Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 4:25 Doncaster: Lively Fling 3pts win 14/1 Stan James (Bog) Lively Fling looks an interesing contender here off a layoff. Was quite promising at the start of the year and some of his form looks useful. Ground a question mark but 14/1 looks a big price if he goes on the ground. Same sire as Rainbow View who ran ok on the soft at Goodwood earlier today.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 8:25 Lingfield: Cyber Space 2pts win 25/1 Bet365 (Bog) Cyber Space has only raced three times and gets in here off 52. Appears no great shakes, but there is reason for hope. He is related to All Weather winners, his claimer takes a further 5lb off, and ran ok(ish) for a fair way behind 88 rated Laaheb at Yarmouth, who was just touched off at Newmarket today. Most of the others in here have had plenty of chances. I don't know anything about the trainer - but his sole runner in the past two weeks won.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 8:30 Windsor: Dressed To Dance 3pts win 10/1 Bet365 (Bog) Very competitive and a good case can be made for most of the field. Dressed To Dance does have an excellent course record, three wins and a couple of thirds, and goes well on the prevailing conditions. Drawn high which should help.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 8:15 Folkestone: Rock Art 3pts win 17/2 Sportingbet Rock Art is very lightly raced and every chance there is more to come. The second in a maiden to Sahkee's Pearl looks ordinary but the winner went on to win off 85. And from Rock Arts last race the winner Surprise Party went in again today quite comfortably. Rock Art certainly needs to improve - but there is scope.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 2:10 Haydock: Balcarce Nov 2pts win 40/1 Blue Square Balcarce Nov had some respectable form in Nad Al Sheba. No show on the soft at Haydock last time out for new trainer Tom Tate but all his best form in Argentina was on firm. No idea of the value of that South American form - but lightly raced, and at 40/1 prepared to take a chance to find out. 3:15 Haydock: Bon Spiel 2pts win 28/1 Sportingbet Luca Cumani does well at Haydock and Bon Spiel looks an interesting runner back after a lay off. Quite hard to assess on British turf as mainly has been racing on the all weather or at Nad Al Sheba. Presumably given a break to freshen up - could surprise with Jaime Spencer aboard.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 3:45 Redcar: Eight Hours 3pts win 10/1 Boylesports Eight hours has been off the track since winning an All Weather maiden at Wolverhampton in April. Rivals were nothing special - but won as expected at cramped odds. Not over burdened with a mark of 61. With Richard Fahey's string still in fine form, every chance of going close today.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 2:25 Newmarket: Scuffle 3pts win 12/1 Stan James (Bog) Scuffle was a progressive filly last summer running up a hat trick. Then she seemed to rather lose her way, and early season performances this year were average. However, she has been freshened up by a break and steps up a couple of furlongs here, which on breeding you would think she will appreciate. Steve Drowne who rode her for those three wins is back in the plate today, and Roger Charlton is going great guns.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread Balcarce Nov comes home in front at 40/1 (66/1 sp) :nana:nana my longest priced winner .....ever!!!! 8:10 Lingfield: Satwa Star 3pts win 10/1 Bet365 (Bog) Satwa Star has qualified for handicaps after three unplaced runs. He ran well for a fair way on the soft at Leicester on the 22nd July. Back on an articficial surface here, may well be able to step up. Has to overcome inexperience compared to some of his rivals today, but Ed Dunlop is going well and has opted for an all aged handicap rather than one confined to just three year olds.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 4:00 Windsor: History Lesson 3pts win 10/1 Ladbrokes History Lesson is more exposed than some in this field, but has won over the course previously, when ridden by Richard Hughes. The horse History Lesson beat that day Hollow Green, reopposes and she has gone on to chalk up two wins, so the form has a solid look to it. The maiden winners could easily have got in here lightly, but I'll side with proven form of History Lesson.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 7:30 Newcastle: Arjemis 3pts win 20/1 Sportingbet Arjemis has only raced four times and is yet to make the frame. However, looking at her last race she may be a little better than the bare form suggests, not beaten far and did not get a clear run in the closing stages. The third that day, Lucky Art went in next time out.