Re: Cricket: Indian Premier League 2010 At intial look, quite like Bangalore @ 7/1 with betfred to win it this year. KP, Eoin Morgan, Ross Taylor, Kallis, very decent middle order, plus the old fox Kumble, Dale Steyn and Praveen Kumar, have got the basis of a good bowling attack. Cases can be made for all teams though, will take my chance. All games on itv4:nana

Re: Cricket: Indian Premier League 2010 Really looking forward to the IPL especially now that it is all on ITV4, think some fantastic betting opportunities will come along too. Will take a look at the teams and have a go at the outright at some point before it all kicks off.

Agree that you can make a case for pretty much all the teams. Anyone betting on the outrights, remember that NZ, Aus, Eng and WI players won't arrive until after the event has started. Also only 4 overseas players can play. So with the likes of Bangalore, they'll be without Ross Taylor and KP until halfway through the event (injury permitting with Taylor having not had chance to check what he missed the ODI with on Saturday). Kolkata look the worst hit on 1st glance.

Re: Cricket: Indian Premier League 2010 Had a little time to look at the teams and I'm liking the look of the Mumbai Indians. 1pt each way - Mumbai Indians to win the IPL - 7/1 *bet365* (1/3 odds if they are runners up) As mentioned previously all the teams could conceivably win it so I've decided to look beyond the favourites. This is T20 cricket where the favourites rarely succeed in living up to their billing which means the likes of Delhi and Chennai will not have it their own way despite their star studded teams. However Mumbai have their own share of match winners and any team containing the likes of Tendulkar, Jayasuriya, Pollard and Bravo (if fit) will be a force to be reckoned with. But is their variation in bowling that tilted my head towards this pick as the likes of Malinga, Zaheer and Harbhajan offer different options but at the same time are experienced campaigners. The question mark would be over their local talent who will need to come to the party at some stage if Mumbai are to pull it off nevertheless I'm backing Tendulkar's boys to make their first final appearance in the IPL.

Re: Cricket: Indian Premier League 2010 Top Batsman MS Dhoni 33/1 ew (5places 1/4 odds bluesq) The Indian captain is now established as one of the best hitter of a cricket ball in world cricket, Along with Hayden and Raina, alot of runs will need to be scored by the skipper, he's likely to float up/down the order, but is capable of scoring runs consistently over a tournie format like this.

Re: Cricket: Indian Premier League 2010 The third IPL and it should be a cracking tournament only one team for me tho and maybe a slightly boring pick at that. 3 pts Delhi to win the IPL 4/1 Stan james. Whilst backing the 4/1 jollies on what seems a open contest might not appeal to some they will be getting my money. When you look down there team with Sehwag,Dilshan,Gambhir,Warner and AB De Villiers i feel not many teams will be able to contain them over the 20 over format. With the explosive Dirk Nannes to open the bowling and canny Vettori to bowl the middle overs.I really cant see how they wont make the semis, then that 4/1 will start to look big.

Thanks mate' date=' wasn't fully aware when everyone would arrive/depart.[/quote'] No worries mate. For use for everyone - West Indies (and any Zimbabwe players if there are any) players finish their ODI series on Sunday and then fly out to the IPL so should be there next week sometime. England, Bangladesh, Australia and NZ players are all involved in a test series (and remainder of the ODI series in Aus & NZ cases) until the end of March so those players won't be around until the beginning of April.

Re: Cricket: Indian Premier League 2010 Will look further into this tomorrow including a few outright punts I've got on a shortlist. Putting this one out there tonight though because again it's a standout price. 1pt ew S.Tait Top Tournament Bowler 18/1 Boylesports (1/4 1,2,3,4) Shaun Tait was in excellent form in the Big Bash picking up 8 wickets as his Redbacks side made the final, losing to Victoria. Since then he's played 5 international twenty20 matches and has taken 11 wickets, which is no mean achievement. Playing for the Rajasthan Royals he's going to be bowling to very attacking fields as only Warney can set and he'll probably be one that opposition batsmen look to get after because they're not going to score too many off the likes of Shane Warne. In those 5 international matches he's only going at 6.5 an over and if the likes of Patel and Warne strangle the opponents, Tait's pace can pick up a few cheap wickets. Unlike most he's at the event for most of it's duration and in the form he's in with the pace he provides and the captain he's working for I think Tait is more than a fair punt at 18/1.

