Hello fellas, I'm just learning the game, and have been playing for about 3 months now. Although I thoroughly enjoy the game, I'm a complete novice. (Not novice enough to risk any sort of cash on 7 2 mind:lol ) However, I hear more and more people comment on how I should track my play, hands etc. Firstly, I was thinking of writing some sort of spreadsheet, but then realised I don't have a clue where to start, and what sort of things I should be noting down. What would you guys recommend ? Thanks in advance. Jonny.

Records Hi Jonny, I must admit I never used to do this, but over the past few months I have started doing so.. All I use is an excel spreadsheet with a column for each site I play on. I dont note anything fancy, just my profit/loss on each site each day and how many hours I spent playing on it. I also have a cell which keeps a running total of everything, so I can see how much I have won/lost since I started keeping records and another which divides that by my total hours played (am I better than the minimum wage basically :lol ). It's definately a good idea to do at least this as it gives you a much better idea of how you are doing overall. Jez

Re: Records Hi all I definately agree with keeping records. You won't be able to lie to yourself about how much you've made and you will see if poker is not the game for you. I guess I won't know till I have several months of records but so far, so good. Since discovering poker on the net a few months back, I've recently kept records of ALL my games. I only play in 10-seater all-in tournies for £10 and £20. All the best Dan

Re: Records Hi Jonny Like you Im new to poker nad have only been playing a few months. I had no idea how to play the game a few months ago so set about teaching myself to play. Even though I started on very low stakes tables while I was learning I still found I lost a bit of cash but then I was kind of expecting that and I suppose its all about speculating to accumulate. Anyway Ive been subscribing to the magazine "Inside Edge" for a few months now and I decided to read through a few of my old copies. Every month they have tips on poker and a recent article I found very very useful was about the most dangerous hands and how to play them. Anyway almost overnight after reading a few articles I feel my poker improved x10!! Now I play almost every night and have prob only made a tenth of deposits this month as I did in the first month I was playing. Im just about breaking even now and hope in a couple of months Ill start turning things into a profit. If you dont already read Inside Edge I recommend you get yrself a copy. It covers just about all betting events and gives some sound advice. :clap

Poker Advice I'd recommend PokerTracker...only good if you play holdem at a certain number of sites, as it relies on hand-history downloads. It's a great piece of software, and you can download an evaluation copy (I think) before you hand over any cash. www.pokertracker.com You might also be interested in www.pokercharts.com Re. Inside Edge...I think some of their poker advice is decidedly dodgy. :)

re. europoker There was (maybe still is) a magazine called Poker Europa. You can subscribe to it, I think (possibly via www.pokerineurope.com), but I seem to remember it being handed out free - in limited quantities - at casinos/cardrooms around the UK. Also, if you're ever in London, you might be able to pick up some back issues from whatever the gambling bookshop is called (might be 'High Stakes') in Great Ormond Street. Anyway, I think it was pretty naff. Nothing in it that you can't get online. But maybe it's changed since I last saw a copy.
