So far this year she's been beaten by top players (Petrova' date= Zvonareva, Pennetta) in reasonably close games and is one of the few who have taken a set off the fantastic Azarenka. Powerful player who has some solid results this year and smashed Pennetta 6-1 6-1 in the 1st round. Dunno why she's the dog here. Prices are dropping already but up to 2.2 still available on stanjames. More on this later when I look into it. Venus a bit too short here I think. She's had a few 3 setters lately and dropping a set against Mattek isn't good at all, although she can always afford to be a bit lax and then bring out the big guns when required. Safarova's capable of competing with the top players on her day and did a good job on talented Lisicki in the first round. These two had a 3 setter in Rome and I expect something similar here. Not sure about Haas, beat Pavel but he's nowhere near fit and I think this should be close to evens. Monaco @ 1.7 Betfair. Despite being at home, I don't fancy Tsonga. He's really quite average on clay and Monaco is a proper clay courter and should give him a lesson here. SAFAROVA @ 2.42 Betfair. Like this price with Safarova a set up. She's got a big hitting game to hurt Venus and from the little I saw on the 1st set she was playing well. Should have got on pre match! Bammer @ 1.94 Betfair. This seems a bit strange - I thought Bammer would be a pretty strong fav. She's a much better player, and got a reasonable win in the 1st round. She struggled in a couple of tournaments leading up to this but I think that could have to do with her sometimes not turning up 100% mentally to tournaments. The handicap bet was a bit silly in hindsight as Venus could still win by a decent margin and eat into my profit but that'll have to do. I quite fancy Shvedova to give Sharapova a shock for the same reasons Mr.I gave for backing Petrova. Shvedova backed up her 3 set win over big serving Kanepi by battering Rus in under an hour, winning 21/22 1st serve points and only losing 6 points on serve in total. Until she's match fit, I don't think Sharapova will be bagging any easy straight set wins for a while, especially not on clay where she always looks awkward and expecially not against a decent opponent like this. The H2H is 2:0 to Cibulkova with two straight sets wins on clay in 2007 and 2008 for the very young Cibulkova then and now she is a better player than in those seasons. REZAI TO D LARCHER DE BRITO @ 1.47 on betfair Rezai has such a good powerful game suited for all surfaces and she is in good form winning Strasbourg last week. Larcher De Brito was lucky to escape first round and is not at her best on clay. Rezai defeated Larcher De Brito by 6:1, 6:2 two months ago in Miami. GICQUEL TO D BECK @ 2.14 on betfair Beck is a good young player but his power game is not suited to clay. He had one good clay court tournament in his career (Monaco 2009) and this should be the reason for such high odds but otherwise he lacks consistency for slow courts. Roddick has a tricky one with Minar and despite it being his weakest surface,he's not been half bad on dirt in recent matches.Expect a win.Seppi is on fire aswell and should beat Maximo Gonzalez.Novak will win but hopefully he does it in 3. They both have been top 10 for a long time. Moreover , Davydenko leads 4-1 at head to head statictics including one clay victory against Verdasco. The last meeting was 3 years agp in 2006. After 2006 , davydenko stays at the same point . ( may be going back ) But Verdasco improves himself. ( Especially in physical point of view ) He solved his cramp problems. And he strengthen his arms. After remembering Verdasco - Almagro match eventough odds are very low i think Verdasco's victory against Davydenko is safe bet. Davydenko can take a set , but i do not think he is close to victory against Verdasco. History will repeat again ; Verdasco will beat Davydenko. The serve isn't right, she's making lots of UEs and Na Li will be the strongest opponent she's faced so far. Cilic looks interesting and anything around 3.00 looks pretty good value. He's got superior form at the moment and Murray has been in trouble with Starace and Tipsy. H2H is in Murray's favour but the matches were quite tight. Verdasco has showed he has turned up mentally (winning two tough tie breaks against Almagro). H2H shows 4-1 to Davydenko, Verdasco must feel he has something to prove against the Russian. Verdasco should be fresh after coming through each round in straight sets (83 games) and I see no problems here. He's had a couple of sticky patches during a couple of his matches so it shows there's still a long way to go for him. But he's come through them well. Cilic has breezed through his opening rounds so far. His form coming into this match is ok. Since winning a ATP 250 tournament in Zagreb in Feb he hasn't progressed beyond 3 matches into a tournament suggesting this is the extent of playing level. 1.42 for Murray is probably the right price at the moment. I see no value in backing Murray before the game. Murray may get off to one of his slow starts so I would advise waiting for the first set to be completed. Murray struggled a bit against Starace and needed a breaker in the first set against Tipsarevic. Cilic is a strong server and I feel that for this bet to come in he'll only need to win one set. He's improved his game lately and seems to be more constant. In front of his supporters he should have an even clearer advantage. Roddick is poor on his backhand, everyone knows it and on clay without the backhand you can't win. Because a strong forehand won't save you. And being a slower surface a poor backhand if played intenselt can give a great advantage to the opponent, especially when the opponent is a clay specialist and a good player.
