Re: Golf: PGA Tour 2010 - Sony Open 14-17 Jan I'm gonna go with three outrights for this one, I'll go with the strongest players in the last round of the SBS championships, which is Sabbatini, Stricker & Kuchar...hopefully being early in the season the hot form can count for more and be sharper than others. S.Stricker to win Sony Open 12/1 365 R.Sabbatini to win Sony Open 25/1 365 M.Kuchar to win Sony Open 33/1 365 All 5 places (1/4)

Re: Golf: PGA Tour 2010 - Sony Open 14-17 Jan I'll have a go at the Golf again this week

Sport Golf
Event Sony Open
Selection Zach Johnson E/W (1/4, 1-5) (Each-Way)
Strength 2/10
Date 17/01/2010
Bookmaker/Price Boylesports @ 21.00 (Back)
Reasoning Johnson is defending champion here, and I expect him to make a good defence of the title. He finished off pretty well last week. Game suits this kind of course, and I'd expect him to be close.
Sport Golf
Event Sony Open
Selection Rory Sabbatini E/W (1/4, 1-5) (Each-Way)
Strength 2/10
Date 17/01/2010
Bookmaker/Price Paddy Power @ 26.00 (Back)
Reasoning Sabbatini finished the SBS in tremendous form and almost pulled off the victory. Hope he can take confidence from that and put in another big performance here. He finished T12th here last year after another final round surge, hopefully he can get going a bit earlier this time!
Sport Golf
Event Sony Open
Selection Brian Gay E/W (1/4, 1-5) (Each-Way)
Strength 2/10
Date 17/01/2010
Bookmaker/Price Boylesports @ 36.00 (Back)
Reasoning Gay is a solid player who should be well suited to this course. He won early in the year last year, and finished T5 in this event despite an average final round. He's not really a big name but he's a solid performer and can get a decent result here.
Sport Golf
Event Sony Open
Selection Pat Perez E/W (1/4, 1-5) (Each-Way)
Strength 2/10
Date 17/01/2010
Bookmaker/Price Paddy Power @ 51.00 (Back)
Reasoning Perez is a good little player and should perform well in these conditions. He had a good weekend at the SBS after a pretty shaky start. Think he can go closer this week, and is decent for a 50/1 chance.

Re: Golf: PGA Tour 2010 - Sony Open 14-17 Jan The Sony Hawaiian Open 2010 Waialae Country Club · Honolulu, Hawaii Thurs 14th January to Sun 17th January 2010. Outrights (Most Bookmakers go 1/4 odds 1,2,3,4,5): Zach Johnson @19.00 EW Paddypower **** One of my favourite players who won this tournament last year! He limbered up in last weekends SBS Championship playing steady unspectacular golf giving the impression he's just blowing off the cobwebs for a real tilt at becoming the next back to back winner of this tournament since Ernie Els in 2003 & 2004. This season is going to be the chance for the likes of Johnson to shine in Wood's enforced absence and he'll want to get an early marker down to the rest of the world's gold elite that he wants to be the top ranked player. Jerry Kelly @71.00 EW Stan James ** Kelly has a very decent record here winning the tournament in 2002 -9th in 2000 - 4th in 2003 - 5th in 2004 - 3rd in 2008. Kelly started off last weekends SBS well and was right up there until his last 2 rounds of 74 put paid to his chances. On a course he knows and has performed well previously and after glimmers of decent golf last weekend, he rates to me as a real live wire each way chance! Luke Donald @51.00 EW Paddypower ** Donald will be hoping his injury woes of last season will be over after surgery and loads of hardwork in the off season. He's performed well here in the past before coming 2nd here in 2007. Donald is a golfer that I'm expecting big things of this season and he may be a decent shout for a major this year. Another decent each way price for a talented golfer. I hope to be back with some more value picks before the tournament starts! :ok

Re: Golf: PGA Tour 2010 - Sony Open 14-17 Jan Fancied Steve Stricker last week, didnt go too well becuase of a bad round of par on 1st day but hes rounds were 73-70-68-66 improving round by round, apparently he was snowed in during xmas so he couldnt play so obviously he was blowing away the cobwebs in the 1st round. Must have confidence from the 2nd day onwards. Tied for 4th in this weeks tournament in 07 and 08 so likes the course, big chance here, quite a few punters have latched on to him already. Lucas Glover interests me, he is better than hes finishing position of 14th suggests last week he had a few very unlucky breaks on the final day, i dont think it was a case of him choking though. Sean O'Hair has broke into the world top 16, played immpeccably last week, he is a straight hitter, won on the hard quail hollow course last year with tiger in contention all four days, if he plays like last week he should be in contention again. Zack Johnson is no stranger to back to back wins in a tournament he won the Texas Open back to back so he'll be right up for this, a short accurate hitter is what you need here & he fits that bill, didnt contend in the 1st tournament last year & didnt this time around but that course doesnt play to hes strengths, i think he'll be bang there My selections Steve Stricker Lucas Glover Sean O'Hair Zack Johnson Good Luck All!

