Re: Bowles' "live" 30 day betting book Todays Racing: 3.05 LEICESTER - ALCADE (1M 4F, CLASS 3, G/FIRM) only 4 runners contest this £15000 handicap & 2 from Johnston's stable. Alcade won its 2 races as a 2yo beating Heliodor on its final outing, that horse going on to win a conditions race at Newmarket in November & now rated 92. Alcade starts the season off a rating of 82 & i think has the scope to improve off that mark. Both wins were with a bit of cut in the ground so thats the only worry, as breeding suggests the trip will be ok. Apprentice Matthew Lawson rides the horse & takes 7lb off. Its stable companion Holberg looks like a miler to me at best & surprised to see it going up 4f in trip today off top weight. It is also raised 6lb for its latest win. Gosden has lively fling in the race & must be respected with the trip no problem when winning 1st time up this season over c/d. The 2nd that day Shemoli has since run well to be 2nd to Chilly Filly at Doncaster last week. The 4th horse in the race is Orbitor trained by Michael Bell & i am not sure the trip will suit this one either. Overall, the 7lb that the apprentice claims for Alcade may be the difference here. BET 9 - ALCADE 4pts WIN @ 11/4 Bet365 (BOG) 2.20 RIPON - MISTER LAUREL (6F, CLASS 3, G/FIRM) Trainer thinks a lot of this horse & that it has improvement in it. Duly won 1st time up over C/D 2 weeks ago. it ran in 2 of the big sales races for 2yo's last year without troubling the judge but its current mark of 79 still looks like a winning one to me. By Diktat, the horse could run over anything up to a mile & i wonder if they will go to 7f at some point this season. The horses to beat are Proclaim up 7lb for last weeks win & Coleorton Choice who boasts a c/d win but now 7lb higher than last win. BET 10 - MISTER LAUREL 5pts WIN @ 9/4 Paddy Power (GP) Part 2 to follow....

Re: Bowles' "live" 30 day betting book 3.10 SANDOWN (3M 5F 110y, GRADE 3, GOOD) My trend selections were narrowed down to 3 horses & i will be backing 2 of these: OODACHEE BOWLEAZE Both have the required credentials to win this race & can have a hand in the finish, I am thinking they are both ew chances in this competitive event. Bowleaze has course form which is a plus for me & the ground suits both of them. BET 11 - OODACHEE 8/1 Hills (GP) 1pt EW BET 12 - BOWLEAZE 12/1 Bet365 (BOG) 1pt EW 4.50 SANDOWN - STEVIE THUNDER (1M, CLASS 2, GOOD) This horse excelled at this time last year rising through the weights after 3 wins between April & June. It's worst finish was 5th on its last start. It gets a mile ok & is a gutsy performer, it won here over 7f last term & from stall 4 should be able to assert from the leading pack. bet365 have gone big on this one at 20/1. didnt see the racing as i was at football today (bore!) & forgot to tape it. A bit of an up & down day. Pity that Alcade was pulled out & note that the stable companion ended up beating the jolly. mister Laurel was last of 8 despite starting 7/4 fav, disappointed with that one & the dnager i pointed out Proclaim won the race. My selections in the big jump race were 5th & 6th but not close enough to get into the places. Stevie Thunder got into the places again & well happy with the 20/1 i took earlier in the day. Alasadaa was a ready winner of the hurdle race at Sandown & annoyed i forgot to add it into the thread before the race. As i said in the earlier post, it was one of my bets & this thread is all about that. 13 pts staked 22.34 pts returned (5% comm taken off Alasadaa return). Re: Bowles' "live" 30 day betting book 4.20 NEWCASTLE - SUNRISE SAFARI (6F, CLASS 2, G/FIRM) I recall the horse which was formerly trained by Ian Semple who i followed for some time before his ban. The horse is capable of much better than this rating of 85 sggests & i expect it to shine in a few big handicaps this year starting with this one. Drawn well but is normally held up a bit, will have to pass the likes of Valery Borzov which will lead. Normally takes at least 1 or 2 races to hit form so :hope its outing at beverley earlier in the month blew away some cobwebs. BET 14 - SUNRISE SAFARI 2pts EW @ 9/1 Bet365 (BOG)