Re: Cricket: Indian Premier League 2010 Had a bit more time so a couple more outrights for me: 0.5pts each way - Pragyan Ojha top tournament bowler - 25/1 [1/4 odds 1,2,3,4] (paddypower) I fancy Deccan to go reasonably well again after winning it last time round and wouldn't be surprised to see them in the semis. In Pragyan Ojha they have a very talented left arm spinner in my opinion and I feel that Gilchrist also rates him highly. In the last IPL he finished joint 4th with 18 wickets and with the IPL back in India this time around I feel he can match this performance if not do better. He will bowl his full quota of overs being Deccan's main spinner and the nature of T20 means that spinners have to be attacked which could result in a few cheap wickets along the way. Here's to a good tourney for the Indian spinner :hope. 0.5pts each way - TM Dilshan top tournament batsman - 20/1 [1/5 odds 1,2,3,4,5] (skybet) Dilshan has developed into an excellent batsman and will surely go well in a format which suits him perfectly. I'm convinced he will bat in the top 3 for the Delhi Daredevils and may even open on occasions. So this looks a big price for a guy who finished 5th top scorer last time around and with Delhi expected to challenge strongly, I'm happy to back Dilshan to finish in the top 5 again this time around.

Re: Cricket: Indian Premier League 2010 I've had a real look into this event and I can't find a team I like outright :lol. The one team I did like is Delhi, in agreement with Bertie but I'm in no rush to back them at 4/1 having lost a fair bit on them in IPL1, especially after that CL campaign of theirs and the potential iffy wicket they play on. If I was going to back anyone it would be them though. I'll bide my time in the outright market I think and see if any value appears as we go along. I'm gonna go with 2 outright top bats though. This is the 1st post of my 12th set of thousand posts on PL so let's hope I mark it with a huge priced winner :hope. 1pt ew G.Gambhir Top Tournament Batsman 22/1 Boylesports (1/4 1,2,3,4) In amongst that very attacking Delhi batting lineup there needs to be a person they all bat around and Gautam Gambhir can be that person. He can scorely himself of course when he needs to but when he's batting with Sehwag, Warner, de Villiers and Dilshan he'll be able to pace his innings how he likes knowing full well that runs will naturally come quickly at the other end. In IPL one, only Shaun Marsh bettered Gambhir's return of 534 runs in the tournament but Marsh won't be fit for much of this event. I think Gambhir is a very solid batsman and the fact he now captains the Daredevils means he'll look to score even more to lead from the front. The tacky pitch at Delhi could be a concern but if it isn't up to standards I'm sure the IPL will ditch the Feroz Shah Kotla so it shouldn't be too much of a potential downer so at 22/1 I'll take Gauti to outscore the world. 1pt ew Y.Pathan Top Tournament Batsman 100/1 Ladbrokes (1/4 1,2,3,4) I've absolutely no idea what Ladbrokes are on here. This is a huge price for a capable and hugely dangerous batsman. He's in decent nick too having smashed an amazing 210 off 190 balls for West Zone in the Duleep Trophy final. He hit a ton in the 1st innings of that match too. Rajasthan don't have the best or longest batting lineup in the world and it could be that until Shane Watson enters the fray around April time, that Yusuf could bat as high as 4 in this side. There isn't a ground in India big enough to contain him once he's got himself played in and going. Pathan was 7th on the runscorers list 2 years ago and there's no reason why with a couple of big innings that he can't feature on the leaderboard again. He's as short as 33/1 in some places which emphasises that this 100/1 is very big and I think it's well worth an ew punt.

Re: Cricket: Indian Premier League 2010 One more top bat for me, Yusuf Pathan 66/1 E/W (5places 1/4 odds bluesq) Yusuf is a pretty destructive batsman when he gets in the groove, he was a vital cog in Rajasthan winning the first IPL tournie, since then his form had dipped, but is now on the up again, being recalled to India's one day plans. I dont expect he'll face too many overs, but he is capable of scoring alot of boundaries.

Re: Cricket: Indian Premier League 2010 Deccan vs Kolkata Just lost my original write up,(internet explorer freezing:cry) The opening game see's the sides that came 1st and last in last season's IPL, looking at the two sides, think Deccan have a stronger batting line up and possibly a better bowling attack, Gilchrist, Gibbs, Symonds, Rohit Sharma, VVS Laxman, Rao look a solid unit, compared with Kolkata's batting, which looks delicate without Gayle & McCullum. Owais Shah looks set to make his IPL debut but Brad Hodge looks like the key man. I dont really like Kolkata's bowlers, Ishant can be good or very expensive, as can Dinda, Mendis is a doubt to play as Langerveldt and Matthews may be picked above him. Deccan will have the experience of Vaas, plus the accuracy of RP Singh, Ojha is a decent left arm spinner, this will probably be backed up with the part time spin of Rohit and Symonds. Although im not overly keen on the price, im less keen on Kolkata. Deccan Chargers win @ 8/13 (bluesq).