Re: Golf: PGA Tour 2010 - Sony Open 14-17 Jan I am going to have a bash at this for my first outright golf bets, having watched the SBS tournament with great interest I feel I will add more interest to this one by having 1/2 players on to win the tournament outright: The Sony Open 2010 - Outright Rory Sabbatini @ 25/1 - 1pt E/W (Victor Chandler 1/4 - 1,2,3,4,5) I think Rory Sabbatini will be carrying a lot of confidence into this week due to his final round in the SBS tournament where he finished an impressive -10 and had the leaders sweating. I feel he can carry that form onto a course where he has a good record. He has finished runner-up twice at this course in the past four years and was T12th last year. I feel with a bit of confidence behind him he can come close again and it will be important for him to put in a good first round. David Toms @ 33/1 - 1pt E/W (Victor Chandler 1/4 - 1,2,3,4,5) Has a brilliant course record: five top thirteen finishes including one win here which came 4 years ago in 2006. Had a solid enough 2009 without winning and he will be eager to start the year off with a good performance. He was T2 last year when he was only 2 shots off the leader. Did start slowly with a round of 70 whereas in the final 3 days he hit rounds of 66, 65 and 66. A solid start tomorrow could see him right in contention for this. Made 21/27 cuts last year with 7 top 10 finishes which included three 2nds, a 4th and a 5th. First Round Leader R.Sabbatini @ 35/1 1pt E/W (Stan James 1/4 - 1,2,3,4,5) Same as reasons above, a good -10 in the last round in the SBS on Sunday will give him plenty of confidence coming into this so hopefully he can carry that form here and have a great first round at a course he seems to do well on. How does this work for E/W with regards to both options? Say there were 5 players tied 2nd, 3rd or 4th would I get 35/4 x my 1pt or would it be 35 divided by 4 then a further 5 x 1pt? Anybody who can clear that up would be fantastic :ok Hope my reasons are good enough, this is my first posts apart from one 2 ball pick in the SBS so obviously the more I get into the sport, the more I will learn and learn each players style of play etc. :hope

Re: Golf: PGA Tour 2010 - Sony Open 14-17 Jan Missed putting up any outrights as I was away. Good start by many of you so good luck for the rest of the week. I'll probably have a few more later but I'll start with one in the 3-balls. C.Reavie to beat KJ.Choi & L.Donald, 2nd round 3-balls, 3pts @ 9/4 Betfred Chez leads these 2 after Day 1 and I fancy him to do it again, especially at this price. Donald had a poor round yesterday, opening with a 7 and finishing +4. Although that knocked the confidence from him, he failed to manage a single birdie and his normally excellent putting touch deserted him. I do expect an improvement from him on the carpet but tee to green is the concern. KJ had a better round, finishing at +1, but an eagle helped him in a round of 4 bogeys. Actually played ok tee to green but, at the price, is one to take on. I do like the look of Reavie. He had a solid first round, finishing Even par, again the round included an eagle, but he did look more solid. Is usually very good tee to green and he was again, in the Top 30, for both driving accuracy & GIR which is key on this course. Lots of shots can go begging on this tight course so I'll take the consistency of Reavie to land the spoils again at a big price.

Re: Golf: PGA Tour 2010 - Sony Open 14-17 Jan Looks like the first bet is down but I'm going to chance 2 more. J.Kelly to beat A.Cabrera & S.Ames, 2nd round 3 balls, 3pts @ 11/4 Totesport Cabrera and Ames sit as -4 and -2 respectively but both are beaten against a Jerry Kelly currently at +4, 3 away from the projected cut. Cabrera played well last week but I'm always concerned when he plays a tight course as he's liable for a few wayward shots whilst Ames didn't really set the field alight last week. He has had 3 Top 10's here though so I expect him to consolidate his position. This bet though is about the price of a player who loves it in Hawaii, especially at this event. Has a victory amongst his 5 Top 10's from 13 starts. That's pretty awesome stuff and I can't imagine he will want to be packing his case before the end of the weekend. Didn't have a single birdie yesterday, I don't believe that will be repeated. Played some good stuff last week so is not without form. I just think the price is too big for a course specialist needing to pick up shots to make the cut. L.Glover to beat M.Kuchar & J.Leonard, 2nd round 3 bals, 3pts @ 5/2 Stan James Pretty similar comments apply here. Both Kuchar and Leonard are above the cut line and played some solid stuff yesterday but the scattering of bogeys amongst the birdies is a worry especially with how well they effectively played. Glover, meanwhile, had an awful round and sits as +5. Needs to pick up shots and quick, Lucas is certainly capable. Had an awesome start to the tournament last week, clocking -15 for the opening 2 rounds. Yesterday, he even had 1 eagle so is certainly someone who can picks lots of shots up. Drives it far and is generally straighter than he was yesterday. Again, another insult of a price pushes me towards this bet at 5/2.