Re: Bowles' "live" 30 day betting book BATH 5.05 SIRENS GIFT (5F, CLASS 1, G/FIRM) This is a horse i like, & its young jockey is one of the stars of the future. To be honest, this class 1 event has only attracted what i feel are no more than 4 horses that can win in this grade, Pusey Street Lady, Look Busy & Bahamian Babe are the other 3. A mid to high draw is possibly favourable & 3 of the 4 have high draws with Look busy in stall 7 of 17. I personally thought that Sirens gift should have won the portland handicap last year when just getting caught in the final strides & ended up 3rd. Probert probably went a bit too soon that day & has hopefully learnt from it. The horse runs consistently & can peak at 5. The horse tends to travel well through its races & should be thereabouts at the business end. Trainer balding has hit 6 winners in last 14 days so no problem with stable form. No prices up so will have to settle for SP tomorrow on this thread. BET 15 - SIRENS GIFT 2.5pts EW

Re: Bowles' "live" 30 day betting book Looking at the Ascot card, i am not backing 2yo's until i have seen them a few times or noted them in running. In the 2.45, Rose Diamond deserves to start favourite based on its 2nd to Fantasia last season however the horse was highly tried in decent group races & its 4th behind Ouqba at the Craven meeting doesnt give me much confidence in taking a short price. Uvinza may be the one to take it on & was only 1L down when they met as 2yo's behind Rainbow View last Sept in the May Hill stakes at Doncaster. 4.30 ASCOT - NASRI (6F, CLASS 1, G/FIRM) Interesting to see Nasri out so quickly after what i would expect they would call a disappointing run in the Greenha at Newbury 11 days ago. That was over 7f & the horse was in front with 2f to go & then peetered out. However, the horse can show tomorrow how much speed it has & Ascot may play to its strengths as its drawn 2 & can get the rail & hopefully repel allcomers. Over 6f last season it won on its 3rd & 4th starts both at Newbury before failing in the Horris Hill on last start on softer ground. Last weeks ground wasnt ideal either therefore this is why i think it will return to form over its best distance & best ground. Going to back it each way as Paddy Power are offering 8/1 & a guaranteed price as well! BET 16 - 4.30 ASCOT NASRI 2pts ew @ 8/1 Paddy Power

Re: Bowles' "live" 30 day betting book At Yarmouth tonight, Charm School runs in the 6.00 race, finished 8th in the Lincoln drawn high, & then 7th in the Newbury Spring cup, i wonder if this animal will prove expensive to follow this season. Certainly the faster ground is a worry tonight as its best form is on a softer surface. If the ground had been softer i might be interested though. I wouldnt be having any money on the Godolphin runner so perhaps Mia's boy may be the call in this race but wont be parting with any money. I have found a bet though in the 7.00 race. 7.00 YARMOUTH - KING COLOMBO (1m, CLASS 5, G/FIRM) I noted this horse last June at Kempton when it just failed to last home in a 1m handicap off a rating of 80. Following that the stable stepped the horse up in trip which surprised me a bit finishing 10th at Sandown off 83, then reverted back to 1m at sandown again finishing 6th, then stepped up again running poorly over 10 & 12f, finishing with a decent effort over a 1m when 3rd to Casino Night at Newmarket in October (OR72). It races today off OR70 which is a definite chance of a winning mark for me. It was visored for 1st time on last outing but doesnt have the headgear on today. They have out a 7lb claimer on board who hasnt registered a winner yet & the Trainer has a strike rate of 4-64 at the track. Those stats do not impress if you compare with the chances of Chris Walls horse in the race however the OR of 70 is the interest for me here. BET 16 - YARMOUTH 7.00 KING COLOMBO 2pt EW @ 10/1 Bet365