Fully explains why the likes of R.Taylor and D.Vettori are such long odds for top bat and bowler respectively. What determines 'top bowler' ? Wickets taken? If tied, is the winner decided on economy rate? I could probably not be so lazy and read rulebook but i'm guessing you may have already Kev?

Re: Cricket: Indian Premier League 2010 4 more small outrights from me before the off. 1pt J.Kallis Top Bangalore Tournament Batsman 3/1 Boylesports Jacques Kallis is a very solid player no matter what the format and he comes into this tournament not long off the back of a very good tour of India with South Africa where runs flowed from his bat like you would expect. Tricky betting heat this one but a lot of the main competitors - Taylor, Pietersen, White for example won't be around until half way through the competition so it's basically Kallis and Morgan vs the Indian contingent for this market. Dravid is solid. Pandey capable of anything as we saw in the past but Kallis is ultra consistent and at 3/1 he's the call to lead the Bangalore run charts. 1pt K.Sangakkara Top Kings XI Tournament Batsman 3/1 Blue Square Kumar Sangakkara is another I really like. Sure twenty20 is about hitting 4s and 6s but this guy shows time and time again that you can score good, quick runs by placement and finesse as well as brute force. This Kings XI batting lineup is non existant really and relies a lot on overseas players of which there can only be 4. As captain and keeper, Sangakkara is guaranteed a spot which is a boost. Yuvraj isn't fully fit yet so he'll miss some of the tournament and may need a game or two to get some form when he returns. I love watching Sangakkara bat and I think he is a fair price to lead his teams run charts this season. 1pt C.Langeveldt Top Kolkata Tournament Bowler 8/1 Ladbrokes Charl Langeveldt isn't an out and out twenty20 specialist but he's not far off. He's very good at the front of the innings and bang on at the death as well. Obviously we take a bit of a chance here given he's an overseas player but Shane Bond is unavailable at the start and he's likely to strain or pull something over a 6 week period. It would be the 1st time he didn't if he doesn't go lame over this 6 weeks :lol. Ishant Sharma rates as the obvious danger but he can be easy to play as well as electifying. For some reason Mendis doesn't get as much game time as he should do for this lot so although Langeveldt will be fighting for his place, I think he's good enough to compete in this side and if he keeps his spot this 8/1 will look pretty good pretty quickly. 1pt Delhi to hit the most 6's 8/1 Skybet I've seen some prices in my time but this one tops the lot. Let's just list Delhi's possible top 6. In no particular order. Gambhir, Sehwag, Warner, de Villiers, Dilshan and Karthik. That even leaves a space for an overseas bowler as well :loon. Even then I've missed out Henriques and Maharoof. It may be that one of those 3 overseas players doesn't play much so that they can field two overseas bowlers but then someone like Bhatia might bat up the order. Either way even if only 4 of that top 6 let alone 5 or all 6, take to the field the crowd had better watch out. If Warner plays this tournament through and gets in 5-6 times then he could put Delhi out of sight in this market. Mumbai rate as the dangers for me but Pollard and Bravo, two hitters for them, come in lower down the order. The Daredevils tee off from the top and 8/1 is a stupid price as long as this pitch at the Feroz Shah Kotla is up to scratch. At this price I'll take my chances because it's 4 times the price I'd have it if this wicket plays anything close to true.

Absolutely. For series bets I'd be avoiding all Kiwi, Aussie, England and WI internationals. I've not seen it confirmed yet but Australia usually go into a training camp for major tournaments and with the world twenty20 only a week after this finishes, the Aussie players could leave early so they will be the worst hit. Top bowler is wickets only. If it's tied then dead heat rules come into play. The market has been won by 3 wickets and 2 wickets in the two runnings so far and generally at the top of the lists it's been spread out. With a minimum of 14 matches for all a dead heat isn't as likely as say in the world twenty20 when everyone plays a max of 6 matches.

