Bowles' "live" Monthly betting book

Re: Bowles' "live" Monthly betting book Thanks Russ for the comments My aim is to make profit each month The difficult thing is that if i fancy a bet whilst at work i cant do it as i cant post it up beforehand, i can honestly say i havent had any other bets for myself during the period of this thread. 60 odd bets in just over a month is probably half of what i would nornally do in recent years so this is really keeping my discipline. Hope to take a look tomorrow whilst working form home didnt fancy anything today although the camel jockey only had 1 ride at Salisbury today which duly won at 9/4.

Re: Bowles' "live" Monthly betting book 4.40 NEWMARKET RANGEFINDER (1m4f, Cl3, GF) Cumani's horses are always worth considering on their 2nd outing at this time of year. Consistently over time, they need a first run which this selection had & ran a reasonable 3rd place over 10f at ripon 2 weeks ago. Bringing it out so quick, i wonder if Cumani knows he has to take advantage of the handicap mark of 83 & has booked Ryan Moore for the ride. The italian form previous to this season is ok & has been a winner on last 2 starts last season over there. BET 62 4.40 Newm RANGEFINDER 4pts win @ 2/1 bet365 (BOG) 2.30 BRIGHTON BEST ONE (5f, Cl5, GF) This is a sprinter you have to catch right on the day however after winning this race last year, you have to give it a squeak off a 3lb higher mark (jockey claims 3lb) on the same fast ground & has a favoured middle to high draw. Looks great value at 12/1 Bet 63 2.30 BRIGHTON BEST ONE 2pts ew @ 12/1 Bet365 (BOG)

Re: Bowles' "live" Monthly betting book very disappointing run from those 2 & should have maybe followed what i saw the other week at Windsor with Martyr followiing up, thats at least 3 winners from that meeting now with both Crown & Tawaabb winning in the last week or so. another one for tonight 7.20 HAYDOCK MISTER LAUREL (6f, Cl4, Hvy) I backed this the other week & it ran too bad to be true. Fahey has dropped it in class tonight to class 4 & its his only runner at the meeting. The heavy ground is an unknown as the horses best form is on a decent surface however i would expect Fahey wants to get a run into the horse that potentially may get further in time (out of Diktat). BET 64 7.20 HAYDOCK MISTER LAUREL 3pts win @ 9/2 Hills

Haydock is worrying me with the ground being heavy however i am only backing those proven on that ground. I am not enjoying the Newmarket track at present & will probably have 1 bet there today. Beverley is a specialist track & c/D winners are in my mind. Selections to follow....

Re: Bowles' "live" Monthly betting book 3.25 Newmarket DARK LANE & PROCLAIM (6f, Cl2, GF) Proclaim was impressive last time out winning by 2.5L in a class 3 handicap, steps up today to class 2 heritage & is now 9lb higher than last time & 16lb higher than the mark it started the season on! This worries me that the handicapper has stopped the horse. bouvardia is another who has risen steeply with an 11lb rise this season. Yes, horses can improve up to at least 20lb in a season but they are always there for the taking by another potential improver. For me that horse is probably going to be DARK LANE who is up 4lb for its latest win in a class 4 handicap but open to further improvement & is 8lb lower than Bouvardia & 10lb lower than Proclaim. BET 65 Dark Lane 3pts win @ 6/1 Corals BET 66 Proclaim 2pts win 5/1 @ >Hills 3.10 Haydock CAPTAIN GERRARD (5f, Grp2, Hvy) Captain Gerrard form on soft ground reads 1-1-1 & Borderlescott form on soft is 1-1, 2 of the favs are non runners leaving these 2 to defend thier unbeaten soft ground record (its heavy today but neither have encountered heavy before) BET 67 CAPTAIN GERRARD 2pts ew @ 7/1 Bet365 (BOG) 3.40 Haydock DESERT CREEK (1m, Cl2, Hvy) Myself & Alexmac have been waiting to see where Desert Creek ends up after an impressiv display at Windsor 3 weeks ago beating Emirates Roadshow with a bit in hand. Stoutes apprentice rides & has hit decent form with 5 wins in last 20 rides mostly for stoute. Desert has won on soft ground also so the ground should be ok. BET 68 DESERT CREEK 8pts win @ 9/4 >Hills. 4.50 Haydock ALANBROOKE (1m4f, Cl2, Hvy) i backed Alanbrooke last week at newbury & felt it was a winner without a penalty, however it has gone up 3lb to 81 but i would advise to follow especially with 5th place Brunston franking the form by wonnig at Goodwood on Friday. BET 69 2pts double ALANBROOKE 2/1 >Bet365 & DESERT CREEK 2/1 Bet365 3.20 Beverley FULLANDBY (5f, cl2, Gd) 3.20 5f sprint high numbers normally favoured so my original fancy Advanced out of stall 2 may find it hard to repel those drawn high. Fullandby has won here before over 5f & is very well drawn in stall 11. It ran too bad to be true last time out when last at Newmarket. BET 70 3.20 Beverley FULLANDBY 4pts win @ 4/1 Hills 23pts staked on the day

