeys abilities can see him go very close if getting those gaps. He has won in Listed company before and is back to a turf mark that I feel he can be competitive off, especially with the 7lbs taken off his back. It looks a tough race to call but there are many doubts to be had about numerous members of the field with many seemingly out of form and a few stepping up in class. This fellow certainly has the ability to make a mockery of this price and is rarely beaten by far. If he gets the gaps I'm adamant he'll place at least, it's a doubtful if in such a large field but with 4 places paid I think he's certainly worth a small each way bet. Would be surprised if he goes off anywhere near 22/1.
I was also keeping my eye on this one. Looks like the winner, but the trainer's form puts me off a bit and you could make a case for another couple of runners. Ew is good advice :ok

Re: Monterosso's Specialisation - Winning! (+74pts) Bank - 164.03pts (+64.03pts) Bets - 127 Wins - 24 Placed - 31 SR - 19% Staked - 228.5pts Returned - 292.53pts Dropped a nice bit of the bank over a couple of days, not having a good run. My town's festival is on for the next week and I'm taking a much needed break, hopefully come back rejuvenated and full of winners. Much thanks to anyone who has looked and commented, hopefully I can pick up where I was and quit losing! :cry

Re: Monterosso's Specialisation - Winning! (+64pts) Sorry SER, just one of those days for me! Football went well though, thanks to the mighty Kris Commons. :notworthy I just need a little break from it, and I'll be out for the week solid anyways so won't get time to gamble so it's a win win for me.

Re: Monterosso's Specialisation - Winning! (+64pts) Just a small one to start me off again! :hope 4:20 Beverley - Norwegian Dancer - 1pt @ 7/1 (Boylesports) A few pounds below last winning mark, shaping as if a return to form is close and there has been a few quid for it today. Gibbons is on board and he has been in great form this season and is one of the few jockeys showing a level stakes profit. He has been on this one before and went close so he should know how to get the best out of it. Ground and trip are ideal, trainer form is decent over the last couple of months and it has been backed all day. Should have a good chance of going close.

Re: Monterosso's Specialisation - Winning! (+64pts) 3:40 Pontefract - Anglezarke - 1pt e/w @ 14/1 (Bet365) Plenty of speed and ability but hasn't shown her best since coming back this year, placed in a Group 1 last year and was just pipped in a Group 2 also, conditions to suit with the ground being ideal and the blinkers should re-kindle the former flame in her. She's from the Richard Fahey yard and his horses have been running well of late and with the in form Paul Hanagan on board she has an even better chance. Finished well behind some of these last time out but things should be more in her favour today and at 14/1 she seems a massive price, blinkers should help her gain interest again and a return to 75% of her previous form and she'll go well. Still relatively un-exposed for a 4 year old with only 14 career starts and I think she'll go well. Small each way bet at big odds.

Re: Monterosso's Specialisation - Winning! (+64pts) Here's a couple of quick ones, not fit to write much as I hurt my hand so can't type very much. 1:45 York - Strike Up The Band - 1pt e/w @ 20/1 (StanJames) Back to a winnable mark, conditions to suit and has ran well here before including placing in Group and Listed contests here. Stable going decently and Adrian Nicholls' only ride of the day, looks overpriced if returning to form and could go close of his lowest ever mark. 2:15 York - Dream Ahead - 5pts @ 7/4 (Ladbrokes) Looked like a potentially class act when winning by 9 lengths on debut over 6f despite running very green, steps up to 7f now and that will suit no problem, ground shouldn't be a problem, Simcock in good form over the last month or so as is jockey William Buick, should have a solid chance here and a max bet for me. 2:50 York - Monterosso - 1pt @ 8/1 (Ladbrokes) An old favourite of mine, been very busy of late and that has probably took its toll but he has had a month off and should strip fitter for that, has lots of ability and speed and if taking to the soft ground here he should go well. Small 'loyalty' bet but he has good chance if rejuvenated after the month off.