Re: Bowles' "live" 30 day betting book Going to post the bet for Sundays 1000 Guineas now as i think this might start odds on: ANTE POST 1000 GUINEAS - RAINBOW VIEW (1m, Group 1) 10pts WIN @ 11/8 Sporting bet Unbeaten horse, finishing with a 2.5L beating of Fantasia at Ascot in the Group 1 fillies mile. Showed a great turn of foot that day & looked certain for Guineas favouritism. Reported to be working well & hasnt needed a prep run, which i feel is a vital clue to the winning trend in these races now. Of her rivals, Serious Attitude may be the one if reproducing its Cheveley Park effort which was most impressive albeit over 2f shorter it did register a better performance than 4 of the last 5 winners of that race (apart from Natagora, last years 1000 guineas winner). The other rivals have all dodged the race for various reasons & this looks a good bet to me.

was right about Charm School, that horse may be better later on, watch it win at big odds now at R Ascot!! My bet finished 5th after leading until about 1.5f from the post, the apprentice looked a bit scared when they all loomed up & took him on, the horse looked a bit unbalanced at that stage & despite a few cracks of the whip, it wasnt enough for a place. Re: Bowles' "live" Monthly betting book Changed the title to "monthly" as i intend to keep this running for the forseeable future. Firstly, i have been impressed by my discipline in these first 12 days with only 16 bets placed. In that time, i reckon i would normally have had 40 bets. Secondly, I am putting more time into analysing certain races & not getting distracted by the large number of meetings to pick from. Lastly, the profit is healthy so far! Re: Bowles' "live" Monthly betting book Saturday 2nd May Firstly from my notebook list, Medici Pearl runs today in the Thirsk Hunt Cup. I noted i would prefer to back the horse on ground with a bit of cut. Of its 6 wins, 1 has come on Good, g/f in places, the other 5 have come on softer or heavy ground. 4 of its 6 wins have come at 7f & 2 at 1m, which is why i am hoping to see it out over 7f this season. 4.15 THIRSK - MANGHAM 2pts EW @ 11/1 Hills In the race itself, i am willing to give Mangham another go, it led the spring mile field for 5f at Doncaster before stopping to a walk when beaten. The horse is ridden from the front which suits Thirsk & the 5 stall should be ideal for that. Carries top weight again here but is lightly raced & looks to have a bit of potential still. At 11/1 Hills, willl be on EW. 3.45 NEWMARKET - STRIKE THE DEAL 3pts EW @ 8/1 Bet365 Carried a Group 2 penalty last season after its exploits as a 2yo when winning at R Ascot. Noseda then took in the breeders cup & a winter in Dubai & it showed last season when the horse was just coming up short. The good news is Noseda has tucked it away for the winter & is taking in the Group sprints this season. 3.10 NEWMARKET - RIP VAN WINKLE 5PTS WIN @ 4/1 Hills (GP) This is becoming a very difficult one to call for me now, with the front 5 in the betting all commanding respect. I followed Evasive last season & doubts about the 1m trip are the worry for him however, Guineas winners normally step up in trip from 2yo's but its the breeding thats the concern. The one that ticks the boxes for me is Rip Van Winkle & the Dewhurst is the key race from last season. The horse was probably given too much to do that day & wasnt given a hard time at the end trailing in 7th but only beaten a few lengths.

Re: Bowles' "live" Monthly betting book 5.30 NEWMARKET GAILEY NOBLE 1pt EW @ 16/1 Bet365 Only 7 runners in this race but i dont feel this should be the outside of the pack. I assume its because the trainer A Haynes is the least known. The horse has already ran 3 times this season finishing 1-2-2. Won easily on the AW on seasonal reappearnce winning by 5L over 9f, then upped in trip to 10f, finished 2nd a shd behind the winner Badge of Honour from Johnston stable. Finished 2nd on its latest run at Beverley on turf, & upped in class today but back to 1m.

The faster ground should also be in its favour. Was entered for teh Guineas but that plan was shelved after its last run. Wouldnt be surprised if it returns to form today. 3Nr's have reduced the field to 5 & now looks a match between this one & exceptional art who may just need this run.