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 18:05 Kempton: Joss Stick 3pts win 14/1 VC Bet Joss Stick has a plumb draw and if he can bounce out the stalls, he should go close. He has won off 66 in the past and is on a mark of 55 today. Changed handlers a few times since, yet appears to retain most of his ability with a win at Brighton a couple of runs ago, (got stuck in the mud there last time out). Usually runs in Class 6 events, so this slight step up in class is a concern. On the plus side, his trainer has two wins from last fourteen runners with a couple of places, and claimer takes a further three pounds off. Add in the high draw and Joss Stick looks worth a bet at 14/1.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 4:00 Bath: Monashee Rock 3pts win 9/2 Bet365 Monashee Rock comes in to this race looking to go two better than when she last ran here on the 16th July. The form of that race looks good. The winner Dingaan had previously been second in a decent Newmarket handicap and the second Magroom went on to win next time out. This represents a slight drop in class for Monashee Rock and Chris Catlin is in the plate again. Seems to handle the course and the conditions and has won off 72 in the past. A repetition of her last run should see her go very close.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 4:45 Wolverhampton: Gazboolou 2pts win 18/1 Stan James (Bog) Gazboolou has gone close twice here and with Eddie Ahern taking over in the saddle he may just go one place better. Certainly not thrown in but has been competitive off this mark of 74 in the past and has a decent draw.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 18:35 Windsor: The Jobber 3pts win 14/1 Coral The Jobber won off 82 at Salisbury on the 14th June. Since then he has been either running in Class 2 or 3 races, until last time out when he was in a Class 4 at Newbury which was on good to soft. Back on a firmer surface today off 83 and in a Class 4 again he could go close. Dane O'Neill takes the ride.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 20:05 Windsor: Featherweight 3pts win 12/1 Ladbrokes (Bog) I think Featherweight may be overpriced here. A course and distance maiden winner, trained by Barry Hills and ridden by son Michael. Looking back at that maiden race the form looks useful. The second Times Up has since won off 79 & 84 and the third has won off 79. The trouble is Featherwight has not really enhanced it herself, however she ran well for a long way last time out on the soft and on a sounder surface here may just give the Sir Mark Prescott hotpot something to think about.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 2:50 York: Jukebox Jury 3pts win 13/2 Blue Square Jukebox Jury has the look of a Mark Johnston improver. I can see him finding more and more up that long Knavesmire straight and being very hard to pull back. By Montjeu, should improve for this middle distance trip. Harbinger will be hard to beat - but Jukebox Jury just might.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 1:45 York: Montbretia 2pts win 16/1 Bet365 (Bog) Montbretia is lightly raced and has scope to progress over this mile and a half trip. Finished lame last time at Haydock, so has not raced since the 30th May. But with Henry Cecil she is unlikely to be lacking fitness today. Worth a chance at these odds.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 3:25 York: Hits Only Vic 2pts win 20/1 Totesport Hits Only Vic is one of those horses that seems to get better and better. Last time out over course and distance and similar going he overcame some trouble in running to get the benefit of a photo over Warringah, who next time out went on to just miss out in a Group 3 at Goodwood. That form looks rock solid and although he has to produce even more off a four pound higher mark here - he just might. Warringah reopposes here, but I'll stick with Hits Only Vic

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 2:50 York: Acrostic 3pts win 6/1 William Hill (Bog) Acrostic is lightly raced with only nine lifetime starts. He won well at Sandown in a Class 2 handicap beating a field of sixteen. The form of that race looks solid with several of those in behind winning or running well since. Last time out at Goodwood Acrostic did not have the best of draws and ran on all too late. Luca Cumani's horses are running well.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 15:25 York: Barshiba 2pts win 14/1 Ladbrokes Bog Sariska will be hard to beat but Barshiba is a sporting bet. She goes really well on the prevailing fast ground and stays the mile and a half. Barshiba will have her good eye on the rail today and should run straighter. On a line through the Nassau form Barshiba can not beat Sariska, but that race did not suit her with the softer conditions and how it unfolded.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 1:45 York: Penang Princess 3pts win 11/1 Bet365 (Bog) Penang Princess has the look of an improving filly. She has had a break since winning at Sandown and Kempton in May and June. Penang Princess is up 7lb here, and there are plenty of dangers but every chance more improvement to come. 3:25 York: Amour Propre 3pts win 13/2 Betfred (Bog) Amour Propre disappointed at Royal Ascot but won the Palace House Stakes at Newmarket in fine style. Worth another chance to reproduce that Newmarket form and goes well fresh. Henry Candy's horses are running to form.