Re: Bowles' "live" Monthly betting book Mixed day however my biggest bet of the day won on Desert Creek & a great price also (SP was 5/4). Fullandby was 2nd & annoyed that Excusez moi won at its expense. Proclaim & Dark Lane were disappointing also. With AlanBrooke a NR, my double bet pays a single on Desert Creek also. Was looking at Westwood in the next race 5.25 but a bit late now so wont bother with it.

Re: Bowles' "live" Monthly betting book Despite a bumper racing card today, beware of the Bank Holidays (i call them Bookies Holidays as invariably, this is the day they make thier money), so i have managed to find just 2 bets today with plenty of justification. GOODWOOD 3.10 CHARLIE FARNSBARNS (1m1f, Cl1, G/F) I managed to back this last year at 66/1 when it won the Group 3 Darley stakes at Newmarket beating Bankable & Kirklees. After going over the Nad Al Sheba for the Group 1 Duty free, it has now had 2 ruins this season, the latter being a listed stakes at Ascot which i was there to see. This was over a trip too far for CF, however it led the line until just over a furlong out & beaten only 4.5L behind the impressive Duncan. Back to a more suitable trip today, the horse is available at double figure odds which looks a decent EW value to me. BET 71 - GOOD 3.10 CHARLIE FARNSBARNS 2pts ew @ 10/1 Skybet 3.55 REDCAR KINGDOM OF FIFE (1mf, cl2, G/F) Stoute has only runner between now & thursday & Ryan Moores only ride of th eday, so why the trip up north to land this prize? Well its worth over £30k to the winner & is worth having on the CV. Normally goes to an improver so at 4yo, the selection still has plenty of racing left. 2nd at Chester last time out behind Cheshire Prince (sh hd defeat) & 9lb higher than that day however most of these are running off much higher marks than best wins. At the price, its worth taking a chance that Stoute has made the right choice. Trip & ground look fine. BET 72 - 3.55 REDCAR KINGDOM OF FIFE 6pts WIN @ 9/4 Ladbrokes

Re: Bowles' "live" Monthly betting book SANDOWN 7.45 PIPEDREAMER (1m2f, Grp3, Gd) The group 3 looks a cracking race with breeders cup winner Conduit heading the field. It rose 33lb in the weights last season (now rated 46lb higher than last April!) & finished with a great prize. I backed it here last April when it failed to beat stablemate Colony! Will wait & see if last years exertions have taken thier toll. Godolphin horse Campanologist looked best when making all at R Ascot last june & was 4th here in the eclipse soon after. On previous form I cant see it beating Pipedreamer who i backed for this race last year when 3rd to surprise winner Smokey Oakey on very soft ground. Pipedreamers recent shd 2nd to Tartan Bearer here last month looks the best form coming into the race. It ran consistently well during last season & looks capable of picking up prizes as a 5yo this year. BET 73 - SANDOWN 7.45 PIPEDREAMER 10pts win @ 15/8 Paddypower (GP) 6.05 SANDOWN SERIOUS IMPACT (1m 2f, Cl4, Gd) Serious Impact stands out for me as Gosden does well here & Fortune rides the track well. Ignoring its only 3yo start when it misbehaved in the stalls, it won 1st time this season over 10f & then upped to 12f finished a close 3rd to spring jim at york 2 weeks ago. Rival Kensington Oval was disapointing at Royal Ascot last year after winning here on debut impressively. That horse didnt look an easy ride on final start at Ascot either. BET 74 - SANDOWN 6.05 SERIOUS IMPACT 4pts WIN @ SP 8.20 SANDOWN ASHRAM (1m, Cl1, Gd) For me Racketeer looked impressive when winning the Esher cup here last time, however the form hasnt yet been franked. I wouldnt rule out the Godolphin horse Ashram that ran down the field in the Guineas. The stable hadnt fired at that time but since have been among the winners. A small interest for me. BET 75 - SANDOWN 8.20 ASHRAM 5pts win @ 9/2 PaddyPower (GP) 8.50 SANDOWN SHAMALI (1m, Cl3, Gd) 8.50 one of my notebook horses runs in the race Medici Pearl. I suggested waiting for softer ground over 7f however looking at its previous form it has ran ok over the mile notably when 3rd at Newbury to Extra terrestial in April off 90. Made good progress from the rear to finish 7th at York last time out in the race won by Yamal. Main concern is that Easterby doesnt have winners here 0-8 in 5 years, so will probably wait another day!! . Kavachi looks ok at the weights but probably prefers a straight track. There isnt going to be much pace in the race with so many hold up horses & i like the look of Haggas's horse Shamali. BET 76 - SANDOWN 8.50 SHAMALI 4pts win @ SP

