Punto83
Re: Rugby League: Super League XIII - Round 5 Cas always raise their game for Leeds with it being a local derby but I agree, 18 is a bit skinny. Challenge Cup this weekend too, I've got one that I'm keeping my eye on that I'll post up Saturday!
rugbylad
Re: Rugby League: Super League XIII - Round 5 Been a while folks...hope everyone is well :ok Don't fancy the handicap in the Castleford v Leeds game to be honest, too many factors to take into account. I have however had some success recently on the time of first team try at bluesquare...but they have been shady with their limits. Couple of bets for me tonight...1pt on the following. Time of first Castleford TRY - Before 25mins @ 5/6 bluesquare Time of first Leeds TRY - Before 14mins @ 5/6 bluesquare Hull +12pts is a tempter, but no bet for me. :cow:nana:cow:nana:cow:nana:cow:nana:cow

Unfortunately for any Cas fans I see most of them coming via their try line! Leeds quite simply are unstoppable at the minute and to be honest they could cover this total on their own if they get going. Castleford have a few players back from injury including Michael Shenton who is one of their better players and in Luke Dorn they've a player who can break the line so Castleford should still score points despite Leeds' superb defence. Leeds are missing a couple through injury and are resting a couple too. Maguire and Toopi came off worst in tackles in the world club challenge last week while Jamie Peacock gets a rest. That could weaken Leeds defensively allowing Cas to run in a couple of tries. Both sides have good goal kickers so we shouldn't have to worry too much about missing out on the overs through missed kickers and 44.5 isn't that big a line so I'll take the overs. Ronnie
Re: Rugby League: Super League XIII - Round 5 Nice to see you back rugbylad, been away too long. It's a weird one tonight with Castleford playing reasonably well and still getting beaten, and Leeds on a high following their World club victory in a hard fought game that will have left many players battered and bruised, on the back of that they are resting Peacock and have Mcguire and Toopi both injured, i Don't think that they will miss the last 2 too much. Gibson and Tansey are both good players that would fit into most teams, and i'm looking forward to watching Luke Burgess as Leeds are rating him highly, though i've not seen him play yet. I fancy Leeds will have too much for the Cas defence to handle, the only niggle i have is Cas have stung me before v Leeds, and as Punto said they raise their game and end up causing an upset. Leeds -16 11/10 @ Skybet And will also back Rob Burrow to open his try scoring account, can't belive he's not scored yet this season. Rob Burrow Anytime scorer 8/5 @ Corals

Doh, was only a couple of mins away from chopping this one off...not to worry, damage limitation. Kicking myself for not backing Hull though... Punto83
Re: Rugby League: Super League XIII - Round 5 :nana:nana Good to see you back Rugbylad. I'm sticking my neck on the block today and going for a Challenge Cup tie :eek Gateshead vs Pia Last season Gateshead in NL2 were to be honest whipping boys for many teams however they've recruited quite well during the off season with predominately Aussies and a sprinkling of English based players (Thorman.... brother of Thorman who plays in the SL and a couple of players who were on the fringes of Castleford starting 17 last season). They are coached by Dave Woods, who took Castleford up a couple of seasons ago but was replaced by Terry Matterson. They have had a decent Northern Rail group beating York. I saw them 3 or 4 weeks and they were much better organised than previous seasons. I'd expect them to finish in the play offs but they are nowhere near the standard of the likes of Oldham, Barrow etc. Despite improving, I'm going to oppose them today. They play Pia who I'm told are probably on a par with the likes of Halifax and Whitehaven in NL1. Pia won the French championship last season and after a bit of googling using the translater they are currently second in championship after 16 games, 2 points behind Lézignan . They played last night against Sheffield and won 37-22.They were +24 on the coupon too :eek I hear they didn't bring their strongest squad over aswell. Pia lost their last game 22-20 in the league, but that was only their 3rd defeat of the season. The main reason I'm backing Pia is because of Maxime Greseque, the fella is a points machine. He's a current French international, was at Wakefield for a bit last year and has experience of playing in England with Featherstone. I'm in no doubt that in full time environment he could play at the highest level here in England but he's a qualified lawyer for the local council over there, a very well paid and respected job so he'd need a big contract to entice him away. He's in the squad today by the looks of it and he could win the game single handily if he's on form. He's scored 150 points so far and Pia have the tightest defence in France. Remarkably, they are not favourites to win the game! They are +10 at Skybet. I got on Thursday at 1.91, but it's been cut to 1.67 now. +8 is available at Totesport at 1.91. Unfortunately you can't back them outright (unless anyone can point me in the right direction?) So my tip PIA +8/10 :ok

Ronnie
Re: Rugby League: Super League XIII - Round 5 Just a couple for the live game, Gareth Hock seems to be coming back to the form he showed last season, i think the price (5/1) is very big for a forward who spends more time in the centres. And Darrell Goulding is in fine scoring form, scoring 3 in 4 games and is value at 13/8. Gareth Hock anytime scorer 5/1 @ Skybet Darrell Goulding anytime scorer 13/8 @ Skybet

kevshat
Re: Rugby League: Super League XIII - Round 5 It might just be me' date=' but i think it's getting harder every season to predict the games :unsure[/quote'] I agree mate but I'm sure it will settle down as the season moves on. I can't pick my nose on the matches at the minute but these total points lines often prove more fruitful!! I'm gonna try another this afternoon. 10pts Wakefield vs Hull KR - Over 44.5pts 5/6 Bet365 I'm quite surprised by this line. Both these sides have the capabilities of going forward and scoring tries but equally both look dodgy at the back. In season's gone by this could have been a bit of a cagey affair with the threat of relegation in the minds but that's not the case now so I expect both sides to move the ball around and show their skills. In Rooney and Brough, Wakefield have a good half back pairing while KR have a good 3/4 line themselves which is boosted by the return of Chev Walker and James Webster is clever in the middle of the park. Both teams are conceding over 20pts a game on average this season and both are scoring over 20pts too so I think the overs looks good here. Punto83
Re: Rugby League: Super League XIII - Round 5 hardlines Kev, I listened to the game on local radio, Brough missed a penalty righ t in front of the sticks towards the end but the bet still wouldn't have come in :( Very close

Shame we couldn't get on the outright ;) All 3 french clubs have progressed so it will be interesting to see if they draw any other NL1/NL2 clubs in the next round. Draw for the 4th Round is 7.25pm Thursday evening. All Super League teams are in the hat :ok