In terms of P/L a poor day with no return from 6 bets & most of my profit down the drain. These are my notes: Mangham 7th, led to the 1f pole after forcing the pace, got swallowed up by the pack but a respectable run nonetheless. Put it over 7f at somewhere like Epsom & i can see this horse slipping the field. Strike the deal 4th , ran well, didnt get into the race until the last furlong. Ran on at the death & is still on my list. Perhaps should be upped to 6f next time. Rip Van Winkle 4th, ran a strange race looking to be going well when covered up at the halfway mark. Then when Murtagh pressed the button the horse had to be switched to get a run & finished on the far side closing at the end. Will be better over further. Evasive 6th, led in front group until headed, 7f horse deffo! Gailey Noble 5th, weakened over 1f out when the pace quickened. May be interesting back in cl4 at some point. Re: Bowles' "live" Monthly betting book 2.00 NEWMARKET DANCE THE STAR (1m 4f, Class 2, G/Firm) Reading the trainer profile on David Simcock, he listed this horse as one to follow as a 4yo. Looking at its form, 8 runs of which 6 have been on the AW. 3 wins coming over this distance but only in class 4 handicaps. Needed the run at Kempton in April when 6th of 7 behind Press the Button but that was over 10f, where clearly its best trip is 12f. Exciting apprentice Ahmed Atjebi takes the ride & claims 3lb. Personally think 6f is the horses best trip & its record at this track is 2 wins from 7 races. Was 3rd in this race last year off OR 101. Runs off 100 today & should be able to repeat that performance at least especially from an ideal draw. Seems to prefer to keep covered up until the business end but is a strong finisher. Ryan Moore keeps the ride after its last performance. Re: Bowles' "live" Monthly betting book 2.15 SALISBURY - DARK MISCHIEF (5F, Class 2, G/Firm) Henry Candy seems to have a knack of picking up decent sprinters & turning them into very decent 3yo's, this happened with Amour Propre yesterday & Dark Mischief could be another. Won on its 1st start this season over 6f at Newmarket after 2 runs last season finishing 5th in a listed race at Doncaster. Beat Soul City into 4th on its debut & that really rates as excellent form as Soul City went on to record a 4 timer including decent races in France & Ireland. Ouch, another blank day, these all ran well below par today, is it the ground or what? Dance The star was travelling ok, but ended up last when the pace quickened. Obviously not the horse Simcock thought it would be? Rainbow View didnt go on the ground, it was much too fast for it. Was it fully wound up, or has it not trained on? Fullandby fell out the stalls & trailed in last, very disappointing, i couldnt believe how bad that one ran. Dark MIschief is not the horse Candy thinks it could be, nowehere near the class of his other sprinter Amore Propre or Corryborough. Golden Stream, Ryan tried ot make all, but again didnt have the final kick to get it home, trailed in at the back of a small field. Off to rethink, very disappointed with a poor 2 days punting! Re: Bowles' "live" Monthly betting book As i am off to Windsor today, my betting will obviously consist of a number of bets at the meeting. I wont be in the Parade ring as i am taking my youngest & doing the family picnic thingy! I am always on the side of Hughes & Moore as the best 2 course jockeys here & Ryan will not be working today without picking up a few wins in his quest for the title. Hughes is likely to be in the running for 2nd or 3rd place this year & rides the track well, especially when Hannon has runners. Both jockeys ride around the 17% mark here which is reasonable. 2.55 CROWN (Hughes/Hannon) 2/1 Stan James 2pts win The only horse with racecourse experience in the field. Noseda 2yo NR so thats the danger out of the way. 3.25 TRANS SIBERIAN (Moore) Still 6lb higher than winning here over trip last summer. Well backed when 5th here in April. 3.25 MARTYR (Hughes /Hannon) 10/1 Bet365 1.5pts ew On a winning mark (81) from the AW & at around 9/1 could be a bit of valu in another open race. 3.55 ROLY BOY (Hughes/Hannon) 16/1 Bet365 1.5pts ew Good effort in a Cl 2 handicap at Donny last year gives it a squeak today off same mark. 3.55 DESERT CREEK (Moore) 13/8 Corals 5pts win You respect Stoute when he brings a 3yo to this track. Won a Yarmouth Maiden last seaosn & destined for better things. 4.25 FORMULA (Hannon/Hughes) Had an easy intro this season at Newmarket finishing down the field in a better race than this. 2 seconds on the AW last season shows there is some ability there. 4.25 ZOUK (Moore) 2/1 Bet365 5pts win Riding for Swinburn who is in fairly decent form. Only 1 race to go on but didnt do too badly for that debut. 4.55 KING SUPREME (Hughes/Hannon) Still 6lb higher & ran on Saturday when last of 6 at Goodwood. 4.55 SHIMONI (Moore) May need to drop a few pounds before troubling the judge again. 18pts staked Have a feeling i will get the wrong ones in but the ones in Bold are my bets today at this meeting.