Re: Golf: PGA Tour 2010 - Sony Open 14-17 Jan Cheers Ani. That puts me at +1.50pts. I'll be back with the 2-balls later but am going to take an outright at the halfway stage. T.Matteson to win Sony Open, 1pt EW @ 33/1 Skybet (1/4 odds 1-2-3-4) Troy is a golfer I actually quite like and he's positioned pretty well to make a challenge over the weekend. Is standing in T8, 3 off the lead, after 2 rounds of 67. In both those rounds, he hit 4 birdies and 1 bogey. Played ok last week in the SBS but that will have got rid of the rustiness and he will be feeling really well at present. Drives a long way, T13 this week and his GIR is excellent which is key on these tight greens. The leaderboard isn't actually that clustered (unlike Round 1) so, with another 67 tonight, the price will look very good indeed. When you consider Stricker is only 1 ahead of him and is priced at just 5/1, then the 33's available here looks a bit of value.

Re: Golf: PGA Tour 2010 - Sony Open 14-17 Jan Taken a couple of 3rd round match bets for tonight. Robert Allenby vs Ryan Palmer - Ryan Palmer @ 2.7 Allenby played valiently with a twisted ankle in the last round but I suspect that would catch up with him. Allenby relied on his scrambling and putting in the second round as he failed to hit many fairways and greens as in the first round. I fully expect his putter to start to fail on him as we've seen so many times before when in contention. Palmer has played well hitting a lot of greens and putting nicely as usual. Palmer was 36th in 3rd round average score last year compared to Allenby in 144th. Sure, Allenby was probably at the business end of the scoreboard more but that just shows how he shakes under pressure when in America. YE Yang vs Jonathan Byrd - Jonathan Byrd @ 2.2 Both Yangs driving and GIR got worse in the second round while his putting was similar. His stats tee to green are similar to Byrd however, yesterday Byrd found his putting touch and hit 7 birdies going from a no hoper with a +5 first round to making the cut with a -6 second round and will look to carry the momentum through to the third round. His GIR is OK but his driving has been disappointing compared to what he has done through the last few seasons. Last year Byrd sat in 18th for his 3rd round scoring compared to Yang in 62nd. Fully expect Byrd to kick on while Yang is showing this season he is a lot more unpredictable. GL:hope

Re: Golf: PGA Tour 2010 - Sony Open 14-17 Jan First outright for me, and first bet of this tourney. I missed the selections pre tourney, so have missed the odds a bit, but at least I got an idea of how they are playing. 5 pts ew Zach Johnson to win Sony Open @ 9/2 Bet 365 (1-4, 1/4) 2.5 pts ew Zach Johnson to be 3rd round leader @ 4/1 Stan James (1-3, 1/4) I actually had some money on Johnson last night, and he rewarded my faith in him with a triple bogey 6 on his very next hole. However, the way he came back from that has convinced me the reigning champion here can win this for a 2nd year running. Despite that triple bogey, followed by a poor Par 5, and then another bogey, he still managed to record a -3 round, which is round about the course average. Without the triple bogey, he would theoretically have been 3 clear, and I think he is playing more than well enough to actually go in 2 or 3 strokes lower than those around him tonight. He knows the course well, plays it well, and should be very close come Sunday.

Re: Golf: PGA Tour 2010 - Sony Open 14-17 Jan Onto the 2-balls and I'm taking a few but here's the first. B.Weekley to beat J.Rollins, 3rd round 2-balls, 4pts @ 11/10 Skybet Both these players back in the field at -1 but it's the famous Boo I fancy to take the initiative here. Boo has played tremendously consistent golf this week and is very unlucky to not be better placed. Has hit just 1 bogey in 36 holes but just 2 birdies. Is ranked 1st for pars, 10th for driving distance and 9th for GIR; based on that, you'd expect him to be better than 40th. Rollins is on the same score but has hit more bogeys and is only comparable on driving distance. Off the fairway has been key this week and Boo ranked much better than Rollins last season on GIR and I fancy that will be enough to see him bring this one home at, what I believe, is a big price. M.Leishman to beat C.Collins, 3rd round 2-balls, 4pts @ 4/5 Bet365 I think Marc Leishman is a very nice golfer and fancy him strongly to win this. Has had too many bogeys so far this week but is hitting lots of greens and is putting well too. Collins has played above himself so far this week and I just feel his run will end. Based on last term, Collins missed the first 2 cuts of the season on the Nationwide tour so normally takes time to come to hand. Last season, Leishman was 17th for driving distance, 39th on GIR and, more importantly, was in the top 10 for both Par 4 birdie percentage and Round 3 scoring average. I just feel Marc is much the better player here and should bring this bet in with a bit to spare.

