Hello guys. Sooooo, are there any decent books i should have a read through? Im into the horses, dogs and casino gambling. Love the thrill of the horses and dogs, but im attracted to the maths behind casino gambling, being an engineer i look at everything logically, so roulette/blackjack intrigues me. So, does anyone have any recommended books that are an interesting read?

Re: Betting books There is no math behind roulette or blackjack. The house always win :P You could "maybe" count cards on blackjack, but with the ways the casinoes have upgraded their blackjack routines it's close to impossible to "break the bank". Roulette has absolutely no math at all behind. It's random. Sure, if you have "tools" you can break roulette, like a camera filming the wheel and estimating in what area the ball will end up. But if you remove "cheating" from the picture, there are no roulette "systems"

Re: Betting books If you are interested in maths Skinnyman, then try and get a copy of "Betting The Timeform Way". Would imagine you'd have to go through ebay or a Racing Book Shop. Has a good description of "true odds" and how to interperate Timeform products. It is a bit old, does talk about betting tax. Still, is (imo) the best book on how to profit from "investing" in horses. Betting on horses is all about studying form and percentages. Just as much maths in racing as there is in blackjack. Ginge

Re: Betting books

Not so much about horses, dogs or casino gambling (as football), but nevertheless a good read...you should take a look at "Fixed Odds Sport Betting" by Joseph Buchdahl ;)
Indeed, "Fixed Odds Sports Betting" is a great book explaining everything about sportsbetting that you need to know. It focuses mainly on Soccer and heavily on the statistical side, but it also talks a lot about money management and back-testing a system.

Re: Betting books

Thanks guy, i'll have a look through there now. Anyone think there is any truth in this book: http://www.highstakes.co.uk/shop/product.php/12615/0/ :lol :lol :lol
i'd take it with a pinch of salt and a tonne more - these things generally never appear as they claim....which is a great shame, but hey. If it was on amazon second hand for under £3, then i guess it would be worth it...but £50 for some information you probably can access on forums or on the net somewhere for free?

"I have designed a system that turns the odds into 131,072 to 1 in your favor. That's right 131,072 to 1 against the casino." If you are really a mathhead it is blatantly obvious that 131,072 is 2 raised to the 16th power. Inferring, this guy's "system" is simply a Martingale of up to 16 consecutive bets. After all, what are the chances of getting 16 straight red/black results? 1 in 131,072. Save yourself 50 quid. F.

Re: Betting books Ahem ...

Actually that would be blatantly wrong, rather than blatantly obvious since 131,072 is in fact 2^17th but anyway... :tongue2 Pedants R Us