well, it was the Moore & Hughes show as expected with both riding 2 winners at the track. One day, jockeys will work out how to ride this track but these 2 do it really well. Well pleased with the fact i got 10/1 on Martyr this morning as it SP'd at 4's!! Pity i couldnt bring myself to back Moore in the last race which won at 4's. Also, in 3 of the 5 races, they finished 1-2!! Will update totals later, but i kept my discipline today & didnt back anything on course. It was so cold it was difficult getting the money out of me pocket! Saw Alexmac briefly on course, sorry mate, it was easier for me today in the Silver ring as the family were with me, but i kept getting caught on the wrong side of the track. NB Windsor, if you do family days, make the access across the course easier as those with pushchairs etc were struggling. Cant believe how bad the weather was! Next time Alex, will have a beer or 3. :ok Update coming later.

Re: Bowles' "live" Monthly betting book 2.15 CHESTER HIDDEN BRIEF (1m 3f, Class 1, Gd) Looks an intriguing listed race as usual. Chester should suit my notebook horse - Hidden Brief who can lead from the front & try to outpace these, however its a major step up in class & although it ran well at Sandown last time, this may go to one of the irish pair. I will have a small interest in my selection though as i was impressed last time out. BET 33 2.15 CHESTER HIDDEN BRIEF 4pts win @ 7/2 PP (GP) 4.00 CHESTER KINGS DESTINY (1m 4f, Class 3, Gd) Broke its maiden tag when winning at Lingfield in December but returned nicely to beat Thief of Time at Leicester 1st time up & should go well again. Bred to stay the trip & Trainer Jarvis has an enviable record here of 23.7% win to run ratio. BET 34 4.00 CHESTER - KINGS DESTINY 4pts Win @ SP

Re: Bowles' "live" Monthly betting book Just an update to my notebook horses: Horses to back next time out: Fullandby - Ran Friday 17/4 (5f, Cl2, G/S), Ran Sun 2/5 (6f, Cl2, G/f) - last, dwelt at the start ran poorly. Enroller - Ran Sat 18/4 (1m 4f, Cl1, S), back on soft going. Medici Pearl - Ran Sat 18/4 (1m, Cl2, S) back on soft ground over 7f. Ran Sat 1/5 (1m, Cl2, G/f) - wait for soft & 7f!! Fanjura - Ran Sat 18/4 (1m, Cl2, S) back on good ground over 7f. Sariska - Ran Sat 18/4 (7f, Cl1, S) slowly away, capable of much better. Star Ruby - Ran Fri 24/4 (1m 2f, Cl4, G) won well, front 2 pulled 8L clear Hidden Brief - Ran Fri 24/4 (1m 2f, Cl4, G) 2nd to Star ruby. Rackiteer - Ran Fri 24/4 (1m, Cl2, G) won by 6L pulling away Sirens Gift - Ran Tues 28/4 (5f, Cl1, G/F) follow in sprints 5 or 6f From the weekend Newmarket meeting, a number of horses will win from that meeting, notably following the guineas horses next time out as they drop in class. I backed Strike the Deal & that is another to be added to my list for futuire sprints but only over 6f, as 5f looked too short. Strike the deal (5f, Cl1, g/f) - looks a 6f horse. Add these from yesterday: Desert Creek - Ran Mon 4/5 (1m, Cl3, G/f). Can improve again. Emirates Roadshow - Ran Mon 4/5 (1m, Cl3, G/f). chased home Desert Creek, back on good or some cut. Tawaabb Ran Mon 4/5 (5f, Cl5, g/f) would have won but for greeness.

was right about the 2.15 going to one of the irish pair, 9/1 for an O'brien horse at Chester, the bookies must have been mad! Unfortunately, though the 2 i backed didnt handle the track as well & both 4th.