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 21:15 Wolverhampton: Sotik Star 3pts win 15/2 Totesport A pretty poor standard race, however Sotik Star has been slipping down the handicap and lines up here off 58. In the past he has won off 79 on the all weather at Lingfield. Ran a reasonable race last time out at Yarmouth showing he retains some ability, and looks as though shapes better on the polytrack rather than grass, so should go close here.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 2:25 Chester: Total Impact 2pts win 20/1 Stan James (Bog) Total Impact will need some luck in running drawn so wide, but last win was off 82 at Redcar in May and is back down to that mark again today with claimer taking a further 5lbs off. Sine that win Total Impact has either been running in higher Class races or encountering softer going. Back on a sound surface today and Richard Fahey keeps knocking in the winners. 3:30 Chester: Celtic Sultan 3pts win 7/1 Bet365 (Bog) Celtic Sultan is a course and distance winner, and that win came off 100. Runs today off 92. Recent form on the face of it does not look too clever with a couple of unplaced efforts, but they were in conditions and listed events. Back in handicap company today, and on track he likes Celtic Sultan looks capable of making a bolder show.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 3:15 Sandown: Farleigh House 3pts win 11/1 Blue Square Interesting that Farleigh House has been kept in training. Ran on through beaten horses at Windsor earlier this month - did not prove too much there, but every chance Sir Mark Prescott will have this gelding primed to go well today. And trainer has a 33% strike rate over the past two weeks. 3:50 Sandown: Macdillon 3pts win 10/1 Ladbrokes (Bog) Macdillon has only had four lifetime starts, but one was a course and distance win here. Ran well off 88 at Newmarket in May before disappointing at York in June. Presumably well thought of for that race as Frankie Dettori took over in the saddle. Liam Keniry back in the plate. Macdillon is usually fast out of the stalls and with a good draw this gelding make take some pulling back.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 4:55 Sandown: Cool Valentine 2pts win 20/1 Stan James Bog If Cool Valentine can recapture the form he showed on his first outing could go very close here, horse who beat him Soul Heaven has gone in off 75. Again at the price worth taking the chance to se if he can.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 4:30 Windsor: Lady Bora 3pts Win 14/1 Paddy Power Bog Serious Impact looks the most likely winner but has been off the track over a hundred days and must be a touch vulnerable at even money. Lady Bora looked to be coming to hand last time out and ran well for a long way. She is capable of being competitive off this mark and Andrew Balding is going well at the moment.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 3:40 Kempton: Chantilly Tiffany 3pts win 9/1 Paddy Power Bog Chantilly Tiffany's form figures don't make encouraging reading - but all four of her runs this season have been in Group races. She needs to recapture some of her old form, and she just might here at Kempton where she ran one of her best races to be beaten in to second in a listed race behind Sir Michael Stoute's Heaven Scent. That was first time out last year and Chantilly Tiffany has been given a 54 day break since her last run, so she may just go best fresh. Ed Dunlop has been hitting the bar with his runners lately but they are running pretty much to form.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 5:00 Southwell: Miss Christophene 3pts win 10/1 Ladbrokes Bog Miss Christophene comes in to this race with two wins and a second to her name from three outings at Southwell. Plenty of her rivals have solid course form but after only seven lifetime starts Miss Christophene may have more scope for improvement. Since her win here she has run in higher Class events and over a mile and a half at Newmarket. A return to this surface will surely help and Jimmy Quinn is again in the plate. Ocean Legend the likely favourite looks a big danger (has won here off 74 runs off 67 today) and I notice Jimmy rode him last time out, don't know whether he had the choice of rides?

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 2:30 Southwell: Ananda Kanda 2pts win 33/1 Stan James Bog A couple of the write ups in the papers make a lot of Mingun Bell's American dirt pedigree - however Ananda Kanda has a similar background (from what I can see). Given that, and only rated a couple of pounds behind the favourite - worth the risk of a couple of points at the odds.