Re: Golf: PGA Tour 2010 - Sony Open 14-17 Jan Russ Not a bad shout with Matteson i reckon and I almost did him last nite but went for goosen and sabba instead, as the cream usually ends up on the top! Im wishing i'd have left goosen tho now as theres always seems to be a hint of desperation to me when the long putter comes out!( not sure hes cream anymore either). Boo is a risky bet for me, always the chance he wont be busting his ***** that far back, GL tho...the other one looks good tho.

Re: Golf: PGA Tour 2010 - Sony Open 14-17 Jan Zach Johnson is in great shape and if he didn't triple bogey the 17th & then right after bogey the 1st yesterday he'd be long odds on now! He is 1 stroke behind the leader and I feel he can emulate what Ogilvy did last weekend and that is to win back to back tournaments! Predictions: Outright Tom Lehman EW @81.00 William Hill (1/4 odds 1,2,3,4,) Although now a veteran playing on the seniors tour Lehman is bang there on -5. He finished runner up here in 2001 and started the season off with a 4th place finish last weekend in the 1st senior tour tournament of the season. His worst round of competitive golf in his last 30 rounds was an opening round of 75 in the Senior PGA Championship in May 2009. If he has a decent round again today he'll look decent odds here for an ew finish. :ok

Re: Golf: PGA Tour 2010 - Sony Open 14-17 Jan 2 more for me tonight. M.Wilson to beat R.Tambellini, 3rd round 2-balls, 4pts @ 5/6 Ladbrokes Both of these have been pretty good tee to green so far but Wilson has been better off the tee. Wilson also holds sway on the greens too and add to that he has 4 rounds under his belt from the SBS last week. Tambellini comes here from the Nationwide Tour and the pressure of this will prove too much. Wilson meanwhile had his best stats last year in Round 3, and was ranked well up on driving, GIR, putting and scrambling; you can't ask for much more than that and I feel that this price is too big against an average opponent. T.Lehman to beat M.Allen, 3rd round 2-balls, 4pts @ Evs Bet365 Experience counts for a lot here and, at this price, I'm taking Tom Lehman to prevail here. Allen has played pretty well and drives a long way before I'm concerned that he fall short if he fails to hit the greens. So far, his putting has rescued him and kept him in contention. Tom has played such solid golf and I expect it to continue. 3rd for accuracy and 2nd for GIR this week is excellent stats and anywhere near that will be more than enough to take this one.

Courtesy of BBC Sportwebsite There is everything to play for here today in the final round because I'm not convinced the joint leaders will be able to maintain their advantage. Although 3 shots looks like a decent advantage I believe they are 2 players who are not capable to maintain it and I have a feeling that they will fold under the pressure of playing with one another in the final pairing. Allenby has not won on the PGA Tour since a double winnning year in 2001 and he's had plenty of seemingly winnable chances only to blow it in his final round - The Honda Classic last year to name one where he finished 4th. Palmer hasn't won a PGA Tour event since 2008 and that was a minor event (Ginn sur Mer Classic). He had 1 top 10 finish last year & 2 top 20 finishes in total from 27 events and his wins on the tour have all been very minor events. The 2 players I'd be on now to prevail here are Zach Johnson & Steve Stricker. They are both recent winners and I'd class them both in the top 10 players in the world right now. You can get Stricker at a very tasty 7/1 Paddypower & Johnson 8/1 William Hill. (1/4 odds 1,2,3 places) I currently have Johnson as my main outright bet (@19.00 EW Paddypower 1,2,3,4,5). & I have Lehman EW @81.00 William Hill (1/4 odds 1,2,3,4,) who sits in a share of 7th place on -7. I'm hoping Johnson can get a good start because after a decent 1st round he's been scraping for his previous 2 rounds and sits in an ominous position ready to strike much like Ogilvy did last weekend to retain his title. It will also be a nice start to the PGA Golf Year for me to be 2 from 2 events. :ok