Re: Bowles' "live" Monthly betting book

I think we were unlucky last night. Watched the Pipedreamer race again' date=' and Fortune certainly loses his whip :([/quote'] Talking of Pipedreamer - do you (or Bowles for that matter) think that the horse really stays the 1m 2f ? Thats not the first occasion he has failed to get home after travelling well, and I think he would be much better dropped to 1 mile. I'll be honest to say that it was my worry before last night but I still backed him thinking that Gosden knew better, but after seeing last nights performance, personally, it confirmed my doubt of him not staying. What do you guys think ?

looking at a shortlist now for tomorrow 3.05 Haydock MAIN AIM (Stoute) 4.10 Haydock SAYIF (Chapple Hyam) 4.05 Doncaster MISTER HARDY (Fahey) 4.40 Doncaster FALCATIV (Cumani) 3.25 Goodwood KING OF DIXIE (Knight) 3.45 York SIRENS GIFT * (Balding) * Note book horse Got 6 to choose from across 4 cards. will look again in the morning.
Decided against Main Aim, should be a fascinating race however although worth being excited about its 7L win LTO, did it beat much & not won above class 2 yet. Sure to go close but this is a decent race with the likes of Arabian Gleam sure to be taking it on. 4.10 HAYDOCK SAYIF (6f, Cl1, G/S) 2nd in the middle park last season as a 2yo, & although flopping in last seasons last race at Doncaster, won 1st time up this season in a conditions event. Munro rides ahead of Spencer which is another plus. Trainer has 7 winners in last 15 runners so on a hot streak of form. BET 76 HAYDOCK 4.10 - SAYIF 5pts win @ 3.05 Betfair 4.40 DONCASTER FALCATIV (1m4f, Cl2, G/F) High class family out of Falbrav (top class G1 performer) & Frottola. On a 4 timer tomorrow after winning 2 AW races in decent handicaps. Both wins were reasonably comfortable & perhaps Cumani will be looking to one of his favourite handicaps The Ebor at York with this one as it should get the trip for that race. Has plenty of stamina & could easily be a potential Group class horse in the making. BET 77 4.40 DONCASTER FALCATIV 5pts @ 2.86 Betfair BET 78 FALCATIV & SAYIF 3pts win double 3.25 GOODWOOD BUSHMAN (1m, C1, Gd) Back in trip to a mile which it won over to land the Whitsun cup at Sadnown a year ago. Since tried over 10f on 4 occasions finihsing 2nd at Sandown to Cecils horse Many volmues. Beaten last time out in the group 3 stakes at Chester behind Doctor FReemantle, i still think this horse is capable of better & could be the value. I did like KIng of Dixie from William Knights stable but just think this is perhaps too much for the horse although i do think it could be placed. BET 79 3.25 GOODWOOD BUSHMAN 1pt EW @ 33/1 Ladbrokes 3.45 YORK SIRENS GIFT (5f, Cl2, G/F) This is a horse i think has a decent handicap in it. led to the line LTO behind Look Busy (group winner of the temple stakes since). That day ended up 3rd in a blanket finish by a nse & hd. Its OR of 93 is its last winning mark & jockey David Probert gets on well with the horse unlucky not to win the portland last season when caught again in the final strides. its 2 wins have both come on fast ground. BET 80 3.45 YORK SIRENS GIFT 10pts win 11/2 Bet365 (BOG)