Re: Cricket: Indian Premier League 2010 I thought there might be some cracking value around in the matches in this tournament and fair play to the bookies for offering so many markets. Hopefully the cricket punters we have on here can take full advantage over the next 6 weeks :nana. 3 for me in the opener. 3pts Kolkata Knight Riders to beat Deccan Chargers 7/5 Sportingbet There are 2-3 teams who I'll be looking to take on in this 3rd edition of the IPL. Defending champions Deccan Chargers are very much one of them. They are nothing like 2nd favourites for this tournament in my book. Credit to them they won this last year in SA but I don't rate them. Kolkata were the wooden spoonists last year and will hope to go a lot better this year back on home soil. Deccan have a bit of a threadbare squad for this match really. They only have 4 internationals available due to international duty and the like and 3 of those haven't played much cricket recently having retired from the game. Rohit Sharma therefore becomes a very big man with the bat if Gilchrist and Symonds take a while to get going. Herschelle Gibbs is capable but in no form at the minute while twenty20 isn't really Laxman's game. If batting was a worry for the Chargers the bowling is a real headache. Ojha aside there's nothing there until Ryan Harris and Kemar Roach arrive. RP Singh was the top wicket taker in IPL2 but his record in India leaves a bit to be desired. Kolkata also have a weakened side with Gayle, McCullum and Hussey away for them. They have slightly more options in the international area with Shah, Mathews, Mendis, Langeveldt, Hodge and Mortaza available. Kolkata will need their key batsmen - Hodge, Ganguly and Shah to stand up here because they are a bit weak until Gayle and McCullum jet in. However I'm happy with their bowling attack. Ishant Sharma, Charl Langeveldt, Murali Kartik and Ajentha Mendis. That stands up against anything in this competition. It's all well and good being able to score runs but you have to stop them from the other side too and Deccan can't do that as we saw in the Champions League. Their record in India is rotten and while Kolkata have completely bombed out in 2 IPL's they've gone about this one with a low profile and that may well work. 2 years ago they beat Bangalore on the opening night and I think they'll repeat that result against the defending champions here. 6pts 10 or more 6's 5/6 Sportingbet With Deccan's home ground banned for this IPL due to political goings on in Hyderabad this match will take place at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. There were 5 matches in the IPL here in 2008, including the final, and 4 of them had double figure numbers in terms of 6's. The one that didn't was a 104 all out vs 105 match and that still had half a dozen 6s in it. So we're not looking at the biggest of grounds. In fact, in one of those matches, Adam Gilchrist hit 10 6's on his own which shows how inviting the boundaries are. Having him on display in this match helps. He isn't the only big hitter though. There's Andrew Symonds, Rohit Sharma, Brad Hodge, Sourav Ganguly and Owais Shah as well as others. It's sure to be a good wicket with the whole world watching the opening night and with the talent on display and a Deccan bowling attack which dishes up more pies than a Pukka Pie factory, I'm happy to go fairly big for an opening night bet on the overs here. 1pt ew O.Shah Top Kolkata Knight Riders Batsman 6/1 Coral (1/5 1,2,3) I'm very surprised Owais Shah is priced this big in this lineup. It's a capable batting lineup but it lacks a bit of quality strength in depth. If we go purely on the well known names then Shah is one of three so he would be a good ew bet here. Cricket isn't like that though and besides Manoj Tiwary is a very capable cricketer. However Shah has points to prove to Delhi for allowing this trade and to Andy Flower and the England selectors as he looks to regain his place in the side having been named in England's provisional 30 for the world twenty20 next month. Shah's a class act when he gets going and no bowler is safe as we saw in the Champions Trophy when he battered SA round Centurion on his way to a quick 98. Ganguly is one of the three well known names I mentioned and he hasn't played top level cricket for a while so at 6/1 I think Owais Shah is a good ew bet for the Knight Riders top batsman here.

Re: Cricket: Indian Premier League 2010 Just one bet for me in the opener. 1 pt ew Angelo Mathews Top Kolkata Batsman 12/1 Corals (1/5 1,2,3) I Quite like this bet, Mathews is a talented all rounder and as we all know can hit a ball a long way. With Kolkata missing there overseas batsmen of McCullum,Gayle and Hussey there line up dosent look the strongest. So Matthews may well bat a little bit higher than he normally would do, so i will quite happily take my chances.

Top shout, missed it, I'm at work but just seen on my phone he top scored with 65! :clap Well done again Kevshat (Who I did manage to follow!!) 11 6's already, and Shah picks up EW money with 58 as second top scorer! The Kolkata win looks a bit iffy, Deccan currently 61/0 with plenty to come, but still a top top effort that man :clap

Cracking start to the IPL in this thread. 9.4pt profit from myself but the day belongs to Bertie with this cracker. 14.4pt profit from that. Top shout mate and long may it continue for the next 6 weeks :clap:clap.