Re: Monterosso's Specialisation - Winning! (+64pts) 3:25 York - Dick Turpin - 2pts @ 6/1 (Ladbrokes) If he stays the extra 2f he'll go very close. Classy sort with a lovely turn of foot and has been mixing it well with the best 3 y/o milers around. Won easily in a Group 1 in France 44 days ago and should be in tip-top condition for this, ground won't be a problem and I think he's a very good price, should go well if staying the extra 2f, I think he will.

Re: Monterosso's Specialisation - Winning! (+64pts) Poor, -5pts. My max bet was a non-runner. 1:45 York - Yorgunnabelucky - 1pt e/w @ 9/1 (PaddyPower) Very progressive 4 year old who has won his last two races when dictating from the front, won very easily last time out after being given a wonderful ride by Hailey Turner who is up again, she rarely ever rides for Johnston having only rode 4 times for him which included 2 winners. The step up to 12f has really helped this well bred son of Giant's Causeway and I expect him to go well again today despite a 7lb penalty, he's extremely well bred and a full brother to the top class Shamardal, there should be more to come from this colt and he looks a good price at 9/1. Should be there or thereabouts come the end and if getting an easy lead he'll be hard caught, I can see two possible dangers to the lead but at these odds he's worth a small each way bet.

Re: Monterosso's Specialisation - Winning! (+64pts) 2:50 York - Approve - 1pt @ 10/1 (PaddyPower) I can't understand how he's 10/1 in this race, looked like a classy 2 year old when winning a Group 2 at Ascot, failed in similar contests since but not beaten far and has enough ability to topple these. The only thing is the ground mightn't be ideal for him but at these odds he's worth a small go. Should get a race run to suit and the track should suit his style, Eddie Ahern is back on board and he's a very good jockey, in grand form over the last month and has a 21% strike rate for Haggas, who is in flying form of late and his horses usually go well around here. Small win bet for me at nice odds.

Re: Monterosso's Specialisation - Winning! (+64pts) Last one. 3:35 York - Dirar - 2pts e/w @ 14/1 (Bet365) Really fancy this one to place at least, the ground will be ideal, he'll stay no bother and looks on a mark that he can win off again. Only carries 9st 1lb which will also help, Jamie Spencer is on board for the Gordon Elliot trained gelding. Spencer has been in great form of late with 11 wins from his last 30 rides. He's an ideal rider for this horse and if he can get him settled out the back and switch him on at the right time I think he'll be staying on as well as any of the rest and after a great showing at the Galway Hurdle he should be fit and ready to win this. Looks a great price at 14/1 and should go well and hopefully place at least, decent sized e/w bet for me and my Nap of the day.

Re: Monterosso's Specialisation - Winning! (+99pts) 1:45 York - Majestic Myles - 1pt @ 14/1 (Bet365) Speedy sort who is constantly improving, won 3 out of 5 starts and finished 2nd last time out in a good nursery when just pipped by a good Hannon horse called Eucharist. That form looks grand to me and on another day I feel my selection would of won. Drawn soundly and the ground will be ideal, the market and jockey booking suggests that this is the second choice Fahey horse but I feel he's as open to improvement as the current favourite Wootton Bassett who may find this a step too early and is certainly no value at 9/4. Only ever raced in small fields and despite having lots of ability he's certainly worth taking on. I feel the 'second' string Fahey horse looks to have a solid chance and could go well at a nice price. Small win bet.

Re: Monterosso's Specialisation - Winning! (+99pts) 2:15 York - Rimth - 1pt @ 10/1 (Ladbrokes) When I first saw this horse 3 month ago I though it was something special, won well in a good maiden but hasn't been seen since, has reportedly had problems but should be tuned up well for this and looks a brilliant price. She beat numerous future winners like Byrony who has won 3 times since, The Thrill Is Gone who has placed in a Listed race. The Fifth Commandment who she also beat has won 3 times since also, plenty of form to find, maybe not form strong enough for this race but the horse obviously has plenty of ability, goes well on the ground and has a wonderful turn of foot, looks overpriced and should go well if feeling no ill-effects of here 101 day absence. Small win bet as there's only 8 runners and one will more than likely drop out as usual!