Re: Golf: PGA Tour 2010 - Sony Open 14-17 Jan Taking 4 for the final round, hoping to get back onto an even keel. D.Love to win Sony Open, 1pt EW @ 16/1 Skybet (1/4 odds 1-2-3) At the prices, I'm prepared to ignore the top 2 and hope they come back to the field. After that, they are 4 tied for 3rd, Zach Johnson & Steve Stricker who are both too short, and Davis Love & Troy Matteson. Already on Troy so will add Davis to the list. Played with Matteson yesterday and they both played some really solid golf so I hope they can take this forward into the final round. Has only hit 2 bogeys in 54 holes and was bogey free yesterday on a very difficult day 3. Love generally starts the season quickly and it's very rare for him not to have a top 3 finish in his first 2 events of the season so I'm on here expected that to continue from a pretty promising position. I certainly hope the winner comes from this group. RS.Johnson to beat A.Cabrera, 4th round 2-balls, 4pts @ 13/8 Stan James Big price of Johnson here to beat the inconsistent and often wayward Cabrera. After a good start, Angel hit a 73 yesterday in the wind and, with more of the same, I expect him to struggle again. He was poor yesterday on both accuracy (hitting 1 in 4 fairways) and GIR (less than 1 in 2). That won't be good enough here. Richard S Johnson though played much better and has improved round on round, following an opening 71 with a 70-67. In the Top 20 for both accuracy and putts per round so, provided he can hit the greens like he did in the last round (83%), he should take this en route to a nice finish. C.Howell III to beat P.Goydos, 4th round 2-balls, 4pts @ 4/5 Skybet Paul Goydos put himself right in contention with the best round of the week in Round 2, a 63, but not so good either side of that. Has topped the accuracy stats but his iron play has been nowhere near as good, finishing just 40th on GIR which is disappointing considering his placement from the tee. His putting in Round 2 was awesome and that skews the stats. His putting either side of that round was mediocre at best. Charles Howell, meanwhile, is played really well following a 73 opener with a pairs of 66's. Is tied 4th for birdies, hitting 14 so far, is 10th for distance, 4th for accuracy, 17th for putting and 9th for GIR. That putting stat would have been much stronger but for a poor opening round. In terms of putts per round, following an opening 33 with a 30, then a 27. Confidence will be at a high and I think he will take this unless Goydos puts in a repeat of his Round 2 exploits. B.Baird to beat T.Lehman, 4th round 2-balls, 4pts @ 6/5 SportingBet This looks a big price on a player who fired a superb 64 yesterday. Briny has putted beautifully this week and has drove the ball really well, ingredients that will help him today. If he can hit the greens like he did in Round 3, then another low round is very possible. That seems likely considering he finished 10th last season on the tours GIR stats. Likes the track too, having had 3 Top 10's in the last 10 years here. Tom Lehman has also played pretty well this week but the stats clearly show he's getting progressively worse. Only hit 36% of fairways yesterday in the wind and 67% of greens (after 94% in Round 1). Is T7 but I expect him to fade away if the wind blows again and see Baird come past him with a bit to spare.

Re: Golf: PGA Tour 2010 - Sony Open 14-17 Jan Did well on the final day 2 balls in the US last year so let's see if it's still there for me in 2010. Just one for tonight. 3pts N.Green to beat C.Pettersson (DNB) 6/5 Paddy Power Match tees off at 22.43 GMT. I like Nathan Green's chances in this matchup. He isn't as long as the big Swede off the tee but he's a lot more accurate and that could be the key here. Green had a poor 1st round, shooting a one over 71 in a round where he had a really poor back 9 with 4 bogeys in 5 holes. Since then he's played 2 really good rounds and has only had 3 bogeys in 36 holes, and more importantly 9 birdies and an eagle. He's driving it better over the last couple of rounds and I see no reason why that won't continue today. Pettersson has been consistent with his scoring this week but he's got 8 bogeys on his card over the week so he's still not perfect, and as I say he's been pretty wayward off the tee. Nathan Green has a T12 and a 5th place finish here in the past and the 5th place came courtesy of a 65 & 64 on the weekend. He shot a 65 yesterday so history could be repeating itself. Pettersson's had a top 10 here but he's missed the cut in 2 of the last 3 years so it's not a course that he's mastered yet. Green's got the momentum of his excellent round yesterday behind him and I think he'll outscore the Swede in this final round.

Re: Golf: PGA Tour 2010 - Sony Open 14-17 Jan Still got a doubt about Allenby winning on pga tour for first time on 8 years, he was struggling to find fairways on back 9 yesterday, would rather lay than back him around 7/4 Johnson & Stricker need to get on a roll early on get those birdies:hope