Re: Bowles' "live" Monthly betting book Best of luck Rob, some juicy bets there:ok Quick question....as you & many others have alluded to previously, staking plans are pretty important. It's something I struggle with to so just go with level stakes. Your stakes seem to vary quite a lot recently so I was wondering what staking plan you have adopted? Cheers:ok

Russ, i have decided to go as follows: 1-2pts - doesnt meet the full criteria i want but has the ability to win the race based on previous form lines etc 3-5pts - meets the criteria i normally look at 5-10pts - i have seen the horse already or it is in my notebook for future runs. 10pts + - havent had one yet but will do through the season, these are the ones i feel have all the boxes ticked & in my opinion are ready to run thier race. Therefore, this is not based on price at all which in the past i have been guilty of adjusting stake to meet the price.

well the race i left alone was Main Aim who won well with Arabian Gleam also running well in 3rd. Another poor day for me & an expensive 2 days with Thursday night starting the decline & yesterday ensuring the month went out like a damp squib. The reasons for backing those horses yesterday were clear to see, in fact Bushman & Sirens Gift were 2 of C4's market movers on the day. I had double the price on both from Friday night. Horses to take out of Saturday would be Main Aim to follow albeit the next race will be in Group class perhaps at Royal Ascot. I think the Golden Jubilee may be the target but a G1 may be too tough at this stage. Bushman ran well enough for me to consider it again. it led until 2f out & then kept battling away & should win a race at some point this season. Not sure if anyone saw Peter Island streak to the front at Goodwood only to be caught at the 1f pole by the other runners. This was a jump in class from its usual class 4 runs but when back in that company should be kept an eye on IMO, will need to drop a few pounds as highest win rating was 79. Ran off 86 yesterday.

Re: Bowles' "live" Monthly betting book Start of a new month & hopefully better things. Windsor is normally kind to me so here goes: 6.25 WINDSOR - NADEEN (5f, Cl5, G/F) Nadeen defied a poor start to win at Brighton on debut & hopefully over its greeness now, has the service of the top jockey & course specialist Ryan Moore tonight. Runner up Little perisher franked the form to win at Ascot next time out. 3/1 with Bet365 looks a cracking price & i may even back it EW in case the fav is decent. BET 81 - 6.25 WINDSOR NADEEN 1.5pts EW @ 3/1 BET365 7.25 WINDSOR - BOLD ARGUMENT (6F, CL4, G/F) Looks like a number of horses could be in with a shout here & as Alexmac has already mentioned, Carleton was noted earlier in the season & perhaps tonight is the night for that one as its been backed from 5/1 to 3/1 tonight (perhaps its Alex's money!). For me, in stall 10, Bold Argument could be worth a go for a bit of interest at 7/1, previous course & distance winner is now on a winning mark & Jack Mitchell seems to know the horse well after riding it for some time now. BET 82 - 7.25 WINDSOR BOLD ARGUMENT 1PT EW @ 7/1 BET365 8.55 WINDSOR - GLOUCESTER (1M 3F, CL5, G/F) I have enjoyed following some of the recent horses that have reverted to the flat after succesful campaigns over the sticks. Rated 125 over hurdles, i would expect Gloucester to run very well off a mark off 66 tonight. Its 3/1 fav with Bet365. BET 83 - 8.55 WINDSOR GLOUCESTER 3PTS WIN @ 3/1 BET365

Re: Bowles' "live" Monthly betting book Thanks BH, aim is to stay in profit mate:hope Noted from Windsor last night, Acquisition in the 8.25 beaten approx a length into 4th, but was the one making eye catching progress after eventual winner Pictorial under a typical Ryan Moore ride had taken the race up 3f out. Ridden hands & heels this horse would have won with another 50 yards & for its first run on a racecourse over 1m2f, the horse looks to have a good future. It has very decent breeding & will get a mile and a half. The 2nd last night should also be good enough to pick up a race - Shakalaka.

Noted that Charm School is finally tried over further, however i am sure the horse would be better suited by a bit of cut also. 3.25 Epsom Lake Poet 3pts win @ 10/3 Bet365 BOG will do the full reasoning tomorrow

I have previewed the race in the Epsom thread & feel its a 2 horse race with Midday being the challenger. If Spencer can keep his head, it will be a classic wiinner dinner with Emma tonight.