Re: Monterosso's Specialisation - Winning! (+99pts) 2:50 York - Capponi - 3pts @ 8/1 (Ladbrokes) Really liking the look of Mark Johnston's 3 year old here. He's a C&D winner when winning impressively off 8lbs lower but gets a 6lb age allowance here thus carrying only 9st. Ran well for a long time over 1m 2f last time out but faded inside the final furlong when looking the most likely winner, hit 4/5 in running and ended up coming 9th of 15. He's dropped back to 1m here and likely to get a race run to suit and I think he'll be in the firing line come the end, only has had 5 starts, won 3 of those and is open to a lot more improvement, this race is certainly not beyond him and I think the 8/1 available is extremely generous, I'd have him as a 5/1 shot and even at that he'd be a good price. No better man than Dettori to have on board and he should find this fellow an ideal ride for him, if he can get him settled in behind the leaders he'll have a great chance come the final furlong and seems to have a good enough turn of foot to ensure victory here. Must go well and a medium bet for me at a nice price, my Nap of the day.

Re: Monterosso's Specialisation - Winning! (+99pts) Last bet.. 4:05 York - Eldalil - 2pts @ 9/2 (WillHill) I'm a big fan of this filly, I think she has all the ability in the world and anytime she gets good or better ground she'll have a solid chance. Ran in the Group 2 Ribblesdale Stakes when un-fancied, came 2nd behind Hibaayeb who is excellent on quick ground, she wasn't hard pushed that day either and cruised past the rest to grab second place. If the ground stays relatively good she has a serious chance now in this listed company and the 9/2 looks a big price and is probably based on her poor showing at The Curragh when well behind Snow Fairy but the ground was completely against her and ruined any chance she had in my opinion, despite me backing her that day. Stoute has hit a bit of form of late and seems like his horses are running OK again so trainer form can't be doubted and Richard Hills is a competent enough jockey and has been riding well of late, small enough win bet for me and she should go well but if the ground goes soft then AVOID!

Re: Monterosso's Specialisation - Winning! (+99pts) Thank you DJ. :) -7pts today. 1 more small bet.. 4:40 York - Perfect Blossom - 1pt @ 7/1 (Bet365) On a constant upwards curve, has won all 6 starts at 5f since joining a new yard, won comfortably last time out finding more than all in a good race and despite a penalty I think she can follow up again, she's drawn sound, will love the ground and has a decent 3lb claimer on board. Trainer form is good of late as is the jockeys. Should take a lot of beating and even with a penalty she could well find enough improvement to take this, the race will be run to suit and I'll be surprised if she has reached the peak of her powers as she has only had 11 career starts and is open to more improvement. Small win bet for me.

Re: Monterosso's Specialisation - Winning! (+91pts) 1:45 York - Desert Recluse - 2pts e/w @ 20/1 (Coral) Backed this one last time out in the big handicap at Ascot four weeks ago, he ran well enough against his elders and finished a 2 3/4 length 4th behind Colloquial, he got boxed in a couple of times and ran on near the end, that was over 2m and he's dropped a further 2f which will suit him perfectly, he has lots of speed and will hopefully be staying on near the end better than most and looks severely underrated by the odds compilers. He is also a course winner when winning here by 6 lengths in a good handicap off a 10lb lower mark, he's highly progressive, only has had 12 starts (won 5) so he's open to more improvement and may have found 2m on the tough side last twice, he has won over this 1m 6f trip before when winning at Sandown. There should be a good pace in this race and that will suit him, the ground is also ideal for him and he will stay this trip with ease. Richard Hughes is on board and he doesn't often ride for Pat Eddery, if Richard gets him settled in mid division and sets him off late I feel he has a solid chance, the horse tends to run quite free but Hughes is good at settling them so that will be key. Hughes is also due a winner at this meeting, he's 0 from 12 so far and it wouldn't be like him to go away without a winner so he'll be desperate to get his first of three rides tomorrow across the line in first. He looks massive at 20/1 and I'd have him around 8/1 back against his own age group, decent sized each way bet for me and hopefully it proves worthwhile!

Re: Monterosso's Specialisation - Winning! (+91pts) 2:15 York - Confront - 1pt e/w @ 12/1 (StanJames) I really like Rainbow Peak here but I can't get involved at 6/4 in such a tough race so I'm going to go for the horse who I consider good each way value, he was used as a pacemaker to Harbinger over 12f which is way too far for him, managed to keep the lead until the 2f pole, back to 9f now and it will suit him, he's well drawn in stall 1 and might just get a handy lead which will play to his strengths, the ground will hopefully be quick enough for him because if it's not he won't go close but I think it will be and he could knick it from the front. He's a classy animal who has his best form around 1mile but this 1m 1f shouldn't stretch him too much, hasn't found his form of last year yet but he is a course winner here and might just get the run of the race and looks a good price for it. Stoute isn't in great form but he has had 3 or 4 winners in the last week and has been hinting at a return to his brilliant best, top French jockey Olivier Peslier is on board for his only ride of the day and he's a wonderful jockey and will hopefully get the most out of this fellow. He should be in the top 3 if returning to what he's capable of and at 12/1 he's worth the risk with a small each way bet.

Re: Monterosso's Specialisation - Winning! (+91pts) 2:50 York - Prince Of Dance - .5pts e/w @ 25/1 (Bet365) The price is too big on this one in my opinion, ran in Group 1 and Group 2 races last twice since return, but won his only 3 races last year, his Maiden, and good Handicap and a Listed race. He was running against the likes of Paco Boy and Lord Shanakill in those races and this will be a lot easier. He's stepping back to 7f which will do him no harm, I don't think he seen out the 1m trip last twice but they were much tougher contests, he has enough speed to be effective over this trip and with the ground likely to suit him I think he could have a good chance of at least knicking a place if he runs to ability, tongue strap is applied now and that could well help him and he has Niel Callan on board to do the steering and he's as capable as any on his day. The trainer has only sent 3 here in the past and I doubt he'd make the trip for no reason, the horse has the ability and won in this grade last year, beating the likes of Bushman who won a Group 3 this year. Should get a race run to suit and looks good value at 25/1 in a tough race to call, small each way bet again.

Re: Monterosso's Specialisation - Winning! (+91pts) 3:25 York - Stone Of Folca - 1pt e/w @ 12/1 (Ladbrokes) He's a baby against the big boys but he finished ahead of Zebedee then lost by a neck to him in a Group 3, he's going to be a class act too. Wasn't far behind Approve either in a Group 2. May not have the experience or be fully developed yet but he has a fine turn of foot and if he settles better then I wouldn't be surprised if he goes awfully close. Only carrying 8st 1lb will help him ten fold too, weight over these distances is vital IMO and with 24lb in his favour compared to SSB and Equiano I'd definitely favour him as the value. The ground will be grand for him and Jimmy Quinn gets the leg up after being on board last time out, he gave a good ride that day and was unlucky to lose. Should be a mighty interesting race. Wouldn't rule out the old boy, Borderlescott either, won it last twice and seems as good as ever but again, carrying 9st 11lbs against some younger types will be awfully tough but he's a 3 time course winner so obviously loves it here, drawn alright for his style too, the ground will have to be rapid for him though. Anyways, should be interesting but I'm not going near SSB or Equiano at those prices. Going to have a small each way bet on Stone Of Folca at a nice price Also having my traditional each way bet on Mister Hughie, only a small .5pts e/w @ 33/1 (Ladbrokes) but I'll keep backing him until he wins. I selected him last time out when he was 4th behind Borderlescott, he was outpaced for a long time but flew near the end, probably lost a few lengths to get a clear run and only finished 3/4 of a length away. Could get a fast gallop to suit and I would be surprised if he finished in the places as he has a rapid turn of foot when he can get the gaps and although he's not highly rated by many he has ability just never gets to show it. Alan Munro is on board and he won on him before and gave him a canny ride last time out, he's not one that strikes as a Group 1 winner but stranger things have happened and I'll be having a small bet on him.
